I always enjoy the experience of dining at the Gravetye Manor. I last went a year ago and was very much looking forward to my return visit. They have changed the experience by introducing some taster courses in between you chosen meal from the set menu, for the month or season. What a brilliant addition ! A wonderful meal. I enjoyed every course.

We are Americans who spent two nights here before a flight out of Heathrow, which is one hour away. We had hard about the inn through a British online cruising acquaintance. The hotel is located in a gorgeous quiet countryside setting. It is an old manor set amongst meadows and woodlands, is exquisitely maintained, and has fantastic William Robinson style gardens of produce, romantic walkways, and paths (which can be moderately challenging) that go to nearby villages. The service was impeccable, starting with the valet greeting as we pulled in for reception. The motto seemed to be "your wish is our command". Reception personnel, in advance, were very helpful in making sure we had the in-room massage we requested arranged through their Ruuby contractor despite very short notice on arrival. Laundry would be delivered same-day at reasonable prices. Restaurant service was white table cloth and very professional, with comfortable seating. During the day the restaurant looks out at the garden. Room service arrived at the requested time, hot and as requested. The Do Not Disturb sign was honored. The multi-course fine dining experience in the evening was perfect , with brilliant service and a very helpful sommelier who assisted in navigating the massive wine list (wines had a 2-3x markup, which is typical for luxury hotels). Breakfast juices were fresh-squeezed and delicious (be sure and try the apple juice, which comes from estate apples). Our upper floor spacious room ("Pear"), had a deep, copper-coated tub (with a helpful bath mat) and separate shower, a high ceiling, and a very comfortable bed, mini-bar, more than adequate hanging space and drawers including bedside drawers. I appreciated that key information about Gravetye for guests did not require use of a QR code, and was instead printed and accessible in a booklet, the old-fashioned way. Hosts provided a pre-printed list of five local walks one could do straight from Gravetye, without having to drive (the shortest one is to the Cat Inn is West Hoathley village, where one can also visit the interestingh Priest House museum). This is a terrific, relaxing venue. The only improvement suggestions I have would be: 1. to have the option of a more basic British food menu to eat in the dining room after the first night of the multi-course fine dining experience (as it is, there is a bit too much repetition even with the "alternative" menu offering). Properly cooked fish and chips or a meat pie as an alternative offering (or the equivalent for vegetarians) would help provide variety for guests who cannot eat elaborate foods every night (otherwise one has to drive into the nearby villages). 2. There is also no "continental" breakfast offering (e.g., crispy morning baguette-type breads with quality cold meats and cheeses), just the usual English fare options, but I understand that is typical for almost all luxury venues in England (though of course the English breakfast offering was nicely done). 3. There could also be some improvement in the phone answering system when things get busy (on a Friday afternoon, we were disconnected a couple times before we got through). The per diem is very expensive, but the reality is you have to pay a lot to receive the caliber of lodging, food and service that Gravetye provides. We hope to visit again in the future (it can be a destination in itself, even off season), and have advised our travel agent of this wonderful find.

We were celebrating a milestone birthday and stayed overnight. The garden was the main attraction for me as it is beautiful and historically important. William Robinson was a pioneer of the naturalistic style of gardening so a walk around the garden is a real treat. We stayed in the Holly Room which was charming, spacious and overlooked the garden. There were free goodies to eat and drink in the room which we thought was a nice touch. Due to a medical condition, I have to be very careful what I eat so I was concerned how an award winning Michelin starred chef would react to me messing about with his menu. However, George the chef was amazingly kind and helpful. He designed a cut down(at our request) menu which was delicious and safe. Normally I find that the food I am offered is unimaginative and boring but I ate a Michelin standard meal despite the restrictions. The dining room itself is a great experience because there is glass all across the front so you feel immersed in the gorgeous garden. We also had breakfast there and afternoon tea in the garden. The service was excellent; the doorman who greeted us, the reception, bar and restaurant, were all pleasant and helpful. Yes,Gravetye Manor is expensive but in our opinion provides good value for money as our celebration was a very special experience. Gravetye appeared to be very popular judging by the fullness of the restaurant for lunch and dinner so clearly plenty of other people also appreciate the uniqueness of a stay there.

