Absolutely delicious lunch the venison burger with chips was superb, the Cajun chicken flatbread was ok but could have done with a sauce as it was a bit dry. Marked this down to a 4 as the venison burger was served on a slate mat, why not serve it on a plate. Staff all very helpful & efficient & the service was excellent.

Stopped in past for the first time. Well set out and dog friendly which is great but my goodness, very expensive. £7.95 for half a sandwich, which is what it says, it is a plain half sandwich with a few crisps and coleslaw and £10.50 for a whole tuna sandwich? Coffee was returned because it was lukewarm. Won’t be going back.

Excellent find and will definitely return soon. Loads of indoor & outdoor seating areas - when we visited it was quiet and peaceful but the staff did say they had been busier earlier in the day. Staff extremely friendly and genuine which is hard to find these days in a lot of establishments. We both choose macaroni which was is available with extra toppings, served with fries and salad - it was very tasty. Great selection of cream cakes and tray bakes to take away which we did - the millionaire shortbread and banoffee tart were excellent. Lovely little onsite farm shop which has a great selection of goodies. Would highly recommend and great value for money.

Travelling between Inverurie and Haddington we have seen the sign but never managed to call here. Today that changed. Despite the very heavy rain we found this restaurant. Staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. Our grandson had a cheese and haggis panini with salad. I had a brie with cranberry sandwich and salad. My wife had soup with oatcakes. All the food was nicely presented and of a very high standard. There is also a farm shop. This restaurant is a bit off the main Dundee/Aberdeen road but it is worth diverting.

This once great cafe has unfortunately taken a nose dive. Price increases are now so steep that the quality of food and service no longer aligns. The scale of operation has also meant that the level of service has fallen significantly. Examples being waiting 40 mins to order ice creams, going to desk to order and then being told its table service! 40 mins is not good table service. The long waits for service are now consistent over several visits. Every visit it gets a little bit more disappointing and we must surely be close to our last visit.

This was once a great value place with high quality food but sadly the items on the menu have become more basic, and the prices are unjustifiable. The price increase is now in line with something you’d expect from a higher end restaurant and unfortunately Castleton cafe is not that. The side salad’s have diminished in size and the preparation has lost its edge unfortunately. There are better cafes nearby that serve more interesting menus with better value prices which is unfortunate because castleton was once a place I would recommend. I’d no longer advise visiting here, although I’m still an avid fan of their very reasonably priced produce in their shop.

I used to frequent Castleton for years with friends, mostly for breakfast/brunch. We used to love it. A while ago they changed the menu, put the prices up and sadly we were very disappointed with both, so stopped going. Last week four of us thought we would give it another try, for lunch. The prices are very steep, we all struggled to find something on the menu to have but opted for 1 tuna sandwich; 1 terrine; 1 pea soup; half an egg mayo sandwich; 1 portion of chips; 3 coffees and 1 pot of tea. The bill was £54.50! We will not be going back.

It was like a cattle market …The customers were packed in you could barely move ! Other customers from tables were having to get up to let an older lady past with her zimmer frame, There was no system as 4 different waitress came to ask us our order. The waitress that severed us was rude and dismissive and she didn’t know what was available, when I asked her to ask the kitchen she never went to ask the kitchen. When the food came, the salad was sour which isn’t to everyone’s taste. I had a chicken mayo panini and it was yellow and didn’t taste fresh. Another member of the party had a panini and it was just thrown on the the plate and the bacon was pretty much just fat. Would have gotten better value for money doing it myself considering the money we paid. I don’t mind spending money on good food however this was not good food. We are regular customers and it has defiantly went down hill. Won’t be in a rush back.

On our way to Aberdeen, we stopped here to charge the car and have a bite to eat. Would recommend this venue for various reasons - the staff were helpful and friendly, the service was quick, good arrived in good time and was absolutely delicious. Cullen Skink soup was fab, the sausages and mash were described by my other half as the tastiest thing he'd eaten for a while (and were on holiday so eating out a lot), and the prices were value for money.

We visited the Cafe for coffee and cake today, the place was packed which is usually a good sign! We ordered 2 cappuccinos, a banoffee pie and lemon meringue pie. When cappuccinos arrived, the waitress spilt one all over the saucer and no replacement was offered, a napkin was presented for us to wipe it up! They were watered down white coffees with no foam! The banoffee pie, well where do I start. The toffee sauce was only around the outside of the pastry and the case was mainly empty give or take a few small slices of banana. The lemon meringue pie had barely any lemon sauce again an empty case and very dry. Overall very poor and that’s not the first bad experience we have had here. There is cost cutting and cost cutting, really poor show and it cost £18! We will definitely not be back and would not recommend!

