The Cliff House Restaurant in New Forest

Just a quick shout out to the Cliff house. Usually put a review on every now and then for the Cliff house. Ate here last week and yet again exceptional service, great choice of drinks and good menu. Had a chateaubriand which was cooked perfectly. Price is ok for location. Thoroughly enjoyable

We enjoyed a very pleasant two night stay attending a society annual lunch. Food was excellent, our only problem was what to choose from the menu? Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable.

Visited twice over a long weekend with superb food on each occasion. Service was personable, friendly and the restaurant was always busy. Food was traditional, but expertly cooked and tasty, hot and very flavoursome. Also had an amazing Long Island Ice Tea.

Beautiful location with views over the Isle of Wight and the Needles. Catered very professionally for a lunch for over 36 people. All of the staff without exception were friendly and welcoming, food was delicious and arrived promptly, presented beautifully with good size portions. Hotel accommodation was comfortable with thoughtful extras such as locally produced bathroom products, bottled water bought in support of the RNLI and local teabags. Full English breakfast lived up to the day before. Lovely cliff walks to balance the effect of eating and drinking too much. Everyone enjoyed it hugely, definitely a venue to visit again. Thank you very much!

Lovely location, friendly staff - helpful when we had to ask to move tables. Food was really hot and everyone enjoyed their meal. Great cocktail menu. Would go back, car park is bit small but plenty of street parking. Tasty coffee too. Will return

Very busy but staff were very efficient and helpful. Nice food, cooked well and service swift. Couldn't fault it really. Nice pub grub with nice views.

No starters. Enjoyed the Cornish hake with spinach, mashed potatoes and asparagus and Mrs enjoyed the fish cakes. Smaller portions than expected but this meant we both had plenty of room for dessert and can report that the spiced rum and chilli soaked pineapple with mango pieces and coconut yoghurt was gorgeous. Draught Doom bar was disappointingly gassy, like lager, but overall experience was enjoyable. Beautiful views of coast, sea and IOW and gents toilet interestingly housed various signed football shirts. Dog friendly with separate section for well-behaved dogs. Rules for dogs are on the entrance hall wall!

Dinner was exceptionally good at this dog friendly restaurant. Everything was cooked to perfection and the pud was a work of art! We eat in a lot of great restaurants and this was right up there with the best. Unfortunately the accommodation wasn't good but will definitely return for dinner. Lovely staff and management.

Second visit here today. This time for our wedding anniversary lunch and first time for my parent’s diamond wedding anniversary lunch. Both times food and service were very good and views were stunning. No enforced service charge (which is a new thing in recent years which really annoys me) and tips go directly to the staff. Ticks every box for me and would recommend 100%.

What a fantastic meal with excellent service. The food was tremendous and we really enjoyed the three courses we had. It was hard to decide the star of the meal as the starters were amazing, the mains equally as good so I guess the baked alaska wins. Absolutely fantastic loved it!

What a great restaurant,everything from the setting to the staff to the food is 10 out of 10.It’s really hard to think of anything that’s not top notch every dish we had was outstanding with the stand out dish the Hake and all washed down with an exceptional rose wine.

In the area and looking for somewhere for dinner, so I used Trip Advisor. Highly recommended by reviewers was The Cliff House, and only 10 minutes from our hotel. Staff were all very welcoming and very professional. Service ran seamlessly. The food was great. We ate from the 'specials' menu, so 3 courses for the two of us, two pints, one wine and a tonic water all for the bloody amazing sum of £66. Absolutely brilliant! No corners were cut with the quality or the presentation for this princely sum. Cannot recommend highly enough 👍 Think we may go back tomorrow...

We were a family of five adults eating Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday. The menu choice was varied and there was something to suit everyone. We all had the three course lunch and the food was beautifully presented and delicious to taste. The atmosphere was very welcoming. Staff were very friendly and efficient. It was lovely to be able to take our dog along as well. It was our first visit to the Cliff House and we look forward to visiting again.

