My friend and I stayed overnight at the Duke of Marlborough and enjoyed not only dinner there but breakfasts as well. The meals they prepared were excellent and only outmatched by their hospitality and friendliness.

Great place. We come often and always get great food and service. Lovely in winter as have real fires. If a group book the window table. If a couple enjoy the trivial pursuit cards on each table. Dogs well catered for and welcome so great after a winter walk

Unwelcoming from the staff. Afternoon tea was limited to one very small pot of tea person with only 4 choices of tea. Egg mayo and salmon in tiny rolls and pureed! One delicious coronation chicken finger sandwich but then an unappetising cucumber and mint one. The rolls were tiny. Scones were nice. Cakes also tiny. People who wanted to take cakes home were provided with boxes meant for wraps. Not value for money and not the pleasant experience we had two years ago.

Good lunch selection. Very nice salads and a good choice of panini. It’s not very clear when you go in what to do if you want to sit inside to eat as all the boards are headed up as takeaway menus. The seating area is really just there to eat the takeaway - so order what you’d like and then take it through to eat. It might be good to make this clearer for customers especially when it’s busy. Overall though the food and coffee were delicious so well worth a lunch stop.

a new menu and some new staff have not improved this cafe, but made it worse. The staff were not very friendly, the tea was weak and the cooked breakfast was stone cold. Quite expensive for a poor offering.

Well done The Nest on a fabulous dining experience. The food taste and presentation was outstanding. This is definitely going on our top table of eating out.

We had intended going here for a meal during our stay, but after visiting for drink decided it wasn’t a good choice. The menu was extremely limited as they were running down stock as they were shortly closing down as the property had been sold. The property was tired and mismatched and seemed to be frequented by local drinkers. The location near the river could have been a great place and hopefully the new owners have capitalized on this. We would certainly look in again if we were visiting the area just to see how it had changed. There is stiff competition in the area with other fine eateries and pubs

I ordered a cheese and pickle bap for £9 including coleslaw. Another £3 for chips (a small portion) so £12 for a cheese and pickle bap and chips. Expensive I thought, but I really fancied it - I assumed it would be very nice for that price. A 'bap' I thought would be a large white floured bread roll, the cheese I thought would be sliced quality mature cheddar with (hopefully) Branston pickle. It was just awful! It was a small broiche burger bun that has been toasted, it was grated, tasteless cheese and the pickle was so runny it ran out of the bun and tasted really cheap, like catering pickle. And, to make matters worse there were 3 of us, I ordered and paid separately to the other two (but at the same time at the bar) and I asked for all 3 dishes to come together but they brought mine out well before the others. So, the toasted burger bun had become like cardboard as it went cold and I couldn't even cut it with a knife! Very, very poor quality ingredients for a £9 cheese and pickle bap. I left over half of it. Really disappointed by the rubbish, mass catering ingredients being served, felt really ripped off and would not go back there.

I will start with the positives. We were a large group-around 14 including two young children. We were given a lovely private area. The children were very well catered for. Our server was amazing, all the more so given the appalling lack of communication from her managers (not that she was disloyal to them). Most of the dishes ordered were well prepared and tasted good. All this was marred by some fundamental failings. Quite reasonably given the size of our group we were asked to pre-order a week in advance. However, when we arrived we were informed that Crispy Squid ordered by five of the party was not available. The excuse given was that the squid had not been in the morning's delivery. Instead of trying to source supplies from elsewhere the pub chose to disappoint us. They had a week to get what they offered us and failed. I was reminded by another guest that this had happened on our previous visit in December. Clearly they haven't learned from this inconsistent supplier. My daughter had pre-ordered the Bruschetta with pea puree, pea shoots, radish and plant based feta. It did not arrive with everyone else's starters. The kitchen was informed and a few minutes later a piece of dry toasted bread covered with green peas, radish slices and feta arrived. Presumably she was meant to puree the peas and sprout some of them herself! The dish was returned and my daughter forewent a starter. A number of us ordered buttermilk deep fried chicken. The chicken and coleslaw base were lovely but the crispy batter was somewhere between well done and burnt. Finally the server had not been informed that two of our group were oeliac. Communication between the management and the servers and kitchen really needs to be improved in this establishment.
