We stayed here for lunch an overnight stay and breakfast. Lunch was lovely, tasty and hit . The room we stayed in was the suite. A little rough with marked walls and a broken toilet which we mentioned when we arrived but was not fixed. There was a nice large comfortable bed. It would be good if the TV was on a wall bracket so it could be watched from the bed. Breakfast was a little disappointing. I don’t think the early morning suited our server. We asked her if there was any brown sauce, she said she would check but no update until I asked her again and the answer was no … forgetful? Toast was also forgotten about.

I will start with the positives. We were a large group-around 14 including two young children. We were given a lovely private area. The children were very well catered for. Our server was amazing, all the more so given the appalling lack of communication from her managers (not that she was disloyal to them). Most of the dishes ordered were well prepared and tasted good. All this was marred by some fundamental failings. Quite reasonably given the size of our group we were asked to pre-order a week in advance. However, when we arrived we were informed that Crispy Squid ordered by five of the party was not available. The excuse given was that the squid had not been in the morning's delivery. Instead of trying to source supplies from elsewhere the pub chose to disappoint us. They had a week to get what they offered us and failed. I was reminded by another guest that this had happened on our previous visit in December. Clearly they haven't learned from this inconsistent supplier. My daughter had pre-ordered the Bruschetta with pea puree, pea shoots, radish and plant based feta. It did not arrive with everyone else's starters. The kitchen was informed and a few minutes later a piece of dry toasted bread covered with green peas, radish slices and feta arrived. Presumably she was meant to puree the peas and sprout some of them herself! The dish was returned and my daughter forewent a starter. A number of us ordered buttermilk deep fried chicken. The chicken and coleslaw base were lovely but the crispy batter was somewhere between well done and burnt. Finally the server had not been informed that two of our group were oeliac. Communication between the management and the servers and kitchen really needs to be improved in this establishment.

Myself and my husband and friends have regularly stayed at the Kings Arms enjoying its atmosphere, food and rooms. So much so, for my father’s birthday celebration and his brother’s visit from the US in April, I booked 4 double rooms for 2 nights and dinner for the first evening. Without rambling too much, dinner and breakfasts on both mornings were terrible experiences, long waits, cold food, missing items, poached eggs which were solely hard cooked yolks! Having waited an hour on our last morning, I had to leave without breakfast as it never even materialised. I did wonder if the chef was simply inexperienced or out to sabotage the pub and still don’t know what the issue was during our stay. Having complained to Fullers (as there was no one on site to complain to when we left), I was offered a £100 voucher, which couldn’t be put towards anything other than food/drink at a Fullers pub. Not accepting this as each of our 4 groups needed to be compensated having spent a lot of money over the 2 days (and 2 live in the States) we agreed an amount per group. I am still awaiting this compensation after 2 months of constant chasing. I don’t usually use this site to complain to/embarrass/‘diss’ places preferring to sort it out with the people or company involved, but needless to stay my love affair with the Kings Arms is sadly over.

Was a nice evening and we've thought for a while we'd like to visit here so drove to Woodstock especially - we're fairly local but this was a special journey. Entered the bar (drinks only required). Bar appeared devoid of staff apart from one who glanced at us briefly and walked off. We thought they might be back but it seems they thought otherwise. We waited for five minutes and nobody came so we walked out. For a first visit, not impressed.

We stayed here for 2 nights with our dog. The hotel part of the building is full of character. We were on the first floor. The rooms are spacious, modern and well thought out. The only issue is location. This is a very old building dating to the 1500’s and is now on the main A road through the village. The road noise (even through double glazing) gave us a disturbed nights sleep. The beds could also do with an upgrade. Other guests have commented on the parking. We had no issue with this at all and parked adjacent to the pub with ease. This may be very different in peak season. The breakfast options were wide ranging and very good. We also ate in the bar and the food was good. For a pub stay, we had a good experience and the location is excellent in easy walking distance of everything that Woodstock has to offer, including beautiful walks around Blenheim estate.

