My friend and I stayed overnight at the Duke of Marlborough and enjoyed not only dinner there but breakfasts as well. The meals they prepared were excellent and only outmatched by their hospitality and friendliness.

Around 30 of our family members, 6 who had travelled from the United States, gathered to have lunch there on Sunday. The staff were very accommodating for such a large number and the food was excellent as was the service. A big thank you to all involved in providing a perfect place for our family reunion which lasted throughout the afternoon

Lovely stay, couldn’t fault the accommodation, it was very clean, warm with lovely fluffy towels and plenty of hot water. The bed was a bit hard for me so didn’t sleep that well but my husband slept like a log and it was fine for him. We had dinner in the restaurant and that was very nice and well priced. The only fault was that the mash was over salted - and that is from someone who loves salt! Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment. The sausage and bacon were hard - not crispy, more rubbery but the scrambled eggs were perfect. The porridge wasn’t cooked out properly and was lumpy, claggy and chewy instead of creamy and only filter coffee was included- they charged extra for cappuccino or latte and also charged extra for several breakfast items on the menu. Overall I would stay here again but would not opt for the breakfast option.

Called in at lunchtime. Hubby ordered the steak baguette, I was supposed to have the Hereford burger, but the waiter misheard me and I had the falafel burger. I decided to go with that and I wasn’t disappointed. Served with fries it was lovely. Staff were warm and welcoming and the pub itself, atmospheric and cosy. The food came very quickly was excellent quality.

Stayed the night at The Duke, lovely pub but let down by burnt toast at breakfast (and no offer of more toast). Staff member was rude when asked for butter. Just not felt welcomed, which was a shame for an overall pleasant stay. The evening meal was superb (Onglet steak for two) reasonably priced.

The Duke could luckily accommodate the 3 of us for a last minute Sunday lunch. On arrival the bar area was buzzing with people and their dogs. On booking we were asked if we were bringing a dog as there are separate areas. We were dog less and was quickly seated to a table in a lovely open room, at first we were the only diners in there, people with dogs walked through our dining room and out through the rear doors to I presume more seating. Drinks ordered including Rose Zinfandel - large (hubby is slowly learning!) Our food came quickly, served by a lovely young lad, who knew how to talk to people! you could either have a single meat ie. Beef, or you could have a slice of roast Lamb, Pork and Beef. We all chose this option which came with a huge Yorkshire pudding and a small dish of veg which cauliflower cheese and some greens. Roast potatoes were already on the plate, and were perfect! The gravy came on the plate but an extra jug came with the veg. It was utterly delicious, everything, all of it!! My only niggle which is my fault for not checking, was the beef was rare, very rare for me. The hubby didn’t complain!!! Despite being full we ordered one cheesecake between the two of us. Again utterly delicious! To sum up we could not fault the food, we came away very full and happy! We will definitely go back when over that way again!! The pub has a connection to MND and gave you the opportunity to give a donation when paying your bill, this was on the back of the menu and it’s a disease that a very good friend of mines dad suffered with and died from. So a donation was a must. As is a visit to this place! We have not stopped talking about how delicious the food was!

We stayed here on the 13th june. Found it very easy. Beautiful looking place and well kept. The staff was very friendly and nothing was to much trouble. Got shown to our room (room 4) the room was plenty big enough for the 2 of us and was very clean and bright. Could not fault it all. We never had dinner as we was out for the evening, but we did have breakfast in the morning. Again the staff was great and plenty to choose from,i had the full english and it was lovely. Top quality ingredients used and beautifully cooked. The only negative for me was the room was a bit on the pricy side for us. But does not take away the fact it was a beautiful lovely place to stay and we would stay here again. Thank you guys for making us so welcome. Norma & Andy

There's 2 reviews here as we stayed at the b&b and ate in the pub. The b&b, nice size room for 2 people and dog friendly which was great. There is a secret garden to use if you want to be outside. It's very close to a free public walkway into Blenheim. It wasn't the cleanest, the bathroom ceiling was covered in spider webs, and the bedroom had some too. Also the TV wasn't smart, not the end of the world but TV shows that evening happened to be awful so we ended up just going to sleep early. Restaurant, food was really nice dinner and breakfast, both the young lad and the Team Leader were very polite and food came out quickly, I've only put it as 3 stars because for what we paid to stay I expected a little more.

