Went on a recommendation from the family and in no way did it disappoint. The food was very good, enjoyed by all four of us, and the service staff were a delight. Possibly one of the best Hook Norton Brewery dining pubs.

The Fox Inn, located in the heart of Chipping Norton, offers convenient access and a comfortable stay. While the bar area lacks character, the rooms are functional and clean, with comfortable beds and adequate bathrooms. The shower could use some improvement, as it tends to leak. The included breakfast, though tasty, was a bit minimal, and some extras required an additional cost. The bar manager's enthusiasm stood out, but overall service felt a bit inconsistent. A pleasant enough stay, but nothing special.

Booked a table online for 4 adults the Monday for Burger Night (Tuesday night). Upon arrival, staff were very attentive and showed us to the table where they were happy for us to wait for the rest of our party. Menus were clear to follow and the select of burgers available was great, there was something for everyone. Food was absolutely delicious, great value for money and I'd possibly go so far as to say the portions were a little bit too big - no room for desserts. One of our party had the burger from the specials board which looked incredible. Staff were lovely and all to happy to help. They were quick to clear away dirty dishes but, we never felt there was any pressure for us to grab the bill and leave the table - something which other establishments seem to push for. The only downsides were the additional charges for the sides (otherwise it would just be a burger on a plate) and, the lack of drinks menus in the dining area. With not being local, we were not sure what drinks were on tap etc and with sitting in the dining area, we were unable to see the bar. A simple list of what drinks are on tap and what soft drinks were available would suffice.

Stayed here the other weekend, on one of the coldest days of the year. No heating in the room and TV not working. Staff came to try and sort the radiator, then brought in a heater from the bar. Telly wasn't going to work that weekend. No milk for the tea, then saw a little notice saying you had to ask for it from the bar. Staff were helpful and friendly though and the breakfast was very good.

My partner and I came for a very spontaneous trip to the Cotswolds and were looking for somewhere to eat. Luckily, when I searched for “dinner” near me on google maps, The Fox was the first place to pop up! We tried our last minute luck and popped in to see if they had a table for two. Although they were busy, and clearly catering for various Christmas Parties, they accommodated us and put us in a cozy corner. Despite this, the staff continuously checked up on us, and the service was extremely fast. We had the beer batterer fish and chips, which comes with tartar sauce, mushy peas (of course) and curry sauce. This is the first place that I have actually enjoyed the curry sauce that comes with fish & chips! It was so, so good. I recommend highly if you are in the mood for fish! The staff were all so friendly and helpful! If you are around in Chipping Norton, make sure to visit.

Edited, years later. People seem to rave about The Fox, perhaps that points out that Chippy being a relatively small town doesn't have that many pubs, so competition isn't huge. I'll leave my review at 4 stars - and it's just the pub and food I'm reviewing, I live in the town, so I've never stayed there. We've had friends visit who have and they liked it. If I could score it to 3 and half stars, I would. It's a decent pub, but it's not going to knock your socks off in terms of food quality, service or decor. As with my old review, I suspect they ruined it with the modern decor - it really is a bit on the cheap side. Is it the best pub in Chippy? Loaded question because people have different expectations. It's comfy, a bit trendy, dog friendly and overall, always a likeable experience, but you probably won't be raving about it after. We have a handful of pubs here, thankfully, all managed to make it through the toughest times, yet still face tough times. It's well worth a visit - just make sure you book if you want food and do enquire whether you will be seated in the restaurant or the bar, as it gets VERY busy - I recommend the restaurant for a larger gathering and a full on meal, you many need to book weeks in advance at busier times. My old review below. ================== I'd go along with Ben Greshon in terms of the inside being sadly 'modernised' almost beyond redemption. However, it's a lovely pub - dog friendly. Great staff, welcoming. Back on the modernisation, the odd thing is, some of the decor harks back to old times in a cheesy way. It's almost like a modern build trying to be an old pub, even though it actually is an old pub.

This was a Christmas meet up with friends. We stayed overnight in a very comfortable room and enjoyed an excellent breakfast. The purpose of the visit was a dinner with friends and The Fox delivered a first class Christmas Dinner from their seasonal menu. It was clear that other diners were also enjoying their own selections, often from the specials board. This is a proper pub in the middle of town (owned by Hook Norton), which is well run by an engaging and most helpful team.

We were in Chipping Norton with some friends and they suggested The Fox to eat. We were all together so went along with it. The atmosphere was really lovely and the staff are very welcoming and welcoming. The menu quite restricted, not much to choose from. The food was pub grub but at a cost that should have delivered quite a bit more than it did, I don't mean the portions, more about the way it was cooked. Food quality one step above Weatherspoon's but price wise nearly three times. Stuff was over cooked and a bit tough and dry, this was not just my food. When in a group not easy to say anything but afterwards a couple of people spoke out in the group. It was a shame as the food left me disappointed, fortunately the company and service was really great.

