The review is based on staying for one night only without breakfast or dinner. We stayed in room 19 which was on the ground floor at the extremity of the building. The furnishings were of a good standard, bedding, towels, etc. very good standard. The bed (standard double) was very comfortable, with decent pillows. Small but good (non-smart) TV. Tea and coffee facilities with both tea and coffee cups. Sparkling and still water bottles (the still water had already been opened) and biscuits were provided, as were shampoo and shower gel. The room was 'cosy' (small) and the bathroom (no bath) was very small but adequate. The shower was wonderful - massive water flow. The bathroom had very poor ventilation and damp/mildew was evident in some places. The room door allowed all the sound from the hallway to come through, which considering that the hallway was thin laminated wooden-floored and very 'loud and 'echo-ey' meant we could hear other guests unlocking/locking and opening/closing their doors as if we in the hallway ourselves. The hallway floor sounded hollow so wheeling a suitcase along was very noisy. Only one mains socket is available (via an adaptor). Single-glazed sash window faced the hotel's main gravel car park. This meant any vehicles arriving late or departing very early disturbed sleep. The public areas of the hotel were lovely. Attractive decor and all seemed spotless. Not that we ate, but the dining areas seemed bright, airy, spacious and welcoming. I'm guessing the room we had was probably their poorest and imagine that the upper floor rooms at the rear would have been delightful, but room 19 is not one to aim for! There is (claimed) Wi-Fi throughout all rooms and public spaces but we couldn't get more than 3 Mb/s (very slow) in our room, which is OK for basic, simple stuff. We secured a discount online and therefore couldn't complain, but wouldn't have wanted to pay standard full rate for room 19. The hotel is situated within very easy reach of the rural parts of the New Forest. It's in a really quiet area with a lovely rear garden/grounds - perfect for warmer and dryer months.

We had the chocoholics afternoon tea, which I bought for my husband for his birthday. We were greeted by a lovely lady who was friendly and attentive. They had set us a nice table by the window. Unfortunately the place was completely empty, which was a shame as it made it colder with not much of an atmosphere. However, this did not impact the service or food. The food was really delicious. I particularly loved the chocolate mousse on a thin, flaky pastry case and the baileys shot with cream, which was extra tasty. If I had to give any critique, which I think is constructive feedback, is that new teapots are needed. The tea kept spilling all out of the pot no matter how carefully I poured it. Other than that, our server was lovely, and the food was delicious. Thank you

My elderly aunt was booked to stay here with her dog, but when her canine colleague passed away suddenly, the hotel kindly cancelled the booking with no hassle at all. I heard the message that the hotel left my aunt, and it was kind, warm, generous and consoling. She and I have never stayed at this hotel, but having experienced their customer service, I can only imagine what a lovely place it would be to stay. Please pass our thanks on to your team.

We enjoyed a great meal here and made a return visit, this time staying overnight and opting for breakfast. The food was wonderful on both occasions, well put together and portion sizes were sensible, leaving you comfortably full. Our family room was spacious and had all we needed. Sadly the bed was dreadful. It offered little support, resulting in a poor night's sleep and leaving us both in pain. We shared our feedback weeks ago and have had no reply to date. We would highly recommend the food and credit to the staff who are very friendly, it's a great shame about the bed. Edit: Feedback emailed to Woodlands 12 Sept, over four weeks ago.

Lovely building and gardens, staff very friendly and welcoming we had a great few days here with the dog. Cooked breakfast I think could be improved, slightly under cooked for me and not much flavour, I went for the waffle the other mornings and that was perfect. Few little changes to the rooms maybe.. we stayed in room 11 and the small TV being to far away and at an awkward angle made watching a little difficult. Also the kettle needed moving each time to use it so it could reach the plug socket. Soap missing and a half opened bottle of water in the room on arrival, we simply asked for some soap and the nice lady brought us some straight up. All in all we had a comfortable stay and no major issues, always room for improvements, I'd stay here again no problems.

We visited Woodlands Lodge today for afternoon tea for my mum's birthday. I wanted to treat her to something special after a really difficult few months and I couldn't have asked for more. The wonderful staff had set up a table on the patio for us and had decorated with a birthday banner, which was a lovely surprise and went out of their to look after us. We were presented with great selection of finger sandwiches, traditional plain and fruit scones with jam and cream, and a lovely selection of miniature cakes alongside unlimited tea or coffee. And to top it off, to wish mum a happy birthday, bought out a beautifully decorated plate with extra chocolates and macaroons. Thank you for making the day so special.

I was in room 3 and found the bed well sprung but old style. If you get too close to the edge you will be on the floor. There is no shower which was a shame. The room was very clean and cozy, although it's a double I wouldn't recommend it for two people. But for my one night on business it was ideal. The hotel is in a very rural setting so don't expect to walk to shops. It would make a good base for a holiday if you are out every day as there is little else to do there.

