The Fox Hotel in West Oxfordshire

Sunday roast and outstanding onion soup and red wine at the Fox capped off what had been a perfect weekend in the Cotswolds for us. The staff were lovely, the Chateauneuf du Pape delicious and the food top notch. We’ll be back!

Visited the fox with my family this evening on a quiet Sunday night. Lovely atmosphere, waiting staff were very attentive and the food didn’t take too long to arrive. All of our meals were delicious - a really good choice during our stay in Chipping Norton! Highly recommend.

Just had dinner at The Fox whilst visiting the Cotswolds. Absolutely beautiful food reasonably priced, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.

Stayed here the other weekend, on one of the coldest days of the year. No heating in the room and TV not working. Staff came to try and sort the radiator, then brought in a heater from the bar. Telly wasn't going to work that weekend. No milk for the tea, then saw a little notice saying you had to ask for it from the bar. Staff were helpful and friendly though and the breakfast was very good.

Had a lovely evening with my family in this pub tonight… food was amazing, waiting staff were attentive and understanding and all in all and enjoyable evening!

Very romantic getaway for a night or two. Rooms are extremely cosy! Friendly staff - perhaps too friendly 😄 If you go to the loo and leave your man at the table, a nice girl called Sophie will leave her post at the bar to sit with him while you're gone! Amazing 🙂😊

Finally a few days away with my wife after a hectic December running pubs and restaurants. Had an amazing time! The location, the service and food all matched each other, it was so fantastic! From the check-in by Lauren (room 7), to the final breakfast and check-out, just great. We will be booking again. Thank you Team The Fox! ❤️

Food was fantastic and staff were very kind and polite, the place is a warm Cotswolds welcome and not expensive either perfect if you visit chipping Norton area!

We reserved the parlour to use as a meeting room for three days and experienced absolutely wonderful attentive friendly service. Delicious food too. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place!

Booked for lunch on New Year's day. Warm greeting from bar staff and the landlord Ben as we arrived, and despite the venue being very busy already, we were immediately shown to our table without delay. The service was very pleasant, friendly, attentive and prompt, not only from Ben but also from our lovely waitress, Taryn. Menu was pleasingly diverse, main portions very generous. Not overly expensive either. A very nice place - we'll be back!

My partner and I came for a very spontaneous trip to the Cotswolds and were looking for somewhere to eat. Luckily, when I searched for “dinner” near me on google maps, The Fox was the first place to pop up! We tried our last minute luck and popped in to see if they had a table for two. Although they were busy, and clearly catering for various Christmas Parties, they accommodated us and put us in a cozy corner. Despite this, the staff continuously checked up on us, and the service was extremely fast. We had the beer batterer fish and chips, which comes with tartar sauce, mushy peas (of course) and curry sauce. This is the first place that I have actually enjoyed the curry sauce that comes with fish & chips! It was so, so good. I recommend highly if you are in the mood for fish! The staff were all so friendly and helpful! If you are around in Chipping Norton, make sure to visit.

Nowadays it is very difficult to find a restaurant that offers excellent quality food, ladies and gentlemen, I have already found one, a cozy atmosphere and excellent service by a friendly staff, you do not have to worry about parking your car, there is ample parking, I will return there soon, thank you all

Edited, years later. People seem to rave about The Fox, perhaps that points out that Chippy being a relatively small town doesn't have that many pubs, so competition isn't huge. I'll leave my review at 4 stars - and it's just the pub and food I'm reviewing, I live in the town, so I've never stayed there. We've had friends visit who have and they liked it. If I could score it to 3 and half stars, I would. It's a decent pub, but it's not going to knock your socks off in terms of food quality, service or decor. As with my old review, I suspect they ruined it with the modern decor - it really is a bit on the cheap side. Is it the best pub in Chippy? Loaded question because people have different expectations. It's comfy, a bit trendy, dog friendly and overall, always a likeable experience, but you probably won't be raving about it after. We have a handful of pubs here, thankfully, all managed to make it through the toughest times, yet still face tough times. It's well worth a visit - just make sure you book if you want food and do enquire whether you will be seated in the restaurant or the bar, as it gets VERY busy - I recommend the restaurant for a larger gathering and a full on meal, you many need to book weeks in advance at busier times. My old review below. ================== I'd go along with Ben Greshon in terms of the inside being sadly 'modernised' almost beyond redemption. However, it's a lovely pub - dog friendly. Great staff, welcoming. Back on the modernisation, the odd thing is, some of the decor harks back to old times in a cheesy way. It's almost like a modern build trying to be an old pub, even though it actually is an old pub.