We are in the fortunate position of being able to have a handful of really special meals each year. We have had lunch at Gravetye Manor twice and I have to say it’s as good as it gets. I chose to celebrate my 40th at Gravetye and it was perfect from start to finish. The events team were helpful and responsive, helping me organize the perfect lunch for 7 of my closest family. The day itself was wonderful - we had pre drinks of Nyetimber rose out on the terrace. The wine flowed, the service was great and discreet (eg subtly notifying you the fizz is low and enquiring would we like another bottle). The small private dining room was perfect - whilst I generally am not a fan of wood panelled rooms, this could not have worked better. It was cosy but luxurious. They kept the door open so I could see the wonderful dining room and gardens beyond. It was such a memorable afternoon for us and I could not think of a better way to spend a birthday. Excellent value, brilliant food and wonderful service. Faultless. Thank you so such a wonderful memory and making both my guests and I feel very special.

Without doubt a beautiful setting, but afternoon tea was distinctly average and unexciting, therefore overpriced. We expected something special and were disappointed. Service was ok but not out of the ordinary, so overall it didn’t feel like the special treat we were hoping for, Better options not so far away.

The dining experience is visually as delicious as the food. We came here some years ago for luch and though we enjoyed the food it seemed a little pricey for what we had. We enjoyed the gardens enormously and found ourselves wishing we could have eaten among the terraces of lovely blooms. Since our last visit there is a larger and most beautiful new dining room. It preserves the glorious old mansion house while extending the dining area out into the garden. The food was also much better value for money this time and our wish to eat among the blooms came true. £125 for three courses seemed expensive, the reality was those three courses were not only delicious but supplemented with a host of bites between courses, such as a couple of delicious amuse-bouches, a wonderful selection of freshly made breads (onion, mini-baguette, black treacle) with herbal butter, a pre-dessert as delightful as my "actual" dessert and petits fours to finish. In the end we found the meal was well worth £125/person Of course there were also drinks. We enjoyed a reasonably priced Champagne in the garden beforehand, an absolute must and a true delight. When it came time to be seated in the dining room, one of the waiters brought our bottle and all our drinks into the dining room. While on the subject of the gardens, I highly recommend a walk around the gardens and at least a visit to the kitchen either before dinner or after lunch to see the treasured expanse of freshly grown fruit and vegetables, an enormous variety on display. The kitchen garden is one of the secrets behind the pureness of taste and freshness of the dishes. The sommelier was very helpful, recommending a perfect Pouilly Fumé to go with our main course. Some of the wines are very expensive, others are more reasonable. Thankfully, though the sommelier's recommendation was at the more reasonable end of the price spectrum, it matched splendidly with our food. The dining service was excellent, the staff polite, friendly and attentive. We drove up to the front entrance to save my blind disabled mother-in-law the short walk from the car park. The doorman later retrieved our car for us so it would be ready and parked by the steps after the meal.

Our lunch party of 5 arrived and requested a pre lunch drink in the beautiful garden but were told this wasn’t possible due to rigid allocated dining times. We could however have had garden drinks whilst looking at the menu! After lunch we had coffee in the garden and several more bottles of champagne. When we requested cheese and biscuits we were told that chef said he had no time ! Does it really require a Michelin star chef to rustle up a plate of cheese and biscuits? Where is customer service?

This was our first visit to the restaurant and it was a triumph! The staff were most welcoming and we were quickly seated in the main restaurant. The restaurant is nicely appointed and the glass wall gave a super view of the garden (bursting with blooms). The lunch menu has multiple choices available for each course. We were initially served a chef’s welcome followed by an amuse Bouche. Both delicious. I chose the venison tata and my wife the crab as starters. These were accompanied by a selection of superb artisan breads. The dishes were beautiful in appearance and delicious. We then received a delicious mid course pea risotto and brioche. Again delicious. For a main course I had the chicken and my wife the cod. Again beautifully presented and delicious. Desert was the gooseberry soufflé - simply to die for. There is a huge wine selection catering to all tastes. Our chosen white was a not available and a pleasant surprise was the sommelier gave us a more expensive bottle for the price of the one ordered. We were even invited to view the kitchen and were able to compliment the chef in person. Overall an excellent meal, served by welcoming and very professional staff in a very comfortable venue.

A wonderful experience for a family lunch. Drinks in the extraordinary gardens, fabulous lunch, local seasonal food, much grown in their own garden, with multiple extra courses in the gorgeous dining room. Exemplary service from all the cheerful staff. Special thanks to Federico who was extremely kind to my embarrassed teenager when he knocked a glass of wine over himself (and extremely kind to me, replacing the glass). We stayed overnight at Gravetye Manor and ate in the restaurant, which was superb. The hotel is expensive; it has lovely rooms, which are warm and comfortable, with very well appointed bathrooms and a walk in shower. The beds were very comfortable, although I would have preferred a duvet to the blankets provided. We also had a table and chairs and settee. We were met by a porter who took our cases to our room from the car, and was generally very helpful, as were all the staff. There was a problem with the hair dryer in our room in that it was useless. For a hotel of this quality it should provide decent equipment. Hence four stars. The Restaurant gets five stars from me; the food that it serves is wonderful. We shall return, and hope the hairdryers are better!

