The five star reviews are right. A super stop after a walk to the rocks of solitude. Lovely village and a quaint cafe. Excellent nachos and various sandwiches. Great cakes too. No complaints at all

Came here for Sunday lunch whilst visiting st Cyrus for the weekend after seeing the reviews of the Sunday roast. Waitress was friendly and the food arrived piping hot and the portions were huge! The roast beef was so good just melted in the mouth. The sticky toffee pudding and custard was so good aswell and all reasonably priced. Would recommended and will be back to try more of the menu when in the area.

Great Sunday roast Aberdeenshire roast rump of beef Yorkshire pudding veg and roast potatoes also half roast chicken with skirlie Hugh portions. Home made apple pie and custard fantastic.

So packed in now and chairs cannot be pushed back to get in. Sharp practice of serving large coffees at obviously higher prices when only a coffee had been ordered. Yes, there are two sizes but the server should ask!

Lovely setting, lovely food and wonderful, friendly and helpful staff...special shout out to Lukas who looked after us really well :)

We stayed in lodge not far from this hotel and after reading that our host recommends this place for a meal we decided to give it a go in our last night.Food was delicious and portions were really generous. Thai green curry was outstanding, lots of flavour and nicely presented. All staff were super friendly and nice.

Service was lovely. We haven’t been for a while and maybe it was a blip but the chips were not as good as they have been in the past. Kids were happy with their food and the sole goujons were tasty.

A lovely lunch as always. So sad that Balmakewan has had to make the decision to close permanently. So many people, both local and passers by will miss the wonderful food, service and the welcome given on every occasion.

Hugely disappointed to say the least. Fish portion was not much bigger than a tiddler in all honesty, little meal at a big price, in excess of £12. A long wait as well to get the meal, staff chatting and talking at the counter and my fish was not put in the fryer for at least 5 mins. Once is enough, never again.
