Made booking for dinner on website last night for tonght . Got confirmationof booking this morning. . Arrived there. Got jumped at the bar first off, then announced we had a table booked for 8pm. Girl behind bar asked 'do we not know about the food situation?'. Obviously not!! They had no chef! She asked when we had booked, so I told her. She offered no explanation! She did how ever offer that we could order from the chip shop or Chinese next door and eat it in there! Not quite what we had planned. Why were we not informed by email or phone? Eventually found somewhere else to eat.

The roasts here are delightful and portion sizes are also very generous yet still inexpensive. The bartender (possibly the owner) seems grumpy but is actually very accommodating and friendly once interacted with. The location is a shame since it leads straight out on to the road but that is no fault of theirs. They also don't seem to accept card payments. Highly recommended for a wholesome, homemade family roast.

A great little spot for a very good cup of coffee and a snack. Has a little group of picnic tables. The price for the coffee is reasonable.

A great selection of ice-cream to be had. Well worth the train journey from the other end just to get one of these. They have 56 different flavours of Ice Cream. It is very popular, so can get busy, but it is worth it.

We’ve been going to this takeaway for many years now however after a couple of bad experiences a few months ago we stopped using them. However last night decided to try again and they did not disappoint. The girl who took our order over the phone was extremely polite (unlike the last girl they had!) she couldn’t of been any nicer. Delicious food, will definitely be staying with you. Well done!

This has gone downhill since the fire.used to get a lovely jacket potato with salad. Now they never seem to have any salad.the potato was very dry and as such I couldn't eat it. The tables were dirty, food on the floor and the seats needed a good brush and scrub. Drab and very outdated now. There is a toilet ,but my god, it can't if been cleaned in months. I'm afraid we won't be coming back. We hoped it would improve over the last couple of years but sadly not.staff were more interested in having their lunch than cleaning. No wonder there was only one other couple in there when we visited.

My wife and I had a long weekend off work and decided on an impromptu visit to Hayling Island. Once there, and after a walk along the front we decided to look for somewhere for lunch and a quick Google search for places we could see (to check reviews) we decided to give the Olive Leaf a shot. Plenty of parking next to and behind the establishment and a welcoming entrance. Upon entering we were immediately welcomed with a friendly smile and a warm greeting. Asking for a table for two we had plant of choice and plumped for a window table. Shortly after our requested Lattes were on the table and we given plenty of time to order. After looking at the interesting menu we were both drawn to a Special on the board of Hog Roast Pie..... Sounded interesting and different. Food was served in good time and oh my word - what a well executed and delicious dish! A cold Shandy to wash it down and a lovely Cheesecake to finish. Overall a decent lunch and at a very reasonable price. The staff were great and I would definitely return and recommend. Well done Olive Leaf.

Extremely disappointed with this bar / restaurant. They are advertising on their website and on a large blackboard behind the bar that they have a daily Happy Hour for cocktail. Upon arrival and asking for a cocktail the bar manager without any sense of apology informed us that they were not doing Happy Hours or had cocktails. Strange when the bar was fully stocked with every spirit possible. Their prices were on the high side for drinks, the bar had zero atmosphere and unfriendly staff. Do not waste your time driving or walking to the ends of Hayling Island. Without doubt misrepresenting what they sell and their services.

We ate in this restaurant twice during our two night stay. On the first evening we were advised that the dishes we wanted on the menu were sold out. It was only 8pm so we were surprised by this. There were three mains off. The lamb, the beef and the chilli, which were our top three choices. We ended up ordering meals that weren’t quite what we fancied. As we were waiting for our food, the Waitering staff sprayed down the tables around us and started setting up the room for breakfast. Again, at 8pm we were hardly eating late, and this created an unsettling “spritz, wipe, clang and clash” around us, as marmalades were placed out, and cereals. It was very off putting and certainly put a stop on any specialness that could have been enjoyed in our evening. The food that arrived was ok, not terrible, but not flavoursome either. I was concerned after the reviews I’d read, but I’d already paid through an “off peak luxury deal”which bound us to the restaurant for both nights. The deserts again were ok. I had the sticky toffee pudding, which was factory made and microwaved. Considering the price and description of these offerings, you are left completely underwhelmed. Our second night meant that the items we wanted to eat “were back on” however again, eating them did not quite live up to the 24 hour eager anticipation from the night before. The desert was described as a panacotta with rhubarb compote and ginger crumb. I got a ready made, gelatin heavy custard with a red top, that didn’t taste of anything, with a biscuit that was stale, and broken in to quarters. I took a photo as I couldn’t quite believe it. We sat by the window which was nice, had it not been for looking at the paint peeling from the window posts. The old decaying window panes and the untidy and broken patio are outside. This is not a luxury outing. This is trying to be something that a cheap paint job and an untrained chef just can’t achieve. My advice is to sell it as what it really is, lower your prices, and be honest about your offerings. Otherwise you are just going to have a constant flow of unsatisfied customers.

Decided to try Coastguard after reading reviews and have to say that overall it is well worth a visit. We had small portions of cod, chips and peas which was delicious- lovely crispy batter! A log fire was burning although I don’t think it had been going for long as it was still on the cool side in the restaurant. The only downside was the tea - to be honest it was pretty awful and I suggest you avoid it completely.

Left Hayling Island 8 years ago but returned today for a walk down memory lane and it lead me to Mike's Kitchen. Wonderful people, perfect food and beautiful crockery at a very reasonable price. I forgot to mention the location is great and the choice of seating areas are outstanding.
