What a friendly, laid back cafe whose food is amazing. We were greeted like old friends and joined in the camaraderie of then other people in the cafe. We walked in wet and bedraggled and were made so welcome by Stuart and Dave. They took our coats, sat us down and told us to warm up and take our time ordering. We had homemade bean soup and huge chunk of bread followed by homemade bread and butter pudding, DELICIOUS!! Stuart and Dave are very friendly and good fun, the menu is extensive, would loved to have tried more and will definitely return. An absolute must if you are in the area.

Came over from Tavy with my parents and found this tea shop right away by the central car park. As soon as we walked in we got a sense of friendliness and warm welcome. Great menu choices - I had a lovely sardines & cheese on toast - with a varied menu of sandwiches, toasties together with some specials. A sign of a fab place is when locals are in and there were many coming and going. The house blend tea was the best I’ve had in ages and they also offered some very interesting speciality teas too. This is what great tea shops should be like!

Dave and Steve were great hosts, for a Saturday it was quiet (but it was raining), only one other couple adding to the atmosphere (and laughs) but 'Miss Pickles' stole the show. After all the up-market coffee shops popping up all over Ashburton, to find a cosy, welcoming TEA shop was a real joy! The guys who run (and own?) it are down-to-earth, borderline insulting (all in the best possible taste) and at times, hilarious - and the tea and coffee is a refreshing change from the cappuccino and latte brigade - 'We don't do cappuccino, only frothy coffee!' The cakes are delicious and varied - definitely not 'free' anything - and all served on bone China cups, saucers and plates. You may have to wait for a table, as the locals seem to take root there, and are in no hurry to shift, but it will be worth it!

We then offered to purchase their cakes to take out and the waiter said it would be possible but they are rather expensive as they cost £2.50 so we would be better off trying to get something from the bakery down the road. In my whole life I can sincerely say that I have never been so insulted and made feeling so unwelcome ever. I suspect the waiter is either racist again Chinese people or he has invisible customers in there or he is expecting tons of customers rushing in on a Wednesday afternoon at 2pm when the town is quiet.

It all seemed unassuming enough until I stepped in and was met at the door by a massive great wave of warmth and big-heartedness in the form of one of the owners and their darling dog, while the other owner sang a 70s disco hit with resonant tunefulness in the kitchen. Well, they fairly bowled me over and I was completely sold by the genuinely and gloriously English wonder of it all. The overwhelming plus is the character of the place and the people (and dog) running it. But I can't stop there ... because the food is terrific! Great lunch favourites with happy homey twists and surprises -- a side salad with lovely thick Balsamic vinegar and a couple of scrumptious wild strawberries thrown in for good measure. YUM! Classic faves on offer from flavoursome onion bhajis to sardines to macaroni and cheese. Comforting, yummy English treats. Plus they have iced coffee! And I haven't even mentioned all their tea cakes and scones arranged with fanciful plenitude on a table in full view -- as if the place would explode with laughter and rain down with cakes. The heart of this place definitely has an effect on its clientele. Pretty soon, everyone seems to be friends -- strangers chat together and smile. It's great -- you should really check it out. I think maybe you'll be smiling all day -- a genuine smile, too. :) Oh -- And remember to bring cash. This is like someone's sitting room -- not a place for plastic!

Very small cosy and quirky, with fast friendly service and a small dog in constant attendance. The pea soup was delicious; would not be your ideal place if you suffer from claustrophobia or if you want to have a very private conversation, but lovely for a quick snack.

My partner and I discovered this gem by accident on our way back from exploring the moors. This is a beautifully quirky tea shop. You walk in and it feels like someone's front room, but that's where the similarity ends. We were greeted by the friendly owner and his adorable dog. We had a light lunch. A BLT for my hubby and grilled sardines on toast for me. They also came with a lovely fresh salad with balsamic dressing. Both lunches were just delicious ! This place is, original, quirky,friendly....and probably the best little tea shop in the world!! But Shhhh.....Let's keep it our little secret

Spitting feathers after a 50-mile drive, any old cuppa would have done. Instead, we stumbled on the unexpected delights of The Studio. The first impression that we had walked into a private sitting room was instantly dispelled by a warm welcome from our hosts and fellow customers. Tea and coffee was quickly served, while we enjoyed the affectionate banter and chicly chintzy ambience. The scones and cakes looked good, though we didn't have time to sample. We left The Studio with broad smiles on our faces, and will surely return before long.

