Renovation has made this previously tired area worth a visit. It is bright and airy especially on Market days and quite well supported. So give it a try when visiting Newton.

Visited for lunch... I had the falafel and spinach burger with a side order of amazing spanish fried cauliflower with capers which was divine, my husband had a favourite dish of his ..shakshuka eggs...a middle eastern bowl of baked delishiness of mixed peppers/tomatoes/spices topped with baked eggs... an inspiring place driven with huge enthusiasm and modern unfussy cooking...cooked with fresh/In season produce. Nice atmosphere too and delightful staff...at last something innovative in the area...it deserves to be a huge success..we will be back soon !

I stumbled across this place on a rare visit to Newton Abbot, I spotted the cow on the side of the building and was intrigued. What an amazing find. The menu caters for vegetarians and meat eaters....interesting unusual dishes based on seasonal local produce. I chose 2 sides which were starters and 1 main and couldn't resist a nice dessert too....everything was so tasty, balanced in flavours and was cooked to perfection, I left with a very contented tummy and satisfied feeling. Its a small place so it feels cosy and relaxing. its run by lovely people who clearly care about the quality they produce and what they are doing. I highly recommend for a nice lunch or dinner and I feel its priced very competitively for what you are receive, its fine dining.

First visit but certainly not the last. A welcoming, relaxed space with friendly staff. The menu was full off fresh, seasonal tempting dishes which made choice tricky and they didn't disappoint. The only downside......ended up not having room for pudding......next time. Cannot recommend highly enough.

We've been a couple of times as a family and had a very warm welcome. Both times had coffee and cake, which were delicious and very well priced. The owners were good with our little one and supplied water in a n appropriate cup (without us asking), plus colouring book and crayons. Hopefully one day we'll make it there for a meal child-free!

What a wonderful place! Everyone is friendly and welcoming. The menu is fresh and innovative. I found it really hard to choose; I opted for two starters and a side followed by pudding. I chose scotch egg and halloumi fries with a rocket, fennel and Parmesan salad. I wasn’t disappointed ; the highlight for me was the scotch egg. I have a particular fondness for scotch eggs and I can honestly say this was the best I have tasted. Crispy outside with a very tasty sausage meat and an egg with a runny yolk- perfection!I followed with orange and polenta cake. Again, delicious and light ! Please visit this lovely restaurant- you won’t be disappointed!

Fabulous! What a find in Newton Abbot. The food is wonderful. I have had a delicious lunch here, soup was seasonal and with a generous helping of garlic soda bread which is the best I've ever had! Good coffee too! I decided to try the dinner with friends, it didn't disappoint! Friendliest service, made to feel welcome and comfortable. Menu was wonderful, reasonably priced. We had starters, main. Wine and coffee. The garlic mushroom aranccini we all agreed was truly delicious, the beetroot and falafel burgers amazing and the fish was beautifully served. The sides are not to be overlooked.... courgette fries, celeriac and pear slaw and the homemade wedges were outstanding! A true gem of a find....I ate at the Riverford Field kitchen (amazing too) the week before and the food I had last night at Market st has come pretty close! Well done and long may it stay. Support this wonderfully run enterprise!

I have visited Market Street on quite a few occasions. The food is so different from anywhere else and I love it! They cater for vegetarian and vegan too. Although ,I've met with friends here,it is so friendly that I am sure I wouldn't feel awkward if I was on my own. I must applaud the Christmas dinner I ate here. I will remember it for all the 'right' reasons! It's a really lovely restaurant. Well worth a visit.

We visited Market Street on a Friday evening at 7pm for dinner, and were slightly concerned that it says on their website that they are only open until 8pm, but that seems to be just a guide and they are extremely flexible and accommodating. The food was fantastic, and very reasonably priced. Everything was spot on, from the attentive service to the immaculate surroundings.

I visted Market Street for the first time for a ladies networking lunch. The food was very tasty and came with lovely side dishes of homemade coleslaw and yummy roast potatoes. Not a huge choice, with only one meat, fish and vegetarian option, which may be a problem for fussy eaters. But I thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was really good too. They have now painted the building green with a white cow's head on it! So it is now more noticeable. They do have limited opening times, so best to check their website to avoid disappointment.

