We ate in this restaurant twice during our two night stay. On the first evening we were advised that the dishes we wanted on the menu were sold out. It was only 8pm so we were surprised by this. There were three mains off. The lamb, the beef and the chilli, which were our top three choices. We ended up ordering meals that weren’t quite what we fancied. As we were waiting for our food, the Waitering staff sprayed down the tables around us and started setting up the room for breakfast. Again, at 8pm we were hardly eating late, and this created an unsettling “spritz, wipe, clang and clash” around us, as marmalades were placed out, and cereals. It was very off putting and certainly put a stop on any specialness that could have been enjoyed in our evening. The food that arrived was ok, not terrible, but not flavoursome either. I was concerned after the reviews I’d read, but I’d already paid through an “off peak luxury deal”which bound us to the restaurant for both nights. The deserts again were ok. I had the sticky toffee pudding, which was factory made and microwaved. Considering the price and description of these offerings, you are left completely underwhelmed. Our second night meant that the items we wanted to eat “were back on” however again, eating them did not quite live up to the 24 hour eager anticipation from the night before. The desert was described as a panacotta with rhubarb compote and ginger crumb. I got a ready made, gelatin heavy custard with a red top, that didn’t taste of anything, with a biscuit that was stale, and broken in to quarters. I took a photo as I couldn’t quite believe it. We sat by the window which was nice, had it not been for looking at the paint peeling from the window posts. The old decaying window panes and the untidy and broken patio are outside. This is not a luxury outing. This is trying to be something that a cheap paint job and an untrained chef just can’t achieve. My advice is to sell it as what it really is, lower your prices, and be honest about your offerings. Otherwise you are just going to have a constant flow of unsatisfied customers.

We had some restaurant vouchers to use up and this was a convenient location, not too far from home and appeared to advertise a nice view from the Brasserie. Our first impression walking in was not great - there were no direction signs, no staff on the reception desk and the person behind the bar had no idea where the Brasserie might be - 'oh, you mean the restaurant'? We were waved in the direction of a lot of noise from a party, presumably a wedding with a disco blaring out. The staff in the restaurant were friendly but the service was more the level of Pizzahut or a Harvester rather than silver service. We asked for a quieter table - we were seated very close to the door through which the music was still thumping loudly. I do not begrudge their celebrations but it did intrude on what might have been supposed to be a calm and quiet environment, We ordered a drink - a small glass of wine for me and a medium for my husband. They took about 20 minutes to arrive and were a little warmer and somewhat smaller than expected, and both appeared to be the same size. My husband queried this with a waiter, who looked at them, apologised and took mine away and returned with an even smaller offering! On a plus note, the food, when it did arrive was very good, there was a reasonable selection of gluten free food and it was well presented but the coffee at the end of the meal was not great and tasted like cheap instant coffee. My latte was served in a plastic glass. The views from the restaurant were obscured by partly drawn net curtains so we weren't even able to enjoy those. The overall cost of the 2 course meal with coffee and 1 drink each meal for 2 was over £100. Fortunately it was offset to a large degree by the vouchers we had otherwise I would have been very unimpressed. I can think of many other places we could have had a better evening. This is not a place for a nice dinner for 2.

Booked for The Ferris Wheel afternoon tea, but the day before they rang up to tell us it would be served the normal way because they where busy and didn’t have enough of the ferris wheels available, however, there where only about 4 other busy tables and only three of them had them served on one. The First Lady that served us was very pleasant and quickly got our drinks out to us and then we soon served our tea. The sandwiches where nothing special but fine but the scones where probably the worst I have ever had anywhere. They looked over cooked and brown but we thought they might taste okay but after struggling to cut them and biting in to them they rock hard and dry. The marshmallow cake was poor and the chocolate cupcake below par but the doughnut and small profiterole where fortunately slightly better. The strawberry milkshake was a nice touch but there was supposed to be candy floss and that was missing. Nobody came to see if everything was okay or if we needed more tea…. Which we did! In the end we had to find somebody so that we could pay and leave after giving up on having another drink. The staff just seem to disappear and even a lady on reception ha to came in to answer the phone when it rang. When we eventually found someone and settled the bill and mentioned the scones were awful she just apologised but wasn’t really interested. Although it is a lovely setting we would never go back again.

Had afternoon tea at the Langstone today would not go back there again. We had been a few years ago with some visitors from Australia and it was absolutely brilliant, it cost more than we paid today but not much more. Today we arrived 12.25 table booked for 12.30 we were asked to take a seat as they were still setting up. At 12.50 we were still sitting in the lounge bar area, asked about our table and waitress said sorry I forgot go straight through. The service in the restaurant was slow, had to ask twice for a small box to take a few cakes home, had to ask twice for the bill. Very few sandwiches and poor quality cakes.

