We had a delicious Sunday roast and vegetable chickpea pie and mac and cheese for the kid, all of which were very good. The atmosphere and staff were also really great. We really enjoyed our lunch here at the pub.

We stayed the night on Thursday. Arrived early afternoon, parked easily, were met by friendly staff and shown to our room above the pub beer garden. The room was 'rustic' but charming and very comfortable and cosy. With its own entrance from outside, no need to go through the pub itself. The price (under £100) was exceptionally good value with two course breakfast included (which were superb, the quality of the sausage and bacon was as good as it ever gets!). I highly recommend.

During our recent holiday in The Cotswolds we were in the lovely village of Burford. For lunch we went to The Royal Oak for dinner. I can imagine that this is a super nice and cozy tent in the evening. Unfortunately, that kite will not fly during lunch. The food was fine, the atmosphere okay - but clearly less than in Stratford-upon-Avon earlier that week - and the service was not very friendly.

We love The Royal Oak and find ourselves gravitating there for lunches or dinners whenever we are at our Burford home. It has a really nice, ‘proper pub’ atmosphere, is friendly and has excellent food. My mum who has Alzheimer’s loves it there and comments how nice it is every time, and our kids have it as their first choice too. The pies are great with proper pastry. The fish and chips are delish. My friend was obsessed with the halloumi fries and I am obsessed with the sticky toffee pudding. It’s a good, friendly pub and a real asset to Burford.

Called for dinner early evening on a week day, not overly busy although was filling up by 19-30. Horizon golden ale wasn't the best kept. A fairly simple menu and I was struggling a little for choice. Steak pie would have been my option but previous reviewers photos had put me off (I saw said dish being served to the next table and it looked far better than the photos on Google) Went for the ham and eggs and a side of onion rings, which was good, the ham was cut thick, quality and plenty of it. I won't include my photo of it because it really doesn't do it justice. Service was friendly and polite. Unfortunately they add a service charge which we really don't get or agree with round our parts, surely the customer should be the judge of the service they receive.

Met friends and stayed for lunch. Drinks were not cheap. Food was ok, had the charcuterie share at a cost of £19.50. 10pcs of dried meat, 4 chunks of toasted sourdough bread, 6 small gherkins, olive oil with balsamic vinegar and 8 olives, in my opinion about £5 over priced! Then had a portion of fries, cost £5.25…..frozen chips reasonable portion, again IMO about £2.50 overpriced. Shame nice enough place but well overpriced

We had gone over to the Cotswold wildlife park for the morning and needed somewhere to have lunch with the family , so i had booked this pub up in advance and agreed with them to order Sunday lunch in advance which i did. We arrived at the allocated time , beware there is a car park but its fairly limited on spaces , so you may have to park on the road , again limited or the free car park within walking distance. We were a party of eleven so they had allocated their biggest table to us and we managed to just have enough room as we had two small children and dogs. The staff were very friendly and the drinks arrived quickly and so did the starters which we shared. They were good , the wild mushrooms on toast were amazing . The main courses all arrived quickly , the roast dinners were excellent especially the roast potatoes and the pies were very good , and the vegetables fine. We generally declined puddings but those that did said they were very good. The service was excellent throughout .

I visited on a Friday lunchtime and got a table for two. The service was lovely and the ambience really good, however it did take 30 minutes for a simple order of two dishes. We got the ham and fish & chips. The ham was decent, however the fish & chips were disappointing. They fish was from frozen and the batter was very oily, the chips were mediocre too and the mashed peas were inedible.

Excellent pies, but I didn't like my veggies being high on boiled cabbage. Equally impressive to the pie & gravy is the prawn in cream nduja sauce. We enjoyed the chocolate orange pud too. Service is like a traditional pub so the prices are too high for the current ambience.. but I would pay the price for excellent and generously portioned food.

We actually stayed here for three nights to attend a nearby wedding. The booking process, welcome by staff, and the room itself were excellent. Clean, good bed, warm. good bathroom and shower - could not complain, and we were very comfortable. The breakasts that went with this booking were superb as well - hot, fresh, nicely presented, with top class local country produce (eggs, bacon, sausage etc.). Unfortuantely we could'nt sample a main meal here, but I am sure it would have been good, considering every day was rammed with locals who had booked dinner or lunch. Good little bar too, with Wadworth 6X and Henry's IPA on tap (what's not to like!), and the pub kept in the quaint style and architecture to the rest of historic Burford. The Royal Oak is a real gem off the High Street in Burford.

While driving throughout the Cotswolds, I stopped and had a wonderful meal at The Royal Oak! This pub had an extensive gluten free menu full of pub favourites, which I found very intriguing. I ordered a Sunday roast with beef, the fish and chips, and a gluten free beer. The fish and chips were the standout - fluffy, thick chips, and lovely crispy fish. I also adored the horseradish dip. Unexpected winner! The Sunday roast had nice sides, and the gluten free Yorkshire pudding was delightful. The gravy was also very flavourful, despite being a bit runnier than I prefer. My only complaint was the toughness of the beef - after being inquired by the server, I asked for it to be rare. Unfortunately, it arrived a lot more cooked and tough than I had hoped. I didn’t end up finishing it. Overall, if you are gluten free and want to indulge in proper pub grub, this is a must in the area!

Holidaying in local area & decided to try a local pub for Sunday lunch, and I'm glad we chose The Royal Oak. The roast beef was a good size, very hot, lots of veg & was absolutely delicious! I had to try the waffle for dessert which needed the scoop of ice-cream to lift it, but was charged extra £2.95 for it which makes it a pricey dessert. The ice cream should have been included with the dessert or an extra £1 charged imo. Partner had sticky toffee pudding which was really good. Sourdough roll for the starter was very doughy, slices of bread would have been better, and there wasn't enough butter or balsamic vinegar in the pot with olive oil. Overall, a really good meal, with friendly attentive staff.

The whole place needs a good clean, I'm dreading what the kitchen looks like! I won't be going again. Absolutely disgusting!

Fantastic little pub, cosy and characterful and always busy with a great atmosphere. I couldn’t fault the food, we shared a charcuterie platter to start with sourdough and butter, our mains were half a roast chicken and baked sole, sides of kale and chips. There are only 6 wines by the glass, the red served too cold for me and these were comparatively average. We shared a sticky toffee sundae. Exceptional value and a great evening.

We had a really, really nice meal here. It was a Friday night and we didn't know we'd be able to go out beforehand so had not made a booking. We were grateful to be accommodated and the atmosophere was very friendly. Also, I was recommended a lager that was absolutely delicious.

Three phone conversations with the hotel management eventually confirmed that a Sunday roast could be obtained in the Terrace resturant. A table for 7 was booked and confirmed. On arrival the Terrace resturant was set up for a wedding ceremony. No other dining tables were apparent. On querying this with bar staff we were abruptly told "not our problem".Eventually found a deputy manager who set about laying up a dining table amongst the wedding guests ! Meanwhile we tried other local venues but couldn't get in within our timescale. We eventually sat for our anticipated Sunday lunch in a crowded golf club bar surrounded by a multitude of wedding guests. The food was obviously recently pulled out of the freezer, looked and tasted same ! HOPELESS !!We recommend training for front of house management in the art of coordination and courtesy for members of the bar staff.

Went for dinner and a few drinks. Both of which were very nice. Would recommend