Great service, Amazing food and a warm welcome!! And that’s just based on the takeaway service so far!! It’s under new management and is called The Duke now!! And opening in a lockdown was a brave thing to do and must be something special .... it is!! The breakfast bacon & egg rolls got me hooked and the coffee complements well!! For the first time I’d tried a takeaway meal from a pub and it was their first pie night, lush and not to be missed and following that I had their fish & chips!! Again lush, however, it didn’t make it home as the smell made me pull into a lay-by and eat them there!! I really can’t wait until the restrictions are lifted and a can have a sit down meal there!! Well done under difficult circumstances and COVID-19 precautions in place!!

Popped in on the off chance, good pint, but food wasn't fantastic I had tuna steak which wasn't very warm when it was served, partner had steak which wasn't cooked how he asked, staff returned it back to the kitchen where it was cooked better and added fresh salad, but I have already eaten my dinner by the time my partner steak was cooked properly... Little disappointed as we had heard food was very good, plus side staff friendly and helpful and a very good pint of cider.

Nice old building, that was toasty on a chilly day. Our table was right next to the fire too which was nice. We arrived early but that wasn’t a problem and the young lady behind the bar sorted our table straiaght away for us. The afternoon tea had a selection of 3 types of sandwich. 2 warm scones with cream and jam, and 3 big slices of different cakes. All served with a big pot of tea, from a nice pot with lovely crockery too. The scones were so good! Big, warm and crumbly. We took the cakes home as couldn’t fit them in. The venue was friendly and informal, but the staff were smiley and attentive. I’d visit again without hesitation.

I called in for lunch after a nearby business visit last week, accompanied by my dog, who I did not wish to leave in the car. The bar was not full – there was only an adult education group presumably having an end-of-term drink, none of whom seemed to notice dog, nor even to take offence! - and I was able to order my lunch and a drink promptly. I sat quietly reading, with dog silent under the table. Then I was approached by a foreign-sounding male who told me that dogs were forbidden (there is no notice to this effect and I was not in the restaurant party of this pub) so I got up and left. I wonder who got to eat my lunch! This policy achieves nothing except to reduce potential clientele.

Chose this pub due to the extensive gluten free options. While it’s great that there is plenty of choice, we won’t be returning in a hurry. The GF yorkshire pudding was still frozen in the middle for one person, and it was flat and hard. Had significantly better ones elsewhere. The skin was left on the pale, barely battered cod for the fish and chips from the kids menu, meaning the child wouldn’t even touch it. Never had that before thankfully.Puddings were much more successful, tasty and good choices. Had high hopes to make this a regular visit but It’s not to be.

We ate in on both nights, the food was excellent with plenty of to choose from, especially for celiac's, almost all things, even Beef and ail pie and treacle pudding with custard, what a treat. The staff were all great, and kept saying sorry for the delay as they were a chef short but it was not noticeable, things seem to be running like clockwork. Situated a mile or so out of Woodstock, this pub misses out on most of the tourist trade, except for the odd coach trip. Service is good enough, and although lacking character, the pub has a log fire in Winter. Food varies according to which chef is on duty and how long they remain before moving on. Pricing is lower than Woodstock pubs, but not by much, and parking is easy which cannot be said for most of Woodstock. If you are looking for a basic, no frills meal by all means give it a go. I would suggest it is not the place for a special occasion.

The experience was not as good as we had a couple of years ago. I had a starter from the small plates and was happy with my choice. Both my husband's and my main course was disappointing. I had stroganoff and there was very little meat in it. My husband had fish pie which contained 4 large bones - this is unacceptable as these bones would have been easily visible in the small chunks of fish.

We stayed Thursday 29th November for one night. Arrived mid morning, not expecting to be able to register until after lunch and were pleasantly surprised to be able to book in and have a coffee in the bar/lounge in front of a warm fire whilst we waited 10 minutes for the room to be ready. Friends joined us for lunch in the restaurant area of the bar again with a decent fire burning, excellent food, company and service. The rooms are located outside in a modern motel type complex and were comfortable and roomy. The only downside to an otherwise brilliant stay was the lack of consistently hot water in the morning. Looking at previous reviews it looks as if this has been a problem previously.

