We actually stayed here for three nights to attend a nearby wedding. The booking process, welcome by staff, and the room itself were excellent. Clean, good bed, warm. good bathroom and shower - could not complain, and we were very comfortable. The breakasts that went with this booking were superb as well - hot, fresh, nicely presented, with top class local country produce (eggs, bacon, sausage etc.). Unfortuantely we could'nt sample a main meal here, but I am sure it would have been good, considering every day was rammed with locals who had booked dinner or lunch. Good little bar too, with Wadworth 6X and Henry's IPA on tap (what's not to like!), and the pub kept in the quaint style and architecture to the rest of historic Burford. The Royal Oak is a real gem off the High Street in Burford.

Food was delicious. Actually the best food we’ve had since we’ve been in the area. The one thing that brought our experience down was when we paid the bill. Our bill was for just over 58 pounds. I paid but noticed he charged me 85 pounds and held the payment terminal so it was upside down to me. It could have been an honest mistake but if I hadn’t caught it I would have been overcharged by 27 pounds. Just be aware.

Such a great dinner experience! The service was friendly and efficient and the staff truly cared about making our experience an excellent one. We had the fish & chips, cauliflower cheese, seasonal vegetables, and the minted pea soup. All were fresh, flavorful, and copious. The vegetables were so fresh and perfectly steamed and the cauliflower was cooked perfectly and enveloped in a delicious tangy cheese sauce. So good! Do yourself a favor and make sure to go!

Booked here after a trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park. We were a little apprehensive with a later booking for Sunday Roast (16:30) booking any pub. This place was accommodating from start to finish. They kindly put the birthday cake (for our 2 year old) behind the bar) and lit it/presented it for his birthday after he’d finished his kids roast dinner - which he told us was delicious. Staff were very friendly, service great and the food was amazing (both adults and kids roast dinners). The perfect way to end our day out in the Cotswolds. Thanks guys

While driving throughout the Cotswolds, I stopped and had a wonderful meal at The Royal Oak! This pub had an extensive gluten free menu full of pub favourites, which I found very intriguing. I ordered a Sunday roast with beef, the fish and chips, and a gluten free beer. The fish and chips were the standout - fluffy, thick chips, and lovely crispy fish. I also adored the horseradish dip. Unexpected winner! The Sunday roast had nice sides, and the gluten free Yorkshire pudding was delightful. The gravy was also very flavourful, despite being a bit runnier than I prefer. My only complaint was the toughness of the beef - after being inquired by the server, I asked for it to be rare. Unfortunately, it arrived a lot more cooked and tough than I had hoped. I didn’t end up finishing it. Overall, if you are gluten free and want to indulge in proper pub grub, this is a must in the area!

Batter on fish like chewing leather and hard to cut, Fish over cooked, a little pot of peas and twelve chips yes twelve chips for the pricely sum of £17.50 ! I asked for a few more chips and fair play they obliged. Chicken pie very nice but again very small portion of chips. 1/2 pint Amstel flat as a cup of tea Service very good but charged for at 10% without our consent.

Sat down and realised that seemed rather a lot so questioned it with a young barman that had taken over. He told us the prices of each and offered a refund on the overcharge. So advise you check what you are charged. The premises were clean and pleasant. The beer very good. No stars for rooms as didn't stay there.

Holidaying in local area & decided to try a local pub for Sunday lunch, and I'm glad we chose The Royal Oak. The roast beef was a good size, very hot, lots of veg & was absolutely delicious! I had to try the waffle for dessert which needed the scoop of ice-cream to lift it, but was charged extra £2.95 for it which makes it a pricey dessert. The ice cream should have been included with the dessert or an extra £1 charged imo. Partner had sticky toffee pudding which was really good. Sourdough roll for the starter was very doughy, slices of bread would have been better, and there wasn't enough butter or balsamic vinegar in the pot with olive oil. Overall, a really good meal, with friendly attentive staff.

It's all about the pies! We'd booked a table for 6pm and arrived early. We were quickly seated with menus and drinks. We have spent the past two years seeking out the best steak pie in the UK, having had very high quality pie experiences in Northumbria and Cumbria, we are often dubious when trying a new pie as we have been let down many times. I am very pleased to say that The Cotswold Pie Company steak and ale pie, as eaten at The Royal Oak, is officially the best pie we've ever tasted. Highly recommend.

This is a charming little spot in the heart of Charlbury, and doubles as both a deli and a sort of artisan shop and bakery with some unique goods and breads. The deli is very sweet and service is very informal but the staff were very friendly and we could easily mix and match things as we wanted them, the menu was not at all set in stone. I had an absolutely divine pate platter with fresh homemade bread and pickles as well as a sausage roll, whilst my partner had the quiche and a spinach and goats cheese roll which was very tasty. Topped off by seeing Jeremy Clarkson walk by. Great if you want a quick stop for lunch that's cheap and set in a good location.

Just returned to an old haunt, now known as The Mason's Arms. LOVE it! Having moved out of the area we hadn't realised it had changed hands. And what hands it has fallen in to! Swirly carpet gone...hurrah! Stylishly rustic, woodburners blazing, candles lit, great atmosphere and even greater food, even on a quiet Tuesday afternoon. Oh the lamb's liver starter!....it was a dream! as was the venison sausage and the ham egg and chips. Warm, friendly welcome from Dan...perfect front of house. Who wouldn't want this on their doorstep. Maybe we should move back! Congratulations!

When a business contact of mine from London told me he would be visiting Witney, of course I wanted to meet up with him. But also I wanted to impress him and show him the best that Witney ha to offer. When I booked dinner at The Three Horseshoes I was confident that my contact would have a great evening, and it was absolutely the right choice. As soon as he arrived he commented on how amazing the pub was, and how he loved the atmosphere and the log burner too. Our dinner was fantastic and even though the place was busy, the speed or service and the attentiveness of the team was brilliant. They were there when we needed them, and left us to get on with our business conversation the rest of the time. For impressing a really important contact from London - The Three Horseshoes was exactly the right choice and what is SO brilliant is that it is also the perfect choice for a quiet pint or to meet up with friends too.