I called in prior to 6pm and had a pint which was good, I then went for a wander around the village and returned at 6 30pm. Ordered my drink at the table and food and waited 20 minutes. I went up to the bar to find out where my drinks were and my food only to be told there were no pies left. Why put pies on as a special and then run out of them. The place was quiet and asked where my drinks were. Got a blank look. Typical young girl wokes, big lips eyelashes white teeth more interested in their phones then serving . Left and found my food elsewhere. First and last time going there. No leaders or guidance .

Special shout out to Aidan who spent some time letting us know about the local area and things to see and do. Excellent stay, lovely staff and we will definitely be back :) And we loved the extra welcome from the local gentleman with the tartan tie ! Many thanks, Ross & Rebecca, Glasgow

We stayed here for a few days as a treat for hubs birthday and could not have been happier with our stay. We had a warm welcome and after a drink was shown to our room. It was beautiful, spacious and very clean and fresh. The facilities were brilliant and the extras just added to the treat. The staff are so friendly and cannot do enough to make your stay a good one. We ate here too and both breakfast and evening meals were to a very high standard, delicious and beautifully served. I honestly cannot fault any aspect of our stay here, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We had no issues with parking either. We would happily stay again and I am more than happy to recommend. Thank you so much, you helped to make our break really enjoyable and very comfortable.😊

This was a nice looking hotel in a lovely area. It is just scraping the 4 stars I have decided to rate it though because there were several points that were disappointing but none of them huge deals to me. However, one of the points should really have been a bigger deal to The Vines because, after booking, my details were clearly compromised somewhere along the line. I had booked via a third party site so it may have been their fault. I received SEVERAL emails and then WhatsApp messages from what was clearly a scam trying to get me to confirm my booking and payment via strange links. I called The Vines directly to confirm the booking and explain that I had received these communications but the lady who answered my call had no interest in the GDPR breach and simply confirmed my booking. To be honest, I couldn't be bothered to school her as to how that could have serious implications for the business. I had managed to get the messages to stop before I called. When we arrived at around 19:30 for our stay, we were informed that no food was being served because they were undergoing renovations. It wasn't the fault of the polite, young man who told us but we felt this should have been communicated prior to our arrival. Fortunately, we weren't that hungry and we did have snacks in our bag. Unfortunately, there wasn't a refrigerator in the room to keep them in despite the room description saying there was. There were many other things missing too- sugar for the tea making facilities, hand towels, TV remote for example. Also, when I booked it said I could bring my dog and this appeared to be at no extra cost. After I had paid for the booking I received a message telling me I had to pay more money on arrival to bring my dog. I wasn't asked to pay this when I got there thankfully. We were placed in an upstairs room and would've preferred a downstairs one since we had our dog with us but there was a decent green area to allow him to eliminate and a footpath opposite the hotel where we could give him a brief leg stretch before we set off the next day. The room was clean and spacious enough too, and the breakfast area was very nice, and our cooked breakfast was also good, and we appreciated it being included in the price. The location was great for us and made it easy to explore pretty Cotswolds villages and towns within a short drive as well as Jeremy Clarkson's pub. There's a lovely big garden centre for browsing in nearby in Burford but, if you're bringing your dog like us, it's not dog friendly sadly. I may consider staying at The Vines again in future, because I'm sure we'll revisit the area but it would depend on the prices.

Utterly charming village pub completely let down by the hostile attitude of the owner. We pulled up intending to have a beer and some lunch and visit churchills grave 3 mins over the road and were subjected to a screaming session from the owner who had just pulled up and was displeased about the amount of cars in the car park. Turns out the primary school opposite had an early finish and parents had used her car park for collection. We had to enter the pub to register our numberplate anyway, and even after telling her we would be returning for lunch after walking over to the grave site (c. 10 mins total when we later went) she continued screaming that she didnt care and we had to move our car, and followed us into the pub, continuing to shout infront of lunchtime customers, even continuing after her barman explained about the early school leaving. We paid for a beer as the car park was then too full of people to move the car easily, but decided we weren't spending lunch there. Car park was empty before half a pint was finished so we moved to the opposite side of the road and visited the grave site as planned. For a countryside 'community pub', that reception was unacceptable. I understand issues with parking around school time but that is part of being a community, and easily manageable without being aggressive to customers. Rural pub footfall is based on ramblers and walkers visiting and being so close to a national landmark must be a huge benefit to their footfall so I am unsure why, if there was such an issue on a private site, signage or other means couldn't have been used, or communication to the school/parents regarding her wishes

Delightful afternoon tea. Great service and amazing sandwiches, scones and cake. Just what we wanted from an Easter special feast