This was a Christmas meet up with friends. We stayed overnight in a very comfortable room and enjoyed an excellent breakfast. The purpose of the visit was a dinner with friends and The Fox delivered a first class Christmas Dinner from their seasonal menu. It was clear that other diners were also enjoying their own selections, often from the specials board. This is a proper pub in the middle of town (owned by Hook Norton), which is well run by an engaging and most helpful team.

I had dinner with 5 other ladies.The food was lovely well cooked and presentation well nothing was too much for the staff .Had both dinner and breakfast.

Second time staying and 3rd time having dinner. Was as good as it always has been, staff friendly and food very good. We stayed this time and room was clean and comfortable with nice little touches on room, we had breakfast also which was good with lots of choice. We will definitely be back again.

Inside & out the pub is lovely with friendly staff. The food was okay, pub grub standard but found the price a little steep for what we had. We decided not to have food here on our second day & had a drink instead, which was lovely.

Absolutely outstanding. Me and my partner both had the duo roast dinners and they were beyond belief . Could not recommend more, the mojito cocktails are also very nice. Staff friendly. 5 out of 5 stars. Will definitely come back if ever visit the cotswolds again

I was with my wife, daughter and 1year old grandson. We had an excellent meal. Very good food and excellent service. Reasonably priced. Downed with well kept Hook Norton beer. Added attraction, it was dog friendly for 2 dogs. We most certainly will go again when in Chipping Norton. Roy

We were in Chipping Norton with some friends and they suggested The Fox to eat. We were all together so went along with it. The atmosphere was really lovely and the staff are very welcoming and welcoming. The menu quite restricted, not much to choose from. The food was pub grub but at a cost that should have delivered quite a bit more than it did, I don't mean the portions, more about the way it was cooked. Food quality one step above Weatherspoon's but price wise nearly three times. Stuff was over cooked and a bit tough and dry, this was not just my food. When in a group not easy to say anything but afterwards a couple of people spoke out in the group. It was a shame as the food left me disappointed, fortunately the company and service was really great.

We stayed here for 3 nights, the room itself was lovely and clean however we had a lot of problems with noise. Directly outside the room was the beer garden, next door was the kitchen and you could hear the people in the rooms above showering/walking around.

I dealt with Lauren who I found to be delightful....nothing too much trouble! Room was excellent, clean and smart. We had dinner and breakfast and both were lovely ...well cooked and tasty. Top place to stay and eat!

Fantastic pub (much bigger than it looks), really friendly staff and absolutely delicious food. Add some decent beer in and it’s honestly great!

Probably an off night.. Gonna try again soon.. Too bad, The menu looked decent.. others also share the location so that’s not necessarily the Bees Knees… See you again soon..

Had a nights stay at The Fox in Chipping Norton. Just happened to be Burger 🍔 Night . Excellent ! So was breakfast . Staff/ Manager, Ben, very helpful. Lovely bar with character and great atmosphere.

Food at The Fox was wonderful would certainly recommend, a wee bit of a delay but was worth it, good vegetarian options, the Sunday nut roast was the best I've tasted.

We stayed over the hotel part of the pub and also had dinner. The food and staff were really good, the accommodation was pretty average for the price.

I called in prior to 6pm and had a pint which was good, I then went for a wander around the village and returned at 6 30pm. Ordered my drink at the table and food and waited 20 minutes. I went up to the bar to find out where my drinks were and my food only to be told there were no pies left. Why put pies on as a special and then run out of them. The place was quiet and asked where my drinks were. Got a blank look. Typical young girl wokes,big lips eyelashes white teeth more interested in their phones then serving . Left and found my food elsewhere. First and last time going there. No leaders or guidance .

Had a good meal while staying for the weekend. Breakfast was very good. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Good selection of local beers too

A charming pub with nice rooms.. a very old building, so not big rooms. Fine though. Great staff, very friendly and helpful. The restaurant food was exceptional! A very nice stay.

Lovely family lunch. Service was slow due to volume of guests arriving for lunch. Sunday roasts and the other food items were beautifully presented and were delicious. Hook Norton real ales as well. Perfect. Thank you, will certainly visit again.

