The best restaurants serving British food in Forest of Dean South West

We were visiting the area for the Easter weekend and based on previous reviews booked the White Horse for Sunday lunch...and we were so glad we did! Food, service and the ambiance of the pub were all excellent. The price was relatively expensive, but you get what you pay for.

First time I’ve had a Sunday roast here and I wasn’t dissspointed. It was. Fresh. Good choice , they also offer vegetarian options or gluten free to , the staff are very helpful nothings to much trouble for them , and the pudding is to die for , It’s such a cute cosy little place , lovely atmosphere can’t wait to go back

Summer here so opted for cheese & bacon quiche with salad& chips instead of new potatoes. Look at the size of that plate full and great value for money nearly all meals at £8 or under.

What an utter gem of a place! We went here for the Saturday afternoon Cheese and Beer experience and it was incredible. Great food, great services, great setting and above all great value. The owners were very welcoming and friendly, and couldn't do enough to make sure we enjoyed our time there. We'll definitely be returning when we're next in the area. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

My partner, pup and I stopped on route to Shropshire. We were welcomed by lovely staff who showed us where to log our car for parking. We were shown to our table quickly and a lovely lady brought us a fresh bowl of water for our dog. Our order was taken after a few minutes and drinks arrived shortly afterwards. Our food came quickly and was really tasty. My partner had ham, egg and chips, and I had stuffed vine leaves - both were great. The only reason four stars were given and not five, was the outside looked tired (we had to go inside to check they were open) and the toilets were out of toilet paper and soap - which 45 mins after they opened was a little disappointing.

We enjoyed breakfast here to celebrate a birthday, and were not disappointed. We chose the Light Breakfast, but there are plenty of options to suit everyone. A lot of the ingredients are sourced locally, and all cooked and presented beautifully. With a sweet shop as part of the business, it's possible to leave with an extra treat or two for later. Get yourselves down there!

This is such a lovely little cafe, one you might miss if you weren't aware it was there. The staff are so welcoming and friendly and know the regulars well. The food is competitively priced and the ingredients are all fresh and great quality. we choose to take our food away however there is a lovely little area for eating and appeared very family friendly

We spotted this place on nearby things on Google maps and decided to go seek it out, and what a good choice that was. The 2 ladies there were both lovely, very chatty and made us feel like part of their family. We had the cheese scone with onion chutney and OMG it was amazing. It was one of the best we have ever had. Drinks we had a flat white coffee and a hot chocolate and they even let me have a chocolate flake with it which was really good. They do afternoon teas which we will be booking for next time we are in the area. Highly highly recommend a visit here. They are right on the Railway Drive carpark which costs £4 for all day parking, so nice and easy access. Don't hesitate to pop into here, just go and enjoy a warmed cheese scone (other foods are also available lol). We will deffo be returning here again. I was so sad that due to ill health I was unable to visit The Barge and say farewell to Tina and her husband who have been welcoming me (a very fussy vegetarian and I mean fussy) since I had my 60th Birthday party meal with family and friends. A whole six years of putting up with my menu choices and not batting an eyelid but laughing with me and my husband as to what I would choose. Thank you both for putting up with me it was always a real pleasure to dine with you. I hope you’ve still got my phone number Tina if you ever fancy a cuppa it would be an honour to meet up Shame though not at the Barge. Take care in your retirement and enjoy every day as it comes. What’s happened to this fish and chip shop. Went in there lunch time for two fish and chips had to wait 10 minutes for them to cook it and when I got it the cod was the size of a fish finger the batter was tasteless and the fish still had the shin on . I don’t know what oil they cook with but guessing it’s Castrol engine oil the chips were all stuck together by it. This was very disappointing as always been happy in the past

Oh my the coffee is beautiful. They served me just as they closed (OK just after) if I'd have known it was that good I'd have bought two... Didn't buy food, but next time

Lovely pub and had an amazing Sunday roast. The staff were very friendly and I would say it is a must visit!!! Can’t wait to come again.

Just had a delightful afternoon tea yesterday at this lovely little spot and cannot recommend it highly enough. We have sampled afternoon tea in many top notch hotels and none of them come close to what the Cake room offers. Fresh home made soup to start followed by scones with jam and cream, a selection of sandwiches and wraps, gorgeous sausage rolls and a wonderful selection of sweet treats and all home made. Absolutely beautiful and enough left over to fill two large boxes to take home. We will def be back. Welll done to the owner and the lovely staff working there!

What a beautiful location. Well presented food for a comfortable budget

This is the second time we have visited The Miners Sling and sadly, this visit was not as good as the previous one. The food was ok but they only had one bread left and this was prior to 7pm so our ploughman's lunch was rather lacking in something to eat the cheddar with. Maybe a few crackers would have been a helpful accompaniment to the one piece of bread provided? Service was tardy too. Shame.
