A very disappointing visit. I had booked afternoon tea as a treat for my daughter. When booking I asked if they could provide a gluten free tea as my daughter has coeliac disease. I was assured that it was no problem. On arrival we were initially told that they had no gluten free bread, scones or cake. The waitress was very apologetic and did eventually find chocolate brownie which turned out to be gluten free, but not exactly the treat I’d planned. I was very surprised as many places, tea rooms included, can cope with a gluten free afternoon tea. It is not an unusual request and their menu does say to inform staff of any dietary requirements. I feel this is a sad reflection on an establishment that normally provides excellent food.

Walked in and asked for a table for two and two dogs on at lunchtime on 26 March 2024. We were offered a table in the busy part of the cafe with little space for the dogs. Thinking of their customers and given the rear part was empty, I asked if dogs were allowed in the rear part, to be greeted by a very gruff non-courteous response “Well it’s just I’m on my own”. At this point we left responding “We will leave you in peace”. All very disappointing as we have visited numerous times before.

The service was good, given there was only 2 servers. The food quality is very average. Was hoping for more, given how it pitches itself and were it is. The prices are top heavy for sure. Around £10 more expensive for the same food and drink at lots of other places. We would not return here.

Famous for it's cream teas and cakes Huffkins is well known in the Cotswolds and even has a restaurant in John Lewis in Cheltenham! The picture is of a Cotswold cream tea. Which is, by their standards a modest version of their cream tea featuring a sandwich of your choice, scones and cream and jam and a pot of tea. All at a reasonable price. Their celebration afternoon tea is impressive and if you fancy it, it's probably worth booking. I'd suggest not eating for the whole day before you go because it's enormous! This restaurant in Burford is perfectly fine, but like most of the shops in Burford, you can't help but think they are more geared towards tourists than locals. It's perfectly pleasant, but lacks a bit of soul.

Tea arrived in a few minutes followed quickly by the breakfast Glad to see crispy bacon as requested but given the excellent breakfast disappointment that the poached eggs were cool This might be down to the extra time taken for the bacon?? We visited for lunch and after a short wait were seated, at a table not big enough and an extra chair put on the end (there were bigger tables available) which we didn't mind as previous experiences have been great so being squished is worth the decent food. We all ordered the daily special soup - only to be told upon ordering that there isn't any. If that is the case, take it off the specials board and remove the card from all the tables advertising it. Or, the server should have informed us of this when we were seated. I was unable to eat anything else due to being in a crohns flare and specifically went there so I could have the soup - if we had been informed when we arrived we could have gone elsewhere. As it was, by this point we did not have time due to commitments so I had to go without whilst the rest of our party ate. My partners salad was missing half the ingredients and a tiny portion. My father in laws Victoria sponge was missing a large chunk out of the bottom of it. When I took my daughter to the toilet - all three of which were filthy - there was a very large Stanley knife on the floor in the baby changing toilet with the blade exposed. We bought this to the attention of a waitress who literally laughed! I have attached a photo for your reference. Really poor experience and service that has left a bad taste in my mouth and we won't be visiting again

Had breakfast here on a Saturday morning. Greeted well and ordered at the counter as requested. We expected to pay more than other places, that's fine, it wasn't a surprise. However, the quality of food was appalling. Sausage and hash brown was like something from a back street burger van. Very greasy bacon and over cooked poached egg. Tea cup had lipstick on it, which isn't the end of the world, these things happen. Food took quite a while to arrive which isn't a huge issue, but when linked with the shockingly poor quality food, and dirty cup, this place was really really poor. I don't doubt other reviews about this place, but I will never eat at this place again.

I ‘popped’ in to Huffkins takeaway to get a few hot drinks whilst walking around Burford with some friends and unfortunately had a very bad experience. This was due to a very inexperienced member of staff who had been left unsupervised over lunchtime service. Not only did the drinks take approximately 10 minutes to make, but they did not even remotely resemble coffee, more like luke warm milky water. I was in there for 20 mins in total, with one other customer ahead of me, who also had the same experience. Do not waste your time or money - there are plenty of other really wonderful coffee shops in Burford that are far better.

Went for breakfast with my wife 12 Nov 10am. Full English breakfast: £13 but not worth it… 1 poached egg runny and one not. (Both tiny) Cheap hash browns. Basic sausage, would have expected butchers sausage or something meatier. Beans ok. Bacon very fatty and not too enjoyable. Ketchup quite runny and not tasty. Poached eggs and avocado: £12, again 1 egg runny and 1 hard. Avacado way too cold which made the eggs cold, needed to be sat out from the fridge for a bit. (Plates are cold too so eat fast) Flat white coffees: their coffee is very bitter and tastes similar to Turkish coffee. All in all £35 which is ok for quality but this fell well below that level. I think the many breakfast offerings at the Burford hotels would be a better bet. Maybe huffkin’s focus is on the cakes and pastries? On the positive side, the best thing was the lovely welcome from the guy at the entrance and the chairs were comfy.