There are not enough superlatives to do justice to the Gravetye Manor experience. The setting for the Manor House is tucked away in the most gorgeous valley. The charming warm welcome greeting on arrival sets the scene for your visit. You are instantly looked after. The reception team are very attentive. We were most fortunate to be given an upgrade to a most delightful comfortable suite. The ambience of Gravetye is serene and peaceful. The barman was conscientious that our chosen Cocktails were to our taste. The restaurant atmosphere was just perfect no music , serene and tranquil, sheer perfection. The dining experience of the three course menu rapidly transforms to a banquet superbly served by the waiting team. The presentation, the delights that tingle your taste buds each item introduced to you so enjoyable so delicious. An experience of excellence in dining. The next morning breakfast provided more feasting. In our opinion Gravetye Manor provides one of the finest experiences the UK has to offer.

I’m sure this well known hotel and restaurant serves the most incredible food but after my experience last week I won’t be dining there for a special occasion, business lunch, or at any other time. I say this because they seem to have got a bit carried away with themselves to the detriment of customer service. While in the area on a family walk we stopped at the hotel for coffee. Now knowing the establishment’s reputation I didn’t expect this to be particularly cheap but the surroundings are lovely so why not push the boat out I thought? Unfortunately making a enquiry with a staff member who appeared to be floating around in the lobby and doing nothing in particular I was informed that being served coffee was an experience that must be booked in advance! Walk-in trade is unwelcome. Presumably the same applies if you just call in for a G&T? Having enjoyed coffee in the salubrious surroundings of many well known London hotels I found this quite extraordinary. It’s not as if they were busy - indeed the place seemed pretty quiet. Anyway this rather odd policy has lost them my custom, for at least the foreseeable future.

Food and service was perfection. Absolutely faultless. We were offered our after lunch coffee / tea and delicious petit fours in a lovely little sitting room. We had a wander around the grounds (fabulous, especially the walled kitchen garden), preceded by a lovely touch of preemptive service by offering us our umbrellas that we'd left by the door in case it started raining again. Our third visit, a treat from my husband for my birthday, and the experience was better than ever (if that’s possible). I was so delighted by George Blogg’s beautiful hand drawn map of the kitchen garden included with the lunch menu that I asked for a copy to take home. We tried very hard not to over indulge in the wonderful bread ‘trug’ - I thought the accompanying butter, hollowed out and filled with herb oil was a genius idea. I’m a little chary of eating raw seafood which featured in two of the three starters, which left only the tomato, almond & citrus one. This was tasty and light, with the almond element being a sorbet. The halibut main was delicious and looked so attractive with the yellow and green ribbons of courgette. The in between complimentary courses almost stole the show, the little salads showcasing the kitchen garden were a work of art. Our desserts were sublime. I passed on the blackberry crumble soufflé, not being a lover of liquorice (although dipping my spoon into my husband’s made me realise the flavour was not overpowering and actually complemented it rather well). My fennel, peach, yuzu and honey with a honeycomb shaped sesame tuile was unforgettable. The service as ever was of the highest level and the staff seemed more engaging than on previous visits. Sadly the weather prevented us from a wander through the stunning gardens, but the beauty of lunch at Gravetye is the fact that you feel you are dining amongst the grasses and the dahlias anyway. A lovely, uplifting experience.

Our first impressions were positive before our arrival thanks to Sue who followed up with our booking. From the moment we arrived our experience at the Gravetye Manor Restaurant was memorable. We arrived earlier to take advantage of the weather and the stunning gardens surrounding the Manor the highlight being the Kitchen Garden established many years ago. The staff on hand were incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the garden and explained the origins of the wall, which was quarried nearby, and some of the vegetables unfamiliar to us. We wandered back through the gardens to be met by Panainte who looked after us taking us to our table overlooking the garden. This was the beginning of our culinary adventure helped by the wonderful Maria who suggested a few dishes we might enjoy. Taking her advice we sat back for the next two and a half hours to be transported on an incredible culinary journey. The amuse bouche was an indication of what was to follow. Both the lobster and quail starters were sublime as were the main courses of the Duck and Char before we finished off our meal with a Gooseberry Souffle and the Guanaja Dark Chocolate not forgetting the Petit Fours which were inventive and a wonderful way to finish off an unbelievable anniversary lunch. Thanks to all the staff we didn't have an opportunity to meet, namely the chef and kitchen staff, and to those we did, too many to name. Having eaten at numerous Michelin Star restaurants your second star is overdue!!

