We stayed in lodge not far from this hotel and after reading that our host recommends this place for a meal we decided to give it a go in our last night.Food was delicious and portions were really generous. Thai green curry was outstanding, lots of flavour and nicely presented. All staff were super friendly and nice.

This place is about 10 mins north of Montrose and well worth the drive. The menu can be viewed on-line (pizza is just on Wednesdays) and includes unusual things like Thai green curry and mussels. It had a really friendly atmosphere. The Thai green curry is really, really good This was easily the best meal out of our holiday and I recommend it There's parking to the rear. Probably best to book - do by phone

The Marykirk Hotel in the centre of Marykirk on the busy A937 between Montrose and Laurencekirk is a former Coaching Inn dating back to the mid 1800s. As a Grade C listed building it has been tastefully modernised and still retains much of its original character. The room was spacious and overlooked the hotel's garden which looked very pleasant with picnic tables, although the weather prevented me from exploring outside. We enjoyed a pleasant meal in the Stables Bar and breakfast, the next morning, was freshly prepared to order in the breakfast room. The staff were very friendly and helpful and I have no hesitation in recommending the Marykirk Hotel.

Popped in for a bit of lunch because the Balmakewan Farm Shop was closed and we will not be doing so again. We ordered a chicken curry and a cheese & ham panini with two soft drinks, which came to about £17. The curry was incredibly bland. Watery chicken, a stir-in sauce out of a jar, re-heated instant rice and a packet nan-bread. The panini was basic with little garnish. The service was friendly and efficient enough which was sadly the only enjoyable part of the experience. On the way out we passed what I assume was the owners unloading their jeep full of goods from Tesco, into the back of the restaurant. Note that because this is classed as a hotel Trip Advisor is forcing me to review the sleep quality. Obviously we didn't stay the night so my rating should be ignored for that.

Enjoyed several meals here on our recent holiday, both in the restaurant and the bar. Food well cooked and good size portions on the plate. Very friendly staff who accommodated us with or without booking, but maybe best to book if possible as it seemed busy at times. We did not stay at the hotel so cannot comment on the rooms. PLenty of parking at the back of the hotel.

We went to this restaurant today and Teresa was not helpful and the strange thing is she way born in May. She was a wonderfull person and the food great as usual, I had Steak Pie and the meat was so tender as I cook a lot I can be very critical. Gus had Scampi and it he said it was lovely. LL

This is our annual fishing trip on the North Esk, stayed here for 3 nights and dined here every night. Large, well priced, varied menu cooked to perfection. My guest was well impressed with the standard of food and service and had a steak both nights!! Well impressed that they continue to provide an excellent service, year in, year out. Well done to all.

We live a short distance from the Marykirk hotel and enjoy the walk into the village for a few drinks and always a lovely meal. A real treat and lovely in the winter time when the log burner is on. We would recommend to everyone.

We thought we would stop at marykirk while out on bike.We went into hotel restaurant.Staff were lovely we ordered our food and there wasn't very many in but had quite long wait for food.I asked for prawn cocktail starter but it was simply prawns with no sauce on unappetising salad leaves.tasteless.my main was macaroni which had obviously been sitting in oven too long it was completely dried out.My hubby and I thought the chips were OK out of the meal. Its a very squashed in feeling As its tiny room and their buzzer for staff is hilarious sounds like someone's breaking wind.We did find that enlightening.Gave us a giggle. All in all a nice wee place though just your below average pub food though.

Really enjoyed lunch in the pub. Although quiet there is a lovely atmosphere and the food was all freshly cooked and delicious. Three in our group had the steak pie and raved about it. I had the chicken curry and it was really yummy. All plates went back as if they had been licked clean! For dessert we enjoyed the apple flan followed by teas and coffees. There is a really nice beer garden but unfortunately the wind was a bit cold. Worth remembering for sunnier days. I will definitely be back to try the more formal dining in the restaurant but all in all a great way to spend a Friday lunch time in the pub.

