The Clanfield Tavern in West Oxfordshire

Just returned to an old haunt, now known as The Mason's Arms. LOVE it! Having moved out of the area we hadn't realised it had changed hands. And what hands it has fallen in to! Swirly carpet gone...hurrah! Stylishly rustic, woodburners blazing, candles lit, great atmosphere and even greater food, even on a quiet Tuesday afternoon. Oh the lamb's liver starter!....it was a dream! as was the venison sausage and the ham egg and chips. Warm, friendly welcome from Dan...perfect front of house. Who wouldn't want this on their doorstep. Maybe we should move back! Congratulations!

Fantastic, friendly, beautiful interiors and delicious menu. We had an impromptu pop in supper: ideal small plates: perfect liver and mash and a side of kale, fig/burrata and charcuterie platter, delicious and excellent value, house red is delightful blend, we sat on a table near a huge wood burner and leather winged arm chairs.. perfect ambiance’s!, highly recommended and thank you, we’ll certainly be back!

This pub is lovely inside and in a lovely setting. We had nice food, two soups were lovely, good fish and chips (on a par with other pubs locally, but a bit short of chips) & a burger (there’s no salad or toms in it) with chips and 4 Red Stripes (£6.80 each) between us for just over £80. 12 1/2 % service is added, don’t think it’s optional. We didn’t have dessert because there was only one option which I thought was a bit odd and we didn’t fancy a Sundae. We decided against ordering wine, it was too pricey for us for a midweek meal out at £40 plus for even a basic wine, so we stuck to beer and I avoided the Guinness at almost £8 a pint). Lovely staff, definitely trying hard to impress. We will return, but not as often as we would if prices were more in line with other lovely local Cotswold country pubs rather than London west-end prices.

A brilliant evening at the newly refurbished pub. The decor has transformed it to a cosy, welcoming establishment. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. It’s pricey, but so is everywhere in the area. The dessert idea didn’t work for me. One pudding only on the menu - sticky toffee served in a sundae glass. Way too much ice cream and you need to turn your spoon upside down to get to the best bit at the bottom and eat from the handle. Will definitely return though as it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening

CLOSED ! We had booked a table for Wednesday 28th Feb as we understood the pub was closed Mondays and Tuesdays. We were asked for confirmation two days before which we confirmed. We went today, and they were shut with no message on the door . Looks like all the bottles have been removed and disappointed as we had to try and find somewhere else to eat this evening.

First to arrive for Sunday lunch. Pleasant enough welcome, looks lovely from the outside…. Sticky tables, we were told it was because they had used antibac (if you know it leaves sticky tables then surely change it?!) Honey & mustard sausages- don’t bother. 5 cheap chipolatas, were advertised as £6 on the menu, but charged £7 on the bill. Roasts - beef advertised as rare, served medium to well. Veg was nice. Very expensive mistake, sadly won’t be returning.

Nice but .. Popped in for the first time ever early on Sunday evening. The locals were all friendly and the barman welcoming. It’s a nice looking pub - but let down by a lack of attention to detail. First thing was that my choice of beer had run out but hey ho, it happens. After that, we sat down in what turned out to be a rather dark and gloomy seat by the window - it was already dark outside but the exterior lights did provide some unintentional illumination through the window. And that was my point. The nice quiet area was almost devoid of any lighting. We counted 3 lamps without any lightbulbs in them and a lively open fire that no one had bothered to clean out and get fired up again. Ambience is all in the detail and this pub/restaurant could do much better towards creating a cosy, inviting watering hole with a tiny bit of effort.

What an amazing evening once again for our Christmas meal for the train team at CWP. The roast was delicious 😋 as was the service. First class meal and evening, would highly recommend.

Nice ambiance but rather expensive

We did have a nice meal, couldn’t really fault the food, very tasty. It is a nice location. What spoilt it was the drinking crowd that made up the outside clientele. It was difficult to enjoy a meal when all you can hear is aggressive laughter and swearing from nearby table. I realise we could have said something to the staff but really I don’t think it’s my job to police their customers - it didn’t take much to hear the sort of language being used, and I didn’t really fancy making a scene. Perhaps this is the market they are going for now, though there were families eating there and the food prices suggest something a bit more than a drinking pub. Anyway we ate up, didn’t bother with pudding and got out of there. Maybe just unlucky but if you go maybe check out inside for eating.

Amazing food, had the Cote de Bouef and what a steak that was!! cooked to perfection, lovely sides could probably feed more than two with the generous helping of chips and side salad. The team working were very attentive and always looking to see how they can help, very proactive but not intrusive. Highly recommended.