This is a great facility with facilities for all including pets. Very good food with an imaginative menu and a lovely shop with lots of goodies. But….boy does it need staff training! I was shocked to see a young girl plate up the chips with her bare hands and then watched her and colleagues eat chips at the pass. This is unacceptably poor hygiene and needs addressed - I wouldn’t return.

I’d rather you didn’t go - so there is a table for me!! What a fabulous gem of a restaurant alongside a lovely farm shop. There are two sections to the restaurant. A conservatory, which is available for use with your 4 legged friends. And then an indoor restaurant. The staff were efficient and friendly. The choice of food was good and prices were fair. We each had a toastie and it came with salad, slaw and crisps! Plenty to eat! BUT……. You need to keep room for dessert! On the day we went there were at least 20 choices of cakes, slices and other goodies. And they are big!!! My mum and her friend split a cream meringue and even split it was HUGE!! The kitchen staff have to be praised. The quality of their food and the speed things came out. They must be a finely tuned machine! Well done!! Is there any downside. Not down just a caution. The conservatory is not fully enclosed, it’s all glass but has gaps around all the panels. So if it’s cold outside, you might find it chilly. They take reservations and I would book if I was going during a popular time and I wanted an inside table. I hope you love this place as much as we did!!

Recently had a nice bite to eat. The food really is 5*. And we thought the new ‘outdoor’ seating area was fab! Not at all windswept like in a previous visit. The tables are nicely spaced and it’s decorated well with tasteful artificial plants. Only gripe is the service didn’t live up to the amazing food. There was a waitress taking phone bookings and 2 standing alongside watching her. It took an age to get the waitresses attention for extra orders, etc. Inside seemed to be a hive of activity. Staff had a totally different mindset. A couple proactively asked if they could help. Will definitely be back, but an eatery is only as good as it’s staff.

It was so lovely to go out and have a meal with a friend here. We had one of the salads which looked and tasted gorgeous and a ‘mini’ Fish and chips! The fish was delicious- so crispy but not oily on the outside and flaky on the inside. Tartar sauce was very good too! The chips were perfect - again crispy on the outside and tasty on the inside! Pudding was a lovely gooey brownie with cream and raspberry! I really enjoyed the ‘home made’ ice tea! The cafe was well placed with tables spaced out however our inevitable was right opposite the door! So a tad cold..but thought it was good ventilation!

I would like to express my appreciation for a service which feel was above excellent in difficult circumstances. Castleton delivered a truly magnificent selection of food to my elderly parents (who have been shielding for over a year) for their anniversary. To say it made their day is a gross understatement! The food was fresh, in sensible sized portions with a good variety, well presented and delivered with a smile! Many thanks to Pamela for excellent customer service from phone call to delivery. Very reasonably priced too. We are all looking forward to being able to visit personally but in the meantime, keep up this great service. Heartfelt thanks to you all.

I am full of admiration for the Castleton staff and management for continually embracing all that this pandemic has thrown at them. They were always one step ahead of change. Having visited several times during the past year, initially just for a takeaway coffee and bacon roll or shopping for some of their delightful produce, to sitting “socially distant” outdoors under marquees and later enjoying the luxury of their extended outdoor restaurant during the summer months… and it didn’t stop there, with the installation of screening and heaters to ensure their patrons would continue to be comfortable during the colder months. The overall quality of their food, their catering services, their delivery services and the pleasant and efficient services of their waiting staff have all been first class and should be congratulated. Also, their regular updates throughout, on Facebook, have been helpful and amusing!

Went to Castleton farm shop and cafe today for lunch but ended up leaving 10 minutes after we arrived. Firstly, COVID measures poorly put in place. I checked website before going to see if they had a COVID update on their website as I wasn’t sure wether I needed to book or not but they didn’t. When we got there, no one was at the door and we could’t see any signs asking us to wait to be seated. Staff walked by and ignored us so we decided we must just have to find a seat. Once in the outdoor seating, a waitress with long dark hair shouted at us that we should have waited at the door. She then stormed back to the front door with a scowling face and asked us for a name and number. She led us out to the outdoor seating area, taking off in front of us and didn’t say another word. She seated us right next to the temporary wall which has a 2” gap all the way around the glass or Perspex. It was freezing. There were plenty of other tables away from the ‘windows’. We thought we were being punished for not understanding the COVID procedures. Next waitress with blonde hair came to take order and I asked if we could move tables as it was far too cold where we were. Although she was far more polite than the person who seated us, she told us there were no seats inside. I told her we just wanted one away from the window and she looked at me blankly. That’s when we decided to leave and walked past at least 3 empty tables well away from the windows! As we left dark haired waitress said ‘Bye now’ in a snidy tone! Never been treated so disgustingly in any eatery! Won’t be back!