Had lunch here on Friday and was very pleasantly surprised. Friendly, welcoming and professional; despite being a large group, the service ran very smoothly. The food was delicious - beautifully cooked and prepared with care. Thanks to Alison and the team for a lovely meal; I heard nothing but praise from our group of ladies. A real asset to Newton Abbot and well worth visiting; I hope to become a regular here...

The service and food was great! Greeted on the way in, the dining area was clean and tidy. The waiter was attentive and friendly! The food was well presented and delicious! But there was only one meat dish on the starter list. Two meat dishes on the mains, only one of them was sold out. I am a carnivore I like meat dishes not vegetarian! I had Pork Cheek for my starter and Quiche for my main dish! Both were delicious!I presume that we were the last customers of the day (13.30) which isn't surprising there is nothing outside to say it is a restaurant only a board by the door which cannot be seen from the road or the pedestrian precinct! What a pity they deserve more customers!

My first experience of Market Street Restaurant was this week for a networking meeting. A large group of very highly excitable and chatty ladies pouring in en masse did nothing to phase Alison and her staff who were nothing less than amazing. The food was excellent as was the service. I needed to leave before the end and so requested to take my pudding with me. No problem at all and thank goodness I did, I would have missed out on the most superb meringue. The citrus tones bursting through the heavnely sweet meringue. My main course was so filling I was still full by the evening. If you're looking for skimpy portions, don't come here! The space we were in was light, airy and very comfortable.I can highly recommend Market Street whether it's for a meeting, lunch with a friend or dinner a deux. Marvellous!

We did the cinema/meal deal on Friday. What a great deal. 2 courses and a side, plus cinema ticket for £15.00. What's not to like. We had a really great meal. The chicken croquettes were excellent and the cheesy fish cakes were dreamy. The pulled pork, black pudding hash was served with crispy bacon and a wonderful poached egg on top with had been coated be breadcrumbs, a lovely touch. That was very filling. Mind you we had side orders of beautifully fried cauliflower and crispy new potatoes. Being greedy little pigs we also had pud, well, you have to don't you, chocolate brownie or orange and almond cake. We had a large glass of wine each served at perfect temperature. Obviously the pudding, wine, coffee were extra. I thought it was excellent value. The venue had a calm atmosphere, simply designed, which I liked very much. The staff were very friendly and I shall certainly return, maybe for lunch next time.OK top tips for the restaurant. It would be better to serve the chicken croquettes in a bigger dish as it was difficult to manoeuvre the knife and fork around the small bowl. Also you need to advertise the meal/cinema deal more, bigger posters, I didn't see one in the restaurant. I knew about it from going to the cinema earlier in the week. I think it is a great idea and should be promoted more. When we went back to see the film the usher asked us how the meal was and what the portion sizes were (it seems people were really interested in that) I was able to tell him everything was excellent.Well done for a great idea, which really followed through. So this would be my tip for anyone wanting to go for the cinema/meal deal. Phone the restaurant to book your table time to coincide with film time. You need to go to the cinema to pay for your film and pick up the restaurant vouchers. You show your vouchers at the restaurant and they work out the price of the meal accordingly.

Popped in here today for a quick coffee and a little lunch. It's only just opened so didn't know what to expect. Lovely layout. Very rustic design. Looks good. Started with a couple of lattes. Perfect coffee. We browse the menu which is changed weekly, so always something different to choose from. Good selection of meats, fish, vegetarian and lighter dishes. I had the homemade fish cakes with winter slaw. These were lovely, and just a perfect portion and very tasty. My friend had the Chicken Burger. Wow. Homemade wedges, and coleslaw too. Thumbs up. Teagan was our waitress who was very friendly and attentive. The bistro is part of the Young Devon Charity organisation that supports local young people so not only do they serve great coffee and food, they are helping out our community. We didn't try the desserts, but will definitely be back for an evening meal. Ali is the manager and she tells me they are open Weds - Sun lunchtimes and Thurs - Sat evenings. Definitely check it out. Highly recommend.
