Royal Chef in Havant

We’ve been going to this takeaway for many years now however after a couple of bad experiences a few months ago we stopped using them. However last night decided to try again and they did not disappoint. The girl who took our order over the phone was extremely polite (unlike the last girl they had!) she couldn’t of been any nicer. Delicious food, will definitely be staying with you. Well done!

No complaints about the food. I've previously always had good experiences here, however tonight was very bad. I phoned up to order takeaway to be greeted with a blunt, surly woman with no phone manners. I asked to pay over the phone by card, only to be told the card machine isn't working. This is fine, I said I would collect and get cash on my way to collect. When I arrived, a different woman was taking a phone order with a card payment. I queried this with her, she said there was nothing wrong with the card machine. I was then told that the driver was already on the way with the order. As I was in the shop, my doorbell app rang, it was the driver. A total waste of my time. I won't be back here, as this is the second time I've been lied to about card payments and there was not even any effort to apologise or compensate me for their mistake.

Horrible customer Severus almost 2 hours I’ve had to wait and 1 and a half was on hold absolutely poop so don’t order from here trash 🗑️ 👎 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

Ordered a delivery, waited 45 minutes which is fine. Half the order was wrong so called up. Staff argued that the order was correct because they had written it down correctly. Said that we would like the correct items delivered. 30 mins later 2 more dishes delivered and the incorrect ones taken back 🤯 one of the replacement dishes is incorrect again. Had to go to the shop now to try and get what we ordered. Only 4 dishes on the order in total! Of course mistakes happen, but a bit more customer service from the staff wouldn't hurt!

Good freshly cooked food. Can take some time to get through on phone on a Saturday as they so busy - but being popular must be a sign of good takeaway

I ordered a variety of dishes, including the Sweet and Sour Chicken, Beef Chow Mein, and Vegetable Spring Rolls. Each dish was incredibly flavorful and well-prepared. The Sweet and Sour Chicken had the perfect balance of tangy and sweet, with crispy chicken pieces that weren't soggy at all. The Beef Chow Mein was savory and packed with tender beef slices and fresh vegetables. The Vegetable Spring Rolls were crispy on the outside and bursting with fresh flavors on the inside.

This place has lost its way..no great effort simply bland 😞

Absolutely a great takeaway especially 2 for 1 curry night. I thought the quality might be compromised but each meal has been first class.

We had not had a meal from Royal Chef for some time but tonight I needed a break from cooking after all the Christmas festivities. We ordered the usual Crispy Duck, the Crispy Chilli Beef, the Kung Po Chicken and Sweet n Sour Chicken with vegetables and two different rice dishes. We collected the meal 15 minutes after telephoning the order. The whole meal was delicious, hot and everything we ordered. Having read some of the recent poor reviews we were worried but we need not have been. I don’t know if this is new management or not but we were very happy with our meal and will return.

This place used to be great but unfortunately since it’s had new owners the food quality has gone down hill, portions are smaller prices have gone up, it’s really disappointing because it used to be the best Chinese on the island in my opinion

When I visit hayling Island and fancy a Chinese then I always come here. The phone doesn't stop ringing for orders so that tells you it's good in my opinion and I've never been disappointed. Delicious food which is always piping hot.

The food tonight was great, the chicken curry was great, the chips were crispy and great, delivery was quick and on time

Very tasty food, the Chinese chicken curry was Absolutely amazing the sauce is perfect and the chicken was so yummy, the chicken balls here are very well cooked and spot on! Definitely recommend this Chinese to anyone looking for a great takeaway on hayling Island!! I Definitely give them 5 stars and their staff are very polite and welcoming.

While having a break in hayling island we decided to visit RoyalChef where they were offering a mixed selection of Chinese food for £22 we called up to order and were told the large box would feed 3/4 people. When it arrived it was in a grease stained pizza box,nothing to do with the Chinese business, we tipped £2 to the driver as he only delivers what he is given. Inside the box were 6 small spring rolls,6 1inch size ribs,6 chicken balls some chips a small container of rich and 2 small containers one with sweet and sour and one curry sauce, we were absolutely disgusted and disappointed,what was worse was that we rang the Royal Chef and they were not interested, no apology,compensation,explanation nothing,if you are thinking of purchasing this don't! It is not worth the money and certainly not enough for 4 people,never again!!

