First time at The Angel, en route to The Forest of Dean. It was great all round. For a Monday lunchtime this quaint pub was buzzing. Whilst we were there they had to turn lots of people away as they were fully booked. There was a roaring log burner - always welcome! The food was delicious. A lovely selection and appetising specials also. The beetroot ravioli was delightful as was the chilli squid (which can easily be chewy!) but it was soft and flavoursome. And as for the special chocolate fondant - stunning! Will definitely be back!

Visited with family for lunch, had the burgers and they were really good. The children's burger was a bit plain but I understand that's how many kids like it but not mine and she ended up eating most of my burger while I had to eat hers. Visited this pub last Sunday as it had a sign outside that read “Beautiful Garden”! Popped in and yes garden at the rear is beautiful and great for a Sunday lunch setting. What I really liked initially was the pleasant greeting, the organisation of the operation was excellent and the Sunday Roast Beef was worth every penny. Best to book a table so as not to be disappointed having to wait, but the food and service is worth the wait. Well done guys.

I picked out the Angel in Burford as it is away from the High Street and also associated with a traditional brewer Hook Norton. My sister is a strict vegetarian and I eat Fish. There are descent choices on the starters menu, but we did not discover whether they would do a version of one of these as a main meal as my sister did not want the fuss. She was keen to have the backed camembert and as this is a whole camembert I understand why this is to share. I was pleasantly surprised that it was not as heavy as I thought it might be and my sister enjoyed it. I was happy to be able to select the hake on the main menu, which was beautifully cooked with crisp skin and the fish delicately flavoured and had there been a bone it would have flacked off this. Mys sister had the pasta and enjoyed the filled pasta with pine kernels and slightly unusual to me feta cheese. The beer was good my sister enjoyed he americano. The helpings were a good size and we were allowed to sit and eat in comfort without feeling any pressure to leave. The serving staff were polite and attentive without being overbearing. It was an enjoyable experience. There was a specials board and the experience would have been enhanced for my sister had there been a vegetarian or vegan dish on this menu. I was pleased with my fish dish, but in addition to some of the conventional Sunday roasts there was skate as the fish dish, which based on my experience would I am sure have also been excellent. It is a dog friendly establishment and we were sat next to the bar, there is other seating so for those nervous with dogs then it may make sense to look at table away from the bar or path to the garden. The dogs that came in were very friendly and apart from brushing legs not a nuisance. Were we to meet up in Burford again I think we would choose to stop there again. I do not believe the pub has a carpark, but it is an ancient building on a road providing a scenic escape from Buford towards Oxford.

The initial welcome was very luke warm and we were then shown to our table which was right in a corner of a back room where the kitchen door was situated which was not a pleasant experience and then waited 45mins for food to arrive of which 2 main courses were sent back due to overcooked fish. These two meals were deducted from the bill but were not in any way worth the price being charged. Overall a very disappointing experience for a first visit which unfortunately will not be repeated.

I’m sad to give it a 3 star but being woken up both mornings (7am and 6am respectively) by people unloading huge gas canisters and then spending an hour emptying glass bins, general waste etc right outside our window which is single glazed ruined the stay. We’re on holiday relaxing… it was frustrating to say the least. The room was in need of some serious love, door sticking in bathroom, handle fell off the drawers, blind was broken, scuffs everywhere. It just felt a bit neglected. The chap who welcomed us was lovely and the two ladies each morning were so friendly. The breakfast included was nice and fresh with good produce used and nothing was a hassle for the ladies to sort. The location is literally just off the high street with very local free parking. I would return for a drink or food if I were local but not to stay.

Such a disappointing meal. I had the sirloin steak which was supposed to come with tomatoes (assumed cherry tomatoes on the vine). When I asked for my tomatoes they apologised and returned with four halves of beef tomatoes which were cold and looked like they’d been leftover from breakfast! The chips were ok, but other than that there was just a pile of rocket on the plate. For £28 I expected better. My partner had the roast beef (£20), and the Yorkshire pudding was cold and stale, and the accompanying vegetables consisted of a pile of cabbage. As for the staff; some were pretty surly, and the waitress looked like I was inconveniencing her by asking for the bill. To add insult to injury they’d already added a 12.5% service charge to the bill, so I asked if they could change it to 10% (which was still very generous, considering). Apparently that was not possible, it was 12.5% or zero, so zero it was. Not a great experience, we won’t be rushing back!