Went here recently for the first time during Covid guidlines but been many times before. Firstly the one way system wasnt set up great as the arrow sign on the door directs you in the wrong direction as its meant to address people on the other side of it!! We walked round the back following the direction of the arrow, really stupid! Essentally the main entrance/exit is now just the exit. The entrance was moved around to the left side of the building so no idea whay that couldn't be made VERY clear from the start. We sat inside and there are numerous plastic screens up between the tables and everything is better spaced out. The breakfasts here are always pretty fab. Never had issues before, however, on this occasion EVERYTHING was very cold. It was so off-puting and ruined everything. It wasn't even slightly warm, it was COLD. We told the staff at the till when paying and we were given an acceptable reduction so that was reasonable of them. One of the chefs then came out and appologised and thanked us for advising them. I think it was a real shame that things weren't great with the food but it was very admirable that they took responsibility and valued our feedback. I think thats more important as things go wrong for everyone but accountability takes strength to show.

I went to Castleton on a recommendation and have to say that I was deeply disappointed. First of all the table itself was sandwiched between what I can only describe as display boards and whilst I fully understand social distancing this was like sitting in a call centre canteen. There was outdoor seating in tents but workmen close by were making such a noise it was better inside.I ordered the Minnow fish and minnow it was, the batter was overcooked and the food was cold. My husband had a curry and was given a splatter of salad on the side of the plate, surely a naan bread or popadom would have been more fitting and for £12.95 was very poor quality. Our friend has the steak sandwich and it too was cold, later she was sick and not sure whether it was the food or a bug but did seem a bit of a coincidence .The bill came to £40 and did include 2 coffees and 2 drinks however for the quality of the food it was far too much to pay and I will not be back. You can get the same quality if not better form Weatherspoons for just over a £5

Been a while since I've been here, so I took my parents out for breakfast on Christmas Eve. My mum thought ahead and decided maybe others had the same idea so emailed to reserve a table. We arrived at 10am and were greeted by a blonde lady and said we had a reservation. She didn't check the book for our reservation and just waved her hand in the direction of the restaurant and said 'just choose a table'. Hmm, not great service. We were then greeted by a more helpful lady who found our reservation and guided us to our table. As soon as we sat down, the blonde lady came over and said 'did you reserve this table?'. We had already mentioned about our reservation previously, so she hadn't listened to us.That aside, we ordered breakfast. The meals came very quickly, given how busy the restaurant was. We were fascinated to watch the staff in the kitchen from our table, coping admirably with so many lunch orders). We both chose the wonderful Strawberry Tarts for our dessert and as I asked to take mine home, it was no trouble at all for the waitress to bring mine in a cake box.Our two course deal was a terrific value £13 for the two of us. My husband had a pot of tea, and I had 2 lattes also. We hadn't been for a while and enjoyed looking and purchasing in the shop too, and my husband sampled some Keith Brewery beers from the Sales Rep for the company and purchased some of their great choice of beers.Castleton is always consistent and even with the detour, due to the unsafe bridge it seems to be thriving and very busy, as always. All delicious and very good value. Some of the group managed cakes - the strawberry tarts were popular. Staff were really friendly and helpful.

The crowded restaurant is testament to the high quality and good value of the food. Ingredients are predominately from this or other local farms, tasty and well prepared. Friendly staff.

Food was great. Service was great. Would have massively benefited from some parasols outside for a bit of shade. We ended up leaving our dogs in the tiny bit of shade outside while we webt inside to eat. The fruit and ice cream is to die for!

Came across this place by chance enroute to Dundee. Set off the new dual carriageway on the old road it was only identified by a yellow direction sign. It is a major fruit farm supplying some of the top supermarkets and local shops.

Took an old pal here for a birthday treat. She ordered the spinach, lentil & squash curry & I had the (irresistible IMAO) hot smoked salmon & dill sandwich - which is a very generously packed sarnie on fresh tasty bread accompanied by delish salad & crisps ; a meal in itself. We also had drinks , & a cupcake , & yummy shortbread. Considering that was just over £26 for a good wholesome spread, and cheery attentive service - no complaints here - only compliments!

Met my neice and her new baby here. I had 2 itison vouchers which entitled the group to 4 main meals from a limited menu. Meaning 1 oerson ordered from main menu. The food was excellent, good portions. Highly recommended the steak roll/pannini a bit more expensive than other places but huge amounts of meat. Strawberry tarts to finish, strawberries were delicious, personally I would like to have had more of the strawberry sauce.