What a fabulous find, lovely pub with great food in the middle of a buzzy little town. Very generous portions, great staff and a good selection of drinks, with lots of free parking.

We were a large mixed aged, party dining on Friday night (1 to 80 years old) and we had a lovely evening. Ben and his team did an amazing job looking after us and we all thoroughly enjoyed the food and drink even the doggies got spoilt with lots of treats, thank you.

Decent English Pub Food. Most pubs have gone down the road of fancy menus, at least the Fox has stayed a little more traditional. Nice place, good food at a reasonable price.

We stopped here for a drink and an evening meal on our way back from visiting Lego Land with our grandchildren. The staff were very friendly and helpful finding us a spare table for our meal. The food was delicious. We will be visiting again!

Fabulous 1 night stay at The Fox. Lovely pub/ resturant in Chipping Norton,approximately 20 -25 minutes away from Broughton in the Water and all other villages in the Cotswolds area. Our stay was fabulous. All the staff were friendly,helpful and welcoming. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, great room and fabulous freshly cooked breakfast. We would highly recommend this as a place to stay to explore the Cotswolds. They have got everything just right here. Well done to the staff and owners. We will be back.

Excellent pub selling superb Hook Norton real ale.

My father and I enjoyed a Sunday Roast at The Fox and both staff and food were fantastic. The welcome was warm, our waitress was attentive and not overbearing… the roast was scrumptious and Pops enjoyed a pint of Hook Norton lager. Thank you. 🤩

Wonderful and well managed hotel in Chipping Norton. We had a lovely quaint room overlooking the main high street. Exceptionally good staff here - Luke welcomed us and quickly checked us in very efficiently and professionally. He explained everything and gave us some all the info we asked for. Very pleasant and efficient service and he even personally took us to our room to ensure we were settled in properly. The bar and restaurant serve very good food and wine and was priced very reasonably. We have a great breakfast the following morning which Lauren ensured was a very enjoyable experience and great way to start the day. She is a charming and caring member of The Fox who you can tell genuinely cares and looks after her guests. My wife and I had a very good stay here and really cannot fault any aspect of it. The staff here are extremely good and its worth staying here just for the care you receive from them.

Very pleasant atmosphere good food and service

Beautiful set in the heart of chipping Norton, the fox has well mannered staff, delicious drinks and comfortable surroundings. Toilets clean and not overcrowded by dozens of cubicals, air dryer. Seating consists of a restaurant, snug, meeting room and some bar seats. Thoroughly enjoyed my day at pride on the 1st of June as I was able to grab a break from the sun and relax with an ice cold cider. Staff were wonderful and I can't fault the pub itself. Can't comment on the food as I didn't have any but the smells coming from the kitchen were 👌🏻

Nice pub, good food, big carpark

In the centre of Chipping Norton, my favorite local. The food is amazing, the team are always really friendly and the prices very reasonable in comparison to some of the other pubs.

My wife and I stayed on a Sunday night, and had the most amazing room. very clean, comfy bed, great shower, and some nice little touched like the bottle of beer.. We had the Sunday roast, I had lamb and my wife had Vegetarian, and both were superb, and the breakfast next day was perfect as well. We found all the staff to be lovely, and would have no hesitation about staying again

Honestly, this is one of the best places I've stayed. From start to finish, the service, food , beers and location were excellent. Ben at the front of house was so friendly and welcoming, aswell as all of the staff and they made our stay so easy and lovely. Highly recommend this place. 10/10

If I could rate this lovely pub as 10-stars I would! Had dinner tonight - what a beautiful venue and the food, service, welcome, ambience - all absolutely first rate. Every single member of the team really is a top class professional. In an age when it sometimes seems as if few people in the hospitality industry actually care, this venue is a shining beacon of excellence.

Visited for an evening meal, we have stayed and ate here previously. Food was really lovely, again, we had starters and mains. Service was really good and the staff were very helpful when I mentioned an allergy I have.

I took my mum and daughter here today. As always great food and staff, roast lunch is the nicest in town. Will always come back here

Food was great. Bit on the high price side , but it's Chipping Norton so to be expected I guess , very dog friendly , staff very friendly but service a little slow for a not busy Tuesday lunchtime ....

