Visited the new forest for a family Sunday lunch. The three pubs we tried all booked up so left the forest hoping to find somewhere. By chance we stopped here and so glad we did. Lovely garden for the three children with play equipment. Varied menu with child friendly options. Food came out in a timely way and was hot. Lovely helpful staff. Lovely guy whose people skills were excellent. Bill was reasonable. So what started as a disaster with fed up children turned out to be a very nice lunch.

Great Sunday dinner. Chose the 3 course deal. Great value for money. Nice bottle of Merlot too. Thoroughly enjoyable. Great vibes. Restaurant busy. Service excellent 👌 food lovely. Some live music at 5pm in the bar which was great background but in no way intrusive . Bar was packed ..so excellent vibe. 5 star again for Cliffhouse. Lovely late afternoon evening visit 😁

A group of us dined here. Some of us had starters of Lobster and Shellfish Bisque and seafood with crab which was beautifully presented. For main courses we enjoyed Monkfish and other fish. Service was excellent as always. The only downside was that it was really cold …

Peggy May's Café is an absolute gem. Situated on High Street, which is the main road through Lyndhurst, it has an ideal location with a NFDC car park about five minutes walk away. This was my first visit. Living so close to Lyndhurst, we don't usually eat out there, but Mrs Philmex1 suggested it as a good place to eat. I wasn't disappointed. I ordered the chicken and halloumi wrap, changing the mayoracha sauce for ordinary mayonnaise. It was one of the best wraps I've ever had. The filling was generous and it tasted so good. Mrs Philmex1 had a baked spud with cheese and beans and thoroughly enjoyed it. It certainly looked good with plenty of fillings. The staff we encountered were lovely - very polite, friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Though busy, Peggy May's had a lovely atmosphere which enhanced our meal. Excellent in every respect!

During a visit to Hurst spit Lighthouse, we stopped by the restaurant to grab two takeaway teas to keep warm. It was terribly cold day and we assumed as the restaurant was very busy there wouldn’t be any space for us. We were met by Lewis, he said we could have the takeaway teas however then proceeded to offer us our own table to keep out of the cold. It was a charming place, and the way he conversed with us was very welcoming and friendly. Seeing all the gorgeous looking plates being served around us we decided that we wanted to have something to eat as well; we had a look at the menu and were served by a wonderful lady called Elise. Soup of the day was celeriac (which we never tried before) and we were a little concerned my partner may not like it. However with some gambling urge we thought to have one each. Without having to ask, Elise came back to our table, and in a small coffee cup, provided us a sample of the soup, to avoid ordering anything we didn’t like. What a really lovely gesture. It turned out we loved celeriac soup! Being animal lovers ourselves, we were also very quick to notice how many dogs were also being well looked after at their owners tables. They were provided water, treats and plenty of attention. The way Elise spoke with us and others was really amicable, endearing and helpful. It was a real pleasure to come across this place and meet the staff there. We will be definitely be visiting again when we are in the area.

We were a party of 32 for lunch, all pre ordered. I couldn’t fault the serving staff but the kitchen staff clearly couldn’t manage. The food was bland and over cooked. Garnishes were limp and passed their best. I asked for more red wine jus for my roast chicken and the chef sent out a beef gravy. If I had to sum up our experience I would say that there was no trained chef in the kitchen, just kitchen staff who had no idea how to cook.

Leaving this review on Tripadvisor as I had already left a review on Resdiary shortly after our visit but haven’t had a response from Resdiary so not sure what the purpose of that is. The quality of the food was generally good. However, not all the food was served at the same time ( we had a long wait for a missing beef), and the food could have been hotter. The sprouts were extremely hard ( we like them al dente but these were extreme), one portion of apple crumble was sent back to be warmed up. One glass of wine was forgotten - when it did finally arrive it was deleted from the bill. This was a family lunch get together before Christmas of 8 adults and on the whole we had a good experience but the food and service could have been better.

One of My Favourite Places to Visit This hotels restaurant is a true gem! The beautiful surroundings create a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere, making every visit enjoyable. The food is consistently delicious, and I highly recommend the Sunday roast—it's simply outstanding. The staff are always friendly and attentive, adding to the overall pleasant experience. Plenty of parking is available, which is a great convenience. Definitely worth a visit!