I was very disappointed at the quality and poor quality of the fish on a Haddock and chips meal. I don’t think I ever been served such a thin and skimpy piece of fish. The batter was flat and I wasn’t sure it had batter on it. The tempura prawns as a starter the batter was non existent. I was very disappointed

Love The Cliff House. Excellent food and excellent staff and service. We visited twice during December, going to The Alpine Bar each time. Once for lunch and one evening meal. The Cliffhouse is one of three establishments owned by the same people (The Townhouse in Lymington and The Lighthouse in Milford on Sea) this has now become a destination establishment. This place is a must to visit. Busy, thriving, energetic. Wonderful attentive staff. Their menu is amazing and changes with the seasons. If you love fish then this is the place to visit. I'm not sure who the chef is but is a master with ingredients, taste and presentation regardless as to what is prepared If you're a gin lover then their extensive gin menu will not disappoint. Married up with Fever Tree mixers Booking for the main restaurant is a must at weekends or sit in the bar and enjoy an array of beers, wines and food. Outside seating is available all year round. Summer will give you views across to Hengisbury Head (Dorset), overlooks Barton beach and you can watch the sun set over The Solent - very beautiful or enjoy the differing hues of winter skies as the sun disappears - bring your camera. Accommodation available with onsite carpark. Dogs allowed.

Came with my parter for Christmas dinner and some cocktails, staff very friendly, cocktails were lush, food was yummy, only negative would be the speed at which our three courses came out, had all three courses out within 40 minutes so the evening didn’t go on as long as we had planned, was too full, and no time to order a second bottle of wine!

Been a couple of time recently and had fab evenings. The food has been amazing (festive menus), the Alpine Bar is a great addition and the live music at the weekend is good fun! Staff are always lovely and attentive - we had a joint Xmas/ Birthday event which we hadn't told them, yet after we had sung happy birthday they presented my friend with a lovely birthday dessert - nice touches, food and a super atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!

Went for lunch and they had a two courses for £15 offer with three choices of starter and three choices of main . One of the mains on offer was a Caesar salad with breaded prawns. I asked if I could have it but with normal prawns as cannot eat gluten. Waitress went to ask….kitchen had said no as they apparently didn’t have any other prawns. All the prawns were already breaded, I was told. Except that the main menu had two other choices of (non breaded) prawns so I asked if my Caesar salad could please have those prawns. “No” came the answer. So I asked if I could have it with chicken instead. The waitress came back to say that the kitchen had said that the only chicken they had was pre-prepared jerk chicken which I could have with my Caesar salad ….for an upgrade cost of £8!!!!! Firstly jerk chicken does not go with a Caesar dressing. Secondly, £8 upgrade to have chicken instead of prawns? ! Madness. So I then said , ok, can I just have a few extra anchovies with my Caesar salad instead? “There are no anchovies on our Caesar salad”, said the waitress. I asked if she was sure because a Caesar salad does usually have anchovies. She said she was sure. So I had to pay extra to order from the bespoke menu. My friend ordered the Caesar salad with the breaded prawns. It arrived…..with anchovies on it!! Her salad was absolutely dripping with a mustard type dressing and the lettuce was limp. Not impressed at all with the quality of the food, nor the standard of service or the complete inability to adjust to allergies and to try to con an allergic cusomter to pay £8 extra to have chicken rather than breaded prawns and the lie that the restaurant had no other prawns, chicken or anchovies in stock. Really bizarre. I have been a regular customer but will now no return.

We went to cliff house for a works Xmas party and I have to say it was excellent nice welcome when we arrived and showed straight to table. The food was amazing I did not think you could possibly make a Xmas turkey dinner taste so good starters and sweet was also of exceptional quality will definitely be returning in the new year.

Wow, from the moment we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly team of staff, the decor and atmosphere was just lovely. The cocktails were delicious especially the cliff top garden cocktail. Starter I had scallops, just unbelievably gorgeous and main I had the fillet steak, cooked just as I requested, melted in my mouth and was superb! Couldn’t fit in a dessert as was completely stuffed. I would highly recommend this restaurant for family, friends, colleagues and couples. Just outstanding!

Had a wonderful Saturday afternoon at the Cliff House to celebrate my birthday. The staff were extremely helpful, friendly and efficient. Food was superb too!

We usually go to the Cliff House in the Summer to take advantage of the beautiful views and sunsets. Sitting in the glass area inside is a bit soulless and I think the lighting could be improved to create an atmosphere. Having said that we really enjoyed the evening and the food was very good Staff friendly and helpful. The two men in our party enjoyed the calves liver.

Even on a November week day the restaurant was buzzing. We enjoyed a lovely lunch with very nice food and excellent service. With food prices rising rapidly at the moment the menu prices seemed reasonable and good value. We'll certainly be back.

Had a lovely lunch here, couldn’t have been happier. We were seated with a lovely sea view. Lots of selection on the menu and was very tasty. Great quality food and good portion sizes (had to have a walk after lunch to walk it off!!) highly recommend this restaurant, will have to come back again but for dinner.

My partner and I had a great stay at The Cliff House. The staff are attentive, accommodating and helpful and the room we stayed in (Plymouth) was clean, cosy and had the best sea views!