Chips slightly let down the meal, not quite sure if it was the fat used, hence why a 4 not a 5, but not bad enough to strut and shout. £24.50 & £12.75 respectively. The beef was the most expensive item on the menu, there are specials and good selection for vegetarians and they will try and adapt any meal to accomodate individual needs. We visited Woodstock and other surrounding villages and then went for afternoon tea a voucher from a family member. We arrived and were greeted in reception, how lovely. The large inglenook fireplace area with two lovely sofas the table was being prepared ready for us, we chatted to the owner who was very nice, cheery and a great sense of humour. We had already had a light lunch in Woodstock we said, his reply was ' that was lucky as the tea to be expected would be quite filling' I've had afternoon tea before at posh hotels lots of money, how filling could it be. Well a lovely young lady finished off our table and brought our Afternoon Tea, shock horror with great delight the portions were ENORMOUS, lovely sandwiches just freshly made, you could tell, large portions of cake so light but filling and the warm scones, we couldn't keep the cream and jam to stay on them, this is a good thing not a complaint, Large lovely pots of Hot, Hot tea, yes pots were warmed so the tea was hot with every cup and there were many cups to be had. We even had refills, finally we were stuffed to the brim with still 2 pieces of cake to take away, boxed lovely for us and 2 hours later we thought we had better drive home, we were so comfy and enjoying the moment. We left the pub and were just sitting in the car in the car park planning our journey home when the owner was at the door waving us off. How nice was that. Thank you, Thank you for the best Afternoon Tea I have every had. G & G

I met friends here for coffee and then lunch. The coffee was not impressive but the lunch was nicely cooked, portions were generous and the menu was varied (although sweet chilli sauce seemed to feature a little too often.) However there didn't appear to be any light options or bar snacks (or if there were we were not offered them) and the menus were whisked away when we ordered our food - which was a shame as the wine list was on the other side! I didn't have a dessert but my friends all did and were happy with them. On rather a grey November day it was warm and welcoming with open fires and a relaxed style. Service was rather slow, but to balance that there was no sense of being hassled or outstaying our welcome!

Sunday roast was nice and hot when served, plenty of meat but a bit lacking on veg. Very accommodating for children. Service slightly slow (except at the bar) and could have been friendlier but no major issue. The dessert choice was good - I had the sticky fig pudding which was great. Overall a pleasant, clean pub with good quality fare.

If you have your own transport then The Duke of Marlborough is a great place to stay. We enjoyed a lovely meal and glass of wine by the fire, Bfast was lovely, staff friendly and helpful and rooms comfortable and spacious. Great proximity to Blenheim Castle, beautiful Woodstock and Oxford.

30 of us, including 4 kids, a baby and a disabled woman, visited for lunch. We pre-ordered and every flexibility was shown when I kept having to change details of our booking! The staff could not have been more welcoming on the day either. We had an area to ourselves which was perfect. Food was delicious and very well received by all :)

We stayed here because we wanted to visit Blenheim Palace. What a good find! The rooms were lovely, and the staff so helpful and they even sell the tickets to Blenheim so you save time, we drove straight in! The food was good , both the breakfast and the evening meals.

We chose to hold our children's 18th Birthday meal here as recommended by someone. We booked for eleven of us to eat on a Sunday evening when it was a little quieter. After waiting ten minutes, the waitress came in with menus then back to take our orders. Between us we had six starters of which one was cold and two were overcooked. Those who hadn't had starters waited a total of one and half hours before eating. The mains came out ....where do I start. The gammon was charred, the fish pie resembled soup under a neat potato top, both burgers were black and you couldn't even recognise the cheese on top. In all, seven meals were very poor and one was left untouched. We were never asked if deserts were wanted and had to ask on two separate occasions for the table to be cleared. When you book for such a special occasion (our quadruplets 18th Birthday) the last thing you expect is for your family to go home hungry. We complained more than once and were told they were busy at lunchtime and 'stood down ' two of the chefs. We booked for our meal nearly four weeks in advance, so how could this have happened? The only saving grace was that our bill had been fully written off. This meal will always be remembered, but for all the wrong reasons.

We stopped in here without a reservation and were happily accommodated. My husband wanted a real Sunday roast dinner so he ordered the roast lamb. It came with all the traditional sides: roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, gravy, and veggies. Everything was well-prepared: no mushy veggies or overcooked meat! I had the nut roast which was also delicious. We had dessert too which was rich and delicious. The staff were all friendly and joked around with. The dining room itself was bright and comfortable.