We stayed at the resort as a family, and read good reviews about the brasserie beforehand, so we booked. We were seated in the area in between the nice part of the restaurant and the reception... and it really feels like having dinner in a glorified corridor:-)) There was no atmosphere whatsoever ( they could really do with a bit of music!) and the staff was nice to us but clearly very stressed ( one of them brought us some dishes and was sweating profusely which was a bit off putting, to be perfectly honest). The staff is generally polite, the service ok.. the food is average. The prices are pretentious given the very limited menu and what the food tastes like BUT the presentation is nice. The steak ordered for one of our kids (about £28) arrived grossly under done but they dealt with it nicely and the second one was cooked to perfection BUT pretty fat).We are used to travel around and dining out, and felt underwhelmed as we were expecting a much nicer experience after reading the reviews. We did not mention our disappointment as we saw that a few tables were unhappy and voicing their complains to the already stressed lady in charge. If you still go for this place ( the options are limited, due to the silly location of the resort) the Tatin ( pudding) is nice!

This was supposed to be an afternoon treat for my friends birthday, but was a terrible let down from start to finish! The staff were unhelpful, food mostly inedible, tea strong and had to be repeatedly asked for. We were kept waiting 40 mins for the Afternoon Tea i had booked online and only then because I asked the waiter for it!The waitress(Mira) said they were busy as a 17 string birthday group had arrived late!I complained about the dry scone, the eggshell in the sandwich but nothing was doneWhen it was time to leave, there was no one around so we decided to go to reception and ask about leaving. A young woman in stripey trousers came running and asked for a voucher. As I booked on line I did not have one. I showed her my confirmation and aired my dissatisfaction at our treatment and was offered a drink at the bar. I politely declined as I had a 40 min drive home.I was really upset about today and would not recommend the venue to anyone!!

We couldn't get a table for 7pm and had to agree to 8.15pm. The staff are young with a Manager who walks around and does very little that we could see.The food was beautifully presented, but had little flavour. I had the pate, which came with a tiny brioche looking cake, which was very sweet. My husband had the mackeral, which was more like a pate! He had the lamb, with a tiny portion of carrot. He really could have done with more veg and I had the chilli.... very disappointing. We were not offered anything but the wine menu. Not everyone wants wine with their evening meal. The staff were young and pleasant. But with age comes experience. The surroundings are beautiful, but the food sadly doesn't compare. We had breakfast, which was beautifully executed. Perhaps my expectations were risen by the surroundings as the prices are reasonable.

Really not worth the money they charge for the evening meals. Most appeared to be served with cheap frozen chips but you could pay an extra £3.50 for thick chips which should come with steak anyway! Sadly too the inexperienced young staff were out of their depth and the food we did have was seriously unimaginative! Sorry! It was miserable and if we hadn't paid in advance for DBB we would not have dined there a second night. My husband had to leave the table mid meal to go to the bar as we were not if feared further drinks nor could we locate anyone fir some time. From our 8pm dinner booking we actually left the table at 9.40pm as the service was very slow.

The resort is lovely, very inviting and wonderful views from the dining room. We had a table of four and each person had a different opinion of their meals. I ordered the Octopus salad. The octopus was too cold and the jus overpowered the taste. I found a piece of hard plastic in my meal and we made the staff aware of it, there was no apology and no discount for the inconvenience. I then had the Duck breast as a main. It came with braised root vegetables, puy lentils and a red wine sauce. The lentils were very tasty but the duck was very dry and chewy. The chocolate dessert was yummy, the best dish of the meal.

We attended the wedding reception of a relative here. We had been enjoying a wonderful evening in a lovely function room overlooking Langstone Harbour. At no point in the evening had there been any hint of any issue. However after the reception party had more or less finished we were very politely asked if we could move to the bar downstairs. At the bar we asked for a round of Gin and Tonics as a nightcap. Our remaining party consisted of an 80 year old, two 75 year olds and the rest of us in our 50s. Others were also in the bar area but not from the wedding party. The barman refused to serve my wife saying he thought she'd had too much too drink. My wife had, like myself had gone easy on the drinking. The barman seemingly had closed the bar area and refused service to the other party as well (I don't know if his reasoning was the same). Whilst we disputed this, the duty manager asked if we could talk about this out of public earshot, which we did (my wife had gone back to the room very upset) . Unsurprisingly the duty manager supported his member of staff and in truth was not empowered to do much else. My issue was this was an opinion of one barman. Many others had served us through the night and had done so with good humour and attentive service. I did go looking for the other manager who had asked us to move to the bar and went back to the venue room but could not find her. Without swearing or shouting I did tell the barman what I thought as he was in the party room, and told him that he made made a misjudgement.

