Rather a remarkable little restaurant that we happened upon after deciding we didn’t fancy any of the nearby hostelry, despite having made a booking there at one for lunch Saturday. A short menu included a salt beef focaccia sandwich & veggie & vegan options together with some irresistible sounding desserts. Everything was original, imaginative, well presented & faithfully delivered on the menu description with panache & some extraordinary flavours. I had to ask for the menu back to try & work out what I had just eaten! It was truly delicious & unusual! Worth a significant detour. This has got to be one of the best light lunches I have ever eaten anywhere. A super experience

Here for a Saturday lunch on a damp day. Note limited opening periods for lunch and not Indian menu. We had very good savoury tarts (duck; mushroom) with colourful salads. Good wine & drinks list; personal and pleasant service and surroundings. Intend to come back for the Indian evening.

Very good restaurant. Superb Indian food across a wide variety of dishes. No choices over the menu, you eat what comes but it's all amazing so this is actually a bonus. Very nice, friendly service in a pleasant, relaxed room. This is a pop-up restaurant that only opens intermittently so you have to join their mailing list to hear when it is opening. Book quickly when they mail you as it sells out quickly. They also apparently do Korean and North African themed evenings. from time to time The chef is talented enough that I suspect these will be as memorable and good as the Indian evening. We're certainly planning on trying them out when they happen and should you do the same I doubt you'd be disappointed..

My wife is not very keen on spicy food but Sam went out of her way to make sure she enjoyed the menu. All of the course were delicious, the wine was great and it made for a lovely celebration. We booked a table on a recent holiday in Devon , having gone through several reviews , including Tripadvisor. It is located in a prominent square in this beautiful village. The restaurant is a tidy , small place with a tasty , innocuous decor , with a capacity for 8-10 tables . It is managed by a friendly couple who seem to combine being chef, manager and serving staff and rather very well . Menu : just a handful of starters and several main dishes and a few desert choices . The food : a combination of European , Middle Eastern and Asian . Lovely cominatuon of presentation , easy to the palate abd delight of herbs and spices . The portions are generous and for light eaters, the mains are sumptuous enough not to indulge in starters . Drinks : lovely selection of wines , beers and spirits . Please try the local gin , has several delightful flavours . Price : reasonable for the generous portions . PS - we liked the food so much , we went back for a second visit after 5 days .

We were staying in Moretonhampstead for a few nights and saw glowing reviews for this place so we gave it a try. We were not disappointed! The menu has an unusual combination of dishes - middle eastern, Indian and Korean but it works. We had a middle eastern platter and an Indian thali and both were some of the best food we have had in a long time. Perfectly spiced and with a lot of different things to try. My wife is British Indian and declared the thali as good as her parents’ cooking which is high praise indeed! The desserts were also really good and I had real trouble deciding. There was a good range of local spirits and cocktails on offer. Service was great and nothing was too much trouble. How they produce such a diverse range of food to such high standards in a tiny kitchen is a mystery! Note that the restaurant is very small and gets fully booked so ring a week or two in advance if you’ll be in town - you won’t regret it!

On our way to a birthday party we arrived in Morton Hampstead to let the dog stretch his paws & kill a bit of time before we arrived at our event. It was a cold wet day so we looked for refuge in a cafe. We stepped inside this delightful little cafe with real linen tablecloths & china crockery. We sadly only had tea & coffee as we were due to have a sit down meal at the party. The cakes & food that the other people were eating looked really nice so if we are ever back down that way we would want to drop in. The cafe is dog friendly & provided a bowl of water for our dog. Need to check as think may close for a bit over winter as think the lovely friendly people who run it need to have a bit of a break.

Found by chance, but so glad we went there. Lovely welcome for us and our dog and offered a bowl of water by the table for the dog. We didn't feel rushed when deciding what to order and there was the perfect balance of attentiveness without intrusion. We decided on a tradition cream tea (2 fruit scones with clotted cream and jam) and a savoury cream tea (cheese scone with a generous slice of Stilton). The tea was served in lovely china and unusually, was a very nice brew - not the cheap, weak stuff you sometimes get. The scones are baked by the owners and everything was lovely. As I said in the title, this is how a cream tea should be, and without doubt is the best we've had on our travels. Perfect setting, perfect service and perfect tea and scones. A real credit to the owners.