Very very basic food. Not cooked with any style or taste, bland boring and a waste, ok if you want really basic reheated microwave stuff, don't recommend for anyone that loves good food. Very expensive for poor quality :-( Staff ok but seemed bored and uninterested. Decor old fashioned without being quaint really needs some tlc in all areas

We called in for supper and were greeted by a friendly barmaid in this cosy pub. I am trying to avoid high fat meals so couldn't try my favourite lasagne, but really enjoyed the seafood platter. The food was tasty and served within a reasonable time so we will certainly visit again.

Our rooms were of a good size, clean and comfortable. En suites were roomy. The bar/restaurant had a good menu and the staff were helpful and welcoming. I requested a 'special' where I said exactly what I wanted for a salad but which was nothing like what was on offer; the chef could not have been more willing and made a fine dish for me. The gardens were well kept and attractive with lots of tables at which to enjoy a summer evening. The only reservation is that there isn't a real lounge for residents.

Visited here on a lovely sunny Saturday lunchtime. The pub was very quiet. Having placed our order (4 people) we were brought our starters fairly promptly. Once finished the dishes were taken in two stages. There then followed a wait of approximately 20-25 minutes after which time we went to ask if they had forgotten our main courses. When they were brought out the Beef Stroganoff was basically a beef stew with very little flavouring more like gravy. Very disappointing experience as both parties had travelled long distances to meet at what looked like a nice & recommended pub in the country.

We only had drinks but noticed quite a few people checking in for rooms. There was a good selection of local beers, drinks were quite expensive but this seems to be a feature of this area. Nice tables outside and the restaurant was very smart.

We visited for lunch as a family during the week. The landlord and staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. Kids meals were generous and went down very well. We forgot one of the kid's cardigans and they posted it back for us as we don't live locally which I thought was very generous. Thanks again!

I visited the Duke with a group of about 30 people, some of them coeliacs requiring gluten-free food. It was pre-planned and they were well aware of the numbers involved. We had hoped to start at 7.30pm but it was almost 8 before the first course arrived and we all got the impression that there were insufficient waiting staff on duty. First course eaten and plates cleared, we then waited over half an hour for the main course to arrive to the extent that several members were considering leaving. Main course arrived but there was no apology for the waiting time. A number of the group decided not to have the dessert and no-one waited to have coffee. Generally speaking the food was OK but the service was dire. We, as a group will not be returning.

I stayed here for 3 nights whilst in business in Oxford. I had looked for a more central hotel but couldn't find one for less than £400 for 3 nights at that time!! I'm glad I didn't find a more central one as this place was great. Sure the rooms are a little dated but clean and with free wifi that actually works. I ate in their restaurant every night and the food was good quality and proper portions. The owner and bar staff were all friendly and always has time for a chat and were willing to help with any requests. On the whole a nice and friendly place serving decent food even if a little outside of the city.

My family and I had one f the best times at this place, we will definitely be coming back. The food was good and the drinks were good but the service and attention from the Manager/Landlord was fantastic. He joked with my little boy and the other half and the young, smiley waitress that accompanied him was exceptional. If you want good service, go here!

We called ahead to the pub as we needed a camper stopover close Brize Norton. The landlord Dave was incredibly helpful and we were able to make use of the ample flat car park at the back of the pub for the night we needed. The facilities in the pub are first class and service was excellent - Dave went above and beyond to make our stay an absolute pleasure. Staff and locals were all friendly and welcoming to us. We were lucky it was ‘vinyls night’ so were treated to some great music while we were having drinks in the bar. Highly recommended, I’m sure we will be back soon

First timer and the experience was five stars all the way. I had the meaty breakfast which was brilliant and fresh and loads to eat. My daughter had the avocado on toast with a beautiful poached egg. Again it was excellent. We loved the decor and vibe of the cafe too. Service was superb and it really is dog friendly too. You must visit.

Visited with a friend for a bit of a business meeting/dinner followed by an overnight stay. It was everything we could have asked for and Hattie, who looked after us on arrival and through the afternoon and evening, was a superb host. Dinner (and breakfast) was great - good choice on the menu and very tasty. Rooms were smallish but perfectly fine, beds comfortable and my room had a spacious bathroom. Overall, a great place for a night out or an overnight stay.