Whilst waiting for our mains we were served with a complimentary amuse Bouche, a mushroom soup! Given the allergy this was quickly rectified for my Mum. However on a £50 per night deal it was included and therefore very good value. Buffet style like many hotels ,but if you wanted kippers etc you ordered them from one of the staff. The one thing that was not explained was that any eggs whether they were poached fried or boiled had to be ordered . I noticed other diners were being served their eggs ,so luckily I managed to coordinate the arrival of the eggs in time for the rest of my breakfast. I purchased an overnight stay at the Langstone through Groupon. The hotel boasts a luxury spa hotel although first impressions state otherwise. It looks very tired and dated. The room was ok, but again considering full price rooms on a Saturday night are in excess of £140, the shower head was blocked and the bath towels were so tiny and thread bare that you needed 3 to dry yourself. We decided to eat at the brasserie which again came highly recommended and boasted excellent reviews. Worst food I have ever eaten, rib eye steak was more like rubber. We declined pudding. The pool and spa area was dirty, we decided to enjoy these facilities before breakfast . We had been in the pool 10 minutes before a swim instructor can and sectioned half the pool off for kiddies swimming lessons. Breakfast was a joke waited 20 minutes for buffet to be topped up, when it arrived it had been sitting under heat lamps turning everything to cardboard!! This breakfast is charged at an astronomic price of £12!!! Sorry but this hotel goes to the top of my worst places to stay and will not be returning.

I booked a table for my husband and I to take our son for a special meal, the Seven Course Tasting Menu. From Jess taking the booking over the phone everything was handled with the highest of standards. On arrival we were a little concerned that there appeared to be a wedding celebration, however this in now way impacted on our enjoyment or the care shown by staff who were all working very hard. Nor was the quality of food affected in any way.I had requested a table over looking the water and on arrival a perfectly situated table had been reserved for us.We were asked if anyone had any allergies and one of the chefs came out personally to discuss dietary needs and suggested a change to one of the desert courses. She explained that she would love us to try her new carrot cake desert. Both my husband and son jumped at the chance being lovers of carrot cake.We opted to pair each course with a chosen glass of wine and are so glad we did. Each course was superbly presented, and tasted delicious. The wines were all of a good quality and matched each course perfectly. I particularly enjoyed the octopus. We all agree that every course was absolutely delicious, exquisite to look at and made for an unforgettable experience. Each course was art on a plate and we enjoyed the relaxed pace which allowed us time to discuss each course and savour the experience. Ben and all the wait staff were professional courteous and warm at the same time. Very well worth the cost of the meal and for us well worth the six hour drive to get here. When visiting our son we will be sure to make this a regular occurrence. Thank you to Steve and the rest of the team. Oh and by the way the carrot cake was sublime!

We stayed at the Langstone Hotel and tried the restaurant. The view from the window is lovely, over the water. The evening lights shining on the water are atmospheric. The restaurant specialises in grills. I am not a great meat eater but my husband enjoyed the gammon. My fish and chips were wrapped in pretend newspaper, secured with a lemon on a cocktail stick. Quite fun.The complimentary tomato veloute was lovely.Generally very good. A few more smiles from the staff would improve things.

Came here years ago with a large group and had lovely meals over the weekend Today the service was very poor - table was booked for 8pm, arrived and seated promptly, offered wine menu - it did not materialise. Likewise advised who our sever was - also did not materialise! After 15 minutes and a table of 6-8 had been seated after us and orders for drinks and food taken did we get up and tell someone we were there because obviously, our sever was not aware we were there!!!! Other half by now was prepared to leave and go without food, unfortunately I tend to get low blood sugar and would not be happy at 4am feeling hungry and sick. After telling them we were there and still waiting, it was a few minutes before someone approached our table, we had had had our complimentary amuse bouche courtesy of the chef - at least someone knew we were there! Anyway, wine list requested nearly 20 mins after being seated and food order placed. When larger group hsd been seated, I had overheard that kitchen was closing at 9 for maintenance, we had not been told that at any time! Looks like the chef had better turn the heat up!!!!!!!! 1 starter, 2 mains and 1 side ordered. Whilst waiting for our food, a server bought 2 steaks to our table - not our order. Things not looking good. Another dish was bought to our table by another server, all I heard was something and chilli ( apparently I later learnt this was my starter of chicken and chorizo ravioli - either my hearing had deteriated badly or someone needs to announce the full title of the dish clearly. I said it wasnt ours (remember 2 dishes had already been bought to our table that wasn't ours!) Finally 2 duck mains turned up. I did mention that starter hadn't been served when I was told it had but we had turned it away - announce it clearly or repeat the name and this is less likely to happen! Anyway 1 duck was pinker than the other, so I had the rarer portion. A couple leaving commented that if they had to wait for dessert it would be another 40 mins. So not just us experiencing slow service. Server didn't charge us for our 2 glasses of wine and starter was removed from the bill. Food was nice but not hot. Service not great. U may have 2 AA Rosettes but if your staff don't communicate then they are not worth the paper they are written on.