I have known Huffkins for as long as I d lived here, I think my first ever afternoon tea was here. So when I need to organise an afternoon tea for a load of ladies to celebrate our friends 50th, I naturally chose Huffkins. Firstly, customer service was excellent, emailing to make the booking and hold the table. It was super simple, great communication and very accommodating.. huffkins has lost a few of its traditional touches like full table service, so you need to order either from an app or the desk, a sign of the tines, so didn't bother me, it hasn't, however, lost its impeccable service, very lovely ladies who couldn't do enough for us fussy bunch. The afternoon tea is stunning beautiful sandwiches of lots of different fillings, freshly baked, warm scones, and lots of different cakes. The traditional is a huge portion so (some, not me) ended up taking some of it home. My favourite thing was the never-ending teapot, drinks are refilled on a traditional. We weren't rushed along and so spent a lovely time catching up and eating cake. Highly recommend it was a special afternoon. Thank you .

Food was the reason it’s not five star, though we were the first customers of the day a lot of the food tasted stale and dry. We’ve been regular customers of Huffkins since the mid 90s and I regret to say the place is simply not the same. Gone are the days of when you were greeted by a friendly waitress or waiter. It’s very much pick what you want and try to remember it when you get to the till to order. The meal we had was hugely disappointing. We ordered 2 cheese and ham toasties a latte and tea. When the meal arrived it was a piece of toast (best described as Luke warm and limp). The filling was a cheese slice and a non descript piece of ham, some limp lettuce and crisps! It was my birthday and we left with a very disappointing taste in the mouth. All for the princely sum of £30. We remember Topsy fondly. Since she handed over the reins it’s not the same anymore.

We travelled from London for a family trip and had planned to visit to Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens. We were a bit late so wanted to have the lunch on the go. Saw the "Huffkins" bakery and ordered a mix of 6 sandwiches and toasties which costed under £30 (takeaway). The bakery was pretty much empty as there we only a few tables at the front occupied and all the tables at the back were empty! We were asked to wait 10 mins as our takeaway was being prepared. We sat down around an empty table and waited for the food to be ready. The server handed our food to us and we said hey these are toasted sandwiches what if we quickly eat as the are served hot and we were hungry too! We took a seat and one of us checked with the server, he said it's quiet so should be fine. He was kind enough to bring us some tissues as well. 2 mins after another staff came to us and said it's their policy that they charge "eat-in" price as we decided to eat from our pastry bags! We said its fair and happy to pay the difference, thinking it will be 20% of £30, max! This second server came with a bill of £27 and some change for a £30 food bill! I mean we are used with Eat-in/Takeaway price but come on! We decided to leave within 4-5 mins of sitting down and as originally planned had the sandwiches on the go. They were happy to show us a wave good bye! Hence my review, tasty food but be aware of their price policy!

Arrived for brunch with family, and were quickly seated. All agreed that the food was good, and there was a wide range of speciality teas on offer. One little criticism: we thought the huffkin with poached eggs and bacon could have had a more generous...

Overpriced food, pretty good service but £11 for a toastie is too much

I meet my sister at Huffkins in Burford when we can. It is always a treat. A lovely little tea shop selling great lunches and delicious cakes including gluten free. I left my purse there and the manager had kept it safely and then sent...

So disappointed to find our favourite place for a treat has lost all its charm. Empty seats on a Friday lunchtime made me wonder what was going on. Then I saw the menu- lots of favourite items gone and replaced by overpriced small portions which...

£18 for a “chicken sandwich” & a “coke” aka panda pop absolute rip off. I don’t mind paying for quality but my father paid £9 for a pasty…this was essentially a peters pasty heated up in the microwave! Don’t bother going

Well presented, nice staff and good ambiance but the food was lacking in all of our dishes unfortunately.

Lovely place on the high street. Cafe next door to the main restaurant. We went to the cafe and had chai lattes, croissant and sausage roll. Were told straight away that they were only doing take away but we were allowed to sit in the garden. Lovely location and venue. Dog friendly too which was great. Food was nice and they heated our food up too. Average to expensive in price. Menu next door looked nice, bit on the expensive side. Lovely high street to wander round too.

Whilst a little pricey, good food and exceptional service. Your Huffkins tea bags could have a bit more tea in them though

Tasty food, excellent service. Burford Rarebit was very good. It had a strong flavour, enough cheese and good bread

Lovely cream tea and cakes. I loved the iced hazelnut latte. Great outdoor space. The staff here were friendly and accommodating. We attended for a Hen Do and could move tables together outside.
