It's always a pleasure to eat at The Angel, where the food is excellent. Our party had fish and chips and the lamb special: both tasty. A table by the fire was a bonus on a chilly day.

Perfect. No other word for it. Perfect. Great welcome, atmospheric room, sat just by the fire, as requested. Friendly and very professional service. Excellent food. And coffee. Just perfect

I should say that we ate here on a very cold and snowy evening at the beginning of January. So, atmosphere was always going to be challenging. But, we were sat in the dining area behind the bar and it did feel a little tucked out of the way. Service was a bit slow and atmosphere non existent. But, the food is good and good value. So, I would still recommend you look this place up if you are visiting.

From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave you feel very welcome and all the staff have a smile which is so warming on a most cold wet evening the beautiful log burner going is so lovely too everyone makes you feel very special the food is so very good and so flavourful too thank you for another lovely evening! Popped in for a pint at 6 on a Sunday evening Have stayed here in the past and had a great experience- sadly not this evening- Entered the bar & after me making contact with the server behind the bar was told after asking if I could get a pint - sorry tables all booked was the reply No drinks without food- sorry ! No bar stools to sit by the bar for a cosy pint of ale I asked - No ! After speaking to locals I was told that most of them refrain from visiting the Angel due to this policy The website gives an impression of welcoming locals but obviously it’s not the case What is it with Burford - the two pubs opposite each other on the high street shut at 6 ! So I went to the Burford House - no problem sir ! Take a seat & I was promptly served a lovely pint of beer Take note Angel !

We came for lunch to the Angel and had an excellent meal. It has a cosy feel with a wood burning stove in the fireplace. Staff were friendly and helpful. Our food was well-executed and very tasty.

We popped in on the way home to Oxford from Cheltenham and found the pub available for a table under the search 'cosy pub near Burford' It didn't disappoint. We had a lovely welcome, table for two in the bar area and the fire was lit so it was very cosy. A nice warm pub considering it was below freezing outside. There were a number of dishes on the specials board and I went for the calves liver while my husband had the pie. The food was carefully prepared, exceeded expectations and very delicious. There were a good selection of drinks and I enjoyed a glass of Marlborough wine while my teetotal husband had a diet coke. The atmosphere was nice cos there were candles, the fire and not too noisy. A perfect stop off for dinner on our journey home. Would definitely recommend. NB I'm gluten free and there was a good selection of choices.

5* for the food, friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, 1* for accommodation - heating turned off in room although below zero outside (we kept door of bathroom open to get heat from the heated towel rail), no hot water for bath or shower at 8 am, pillows hard and uncomfortable, and furniture in room should be described as 'ex-junk shop', not 'rustic'.

The Angel gets better and better. Great food, good value and superb friendly service. Feels like a home from home.

We had dinner here on 2nd January as part of our Minimoon, although we stayed elsewhere our hotel had recommended here and we were not disappointed. Relaxed dinner with absolutely delicious food and amazing service… when we return to Burford for anniversaries we will of course return to The Angel for more scrumptious food…

This is a lovely old pub with a warm cozy atmosphere. The food is delicious when it arrives. A few more staff at such a busy time of year would make the experience even better as service was slow

My Mum and i visited the pub together for dinner and it was wonderful. From the moment we walked in we had a lovely warm welcome by the young girl behind the bar, even the dog was made a fuss of! We had a lovely table by the bar. Food was delicious and service was fantastic. This will be our go to pub whenever in Burford.

What a lovely place, recommend by a family member, I took him with me today and it was just as good as he said. Staff really welcoming food delicious, beautiful cooked and presented, would definitely go back when in the area.

Grandparents ,Parents and teenagers went here Sun 29th for lunch,it was a cold foggy day outside and barely warm inside ,log fire just alight .Two members of party had scampi said it was nice ,teenager had a burger ,cleared his plate ,Two roast beef’s ,One roast lamb ,meat not very tender ,one dish of mixed vegetables (cereal sized) cabbage ,kale ,carrots ,peas and green beans basicallly for 3 people ,my husband and my meal were not very hot ,large platefuls tho’ and pleasant staff.Whilst the portions were large

Always a favourite, cosy and relaxed with fantastic service and food. Nothing is too much trouble but equally the team are t over-baring. Roaring fire and a decent glass of wine to go with a belly busting but beautifully cooked roast dinner.

We stayed at the Angel for one night. The room was a lovely size, very clean and had a beautiful bathroom. The evening meal and breakfast were both exceptional with high quality ingredients. Food was flavoursome and hot. Service was excellent from Scott and Jackie. Both were polite, helpful and friendly. 100% recommended. A charming place in the heart of Burford with a lovely atmosphere. .

We had the most amazing fish and crunchy chunky chips. Sweet mushy peas and tartare sauce. Very generous piece of moist fish.