This will sound perfectly “American” to say, but honesty is the best policy. England is not known for its culinary delights, unless one is passionate about rashers, beans, poached eggs, and fish and chips. Given this, when I visited the south of England and Hayling Island recently, I didn't plan for any noteworthy dining experiences. How wrong I was. Given my preconceived stereotype, when my English host insisted we make a special trip to the Langstone Hotel for a perfectly elegant. dinner, I was not particularly excited. Hotel food...in England?!?! I stand corrected. The Brassiere in this stylish, contemporary hotel, on the coast of Hayling Island, is remarkable and the chef, James Parsons deserves accolades. The tasting menu, which is surprisingly affordable at 40 pounds, is full of interesting dishes, with specialized and delicious ingredients like a beet salad with Scorched Rosary Ashe goat’s cheese. Another starter, scallops with Isle of Wight black garlic, pork shoulder and cabbage slaw were a harmonious composition--the various tastes were distinct--with one complementing the others, becoming a delicate, playful mixture which literally melted in my mouth.I also ordered the Summer Truffle V, on the dinner menu, which was a delightful blend of earthy morel flavors which settled perfectly into the tender risotto--and was married together with a light tantalizing tarragon, which created a lovely presentation. The portion was generous and the truffles did not overpower the plate. I would order it again, unless I was tempted towards the coriander crusted duck or the cod with peas and white crab. Overall, dinner was excellent, however, the piece de resistance, without a doubt, was the dessert. I chose to order the Eton “Tidy” and my companion ordered The Orange Blossom. What followed this simple dessert request is an experience which. I will savor for some time. A large bowl arrived, full of ice-covered rocks. I watched the whole thing, totally baffled. With an elegant flourish, the waiter added a magic mix and from the bowl poured soft strawberry scented clouds. which enveloped the table. Breakthtaking Absolute Bliss is the only way to describe this unfolding. The dessert arrived as the gentle aroma wrapped itself around me; it was nothing short of divine. The dessert presentation was stunningly beautiful and the mix of flavors, including white chocolate, meringue, strawberries and clotted cream are etched in my memory---being rich and delicate all at the same time. The tasting menu can be paired with wines for only 20 pounds more. This is remarkable! My visit to The Brassiere surpassed all expectations and my perspectives about England and its bland food have been changed forever. Bravo!!!!

We had a cream tea given to us as a present on arrival we had to ask at reception were to go, the brasserie was empty, a young waitress greeted us very politely. We sat by the window the view was not brilliant, we were asked if we wanted an upgrade and we agreed. The sandwiches disappointing all the same filling, the very tiny cheese and pickle didn't have hardly any filling, cakes very nice, tea weak had to ask for another tea bag. The cup and saucer, cake stand plain white could have been more decorative. The upgrade a bit expensive for what it was. Nice but wouldn't go again, hotel could do with a bit of TLC?

Went here last night with my partner to try the 7 course tasting menu, a bargain at £40 I thought. Having eaten tasting menus at a number of high class restaurants, some with Michelin stars I really did not know what to expect. In short I was blown away by excellent food, excellent service and a great atmosphere. We were fortunate enough to have a window seat looking out over the estuary (great if you can get one).Having checked online at the time of booking, we were disappointed to find that the first course had been replaced by octopus, which nether my partner nor I would eat. The chef was more than happy to exchange this for the monkfish, which turned out to be excellent. All the courses were beautifully presented on appropriate plates and were delicious. I n particular the chicken and chorizo ravioli was fantastic as were the two deserts at the end.I particularly liked the theatre of the liquid nitrogen being poured over a bowl of pebbles to accompany our final desert.Well done to all the staff. Will be returning again before the year is out.

