We ate in this restaurant twice during our two night stay. On the first evening we were advised that the dishes we wanted on the menu were sold out. It was only 8pm so we were surprised by this. There were three mains off. The lamb, the beef and the chilli, which were our top three choices. We ended up ordering meals that weren’t quite what we fancied. As we were waiting for our food, the Waitering staff sprayed down the tables around us and started setting up the room for breakfast. Again, at 8pm we were hardly eating late, and this created an unsettling “spritz, wipe, clang and clash” around us, as marmalades were placed out, and cereals. It was very off putting and certainly put a stop on any specialness that could have been enjoyed in our evening. The food that arrived was ok, not terrible, but not flavoursome either. I was concerned after the reviews I’d read, but I’d already paid through an “off peak luxury deal”which bound us to the restaurant for both nights. The deserts again were ok. I had the sticky toffee pudding, which was factory made and microwaved. Considering the price and description of these offerings, you are left completely underwhelmed. Our second night meant that the items we wanted to eat “were back on” however again, eating them did not quite live up to the 24 hour eager anticipation from the night before. The desert was described as a panacotta with rhubarb compote and ginger crumb. I got a ready made, gelatin heavy custard with a red top, that didn’t taste of anything, with a biscuit that was stale, and broken in to quarters. I took a photo as I couldn’t quite believe it. We sat by the window which was nice, had it not been for looking at the paint peeling from the window posts. The old decaying window panes and the untidy and broken patio are outside. This is not a luxury outing. This is trying to be something that a cheap paint job and an untrained chef just can’t achieve. My advice is to sell it as what it really is, lower your prices, and be honest about your offerings. Otherwise you are just going to have a constant flow of unsatisfied customers.

I visited Mikes Kitchen last week. What a wonderful place. Myself and my friend both had the breakfast omelette. It filled the plate and was thoroughly enjoyed by both of us. There was a lovely atmosphere and almost every table was busy. What more can I say? Good food and excellent and friendly service. I even received assistance when I attempted to put my coat on. Thank you Mikes Kitchen. I will definitely be back.

Called there one evening to watch the football. We sat down in front of the tv ready to watch the game along with other customers. The game started, but there was no sound from the tv, instead there was music playing. I asked at the bar if we could hear the tv, but was told they couldn’t do that as it encourages loud behaviour!! I found this staggering as it wasn’t exactly the quietest pub anyway, we passed this place 2 days earlier and you karaoke been played from here all around the village!!As we couldn’t enjoy the game we decided to leave.

The rooms were nicely decorated but the beds were abysmal. We both woke up with bad backs and the second morning felt like we’d been hit by a tonne of bricks. The pool area is very outdated with a lot of tiles missing and dangerous. We had a table booked in the restaurant for both nights but cancelled the second night after the first.. the food was like a microwave meal that was undercooked and inedible, we had no one check to see if everything was ok, so we just cancelled desert, we did complain but nothing was done about it. Breakfast was good though. I wouldn’t normally leave a bad review but I feel like people should probably know theres a chance they may not have a good experience… I’m sure some rooms probably have better beds and dome of the food is fine, we were possibly just unlucky.

We've just spent a weekend here, a family group celebrating a big birthday. We had the best time! Prosecco and muffins in our rooms on arrival, friendly helpful staff who filled our ice bucket up. Breakfast and dinner were included in our package and were both good but would have liked some better bread and pastry options at breakfast. When I asked at reception if they had any playing cards, they showed me a cupboard full of games! The hotel was big with lots of indoor and outdoor seating areas. The best bit of all was the location which was stunning. Just opposite is a beach overlooking the mudflats which was a great place to have an early evening sundowner, plus plenty of local and short drive walks. Our rooms were huge with plenty of place to sit. It was a bit tatty in places, especially the carpets but it was clean and tidy. Similarly the pool area really needs a makeover, especially the Jacuzzi which has apparently been closed for months and this was not made clear when we booked. However the pool was really warm!
