Botanica is good, in fact its food quality is better than good with some outstanding cooking from a talented team of chefs. The atmosphere is casual, with a lovely outside area that overlooks the downs on nice days. The menu is thoughtful and broken down in to small plates and large plates and is dairy and nut free. Sadly, the menu lacked a good description of the overall concept. If they want to be bold and lead with a dairy and nut free menu that is designed to be sustainable with lower carbon emission, why not shout about it! To have no description or introduction on the menu was a little odd. The open kitchen produced exciting flavors and textures that were well balanced, with perfectly cooked vegetables, fish and meat. Wine, as expected was expensive and service is added to your final bill. The staff here were fairly well trained, although lacked some passion, enthusiasm and warmth. The restaurant is comfortable with well-spaced tables, but didn’t live up to its name Botanica. I expected a wall of growing herbs or some living plants, not the plastic pots that decorated this space. A big plus was the menu is well suited for anyone with allergies including the notorious gluten free, and there are plenty of choices on the menu. Our only gripe was a dish labelled “Day boat” fish on the menu was sadly not as described. The fish served was a Mediterranean farmed Sea bream aka Dorarde Royal, but the chef claimed it was locally caught day boat (meaning wild caught on a small fishing boat). As one of our party works in the fish industry, he was able to confidently identify the fish, which was sadly not day boat wild black bream that is caught in the UK waters. It would have also been nice to know where the lamb and chicken came from. No mention of Organic, free range or a local farm where the lamb came from, which is what one would expect from a restaurant that is all about local and sustainable, and where food miles and production are important. Never the less, this did not distract from the overall high quality of food served, whether it was day boat or not, the fish was bloody tasty and that’s what really mattered. We would certainly go again and overall enjoyed the experience. Ps. Be warned, we took at tiny cake in for a birthday celebration (not to eat) but they were reluctant to bring it out saying they could not handle it if it had dairy and candles were against their no open flames policy. However they did bring out a small plate to say Happy birthday.

What an amazing experience - stunning food in lovely surroundings with such a friendly team! Love the sustainability ethos and learning more about each ingredient, along with the merging of various styles to create some truly brilliant dishes. Loved having the chefs come out to introduce us to dishes, and giving their own stories about what the dishes mean to them. Overall service was out of this world - we were so well looked after!

We were gifted this as a wedding present and enjoyed the tasting menu. Seated right at the windows to the pass, my husband had the perfect view into the kitchens: as an avid foodie this was a dream for him. Monica led a front of house team that were wonderful; attentive, friendly yet professional and bursting with knowledge. The array of glasses for wine and sake and the stunning cutlery were touches I had never seen before. The calm from the kitchen and the total focus from Ben Wilkinson and such a young team of chefs was incredible. However the stand out for me were the wine flights; I had the signature and my husband had the discovery. Wow!! Discovery included 2 sakes and 2 orange wines and I have found probably my favourite wine ever! It was relaxed, comfortable, stimulating, engrossing and stunning- so much more than going out for a meal; a total immersive experience. Well done to the team and thank you. The memories will live long.

As someone who who has been fortunate enough to to experience afternoon tea at The Ritz, The Savoy , Langham’s and more locally Amberley Castle and Bailiffscourt I feel qualified to comment that this was undoubtedly the worst afternoon tea we have ever experienced. The first course was a slice of sausage roll with an indeterminate blob on it alongside a brioche roll with a filling that had such a peculiar taste it’s impossible to describe. The sandwiches were equally tasteless and dry and the scones were disappointing and served with an inadequate amount of jam and cream. The cake selection looked amazing and very tempting. However along with the rest of the experience the taste was a case of style over substance. If you have an extremely sweet tooth they may work for you, but for me they were a sugar rush on steroids. Such a shame as the surroundings were lovely and service was well rehearsed and pleasant. Maybe our expectations were too high but we had anticipated that if all was good we would return to try the Michelin star restaurant. However after wasting £135 on tea there is no chance of us spending our hard earned cash here again

Our club had a Christmas meal here, we were all impressed with the food, the friendly atmosphere and the location. There were 14 of us and we were looked after very well. A brilliant time was had by all and the food was second to none. My gratitude goes to the team that made our meal such a success.

Our first visit and I cannot extoll our gratitude to the manager and his staff more for our visit. From allowing us to park for our dog walk pre-lunch and then breaking rules regarding sausages and finally for not laughing too much when I become tangled up in the dog’s lead and crashed to the floor! After only one IPA I promise. So, to the review. Good well looked after ale. Excellent Cannelloni and club and fish finger sandwiches. Well priced for good quality food. We finished with good coffee and green tea. A charming visit. Thank you.

We were welcomed By very friendly staff who were genuine pleased to see us as customers and not through gritted teeth like some places I’ve been. The pub was warm and inviting with a good range of beers on tap. We opted for the 3 meat Sunday roast. Wow. Huge portion sizes with lovely crispy roast potato’s and veg that was cooked perfectly, not soggy or even a hint of it. Puddings are home made and both the banoffee pie and apple crumble were lovely. Have I mentioned the staff, who were so friendly and helpful? I always count toilets towards a rating and these weee modern, clean, smelt nice and had flowers in them! Will definitely be re-visiting.

Saw an advert on Facebook for Sunday Dinner with "Kids Eat Free" so decided to take advantage, and take the family. My wife, 3 children and grandparents had a fantastic Sunday Roast and look forward to returning in the future. At £20 for 2 courses and £25 for 3 courses, the meal we enjoyed today offered exceptional value for money. Between us, we enjoyed 2 starters (both had smoked salmon), 7 main courses (4 x Roast Beef, 1 x Roast Chicken and 2 x Fish & Chips) and then x6 desserts (a selection of ice cream sundae's, chocolate brownies and cheese and biscuits). Given the quality of the food, and the service too, I would be very pleased to return on a Sunday when the kids meals are to be paid for...... it was that good. We already can't wait to return.