Castleton Farm was found off A90 at Fordoun, looking for somewhere to have a quick bite to eat on way to Aberdeen. Initial appearance was pleasant and on entering immediately thought that a visit to the inviting farm shop after lunch was a definite. I had smoked haddock stack and Caroline had Light Lunch option of soup and goat's cheese salad, all delicious. Staff were friendly, shop well stocked and got a jar of chutney that was served with salad, well worth a visit.

The food was delicious and the shop adjacent is always very well stocked for tasty treats! The only aspect I am unsure about is the attitude of the people serving - mainly woman waiting staff. A smile goes a long way!

We stopped here on our way back to Dundee. 4 adults 3 kids and had a meal. Super food great service. Bought from the shop prior to continuing our journey. Never been before but will return excellent place for a stop between Aberdeen and Dundee but busy at Lunchtime so be prepared to wait, although any wait is worth the while.

This was our first visit for a while and I won’t leave it as long to be back. Our lunch was really tasty. I had the peppered steak baguette which was so good but despite my best efforts I could not finish it. Hubby’s burger was also so huge that he also struggled and was declared to be really fine.

I visited on a foggy January morning. The very large building was comfortabley warm even when almost empty as I arrived. I opted for the smaller breakfast. It arrived promptly and was fine but lacked a certain zazzazazoom, if you know what I mean. Although it was described as a cooked breakfast, the nice tomato was stone cold and seemed to have come straight from the fridge. The egg and baked beans were fine and although I am not a sausage fan, theirs was good. The bacon looked like it was cooked with a flat iron. Dead flat. Good quality but no sizzle, even a fry up can have character.

We were a large group who popped in for a late lunch. The service was excellent and the variety of food was great, catering for all of us. That included one of the group being Gluten and dairy free. This involved the chef coming from the kitchen and discussing the requirements which was greatly appreciated.

My wife and I called in on our way back from Brechin, the restaurant was very busy but we were showed to a table immediately. Very friendly waitress took our order for food and drinks and we didn't have to wait long. My wife had the battered haddock, which she told me was lovely, fresh and well cooked, the chips were good as well. I had the chicken and mushroom pie which was homemade and simply delicious, couldn't fault anything.

We used to be regular victors to Carleton farm shop cafe but since the summer the food has been of a poor standard the bacon is awful it's tastes cheap and tasteless .and some of the vegetarian dishes have been awful we invited friends for lunch both are vegan they couldn't eat the food as if was bland and of poor quality such a shame as staff have always been friendly efficient and helpful. We now go to beechwood cafe 5 mins further along great service food and cakes are delicious at a reasonable price sorry castlton you have went downhill lately

We love the place - nice farm shop, good food and quite quick to be served. We dropped a star purely on service. While it’s professional, it’s really serious and sometimes harsh. It feels like the staff is asked by the manager never to smile (something the manager hasn’t been able to for the past hour we’ve been here).

I am just in the door from Castleton Farm Shop and I'm starving. I now know why the minnow fish and chips is called minnow. What i didn't expect was for the fish to be tasteless, the 15 chips to be undercooked and soft. It was handed back to waitress who was more the apologetic, my wifes chicken salad was bland and uneventful. My pudding, 'meringue' didn't melt in my mouth it was more like overly sweet hard sickening toffee. My wifes fruit crumble was a mess and resembled puke.

Lovely little cafe, run by volunteers. We went in for a light bite. They have a gluten free selection, which is ideal as Mrs B is coeliac. Tea came in a real tea pot 😊 Food was really tasty and reasonably priced, service very friendly. I thoroughly recommend dropping in.

A wonderful lunch we did not plan the visit and they were able to accommodate us. A great choice was available to meet a variety of needs. We opted for the fritters (black pudding and haggis) as a starter to share. This was delightful. The main courses were equally good with mother in law having beef lasagne whilst the Hunters chicken beckoned me. Well worth a trip

We are now regulars at the Seafield Arms as it is so good. It was my birthday and where else would we go for a special meal. This time, we tried the surf and turf block. We were not disappointed as the seafood and steak were cooked to perfection. As well as the fresh local vegatable selection. The hotel manager had to get up at 4am to get the lobster. That is dedication to perfection. Our friend had a sirloin steak, cooked to her satisfaction. Our daughter had the mac and cheese and was more than happy. The girls finished the meal with sticky toffee pudding and creme brulee. Yum Yum. The service was professional and very friendly. We have a concern, what will we have to eat the next time as it is all so good.