We came here for my Mums 71st birthday for lunch this weekend and I can not recommend this venue enough. We arrived late due to some horrible congestion on the M25 and unfortunately the cake that was made for her Birthday had fallen over. Gareth (from the front of the house) greeted us when we were walking to the hotel by name and offered to help. (We found out later he had spoken to the pastry chef at the hotel who had fixed the cake for us). A huge thanks to Gareth and the pastry chef for this! When we arrived Gareth passed us to the restaurant staff who were very attentive and welcoming. Florian looked after us, he explained all of the dishes thoroughly to my parents and made sure that we were happy with every moment we were there. The service was outstanding by all of the staff and by Florian. The food was just as incredible, the dishes were just as delicious as they looked. They clearly deserve every award that has been given to them.We loved it so much we’ll be coming back in January for a weekend away with my parents for a Christmas present. This venue is an absolute try, I’d highly recommend it to anyone who is considering staying or dining at the restaurant.

We were very pleased when the restaurant resumed service so we booked a summer menu lunch. Their Covid19 protection arrangements are above and beyond those experienced elsewhere. The food is impeccable, particularly on a lovely summer's day in the air conditioned dining room overlooking the garden. After a delicious rose champagne aperitif we were served the chef's pea based warm amuse bouche. For starters we chose quail with liver and a lobster dish - both excellent. Mains chosen were the lamb loin and a sea bass dishes, again both excellent. Despite the hot day we knew that the souffle would also be excellent and they were. The service was different to take account of the Covid19 restrictions but did not detract from the normal experience. In fact, in some ways, it was better; for example directing you straight to your table for aperitifs and giving diners direct access to their wine rather than the rather outdated 'wait until you are served repeatedly small amounts'. Our Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc was ideal. We finished the experience by having a stroll round the pretty gardens, including their working kitchen garden. It was great to be back.

Birthday celebration and we thought we would push the boat out so where better than Gravetye?Been before and just love the place - everything is just so and the attention to detail is spot on. Food - frankly I have never eaten better anywhere in the world and great value - not cheap of course but hey - if you want cheap what the Hell are you doing here? The best is NEVER cheap?.Gardens looking fab too and we enjoyed a lovely stroll around the grounds - wonder what William Robinson would make of it now?Any complaints? None really but if pushed and I played croquet I would query the lawn....not quite the ticket! But - I came for a meal not a ball game so who cares.

We were excited finally to escape lockdown temporarily and take up the Gravetye invitation to a "luxury Sussex Picnic", which could be enjoyed in their gardens. It was described as follows:"Our Sussex picnic will contain many gorgeous artisan products from Sussex together with items made by Executive Chef George Blogg in our kitchens at Gravetye. The picnic will feature locally smoked fish, charcuterie and cheeses, delicious salads, home baked rolls, scones, jam and clotted cream."There wasn't much evidence of items made in their kitchens, to wit two rolls (very nice); some crisps which might or might not have been made in house; one scone (delicious); home made jam which was so runny I would describe it as a syrup rather than a jam and was impossible to spread - it simply ran all over the place; a rather nasty potato salad with small pieces of hard potato and tasteless dressing. Nor were there any delicious salads, just a few tiny leaves (with no dressing) and three small tomatoes. Everything else could have come out of packets - several meats such as chorizo and pastrami, a tiny piece of smoked salmon, an equally tiny (more like a few flakes actually) portion of hot smoked salmon, some anchovies, caperberries and a couple of sun dried tomatoes. In fact the end result was so salty that I had a raging thirst. There were also small portions of three cheeses, some chutney (actually that might have been home made), biscuits, grapes and celery. In addition there were some very nice chocolates. But it was very disappointing that there were no proper salads and almost nothing that one couldn't pick up in the supermarket. The whole thing was only saved by the beautiful gardens.

Having endured weeks of lockdown, we arranged a two night stay at the Manor. The whole strategy of the staff has been modified very cleverly to work with 2 metre distancing allowing enough closeness to give a personal quality service without the intrusiveness of PPE. The result is as near that previously expected as one could possibly ask for. We felt we were never at any risk. The quality of comfort, food and service is as good as ever.

My wife came here with some girlfriends and raved about it so much we came back with some friends for Saturday lunch. Lovely ambience, very attentive staff, the owner is a warm and friendly presence. Food was amazing, in particular my spicy prawn cocktail starter. My main was a little disappointing but I think I simply chose badly - steak frites, not a great cut. Will choose differently next time. Well worth a visit.