Asked for a pint of pedigree looked flat refused it and next customer asked for same but they said was off. The menu was not same as website the haddock and chips was mostly batter and overcooked as were the chips. We also had the sea bream which was rather dry and the meal salty. Nobody came and asked if everything was alright.,also the table was so sticky.went last year and was superb wouldn’t go again.

What a great find. Dog friendly. Fitted in a large group at short notice. Fab food. Brilliant service. Lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend!

What a lovely traditional country pub. Excellent friendliness and service. Lots of places to sit and still see the views. Beautiful food at reasonable prices. I've added a picture of the menu but I think it's subject to change. Plenty of outdoor seating too. Food started at 6pm.

Only had a couple of soft drinks so can't comment on food etc. A lovely country pub which is very well presented, attentive staff and plenty of seating inside and out.

Very impressed! Great food and service and child friendly. I loved the fish and chips. The children's portions were huge. Would highly recommend. There was a little area with lots of kids toys to keep your little ones entertained. What a fantastic place.

Not as good as it used to be! We both had the Steak which was OK, but the Pepper Sauce was a tad on the runny side. What was somewhat disappointing was that we were not asked during the course of the meal if "...everything was ok..." or "...more drinks..." Also, when the meal arrived, we not asked if we wanted mustard, vinegar, etc.. This might seem a little over critical, but the place was not that busy, but the staff were pleasant enough. We were charged for the Pepper Sauce, although it had not been ordered, we assumed it came as 'standard'. This was deducted from the final bill. Their website has also been changed (still has the incorrect spelling of Faringdon though) and the booking system is not as easy.

Fabulous Fish & Chips and a lovely pint of Brakspears Gravity made for an excellent lunch yesterday. Highly recommended.

Lovely venue, great food and service. I have marked down one star because my food was spoilt by being barely warm when it arrived. Also, when I visited the men's, I washed my hands and then couldn't find anything to dry them. I would normally politely mention my problems to staff, but I was in a group and being treated and felt too embarrassed to.

Scheint eine Art Motorrad Treff zu sein. Man kann draußen in einer Art Biergarten sitzen und auch innen gibt es genug Platz. Alles ist sehr schön und das Personal nett. Essen ist wirklich gut, für die Region preislich auch ok. Würde jederzeit wieder kommen.

Best haddock and chip meal I've had. Little things like proper tartar sauce made a difference. Service was quick friendly and all the food we ordered was hot. Even the chips were tasty. Will be back.

Thank you so much for a great afternoon. The staff are so friendly from start to finish. We booked very late for 15 people and the lady on the phone took it in her stride and said we don't like to say no.The food was great the pub is very pleasant. If I did not live 1,5 hours away I would love it as a local.

Very pleasantly surprised. Saw the online menu, and then heart sank when the physical menu was handed out as it read and looked like the complete opposite to the website. However, the food was very tasty and well presented and they were very welcoming of Tom Dog too.

Food was really good, best that i have had in a while. A bit expensive but plenty of it.

Staff were very friendly and helpful and tge food was so tasty, hot and so so good. They had a lovely room just for children to play in, crammed packed with toys and games.

It could do with brightening up a bit and it wasn't as warm as it should have been, also the tables were clean but sticky. That said the service was great and the staff very welcoming. Importantly the food was really good.

Booked to go for a meal here whilst holidaying in the area. Waited nearly an hour for our food. The sirloin steak was cold, we asked for it to be heated. The waitress offered no apology, the food was returned within 5 mins but still not right. Very disappointed in this place. The next day I was unwell with a tummy upset

Found this place online while staying in the local area on a family holiday. We had food here on a Saturday evening, it was so good we returned the following day for Sunday lunch. The food was absolutely fantastic and definitely not your run of the mill pub grub. The menu is small but that’s no bad thing, as everything that was put in front of us was perfect. The portions were generous, the food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The staff were all extremely friendly and made us feel really welcome. Lovely cosy country pub feel but with a light, airy dining room and lovely outside area. Definitely worth a visit if you’re staying in the local area.

We were so excited to meet up after the pandemic had various options from roasts to fish so everyone were catered for but were left wanting as the coffee requested took a long time to arrive. The veg portions are smallThis is a quaint village pub which was central for our mixed group.

A great family time the veg portions are small, the slices of meat thin the Yorkshire puddings large could have done with more gravy. The staff are lovely and welcoming. Atmosphere convivial.
