The best restaurants serving British food in Forest of Dean South West

We were visiting the area for the Easter weekend and based on previous reviews booked the White Horse for Sunday lunch...and we were so glad we did! Food, service and the ambiance of the pub were all excellent. The price was relatively expensive, but you get what you pay for.

First time I’ve had a Sunday roast here and I wasn’t dissspointed. It was. Fresh. Good choice , they also offer vegetarian options or gluten free to , the staff are very helpful nothings to much trouble for them , and the pudding is to die for , It’s such a cute cosy little place , lovely atmosphere can’t wait to go back

Summer here so opted for cheese & bacon quiche with salad& chips instead of new potatoes. Look at the size of that plate full and great value for money nearly all meals at £8 or under.

A really excellent tiny deli! We had the best time at an informal (and very reasonably priced) cheese and beer tasting. They were very accommodating of my dietary requirements (gluten free) and do lots of excellent alternative local brews and non-alcoholics for those who don’t want the beer. We ended up ordering additional bits such as olives, charcuterie and sour dough which was all fantastic. The owners were so friendly and their passion for great, local food made it all the more of a lovely experience. The sitting area looks out the shop front window and as an added bonus you can watch the world go by as you eat.

We enjoyed breakfast here to celebrate a birthday, and were not disappointed. We chose the Light Breakfast, but there are plenty of options to suit everyone. A lot of the ingredients are sourced locally, and all cooked and presented beautifully. With a sweet shop as part of the business, it's possible to leave with an extra treat or two for later. Get yourselves down there!

This is such a lovely little cafe, one you might miss if you weren't aware it was there. The staff are so welcoming and friendly and know the regulars well. The food is competitively priced and the ingredients are all fresh and great quality. we choose to take our food away however there is a lovely little area for eating and appeared very family friendly

We spotted this place on nearby things on Google maps and decided to go seek it out, and what a good choice that was. The 2 ladies there were both lovely, very chatty and made us feel like part of their family. We had the cheese scone with onion chutney and OMG it was amazing. It was one of the best we have ever had. Drinks we had a flat white coffee and a hot chocolate and they even let me have a chocolate flake with it which was really good. They do afternoon teas which we will be booking for next time we are in the area. Highly highly recommend a visit here. They are right on the Railway Drive carpark which costs £4 for all day parking, so nice and easy access. Don't hesitate to pop into here, just go and enjoy a warmed cheese scone (other foods are also available lol). We will deffo be returning here again. We stopped here on the way to see the wild daffodils. The food was very good, nicest salad dressing I have had. Good menu with uncommon choices. The staff were very kind and helpful.

I was so sad that due to ill health I was unable to visit The Barge and say farewell to Tina and her husband who have been welcoming me (a very fussy vegetarian and I mean fussy) since I had my 60th Birthday party meal with family and friends. A whole six years of putting up with my menu choices and not batting an eyelid but laughing with me and my husband as to what I would choose. Thank you both for putting up with me it was always a real pleasure to dine with you. I hope you’ve still got my phone number Tina if you ever fancy a cuppa it would be an honour to meet up Shame though not at the Barge. Take care in your retirement and enjoy every day as it comes. Excellent value for money. Huge and tasty portions. Prompt, friendly service. Free parking around the corner.

This little spot was a great place to find, sitting outside in the sunshine with hot chocolate and a slice of GF Carrot Cake was just lovely. We were disappointed that the ambulance collecting their coffees parked in front of our view with their diesel engine running for 20 mins, perhaps someone should tell them.

Having been disappointed on our last visit we decided to give it another chance so we took our guests for Sunday lunch. Dispite there only being two other tables of diners it took more than 35 minutes for our meal to arrive. Ten minutes after we finished the meal ,the plates were taken away we weren't asked if would like a dessert. 25 minutes after that we paid the bill and left having not seen the waitress since she cleared our table. Food was mediocre

Lovely pub and had an amazing Sunday roast. The staff were very friendly and I would say it is a must visit!!! Can’t wait to come again.

This place is fabulous! Always fresh, home cooked food, decent portions and good selection. Fantastic food, great atmosphere, friendly service and good value …what’s not to love?!

Just had a delightful afternoon tea yesterday at this lovely little spot and cannot recommend it highly enough. We have sampled afternoon tea in many top notch hotels and none of them come close to what the Cake room offers. Fresh home made soup to start followed by scones with jam and cream, a selection of sandwiches and wraps, gorgeous sausage rolls and a wonderful selection of sweet treats and all home made. Absolutely beautiful and enough left over to fill two large boxes to take home. We will def be back. Welll done to the owner and the lovely staff working there!
