Had an excellent lunch and here today with friends..melt in your mouth beef, great Yorkshire's and sides.....sticky toffee pudding and souffles to follow. Great ambience, food was superb, and all of the front of house team was upbeat, knowledgeable and suitably attentive. Thank you.

Two pals who visit Lymington every Spring, like the challenge of visiting restaurants new to them. The High Street Kitchen came recommended and in most respects we could see why. Unfortunately, there were a couple of issues with the food which stopped the 5star award. It’s often said that any food establishment has the occasional problem and the quality of the place is determined by the response to those issues. The response from GM Laura and owner/ chef Gavin was exemplary. For starters, we both had the chicken liver parfait - excellent and very smooth. My main of chicken truffle risotto had wonderful flavour but the risotto was only lukewarm. I chose not to send it back but mentioned it to Kia our very attentive server. My friend had fish and chips. He like me is not a fan of fish skin and certainly not served on top making access to the fish problematic. After mentioning our issues to Kia, Laura quickly came to our table followed shortly by Gavin. Immediately, the cost of the two main courses was removed. The discussion was constructive and reasonable and over a glass of wine. Our comments were listened to and taken on board. Very impressive and we look forward to visiting again on our next Lymington trip visit Ian and John

An excellent meal, yet again! Very tasty! Fresh ingredients all prepared beautifully. Super personal service. One minor point, it would be good to have a slightly larger menu, to give more choice. We will be back. Thank you Gavin and the team.

As always the food was delicious and the service very friendly. Gavin goes out of his way to use the highest quality ingredients and will even get liver in for my husband even if it’s not on the menu. Would highly recommend, best Sunday Roast Beef out!

So disappointed!! Had read the reviews and were really looking forward to our Friday night out with friends. We all went for main courses - my husband and I ordered the pheasant breast with dauphinoise, our friends had the Rib Eye Steak. We waited some considerable time and the restaurant was a quarter full. My husband's and my food was tepid!! What had happened at the pass? Why was our food tepid? I commented and was offered more potatoes - I didn't want more potatoes, the whole plate was tepid as was the plate itself!! Sorry - won't be returning! Perhaps the chef was having an off night!!

At last a decent restaurant in lymington. A lovely venue, relaxing ambience, and a nice menu. Our food was good, but not quite as good as I expected. Starter of scallops was delicious and elegant. My main of braised beef however was very big, and felt a bit more pub like. I also had a bit piece of string left in the beef which was disappointing. Service was ok - our table was right by the counter so the service staff had their backs to us most of the time and we felt a little forgotten. Overall, a good experience with the potential to be great. I would come again, but would hope for a little improvement in the service and consistency of the food to justify the prices. Great to have a restaurant of this quality in lymington. I hope the feedback is helpful.

I can honestly say this was one of the best restaurants I’ve eaten in and eaten in so many. The restaurant has a lovely, relaxed but special vibe. The staff are exceptional. The food was out of this world!!! Incredible ingredients, flavours and beautifully presented. We chose a red, an expensive red, but instead of taking our order, we were told it’s tanning and mix might not go with our dish. We were instead recommended a different wine that was so yummy we ordered a second. Super impressed. This is a destination restaurant and we’ll be back again and again

The most amazing service and food. So welcoming and friendly with a great menu at a reasonable price. Very well kept wines which were delicious. The staff were so great, lovely to see a family run business with young staff that were attentive and well trained in customer service. Thank you, we will be back.

Great restaurant with lovely attentive staff. We had a lovely meal, mussels and the terrine for starters. Both were excellent and brilliantly presented. Main courses of steak and the chicken. Both were cooked to perfection. Large portions, so much so, we unfortunately couldn't manage a dessert. Lovely bottle of wine and complimentary drinks to start with to celebrate a special birthday. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable experience. It's a tad pricey, but definitely worth it. Can't wait to go back.

Having read some very complementary reviews I though this would be a good place to take my friend to eat on her birthday. It was difficult to chose from the menu as there was a very restricted choice. Our starter was promising , tasty but small portion and quite fatty. The main course of Chicken Croquettes We’re exceptionally salty, I couldn’t eat it all. Desserts were excellent. Staff where very pleasant. With 1 bottle of SB wine at (£40) a bottle Total for a meal for 2 over £150 Certainly not cheap.

My wife and I had dinner there Wednesday evening. We had probably the best food ever in Lymington and the New Forest which we have been visiting for over thirty years! The restaurant itself is very nicely done, great decor, good quality napkins, glasses, crockery and cutlery. All very well and thoughtfully done. I had pork belly with black garlic, rib eye steak and chocolate brownie. Cookery, presentation, seasoning all perfect. My wife had a tomato salad, grey mullet (not on the menu but offered by the chef as fresh in that day) and the crumble. Again all perfect. Very rarely do you get consistent cooking of this quality combined with excellent service, good wine selection and all at sensible prices. When in Lymington again this will be out first choice without any doubt. Thanks to chef and Maitre de. It was terrific in every regard.

Wow! Absolutely stunning food, every bite was delicious, very attentive waitresses, Gavin came out of the kitchen to say hello and have a little chat which was nice. Loved it! Certainly the best food we’ve eaten in the south since moving from Manchester 10 years ago.

Abysmal beyond words. The staff ignore you and ignore you. We had to find a waiter to order. Wrong drinks arrived - our fault apparently. When I voiced my displeasure it seemed to amuse the smirking young man who eventually came to see us. Food actually reasonable but literally ( and I do mean literally) the worst experience in a restaurant pub in my life. And as we speak I am chasing a coffee that never arrived - they can’t even get that right. Update - coffee cancelled as they couldn’t remember what we ordered. I summarise our visit as an experience of the worst service imaginable and staff that showed no concern whatsoever even after , half way through the stay, we expressed our disappointment. It did not get better at this point- it actually got worse.

We are fairly local, and I hadn’t been before. My friends had advised me that the landlord could be quite rude. When being served we asked him several questions regarding the ales, to which he kept silent and blanked us. What a strange way to treat customers. Very odd behaviour, and frankly off-putting. Why you would purposely be standoffish and rude is just bizarre. Anyway, the pizza van outside was great, which also had nothing to do with the pub. Unlikely to go again

Fish had tonnes of bones in it. I know to expect some, but every mouthful is a lot. Also tasted a bit odd... oil needed changing as everything had a strange smoky flavour. A shame as this used to be a family favourite

Had Sunday lunch with the family at this hotel. The staff were friendly, the meal was good, very good, but the service was appallingly slow. The drinks at the beginning took 20 minutes to arrive. We had to cancel our coffee order as it had not arrived after 30 minutes, pay and leave. We felt completely ignored. It's a shame because that was poor, and we left feeling a bit fed up.