A country hotel with much to commend it, but with a few issues as well, mainly in the dining experience. The hotel’s location in the New Forest is excellent, with many possible walks starting from the hotel grounds. As a birder, I was excited to find Spotted Flycatcher and Common Redstarts within 150m of the hotel buildings. We stayed for 3 nights and had dinner on the last of these. There is ample parking. We were checked in efficiently and had help taking our bags to the room. The very clean room was spacious with lots of storage space and a lovely view over the grounds. The bathroom had both a bath and shower, but that meant that both were small. No problem with hot water, and the towels were fine. There was a small TV, a fan and a hairdryer, two comfortable chairs and a small table. Plain and sparkling bottled water was provided. The wifi worked reasonably most of the time. The bed and pillows were too soft and saggy for me. The fire notice on the bedroom door had a large section of the English instructions missing. Rooms are tidied and cleaned only on request, which seems sensible. The stairs had some dead flies and a distinctive dead moth on them when we arrived and these only disappeared on our third day. The room was spidery. The thin-legged cellar spider that dropped onto the bed was one thing, but the large, hairy, house spider scuttling past me to hide under the bed was another. The bathroom had a much lower ceiling than the main room leaving a large and open void above, which may have been the source of these arachnids, as I doubt that it could be cleaned. There were also cobwebs above the light shade. The bar is adequately stocked, with some reasonable bottled beers and a draft lager. On one day, we had sandwiches here for lunch and they were nice (though tasting of too much margarine). Breakfast was problematic for me. Everything, including drinks, had to be ordered and served, which means you can’t have a quick continental breakfast or choose what you like the look of. The service was friendly, but slow and erratic, so that the coffee and tea might come soon after ordering, but the food would be 20-30 minutes later. The quality of food was fine, with a range of branded cereals, plain or fruit yogurt (twice we ordered plain yogurt but fruit yogurt was served and had to be changed) and the usual selection of cooked breakfast, with good portions. The decaff coffee is good. On our last night, we had an evening meal with friends. I take responsibility for not discussing my dietary requirements in advance, but I did not expect the kitchen to be totally inflexible. I wanted a main course without onion and or garlic and not deep fried. The only option appeared to be the steak, but I wouldn’t eat 8oz of red meat in one sitting (that’s half a week’s healthy allowance) and at almost £30 I wasn’t going to eat half a steak. They couldn’t do a plain fish or chicken meal without the sauces, and I finally suggested a mushroom omelette and some bread, just to have something to eat. They forgot to bring the bread with the omelette and it took quite a while to come, perhaps defrosting. My partner enjoyed her fried fish, though there weren’t too m any skin –on chips to accompany it. The customer-facing staff were lovely, with the exception of the owner, who was sullen and unfriendly. No response to my ‘Good Morning’ at breakfast; no ‘thank you’ or ‘see you again’ or ‘safe journey’ when my partner paid the bill before leaving. At breakfast one day, he spotted me asking the waitress for a clean cup. They were all stained, which I could live with, but mine also had little bits in it that hadn’t been rinsed off. He came over to ask what the problem was. I said it was a dirty cup but it had been resolved, and he just glowered at me for a while, before turning and walking off. It made me feel quite unwelcome.

Had a business event here, the staff were amazing and attentive for our group of 20 odd. Some areas of the place are looking a bit tired, however we were looked after well which is what makes it. Service with a smile👍👌

Room clean and tidy, location perfect to enjoy the New Forest, the hotel needs a lick of paint, shabby in places but the staff more than make up for it. They are polite, attentive and happy to engage in conversation. Cooked breakfast was superb.

I attended a baby shower at Woodlands Lodge over the weekend and have to say the service and food were amazing. It’s a beautiful venue that’s tucked away in Woodlands. I spotted some garden games outside, it was perfect weather for a game of giant chess too! Beautiful venue, brilliant staff always making sure we were okay but without you really knowing they were there. I’ll definitely come back! Glad I know it’s there now.

This is a great boutique hotel, lovely setting, excellent service from simply everyone, very friendly and helpful, great food choices for every meal, and for those that need it dog friendly. There is good meal separation for those that dont want to dine with dogs. Finally whats more great value. Well done!

We had our wedding here 6months ago and had such a wonderful day. From our first visit three years ago, the staff have been warm, friendly and efficient. We were again greeted for dinner tonight with smiles and attentive service. Over the three years we have had cream teas, dinners and of course our wedding breakfast. My dietary needs are extremely well catered for, making a relaxing meal every time. Thank you to all the staff, including the chef, for giving us a special place to visit and see you again soon!

We had our wedding weekend at Woodlands Lodge Hotel and it was absolutely perfect. The team were always on hand to cater to our every need and everything went exactly to plan. I can’t thank everyone enough nor could I have asked for anything more! The food was amazing and the gardens made for the best wedding photos. Thank you Imogene and team - we will definitely be back.

Went there for Sunday lunch and expected a roast dinner as per their own menu. "Not today folks" "not enough guests to warrant cooking" What??? Disappointed but the food was good off the menu. Ordered a pint and a half of shandy and got two large bottles of beer half empty with our two drinks. "They don't serve half pints only bottles" What??? (Again) Therefore there was too much beer and we paid more for the privilege. We could have shared one bottle between the two shandys. Point was we were not asked or told as such. Poor service there. However...... Otherwise great. Pleasant staff. Nice location. Dog friendly too. Would go again.

A good location next to the new forest woodland. Walkable to Ashurst and Lyndhurst. We stayed in a dog friendly room which was a really good size. Maybe the decor was a bit tired but we didn't mind. Room looked clean. Shower pressure was a bit weak. A nice large garden which led straight on to woodland. Staff were very polite and helpful throughout the visit. The food was excellent (dinner and breakfast). Accommodating vegan options. We stayed on a travel zoo offer.
