We booked the table last minute really on a Saturday night for 8pm. We arrived at 8:12 and we were the only people in there which I thought was a real shame. After apologising for being late we were told that the kitchen was about to close in quite an aggressive manner. As a newly reopened place that was empty it wasn’t the welcome we thought we would get. Again, another person in our party was told on the way in that the kitchen was about to close, by that point it was a bit awkward. Anyway, we got on with the evening and to summarise the food was quite impressive. The fish was slightly overcooked but the people who had the duck special really enjoyed their mains and so did the person who had the beef pie. The service got better throughout the evening but it will always stick in my mind the start to the evening. Sussex has some amazing pubs and places have to really stick out for people to be repeat customers.

I always enjoy the experience of dining at the Gravetye Manor. I last went a year ago and was very much looking forward to my return visit. They have changed the experience by introducing some taster courses in between you chosen meal from the set menu, for the month or season. What a brilliant addition ! A wonderful meal. I enjoyed every course.

Seated quickly on arrival. We were given menus, drinks ordered and main courses ordered - Sunday roast for both of us. Dinners arrived promptly, a very average meal. We finished our meal, we waited for our plates to be cleared away for a good 25 minutes which is a lot longer than it should have taken. Other tables also were waiting for their plates to be cleared, very annoying when one of the waitress was chatting to a customer/friend of hers for a good 15/20mins. We ordered dessert and another drink. The drink ordered never arrived, it was on the bill when it arrived. When pointed out to the lady who gave us the bill, the drink and service charge were both removed. Definitely would not go back in a hurry

Our fourth time staying at The Cat over several years and it was just as great as ever. From the smell of wood smoke in the front bar, through the excellently kept local beer, to the delicious food, to the cosy rooms upstairs, it’s an absolute gem. Expect elevated pub classic food on the menu with some more adventurous specials and dishes and a great buzz throughout the building during service. And then come downstairs in the morning to a terrific breakfast of fresh fruit and yoghurt and a full breakfast. But one thing ties the whole place together: the service. Absolutely first rate; the friendliest, nicest team; completely on point. Would recommend again and again.

We enjoy visiting this traditional village pub for lunch, it is served by an hourly bus which runs from Brighton to East Grinstead so is easy to reach, and is popular with walkers and cyclists in the summer months, there is plenty of outside seating in the sunny frontage as well as a bar with an open fire and a restaurant area. The food varies from light lunches to pub classics and there is always a specials board, I had an amazing seafood linguine recently. There are deals on certain nights too. We sometimes take the wider family there and the children enjoy the meals. We have always been made to feel very welcome.