While we were waiting (and waiting) for our dinner to arrive the family next to us said they dined at the Brasserie frequently but it was 'Quirky'. I am assuming that they were referring to the fact that the wait staff kept trying to give us other diners dinners while neglecting to actually bring the food we'd ordered. Several couples were seated after us and finished dining BEFORE we received our starters. The meal went downhill from there. My rare steak was served well done and they poured salad dressing all over my salad when I'd asked for it on the side. At no point during dinner did the wait staff come to do a check to see if the food was satisfactory. Our original waiter disappeared after taking our order. While we were actually trying to finish eating the manager started spraying cleaning products on all the tables around us. This is just not something I expect at the prices the Brasserie charges. All and all extremely disappointing.

We stayed here at the hotel for Goodwood Festival of Speed, so we were busy with much to see and do whilst we were there, but our restaurant experience was a pleasure. The menu was enticing, with choices that lured us into areas of temptation (for a carnivore AND a vegetarian), the service was good and the ultimate arrival of plates of food left us very joyous and pleasured. The wine choice was good with some simple and quality wines, if a bit over priced, but the finale left us desiring! Simply put the food was excellent, it was served politely and effectively, the chef was clearly innovative and entertained with food that more than just tasted and looked good. It was a holistic experience that went on and on through 3 courses and with good wine. Then I ordered a decent brandy to complete the experience! They didnt have anything other than basic Martel or Hennessy. That really let the chef down, and the whole experience.A great meal with a shocking come down and nothing to complete the experience. It may be a small thing for some and a simple let down, but when something is SO GOOD, something very whole, then the ending is also critical. For me a great meal deserves a great brandy or liqueur.

Just returned from a three night stay at the Langstone Hotel. It is in a very picturesque setting and placed very well for access - being the very first turning once over the bridge. We found the hotel very clean and the room we had was first class in furnishings. A comfortable, clean bed. The bathroom was a good size and spotless, the only drawback was it was fitted with a shower curtain instead of a screen which leads to having a wet curtain sticking to you when using the shower! The breakfasts were lacking in conformity and each day something let it down - first day the porridge was really good, next time not so nice and the third day it was pretty awful. Scrambled egg was slop on one morning. Toaster was all over the place by letting the guests control the setting where most hotels remove the heat level knob. Our friends room had to be vacated after first night as it was furnished for disabled guests with a larger fitted bathroom, unfortunately the mattress had a nasty aroma when it got warmed up when slept on! But it is not all bad - the staff were very friendly and polite. We cannot comment on the brasserie meals as we did not agree that all extras such as potatoes and vegs were charged extra to the main item on the plate. Which makes an expensive menu even more expensive. So we chose to eat at local pubs. Maybe we are just being picky but it's a shame when little things let this smart hotel down.

Stayed at the hotel this weekend ate lunch and dinner in the brasserie. Scotch eggs as a lunch snack, was expecting them hot and homemade, they were cold and brought at the wholesalers. £4.50 so not cheap either and took 30 mins to arrive as there was no one to bring them out!!!Ordered fillet steak medium rare and was struggling to cut it with a steak knife it was so stringy, also not cheap £27, was told that the chef was coming out, then told that he wasn't and no one else had complained. To compensate they gave us 20%of our food bill.It was such a shame as the hotel room was clean, modern, comfortable and we had a great view. Poor quality food and service.

We ate here for one night and found the food to be very good and well thought out, complimenting tastes and interesting combinations. Only odd thing was the 'amuse bouche' brought out prior to our starter which was a 'toasted oat shake' - the leftover porridge from that morning's breakfast service?! We drank ours but several other diners adjacent left them hardly touched, they were certainly a strange flavour choice. Staff were generally good and superb view out of the restaurant over Langstone Harbour. Food fairly expensive for the portion size but fine just for the occasional visit.

We spent two night here in a family room. The room was clean and spacious, beds comfortable, and well soundproofed, as we didn't hear a sound all night. The décor is slightly dated and slightly worn, but it was not enough to detract from an enjoyable stay. We used the pool, sauna, and gym, and all were spotless. My 15 year was a bit fed up, because only over 16 year olds could use the gym, and he has gym membership at home. He also could not swim when he pleased as they were strict about adult only swimming sessions, which was a shade tedious for me too, as we could not swim together on a couple of occasions.Breakfast was plentiful, self service, tasty. If you want a poached egg, you have to order it, and mine was cooked hard, so I didn't order it again. The staff were polite and helpful.

Extremely disappointed with this bar / restaurant. They are advertising on their website and on a large blackboard behind the bar that they have a daily Happy Hour for cocktail. Upon arrival and asking for a cocktail the bar manager without any sense of apology informed us that they were not doing Happy Hours or had cocktails. Strange when the bar was fully stocked with every spirit possible. Their prices were on the high side for drinks, the bar had zero atmosphere and unfriendly staff. Do not waste your time driving or walking to the ends of Hayling Island. Without doubt misrepresenting what they sell and their services.