We arrived before they opened so maybe that accounted for the place being on the chilly side, but the welcome was warm and friendly. The lunch menu wasn't huge but there was plenty to choose from and the soup varies daily. One of us had garlic mushrooms, we were surprised at the portion size, it was big for a starter which was good as we are big eaters. They were freshly cooked, the coating was crisp and they came with a generous pot of mayonnaise and a nice side salad. We moved onto the steak pie, wow, the portion is big but thankfully we were hungry. There was plenty of pie filling on the plate, the gravy was very dark and quite salty but the beef was meltingly tender with no fat, all of it was edible it had a lovely pastry topping (which sadly had been baked separately does that still make it a pie?) it came with nice fresh carrots, peas and savoy cabbage which was a nice change from the offering in most places. One of us chose chips and one potatoes and generous portions of them arrived in separate dishes. We decided to share a chocolate cake and ice cream for pudding. It arrived having been warmed, I presume in the microwave so it looked like chocolate sponge in a lake of chocolate sauce. It was accompanied by two generous balls of smooth ice cream. The cake itself was soft, sweet but not overpoweringly and a very enjoyable end to our meal. Our lunch bill for one starter, two main courses, one dessert and two soft drinks was just over £25 which I reckon was a bargain.

This is one of my favourite places to eat. The food is freshly cooked and the menu is both traditional and spicy. The portion sizes are good and the staff are always attentive and friendly. Satisfying food and good value for money. Highly recommended.

very friendly and welcoming but food was a letdown. My wife had pate with oatcakes and a side salad. no dressing on the salad, and no chutney or pickle with the pate I had garlic mushrooms which were the breaded frozen ones straight from a bag with a garlic mayo( not home made)She then had roast pork with potatoes and veg - again basic frozen veg peas and carrots which was disappointing for a country pub in the middle of summer. I had the steak pie which had been very heavy handed with the red wine in the sauce - same veg - no imagination and not really a lot of cheffing going on

My husband & I decided to visit the Marykirk Hotel after a couple of recommendations. We booked a table in the restaurant, a nice cosy place with a real fire. We were greeted by friendly staff and our drinks and food orders were taken promptly.I ordered the deep fried brie wedges to start with followed by the sirloin steak garni with pepper sauce. My husband ordered the deep fried garlic mushrooms to start followed by the steak pie. All dishes were delicious and well presented and my husband (being a steak pie expert!) said it was one of the best steak pies he had ever tasted. We didn't think we would manage a desert as the portion sizes were very generous but we decided to share the banana and butterscotch pancakes that were on special. Again delicious. It was our first visit but will certainly not be our last. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Second time we've been here, should have reviewed before now! Were the only ones eating on a Monday lunch time, varied menu - descriptions don't do justice to the food served - no complaints at all. Portions very generous, staff extremely helpful. On our previous visit it was busier but quality and service extremely good. Will be back and will recommend.

Lovely little cafe, run by volunteers. We went in for a light bite. They have a gluten free selection, which is ideal as Mrs B is coeliac. Tea came in a real tea pot 😊 Food was really tasty and reasonably priced, service very friendly. I thoroughly recommend dropping in.

A wonderful lunch we did not plan the visit and they were able to accommodate us. A great choice was available to meet a variety of needs. We opted for the fritters (black pudding and haggis) as a starter to share. This was delightful. The main courses were equally good with mother in law having beef lasagne whilst the Hunters chicken beckoned me. Well worth a trip

We are now regulars at the Seafield Arms as it is so good. It was my birthday and where else would we go for a special meal. This time, we tried the surf and turf block. We were not disappointed as the seafood and steak were cooked to perfection. As well as the fresh local vegatable selection. The hotel manager had to get up at 4am to get the lobster. That is dedication to perfection. Our friend had a sirloin steak, cooked to her satisfaction. Our daughter had the mac and cheese and was more than happy. The girls finished the meal with sticky toffee pudding and creme brulee. Yum Yum. The service was professional and very friendly. We have a concern, what will we have to eat the next time as it is all so good.

This venue has sadly burnt down. However we stayed at the Braemar Lodge Cabins and they were absolutely 5 star