The Fox is such a lovely traditional Coltwolds location. Manager Ben is friendly and never forgets a face and staff are always there to serve. Sunday lunch is absolutely beautiful. The sirloin beef melts in your mouth and the dogs love it too. Value for money, best to book as tables get booked quickly.

Usually pretty decent. This time, a bunch of people at a nearby table were very loud with constant profanity’s. They were at a Reserved table but move when asked, about 7 feet away. Thee is no need for this in a restaurant. The Waiter to us was excellent though.

Who would had thought this beautiful market town nestled in Oxfordshire would be hosting a local business networking event. Great fun venue, especially on DJ and pizza night. The Fox has quite a buzzy fun atmosphere and the pizzas were excellent!

Lunchtime Meal for four plus two dogs. Lovely large window table. Water offered for dogs. Food excellent. Special dietary request catered for. Only negative - quite a wait for food.

My partner and I had an excellent stay here for 2 nights! The room was lovely and cosy with a very comfy bed and great sized shower. The food was lovely and fresh and breakfast both mornings was fresh to order from the menu with plenty of vegetarian options. Staff were attentive and very knowledgeable of the local area. Special shout out to Aidan who spent some time letting us know about the local area and things to see and do. Excellent stay, lovely staff and we will definitely be back :) And we loved the extra welcome from the local gentleman with the tartan tie ! Many thanks, Ross & Rebecca, Glasgow

We stayed here for a few days as a treat for hubs birthday and could not have been happier with our stay. We had a warm welcome and after a drink was shown to our room. It was beautiful, spacious and very clean and fresh. The facilities were brilliant and the extras just added to the treat. The staff are so friendly and cannot do enough to make your stay a good one. We ate here too and both breakfast and evening meals were to a very high standard, delicious and beautifully served. I honestly cannot fault any aspect of our stay here, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We had no issues with parking either. We would happily stay again and I am more than happy to recommend. Thank you so much, you helped to make our break really enjoyable and very comfortable.😊

Excellent Sunday roast! Beef was tender and came with large Yorkshire pudding and veg cooked to perfection. Really friendly staff and excellent value for money

Long wait (3/4 hour) for cold inedible overcooked chips with our meals. They are billed as triple cooked chips but were so hard they must have been cooking all day. We were not charged for the one meal but whole experience disappointing. Service poor too. No one came to apologise for the delay - we had to chase up our meals. I’m sure there must be better places to eat in Chipping Norton.

Wow! What a wonderful place, stayed for 2 nights our room was lovely, comfortable and clean! We had an evening meal which was really nice! Breakfast was included both mornings and was lovely and hot, it included cereal, juices tea coffee etc.

From the minute we walked through the door we felt welcomed by the staff. We were shown to our table in a very nice area of the restaurant and the service was faultless throughout our whole visit. Superb quality food with generous portion sizes. Best gammon I have ever had. Would reccomend a visit if in the area.

We had dinner at The Fox recently and were really impressed. We had a risotto and fish and chips, then sticky toffee and a lemon meringue dish and all of it was fab. They had lots of gluten free options which is refreshing to see and the staff were really friendly. Great location in the centre with lots of parking nearby. Prices were reasonable for in the area and service was quick.

Connor and Ant are just amazing!! They went above and beyond and I are the warmest, kindest most welcoming hosts you can ask for. Just the loveliest humans!!

We ate here last night whilst staying in the area. After an hour we asked where our food was to be told the waiter forgot to put our order through, my partner was ‘hangry’ and ready for for leaving to the nearest takeaway but after seeing the tables around us eat the food looked really good and I wanted to stay and wait. Food arrived shortly after, we had the lamb meatballs specials and the burger and they were both brilliant, what a good choice it was to stay. I was a hotel and restaurant manager for 5 years in in my younger years and appreciate whilst not ideal, these things happen and it certainly hasn’t put me off returning. Our drinks were taken off the bill as an apology but we still left a tip as the staff and food were brilliant

The staff were pleasant and attentive to us when we went for dinner. My parter had the whitebait which was more like sardines than white bait and the fish and chips which was ok but bland. I had the burger which was nice and a couple of pints. Dinner was ok no frills pub food

Really lovely staff, dog friendly and delicious food. Would really recommend this cute little pub and it’s great location. We had the smashed burger and the chicken and mushroom risotto - both plates left very empty by the time we left. The kids menu is also fab and had loads of GF options for our little one!
