Café is very dog friendly and the food was amazing. It was a cold winter’s day when we visited and the Café was so warm and welcoming. Highly recommend the French Toast, with bacon (for meat eaters like me) and the home made shortbread was one of the best I’ve had; it was a chunk rather that a small slice. We would highly recommend this café as well as a visit to Linlithgow.

What a great wee find whilst visiting Linlithgow. Dog friendly cafe with a lovely menu that has a fab selection. Our food was absolutely brilliant!

Had come highly recommended by friends but was a little disappointing, some of us ordered soup with bread and the rest of us ordered soup with half sandwich, seemed expensive for what we had when paid bill including the teas and coffees and the cake from display. A shame wasn't a bit cheaper as otherwise would consider going back when next up. The only small thing is it was quite cold and noticed quite a number of people still wearing their coats in the cafe.

This is the second time we’ve come and it didn’t disappoint. The food was outstanding, and worth the 45 minute drive to get here. The service wasn’t great and putting it down to an off day… we all get them

My wife, my sister, my sister’s friend and I had a meal in here and it wasn’t such a great experience. My sister’s friend has lived in Linlithgow for some of her life, and it was her that suggested that we have lunch at this eatery. Initial impressions were very good, in that it looked welcoming, was in a good state of decoration, was clean and the staff were friendly. Now, my wife and I are up visiting from Leicester, so have an expectation on what we should be paying for a meal, so we were quite surprised by the high prices at this establishment, for what I would call relatively simple meals. Anyway, we ordered our drinks and food, and the drinks were soon brought to the table (also quite dear), and soon after the food was brought. Two of us ordered the lamb kofta flatbread at £10.50 each, and the other two ordered steak and caramelised onion ciabatta at £11.50 each (these meals would cost around £7-£8 in our area of the Midlands). The two that had the lamb koftas were quite happy with their meals, but the other two meals were awful, and unfortunately, I was one of the other two that had the steak. First of all, I would not say that the bread was a ciabatta – it was more like a soft long roll, but in any eventuality, it was dry and tasteless, and down south the ciabattas are normally toasted. This was not helped by the fact that the amount of onions was minimal – we each had a sliver of onions up the middle of the so-called ciabatta. The steak was a tad tough, but palatable. When the server came up to take the plates I complained to him about the meals, and he told us he would tell the chef. Whether he did or not is anyone’s guess, as he never came back to us. There was absolutely no gesture of goodwill for the poor quality of this truly expensive food, so we paid the bill and left. We would absolutely not eat here whenever we visit this town again, and I wouldn’t give it a recommendation.

We live locally and have visited from time to time since this bistro opened. It’s been a while but what a disappointment today! Great location on the edge of town, next to the canal with countryside views. That, unfortunately, is where for me the positives end. Beautiful day today and so there was lots of outdoor seating. We sat outdoors. Outdoor seating is basic, to say the least. Lacking imagination and uncomfortable. What’s not made clear by staff is the indoor and outdoor service and, I assume, menus are different. We were asked to order online, using the QR code on the menu. The food was delivered to our table in sealed tubs in a brown paper carry out bag. Nothing was reusable. Wooden cutlery, plastic lids and plastic-lined cardboard boxes (hence, not practical to recycle). The food - sandwiches and fries - was very mediocre and not helped by being delivered in sealed containers or by the presentation. This felt like an office carry out, not a bistro experience in the countryside on a fine day. What were they thinking when they introduced this? It’s not cool and it’s not enjoyable. It’ll be a long time before we return. (I provided polite, discrete verbal feedback to staff about our experience).

We’ve been to the Four Marys a few times now - the food has always been exceptional. Suffice to say we’ll be back again soon!