My husband and I popped in here on the way back from our holiday in Cornwall. We where greeted by two lovely men and their very friendly dog. It felt very original, almost like you where sat in their loving room. They have a good list of different teas which are brewed in the pot, which I took advantage of with a slic of very nice coffee and walk it cake. If I am in Ashburton again would like to revisit.

We were passing Ashburton and decided to stop off for a bite to eat and a drink. We noticed the Studio Teashop while walking out of the car park and popped in. We were met with a warm welcome by the Hosts and told to make ourselves at home. We ordered a sandwich and a pot of tea. The food was served quickly and the tea was loose tea as opposed to tea bags and came in a large china teapot, got to say it was one of the best brews I've ever had!! The sandwich came with a salad garnish and some crisps, it was very well presented and very nice.Total bill was very reasonable considering the quality of the food and I would not hesitate to recommend The Studio Teashop to anyone visiting Ashburton.

We went in because the tearoom was displaying a trip advisor certificate of excellence, however, for us it didn't live up to the title. It was eclectic and unusual, which we usually love and we were welcomed but it felt grubby. The owners' dog is present, a lovely creature and I'm a dog lover, owning two - however, I don't really want to be jumped up at and licked just as I'm about to eat.We both chose the cottage pie, which I enjoyed but neither of us wanted to linger, not helped by the conversation going on behind the partition in the kitchen where the owners and a local were talking unkindly about another person. It kind of sullied the whole experience. So, we were disappointed and won't be revisiting.

Tucked away in a back street, this little place is a real find. Run by two of the most welcoming chaps who clearly love what they do. It's the mark of a good place when the locals frequent it, and as we enjoyed our drinks (hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows for one and hot apple juice with cloves for me). The have a very friendly dog called Pickles who is usually the first to check out new arrivals and adds to the general ambience and good vibe of this place. It's also very reasonably priced. Definitely worth a visit on many different counts!

What a find! We were warmly greeted and made to feel most welcome. The only downside for me was the quality of the hot chocolate. I'd rather have payed more and had a chocolate made with milk rather than what I guess to be Galaxy ( just add water) -it has a waxy texture!! Anyway, we will definitely return. Highly recommended!!!!

Had the great pleasure of calling in last Saturday for a spot of brunch, it was a super little place, just like home, the boys are wonderful hosts, they are friendly, and attentive. They made us southerners feel right at home, and included us in all the local gossip, and news. The tea shop is small, but cozy, and is full with collectable crap all over the place,I loved that, just like home, the meals were hot, tasty, and presented well, NOT like home!!..its just as well I don't live near, ide be there every day, pestering them for food, and chats, ( gossip)...thank you boys, you made our day, and I,m warning you..WE'LL BE BACK!!..xx Gabbs, Nigel, and Rob..from Kent.

My wife and I went in for tea and scones one afternoon last week. It is a cosy little place, filled with objects and nick-nacks. In the cold light of day, the place feels a little tired, with dusty shelves and chipped china. But it doesn't matter when taken as a whole because the experience is lovely. The two chaps running it are utterly charming and made us feel very welcome. We shared a cream tea and (unlike a lot of places) there was plenty of cream and jam to go with the delicious scones. If we were local, we would happily go back regularly. As it happens, it was the perfect spot to sit and relax for us that day.

Have visited here several times before, but I'm certainly not what I would call a regular, maybe calling in once a year. That said, we decided to take my parents with us this time. I don't think the owners remember me from one year to the next, but the welcome is as if we are old friends. My parents fell in love with this place the moment they walked in. The owners couldn't do enough to make us feel at home and it's obvious to see why the place is full of locals. It seems a real hub of the community. All that aside the tea's and coffee we had were very refreshing, served in lovely china. The scones are wonderful as was the coffee cake we had. It's rare to find such a perfect combination of ambiance and good food. My parents have said they'll be going back, even without us!