Its not a bad place but. The room was very hot in December. I don't know how as the radiator was off. So we opened the window and the traffic noise from the main road was unbearable and I got no sleep at all. The 2nd night we kept the window closed, but I found it too hot to sleep. The bed has a large solid wooden frame which looks nice, but was very easy to whack your legs on, so I would not advise this for elderly people. There are good quality teas and coffees in the room, but only those rubbish sachets of milk. The room was pleasant enough. The breakfast seemed to be made with no love and was one of our worst in the last few years. The rate for this hotel on a Saturday night was expensive and this is not value for money. The staff had a bit of a laisse faire attitude. Not bad, not great.

We booked in advance and arrived 45 mins early. We were asked to “park yourselves in the bar” - no problem. At booked time we were shown to a table for 2 with only 1 chair and no other spare chairs around. We were then left for 20 mins without being asked for a drink or food order. Finally - “can I get you anything? We were then advised food was a 45 wait. No thanks. When we spoke to a disinterested manager about our poor experience she said they were overrun. Won’t be going back.

It was very quiet, Friday lunch time 2ish hardly anyone in the place. I ordered soup £8.50 which was a shocker! Tomato and red pepper, It was really thick and not at all nice. Served with brown bread, given to me with no butter (had to ask, then it was so cold I couldn’t spread it). No check back, you could hear the staff talking with each other, larking about (all seemed very young), Half the table was cleared, half wasn’t. I’d left my soup but no comment was made, or asked me about it (when eventually it was cleared), so I said something but nothing back, The whole experience was poor - poor food, poor service. I should have refused to accept it, but then I would have to sit there watching my wife eat hers until a fresh one came out. the only reason the batter can be as burnt as that is when the oil has detereated so bad that it needs changing, pure laziness on the kitchen side. manager needs to take control !!! would not eat here again and would not recommend. shame because its only the kitchen letting the side down. staff are great.

We arrived for a meal and were well greeted. We ordered off the specials menu a steak and pasta dish along with a side of cheesy garlic bread. The meals arrived along with side dishes and the cheesy Garlic bread must have been the most expensive per square inch in Europe as it arrived being 1.5 inches wide by 3 inches long for £3.50! When questioning with the server he became very defensive and aggressive and said that the head chef has to make his GP on meals and this is how it’s done. The steak was Over cooked and the child’s pasta watery and sauce had no taste. And with the waiter now avoiding us there was no table check done and no sign of any staff Having been to other restaurants in the village this would be by far the worst and we will never return. Update - at the end of the meal the sever agreed and actually deducted from the bill with an apology but still did not make us feel comfortable being in the establishment

We went on the Thursday night the previous three nights of course being the Government “Eat out to help out scheme. As expected there were not many in the restaurant so we were expecting a quick fire order, eat up and get out as we want to go home early approach from the staff. What a surprise. The staff were attentive, smiling, interactive and professional and turned what could have been a rather flat night into quite an enjoyable one. Helped of course in no small part my some good food. The locally farmed sirloin was excellent, tender and cooked to my liking, my wife really enjoyed the battered fish with its light batter and chunky freshness. The portions were ample so we shared a trio of the locally produced buffalo milk ice cream which was both interesting and likeable.Professional restaurant staff can help turn a flat night into a rather enjoyable one and on this night they took the time and effort to do that. Of course it doesn’t work if the food doesn’t deliver but on this night for us it did.