Really impressed with the Angel! I'd booked lunch for 3 of us following a big walk around the area. Food was delicious, great value for money - especially the special starters of asparagus and scallops. The garden is absolutely beautiful and we really enjoyed our meal out there. Only small bit of feedback was that as we sat in the garden, we weren't really sure if it was table service or not. We went to the bar to order which was fine, but then the waitress did come over to offer desserts. There weren't any menus though, we you had to go into the bar to see the menu... which made her coming over to the take order seem a bit odd. Didn't bother us at all - still hugely enjoyed our lunch and will definitely come back again! :)

Food was good quality and varied choice but £9 for dessert seemed a bit steep. Full English breakfast was good but only one mushroom and one slice of tomato was a a little on the mean side. Sourdough toast too which is always hard enough to break your teeth but this seems to be everywhere. Our room was clean and spacious. The mattresses could do with replacing as very soft and possibly worn out. Overall a lovely pub to stay in at Burford and staff are great.

We have been here several times and enjoyed it but the food and service has dropped. The portions were very small, service inattentive and price high. I had the veggie roast. I just got 2 small halves of potato. 1 small slice of nut roast and a drizzle of gravy. The only veg was cabbage (red and green) and this was about 1/2 plate the other 1/2 was an enormous batter pudding which was very crisp. I had a mains, 1 small drink and a cup of hot water and it cost almost £30 with service charge. My fellow diners had a similar experience. Think we may try elsewhere.

A really enjoyable meal on our first night in the Cotswolds, in the restaurant most recommended by my mate’s uncle (he stays locally). This award-winning gastro pub, situated just off The Hill in the heart of Burford (Witney Street to be exact), very much mirrored the rustic, traditional feel offered in the other local pubs. We managed to get the only table left, right next to the bar, and to be honest it was a cracking location. We managed to have good banter with the lad behind the bar, as well as the woman that spoke to us later in the night - both were very welcoming and friendly! Top level hospitality all round. I was craving a Burger and to my delight, it was on the menu. I don’t believe the photo quite does it justice but I can assure you, at 9pm at night it didn’t take long in disappearing from that plate. Cooked to perfection, it was a thick cut of meat and nothing overly fancy - just a really good Burger (30-day aged Beef by the way). The Chips were crunchy and devoured (a tiny bit more in portion size would have been nice, but I’m being picky). The selection of Ales on offer added to the impressiveness of this place. Overall, for the meal and three drinks (including a tip), it was £40. Money well spent for a memorable experience. Yet again, another five star establishment produced by the Cotswolds area.

Location was good, the bar staff were lovely and had excellent service. We had cheesy garlic flatbread to start which was delicious. The main couldn’t be more disappointing! I had fish and chips - the chips were still frozen and the fish batter was soggy. My partner had a burger and it was RAW! It had such good reviews so we were very disappointed but definitely wouldn’t go back or recommend. Only reason it’s 2 stars and not 0 or 1 is because the bar staff were so welcoming.

I was with my wife, daughter and 1year old grandson. We had an excellent meal. Very good food and excellent service. Reasonably priced. Downed with well kept Hook Norton beer. Added attraction, it was dog friendly for 2 dogs. We most certainly will go again when in Chipping Norton. Roy

We have just returned from a one night break at The Three Horseshoes. We made a late booking and only one room available -Saddlers - which was a lovely, comfortable room and had everything we needed, and well decorated. En-suite was nice with a good shower. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t brilliant, so we only spent a brief time sat out in the garden, but has a lovely courtyard area and grassed lawn area, overlooking fields at the back with plenty of seating; would have liked to have been able to spend more time relaxing there. We had an evening meal near the fire (in June!) and we both loved all 3 courses; thoroughly enjoyable. Breakfast was also lovely with plenty of choice and set us up well for the day. The location is beautiful, and there seemed to be several good walks to go on had we been luckier with the weather. The pub has been updated very nicely and suits our taste of the modern clean, fresh and comfortable look. The atmosphere was nice and all the staff were pleasant and very helpful. We’ll definitely return and hope for less rain so that we can enjoy the sunshine in the beautiful garden!