Normally decent food but tonight wasn't great. Chips were dry and tough...clearly been re-fried and were not fresh. Rice was fine as were the prawn crackers. Feel like I should've gone to the chippy next door instead. Only realised when I got home how bad the chips were and I wasn't in the mood to drive back and complain.

Use this a lot for take out. Food is good quality and always piping hot. The Mixed large spring rolls are a real treat. Quality is high and portion size is good.

Disappointed with food delivered last night . Small portions ,broccoli put in to bulk out crispy chilli beef. A lot of frozen diced veg added to chicken dishes ..not much chicken. Brown rice ? Prefer white rice for egg fried . Sorry ,won't be back again for a while .

Always had great takeaways from here ! But something has changed. Ordered set meal for three. When eventually delivered did not have prawn crackers, which should have been included. Charged delivery charge although living on hayling island. Food decidedly ordinary at best!! Very dissapointed:-(

Ordered pancake roll. Ended up with 5 tiny finger sized rolls with literally nothing inside them. Couldn't believe that chicken chowmain and those totalled over £10.00

I hate to give bad reviews, however after last night’s takeaway, I felt that other potential customers should be made aware that they need to go elsewhere for a decent Chinese. To begin with, the food was cold when it arrived, the special chowmein was greasy with poor quality meat used, and the supposed crispy chilli beef looked and tasted a lot more like fried bacon fat. This was my mum’s second experience with Royal Chef, that apparently was better, but this, we agreed, was just disgusting. Won’t be using this takeaway ever again.

Horrible experience - we ordered for a delivery and when the food arrived it was cold so we had to re heat it all. In addition to this, we ordered all vegetarian food yet found what looked like chicken and beef in one of the dishes. Finally, I asked for no mushrooms in three of the dishes yet all three dishes contained mushrooms. Very disappointed.

We very rarely order Chinese takeaway because of the poor quality good but as we were on holiday we gave it a go. We picked this takeaway because it is next to a good chippy. The food was delivered to the campsite and to our chalet at exactly the time requested. The food was hot and tasty, chicken balls crispy, Chinese curry tasty. Not quite sure about the special fried rice but overall the food was delicious. Very reasonably priced too.

We ordered a share starter platter seaweed was thick and not even edible chicken was grisly and chewy sweet n sour sauce was watery and the crispy beef was soggy and also un Edible prawn toasts like rubber I will never order again and it’s all in the bin and left note for next holiday residents not to use them as our experience was awful .

Solid Chinese food, nice restaurant.

We're staying at a touring park on Hayling Island and had no prior knowledge of good takeaways near us. We looked online and read the reviews, saw for ourselves the constant flow of customers at the shop (which can only be a good thing) and the 5 star food hygiene rating clinched it for us. We placed an order over the phone and it was ready in 10 minutes. The food was perfectly cooked and plentiful. Sweet & Sour chicken cooked in batter (chicken balls) were crispy on the outside and tender in the middle, king prawn chow mein delicious and the prawns were tender (not overcooked like they so often are in a takeaway), special fried rice was overflowing with "specials". What's more, we much prefer the special offers for orders over £20 (also £30), rather than the prawn crackers that other takeaways normally offer (and which sit on the side for a couple of days before being thrown away!), so got our favourite dish - crispy chilli beef - at only £1.99. Wish this was our normal local. It was probably the best Chinese takeaway we've ever had.

Food was amazing. Very impressed. Will definitely be ordering again when we are next in Hayling Island.

The food was not enjoyable. Crispy shredded chicken..there was no crisp in the portion I had! Curry sweet…both in the bin untouched!

The food is good and usually they are pretty speedy with delivery. It would be great if they had better vegetarian options as it's quite limited.

