Renovation has made this previously tired area worth a visit. It is bright and airy especially on Market days and quite well supported. So give it a try when visiting Newton.

Now called Jenny's Café. Food was brilliant (the best hadh browns!), environment was clean, friendly & welcoming. My new local fave!

I've visited the Corner Flag Bar several times to watch the football. They have Sky Sports and BT Sport, as well as well-priced beer and great food! The Corner Flag has 5 HD flat screen TV's, including a new 60" screen, and also two projectors. I've also attended a couple of functions here, including a birthday party and wake. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the venue is ideal for parties of up to 100. They even offer free room hire!

As is often the case anywhere in the world the best places are hidden away from the main centre. An unpretentious cafĂ© with a courtyard. A reassuringly short and simple menu. Popular with locals and a lovely and engaging owner, Coral, whilst partner Brian works the kitchen. Very reasonable prices. A fairly recent venture and best wishes for the future. We shall return when next visiting the Thursday farmers' market. đŹđ§đłđż

We had a lovely meal at the restaurant last night, having heard about it in the local press. The food was freshly cooked and imaginative, beautifully presented, and the service was swift and attentive. Maybe the only downside is that the wine list was very limited, but the wine we had was excellent. The setting here is great, but surprisingly the place was far from full. That was good for us, but small independent restaurants need support, so please consider visiting. We'll certainly be back.

An amazing lunch, with lovely puddings, there was a great specials board with good options for kids. Would certainly recommend for good quality food and sensible prices. The Dartmoor brewery beer went down well and the Legend was lovely. Worth mentioning if you are bringing a dog so you can be seated in the dog friendly bar.

Friday evening, table booked for two with dog at 19.00. We arrived half an hour early and ordered o couple of 'local ciders'; one was Devon, one Somerset so all good so far. We were told we could order food as we liked, regardless of being super early and we were shown which table was ours. Our dog enjoyed some banter with a couple of local mutts which nobody seemed to worry about and we settled in at the table opposite the bar. After a couple more scoops we ordered from the large blackboard menu; the overall choice was a mix of modern tastes (Mac and cheese, bang bang cauliflower, vegan African curry), old favourites (fish & chips, ham, egg and chips, pie, scampi, steak) and home cooked beauties (lamb three ways, bhuna curry, braidsed shin of beef). We ordered a stater of sweet and sour battered prawns and some belly pork cubes. Both presented after a decent cooking time and both looked delicious. The prawns were huge and were lightly battered and the pork tender and super tasty. These weren't waiting out the back, they were cooked to order, absolutely delicious and presented with various comforting sauce drizzles, the odd roasted nut and a variety of salad leaves. Mains followed, a local venison pie with chips and the burger with fries. The shortcrust pie came with tasty gravy and a really well cooked vegetable dish of suede / carrot mash and broccoli and cabbage and the burger was cooked medium with a soft bun, cheese, tomato, lettuce and battered onion rings. Both were hefty but really delicious and whilst we both struggled to empty the plate we really enjoyed them. The food was amazing but what was absolute was the immaculate service from the gent and lady at the bar (presumably the owners) and the young lad who ran between tables, checking on overall satisfaction. We have been here previously but this is our first review; we're walking in the area tomorrow and will definitely stop in, that said I believe the rugby is on their big projector so it may be o different experience, albeit the landlord invited us to let him know when we'd be coming and he'd look after us. Genuine gem of a pub; food great, service warm, Locals friendly and dogs very welcome.