It takes a small quaint tea room in a Dartmoor town to show the big boys how a proper English tea should be served: that is what we found with The Gateway Tea Room absolutely delightful + eloquent. The tables all laid out with real embroidered tablecloths and our tea in a china tea set which had a milk jug of a sensible size for the 3 of us. Mine host a perfect gentleman who could not have been more helpful from the point of making the reservation with advice on parking etc. + once dining, to attend to our needs + I noticed he was consistently so with all his clientele – most amiable. The food was delicious, being well prepared + beautifully presented by the lady of the establishment. Two of us had baked potatoes with oodles of fillings one tuna and one cheese, both being enjoyed very much. I had the ploughman’s which had Cheddar, Stilton, Brie, ham, salad, coleslaw etc.etc., with a lovely balsamic dressing. I do hate food piled on top each other + there was none of this here, all being perfectly placed as well as with small pots containing the butter, pickle, sliced gherkins, dressing. If you want to enjoy or experience a quiet traditional English tea in a traditional English Tea Shop and to be treated courteously with the option of having a gorgeous slice of cake or cream Tea, or perhaps eating tasty, well prepared food of generous proportions at a realistic price then I would recommend The Gateway in a heartbeat.

We sat down and were greeted by very friendly staff. (possibly the owner) and we had nice hot drinks. (not like the luke warm stuff I am always served in the chain shops ) I had the Victoria sponge, which was very tasty and my partner had Gluten free carrot cake, which was also very good. The café was spotless, the surroundings and the bone china made it feel like stepping back in time where you felt able to relax and not rushed like the awful modern places these days. We also enjoyed the eye candy too, which is naughty of us, but we are only human after all . We are new to Devon but will definitely return to sample the other food on the menu and try another cake as they all looked so good. If you are in the area, we suggest that you pop in as you will not be disappointed.

This is one of the best café/ tearooms that I have EVER been to. My Mum and I wanted a day trip out to somewhere new. Looking through TripAdvisor, this gem popped up with nothing but fantastic reviews. Not knowing what was around the area, we visited anyway and I cannot explain how worth it the trip was.

We popped in for cream tea which was excellent. The teapots, cups and plates are beautiful and the boys actually got a special spoon with a train and the girls one with a flower 😊. The staff was very friendly and helpful

This was the best cream tea we had during our trip to both Cornwall and Devon. Not a detail was missed. The cosy well maintained location, the friendly staff, the matching tea sets and adorable decorations. Truly a great afternoon!

Wonderful cafe with great service, food and atmosphere. I visited with my mum, sister and baby son for afternoon tea we had two vegan versions and a normal one and everything was delicious. The staff were really accommodating and the chef had clearly put a lot of thought and effort into the food. It was the perfect end to our day out. Would throughly recommend.

We had a wonderful cream tea here last week; the service was superb - relaxed and very friendly; everything came very quickly and was the best cream tea we've had for a very long time, well worth stopping for. The Gateway is in a very old building so it's steeped in history and full of character; we highly recommend this charming tea room.

We came across this town on Darymoor purely by accident, used TripAdvisor to lead us to this restaurant and tea room. A delightful husband and wife team who know EXACTLY what they're doing from decor to service, and fresh, outstanding food, fresh tea and a grand atmosphere. Would return every week if we could. Thoroughly recommended and a very well deserved 5 Stars.

Visited twice whilst on holiday, once for lunch and once for cream tea. Both were excellent, especially the open ham sandwich and a novel alternative for those without a sweet tooth, a savoury scone, cheese and chutney, in lieu of traditional cream and jam. And they let dogs in too! Well done!

Lovely food with lots of variety on offer. Lovely service, felt like a friend of the pub on only my second visit, and just a lovely atmosphere. Spent £20 p/p on a main and a drink, and was worth every penny. Feel good to be supporting such an establishment

This is a perfect place for refreshment during a hike (in our case The Eden Way). We arrived soaking wet and were welcomed by friendly people and a log fire and local beers. It felt like a dream because we were cold and wet and were not expecting to find an open pub!