We have had an annual Xmas light lunch and walk for many years and usually meet and eat at the King's Arms. Very disappointed with todays meal. May be a holiday staff issue as the waitress was a bit confused, so I am sorry to complain but it was not their usual standards. We were quite happy with the staff not knowing what beers were on tap and they did their best to inform us - no problem. We ordered three "Owton's pork sausage & caramelised onion ciabatta" at £8.50 each but were a bit surprised to be asked "what sort of bread?" when ciabatta was on the menu. We suggested "brown granary" expecting crusty home made bread or similar but got unappealing brown sliced bread and essentially this was a sausage sandwich with a bit of lettuce for nearly £10! Bread was a bit stale and appeared to have been defrosted. We also ordered for £13.50 the "Tea & hop smoked haddock & leek fishcake, spinach, poached egg, Hollandaise" which was just a fishcake with a tiny bit of green with a egg on the top, well as described but it was more of a starter than a main course. We decided against sweet and order coffees an expresso, Americano and cappuccino but got two expresso's and an cappuccino instead. Add to this a long wait. Total cost £20 a head including drinks and a tip which they probably did not deserve, but it was Xmas. Probably will eat elsewhere next year which is a shame as the atmosphere there is great. I think my last review was at least 4 stars or better.

Service was poor from the start. We had reserved a table for two for a birthday meal, and when I arrived they tried to seat us on the only non-laid up table in an almost empty restaurant. When ordering, we asked a couple of questions about the size of the portions, and were told not to order the large salad as the waiter had done so once and "felt like a cow". Not sure what he was implying. We have the "avocado & pesto bruschetta, roasted tomato salsa". The meanest amount of avocado, spread thinly like Marmite. A 20p size blob of pesto and the salsa?! I think it was tomato ketchup. Next up was the main course. I had gone for the "hot smoked salmon nicoise salad" but asked for the egg to be hard boiled as I don't like runny yolks. I didn't think I was asking alot, but it came out with a barely cooked poached egg on the top. I pointed this out to the waiter who ensured me it was hard boiled and told me to cut into it to prove his point. I did, and yolk poured across my salad. I asked for the egg to be removed and so the waiter did just that, leaving yolk all over my salad (which had the potatoes been cooked for another few minutes, would have been okay. Generous quantities of salmon!). We declined the pudding menu and were left alone for around 40 mins. When we went up to the bar to ask for the bill, we were simply chucked a receipt. Not the level of service we were looking for on a special birthday meal. There are many other pubs in Woodstock, most of which I have tried. I will not be returning here.

Wir waren da zum Essen. Die junge Bedienung war sehr nett und bemüht. Das Essen war ok. Ich habe aber schon besser gegessen. Die Käseplatte war prima.

I have had a quiet dinner in the back with great food and conversation. I have also been to the pub side on 1/2 price champagne night. Love the atmosphere and the mix of people and community. Really great place to meet after a long day at the office and spend time with the team and the locals.

Three of us visited for dinner on a busy Friday night. The bar was very busy but the restaurant was more peaceful, although relatively full. The dining area is good quality and the menu/food were good. The service was maybe a little slower than would be ideal - the young servers clearly had quite a few customers to deal with. Overall though this was a decent experience.

I am enjoying my stay. Staff have been friendly and informative with local knowledge. Parking however is an issue. I needed to be fairly near as I have walking issues , so you do need to drive round to find disabled parking. Blenheim is within walking distance from hotel to house 30 minutes walk. Also not far from the Cotswolds. Bourton on water like little Venice. It’s surrounded by middle England villages.

We went for a third time for breakfast .... waited 30mins for a badly cooked tasteless plate of food . We were very disappointed as the previous 2 visits were excellent. We left not even stating the good we informed the staff and left without paying Worth noting a change of staff on this occasion. A shame really we won’t be returning there .

Not sure where to start it was so bad. Looked at reviews on trip advisor and reserved as notified on trip advisor. To reserve sent a link and given options to eat ‘ drinks with food’ so given reviews asked to be seated near fire. This was Wednesday evening at 7 pm. Arrived no table reserved and asked if I had a dog !!! Given impression that they were not aware of reservation and found out they clearly knew I had reserved and just not bothered. Said would sit on nearest table. Asked for gin and tonic - ‘what gin?’ Asked for Cotswolds. Five minutes later told don’t have it - ok have you got Gordon’s? Yes . Came back five minutes later - don’t have Gordon’s will I have tanquery. Ok . Ordered food . Came back again one of the starters not available so ordered a range of breads. Kofta arrived and breads. Probably the worst food I have had in years and that is not an exaggeration. Kofta was piece of rubber meat which I couldn’t eat and breads were stale and some of it was just pieces of toast!!!!!! Photos attached .