The angel at burford is unbelievable it’s the best pub. It has really classy rooms and the food is unbelievable doesn’t take to long either very good service as well.

we went in here for a drink, and planned to book for dinner. I must say it was not very welcoming at all. All tables are for eating, with a smallish bar. At 3.30 on a Thursday, we hoped the staff might be happy to see us but he wasn't. It was a struggle to get a smile. In any event, the real al wasnt good. The Oak next door or the Cotswold has the real ale. For food, maybe it is good - but we didnt bother going back. Staff make such a difference - good and bad...

Lovely pub on a quiet road just off the high street. Nice atmosphere when we arrived and welcoming staff. Good menu and very tasty food. So tasty we went for sweet which we don’t normally do. Overall very enjoyable.

Me and my wife, stumbled across this little pub on a recent visit to Burford. After a long day exploring, we were after a place for hearty home cooking and a nice environment, and this gave us exactly that. We were greeted by a lovely waitress with the fire blazing it was a lovely welcome. We both had a nice glass of red and I had the pie to eat which was beautiful. My wife had the crab and then the sticky chicken. All the food was excellent. We look forward to returning.

My wife and I went to the Angel for two nights as part of a weekend away and I haven’t been so impressed by a restaurant in a very long time! From the impeccable service, friendly servers who were super welcoming and more than happy to help however they could, to delicious food that is very reasonably priced for what it is. We had the venison lasagna and the pie of the day and both were so tasty we ending up getting the exact same on our return trip - not a single dish had any issues and everything was perfect. If you are in the area make sure you stop here as it’s an amazing setting, brilliant staff and food without fault - if I could give more than five stars I would!!!

Two of us had the Venison on the Specials Board which was delicious. The service was friendy and professional and there was a good ambience. We all agreed that we must go to lunch there again before too long.

My wife's pie which cost £21 had 4 small chunks of pork in and my main came with baby parsnips which you couldn't get a knife through. Food and drink expensive in my opinion and not the greatest. Automatic 12.5 per cent service charge. I wouldn't return.

The Angel is just brilliant. Each visit is a joy. The food is wonderful and the service cannot be beaten. The front of house team are so friendly and knowledgeable.

Great food and brilliant service from all the staff. My wife is a vegetarian celiac and MJ sorted her out with a really tasty veg roast which she loved. Great wine and beer will definitely be going back soon We took our dog and he was really welcomed with plenty of space

A busy night for mid week. Only 2 staff serving but they were very good. Perhaps needed a welcoming staff member to greet you at the door and take you to your table. We had to wait. Small tables crammed together, difficult to have private chat Main meal quite pricey

The Angel was very good value for a quality lunch with an old friend. We had not been before. The food choice was excellent, and service was good and friendly. We would recommend it highly.

Four of us had delicious meals - 2 x steak; 1 x sole and 1 x Thai chicken curry. Ample portions and very tasty. Puddings were good too. I had the Apple crumble. Coffee was tasty too - one Expresso and one decaf cafetière. Loved it! Nice ambiance in the dining area behind the bar.

First time at The Angel, en route to The Forest of Dean. It was great all round. For a Monday lunchtime this quaint pub was buzzing. Whilst we were there they had to turn lots of people away as they were fully booked. There was a roaring log burner - always welcome! The food was delicious. A lovely selection and appetising specials also. The beetroot ravioli was delightful as was the chilli squid (which can easily be chewy!) but it was soft and flavoursome. And as for the special chocolate fondant - stunning! Will definitely be back!

We had Sunday lunch, which was lovely, I had roast beef & my husband the roast pork, would have loved some extra gravy & a larger amount of horse raddish sauce.

My son and I had an excellent lunch - great place to meet halfway. Food, service and ambience all excellent. Will definitely return.

It was a wonderful place and the food was amazing, we had ribeye steak and it was perfectly done to our request. We also had malbec and that was a great accompaniment too. The service was perfect, the town amazing and the actual venue full of charm and character.

Visited with family for lunch, had the burgers and they were really good. The children's burger was a bit plain but I understand that's how many kids like it but not mine and she ended up eating most of my burger while I had to eat hers. Service was great and very welcoming. We sat in the garden which was lovely and can imagine it would a fantastic place for evening drinks.

Warning, this restaurant is garlic mad 😋. 1 oops, my blue rump arrived midium well however it was very nice and tasty (with lots of garlic)

Visited this pub last Sunday as it had a sign outside that read “Beautiful Garden”! Popped in and yes garden at the rear is beautiful and great for a Sunday lunch setting. What I really liked initially was the pleasant greeting, the organisation of the operation was excellent and the Sunday Roast Beef was worth every penny. Best to book a table so as not to be disappointed having to wait, but the food and service is worth the wait. Well done guys.

Fish and chips to die for! The fried sesame broccoli was unbelievable, a must try! The staff went above and beyond to cater to us, making a non-alcoholic batter which was really appreciated. Located in a cute little town with plenty of comfortable outdoor seating. A special thank you to Jessica for her lovely service and for being so wonderful.