Terribly service. Ordered takeaway, delivered after 2 hours and 15 minutes. Cold and some parts full of fat (clearly oil not hot enough) they are more interested in making money then delivering service and good food. Phone orders are painful and limited conversation to what’s on their menu. Not even a kind word of apology when you call them after two hours. Avoid !!

first chinese of the year and I was very impressed as always, said it would arrive in 40 but came in 20 minutes. food was fantastic and piping hot full of flavour. Very quick service thank you royal chef Dan from Salterns Lane 👍

I have been using Royal Chef for many years, never had a problem with the quality of the food, however, today, Saturday 8th Jan, when collecting my order, I was charged 10p for a bag. Unbelievable, to me this is totally unnecessary and a rip off, out of principal I’m taking my custom elsewhere.

Some takeaways get worse and others improve, but this takeaway has always been the same. The food is freshly cooked while you wait and the staff, including Sam are cheerful and helpful. But, it is the food that remains excellent, and they use high quality veg and meat and prawns to ensure complete satisfaction. Fabulous food at a very fair price, thank you so much.

Had been told the food is good so decided to give it a try. Really pleased we did, the food is really tasty, good choice and prices are reasonable. Staff very friendly and polite.

Long established Hayling islander i have had the pleasure of using all the takeaways...... But one stands out from all the others......"Royal Chef".......Surpasses expectations for Quality, Taste and Service ! !....... From ordering with the friendly young front desk person Mr S......... to deliveries or pickup it's allways on time and correct. What it's down to is the tastey Chinese food this kitchen cook up...fresh every time ! Keep it going guys .....Jim

The food is pretty good from here. Meat is ok and sauces are good. Unfortunately the orders are taken by a child over the phone which confuses everything. Insisting I had to pay cash and not taking card payment.

We’ve been having Take Away’s from the Chef for many months now and the meal last night was a Royal delight. Delicious freshly cooked food to order at a fair price that tasted delicious. Service was friendly and efficient and they were busy last night. Can recommend the: Crispy Duck, Schechen King Prawns 🦐, King Prawns in black bean sauce. Thanks so much 5* very much deserved.

had the worst experience with Royal Chef tonight 1st they overcharged me phoned back they said they would fix it but haven't and then 40 minutes later when food was delivered gotten things I didn't order missing half my stuff and called them and they hung on me and think they blocked my phone number i have no idea what to do since im getting no response back from then would not even give one star

Well done Royal Chef, haven't used you for a while but we will make sure we won't make that mistake again. Called at six thirty was told it was a long wait about hour and half, ok we say. Over two hours later it turns up. Chicken balls are luke warm in soggy batter, chips are hardly even luke warm, chow mein not much better, over two hours we live less than half a mile away and that's the best you can do really??? Was on the phone when the driver turned up, if l had known the food was going to be so bad l would have rejected it. Had to give a star as can't give no stars, do not recommend and seems they don't care as they are busy during lockdown, well if you carry on line tonight your customer base post lockdown will disappear. out of ten 0/10

Food was cold, tasteless (expensive) and green curry had wooded bits in it, sweet and sour sauce was watery, cheap chicken bits and no Rice came with order. Far better Chinese on the island... Never again

We normally go out to eat, but in the COVID shutdown, we’ve been having takeaways. This Chinese is the best we’ve found on Hayling. All the dishes have been very good, and in particular the King Prawns, Green Peppers and Black Bean Sauce, plus also the Crispy Duck. Delivery for our three orders have been within 15mins of the requested time with the last order being delivered within one minute of the due time. This is excellent, thank you. They will send the food out in tin foil for your hot plates. An easy 5* award, for excellent food, prompt delivery and pleasant telephone manner. Many thanks

We decided we didn't fancy cooking so we'd order a Chinese takeaway, we always go here on Hayling as we know we're going to get a really good meal. As usual the staff are so happy and friendly and it didn't take very long at all to get our food, once home the fabulous delights of Vegetarian Vermicelli, Mixed Vegetables with Cashew nuts in Yellow bean sauce and Veggie spring rolls for the vegetarians and Large pancake roll, Roast Duck with Green peppers & Black bean sauce with Sweet & Sour Chicken in batter. The food was really super tasty, lovely and steaming hot and finished off with a lovely prawn cracker or too and a fortune cookie. Definitely worth a visit.