Great bar, and I wish I had such a stylish place in my town. Restaurant was fantastic - lots of space between tables, perfect moody lighting, and very stylish. We both ordered burgers, but they were both over cooked and a bit dry, which was a bit disappointing, as cooking a burger for a chef, Should not be difficult.

In short, quite poor really; dined in the restaurant and the menu looked really good, however, the food on arrival was pretty average which would've been fine at low rent pub prices but not for what we were charged.

My wife and I dropped in today on the way home and had a really great meal. The spinach and mushroom lasagna was outstanding (the chef came out as I was finishing my meal so I was able to thank him personally). My wife had the chicken and ham pie and she really enjoyed it.

Visited with friends and all found the food to be very good so can’t fault the chef. The service however was extremely poor. Staff have to be sought out to serve you (not that busy either), don’t even look over to see if you need anything or would like more drinks. Had to ask them to come to us to order drinks then food and again for the desert menu. Although the waiter that was working did check if everything was ok whilst we were eating our main course. We asked to pay the bill which was brought over and then no one returned to take the money so we had to ask and were told she would come over. The waitress then went off to get a plate of food that she began to eat behind the bar in front of customers and chatted to the other staff. So we had to ask again.

This place is so cosy and comfy. Roaring fire was on is well. Great choices of food...for us...late lunch. We had all lovely sandwiches. Unfortunately, the staff wasn't the fastest nor most of the time to be found. One of the staff ladies looked so bored when she was serving. Bit on the rude side, really. Luckily we had time. Not sure to go back there, because of the slow service

This restaurant has a nice vibe, the food we had was excellent, particularly the calves liver which was beautifully soft with a rich mushroom sauce to stir into smooth mashed potatoes. the fish and chips was good if not exceptional. It was nice to see some different cheeses on the cheese board which, while overpriced, was very tasty.

This was busy on a Saturday evening and looked promising, however we felt we were very rushed through our meal - about 30 seconds after the plate of breads was cleared our main was delivered to us. It must have been cooked and stab waiting on hot plates. Not sure that was great as had upset stomach after the calves liver. Service OK, ambiance OK but all in all expensive for what we had and nothing special unfortunately.

We stopped in Woodstock for dinner after visiting Blenheim Palace and were able to get a table for four without a reservation. The food was excellent and very well presented from a varied menu and specials board. Portion sizes were good and presented on proper plates without any pretentious slates etc. We were offered a carafe of water straight away which was very welcome on a hot day. The staff were very professional and friendly. We all enjoyed our meal and would go back again.

Had a three night stay at the Bell loved it! I extended our stay by a night and couldn’t get the same room as our original booking not disappointed in any way. Our first night was in Teasel a lovely room plenty of room with a nice shower wash room. Nice big comfortable bed. Friday and Saturday night we stayed in the room Hazel it’s situated above the barn. Amazing room with great views across countryside. This room is big loads of space to chill after a busy day in the Cotswolds. A super king sized bed and lovely shower /bathroom (huge bath). We weren’t going to dine at the Bell but as we had booked the extra night decided to have evening meal and breakfast on our first night. Both meals were delicious so also booked for Friday evening again delicious. The staff at the Bell are all very friendly and helpful hard working as whatever we asked nothing was too much trouble whatsoever . Thanks to all at the Bell for making our first visit to the Cotswolds a very special experience. Richard and Keeli x

Following a family emergency, I rang to cancel my table and was charged £70 without my permission. They will say it's on the website, however it wasn't prominent enough for me to notice during the booking process. We had been before and found the food OK and the staff a little arrogant but wanted to try again as hoped it was an anomaly as the surroundings are lovely. There will not be a third time, I have been told by several people that this business makes a loss, that is hearsay and I can't confirm that but after this cynical charge, it would seem they have to make money at all costs.