Quality was excellent, they do some deals if you collect, food wasn't greasy, best takeaway I've had in a long time, great if you don't want to cook whilst on holiday. Parking is a bit of a problem as it's on a busy road.

First time we ordered from here on recommendations of our neighbor on our camp site, now my partner is a very fussy eater and even he said this was the best Chinese we had had in years. The food was perfectly cooked, portion sizes for the prices was amazing. The best part is they deliver to The Oven Campsite, which made our day after walking 16 miles that day. We look forward to our next meal from here.

Wonderful takeaway They deliver and super value. Use them regularly and couldn’t possibly tell you best dish just try something different every time. Makes an evening with friends something special.

The food we had was all fresh and ok but was a little disappointing. There was something lacking that seemed to say it was not genuinely chinese. All dishes were absolutely loaded with onion, not a bamboo shoot or water chestnut in sight. We ate it and it was ok but would not use this chinese again.

Oh my goodness what an awful Chinese. Apparently what I was eating should have been duck in plum sauce. It was like playing a game of lucky dip and guess what I didn't find much duck... maybe a bit of leather hide. Wont be ordering from here anytime soon. I wouldn't give them any stars but then I wouldn't be allowed to post my review.

I was sceptical using this place, thinking can it really be better than my usual place in Havant. But you don't know until you try. Food was really good, delivered nice and hot. The standard was very good and I'm annoyed with myself for not trying this place before. Looking forward to trying different items from the menu in the future.

Fast and efficient delivery, delivered faster than promised. Hot, tasty and fresh food all well presented, even though a take away. Well worth the money and we highly recommend them.

I recently called early in the evening, the phone rang and was answered straight away, so they were clearly not busy. On busy nights it can take ages to get through. When I asked for a delivery I was told that it would be over three hours before they could deliver. I was told it was because I live too far away. We’ve been pretty regular customers for about 3 years, so this came as a bit of a surprise, especially when they drop menus through the letterbox which indicates a catchment area that extends much farther than where we live. I actually double checked the delivery time just to be sure. I got the same answer and attitude. If you are hungry like most normal people when they ring for a delivery from a takeaway, quoting three hours delivery to a customer when you are clearly not busy is a bit much. It’s basically saying we don’t care, we don’t value your business, and we really cannot be bothered. So, unless you want to collect your food, I would not bother even picking up the phone!!

I love the food here and the people are friendly and accommodating . The service is good and as fast as it can be . There's many signature dishes aswell as all the firm favourites .I would recommend trying the chicken and pork fried rice or for a more traditional taste then tried the beef in black bean sauce or roast chicken in lemon sauce

Ordered our first home delivery this evening after a recommendation in our holiday let. We were not disappointed. Very friendly lady took our order. Delivered very very quickly. The food was lovely and hot. They were all delicious tasting dishes. We have had loads of different Chinese meals from all over but this was the best. Can highly recommend.

We've had a fairly large number of Takeaway meals from the Royal. Each time they have been tasty and good value for money. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Definitely my first choice for Chinese.

My Chinese Takeaway of choice on Hayling Island. Used many times, never had a bad meal. Big plus point for us, NO MSG in the meals.

Having checked out their reviews and menu and then decided what we were going to have and being very hungry - and checking their very own website to check they were open - yes, said they were open 7 days a week - spent another 40 minutes calling them trying to order, only to have no answer. Presumed this was due to World Cup Football and England playing. Surely they could answer the phone once in 40 minutes? But No.

Really tasty takeaway. They do deliver but they were very busy on a Friday night so it was quicker to collect.

On Tuesdays they have a buy one get one free curry and, if like me you like Chinese curries (my wife can't stand them), it's a no-brainer

Always on time, freshly cooked food and great choice. Definitely our favourite local Chinese. The prawn toast is well worth a try.

Very good food here! I got chicken ball and beef dishes. Taste great and the veritable was quite fresh! I really recommend this Chinese takeaway and you should have a try!

Absolutely love this Chinese restaurant by far the best on the island, food is delicious portions sizes are large staff are very efficient and friendly I would highly recommend.
