Saw an advert on Facebook for Sunday Dinner with "Kids Eat Free" so decided to take advantage, and take the family. My wife, 3 children and grandparents had a fantastic Sunday Roast and look forward to returning in the future. At £20 for 2 courses and £25 for 3 courses, the meal we enjoyed today offered exceptional value for money. Between us, we enjoyed 2 starters (both had smoked salmon), 7 main courses (4 x Roast Beef, 1 x Roast Chicken and 2 x Fish & Chips) and then x6 desserts (a selection of ice cream sundae's, chocolate brownies and cheese and biscuits). Given the quality of the food, and the service too, I would be very pleased to return on a Sunday when the kids meals are to be paid for...... it was that good. We already can't wait to return.

Myself, Husband and our Son visited Cisswood House Hotel for lunch today. The food was nice, although the service left lots to desire. Our food arrived in a timely fashion, although then 35 mins after receiving dinner and having finished for 20+ minutes, there was no sign of our plates being collected and the next course being ordered. I went up to the bar to remind them that we were still here. Our plates were soon collected and dessert ordered. Another timely wait for 2 x brownies and a sticky toffee pudding, we were served pudding, exactly 1 hour and 2 minutes after our lunch was served. Trying to keep a 4year old occupied for this amount of time is not pleasurable, the opposite to what a lunch out should be. I also overheard 2 other complaints being made to staff during our visit there. It seems that there were only 2 members of staff to cover the restaurant and the bar area- this isn’t sufficient. I do not recommend here for families with young children, nor if you are looking for a quick lunch (by quick I mean 1.5 hours or less. We were there for 2 hours and I’m glad to be home after our visit)

My wife, older daughter and I wanted to arrange a surprise 40th birthday party for our younger daughter/sister. We visited several places but Cisswood House was by far the friendliest and most helpful on our preliminary visit. Nicky the events manager was first class from beginning to end and helped plan the perfect celebration. On the day everything was ready and waiting as we wanted and the room looked fantastic. To top it all the food was plentiful and of very high quality and we got exceptional value for money. The staff were a true team and every one of them helped to make our daughters surprise occasion very special indeed. All in all highly recommended. We stayed over too and the rooms and breakfast were great. So five stars all round from us. Thank you.

We went to this establishment hopeful of a pleasant Christmas meal, but the reality of the situation soon became apparent. The ineptitude of the staff was matched by the quality of the food which was sad. The only thing that was of a high quality was the cost. I was very disappointed and would never dream of going back

Restaurant service: while the servers smiled sweetly and tried hard, they were totally untrained for their jobs. They took orders for items the kitchen did not have and didn’t realize it till the food was being served. Every time we asked for some variation to the menu, eg. Chips with a pie instead of boiled potatoes, it was “I’ll have to ask the kitchen” and they never communicated they answer although we did get chips. They also got the bill wrong. The following morning at the breakfast buffet the food was good but the staff who were standing around had to be reminded to refill empty items. Food Quality; My onion soup was tasteless, so thick it was almost a jelly and missing cheese/toast common with traditional onion soup. The meat in my pie was tough and gristly. Obviously from a poor quality cut. Others in the group had fried cod which they told me was “The worst they had ever eaten”.

I stayed at this hotel for a wedding. we had a large group of family and friends at the hotel. We changed room 3 times. The 1st one had a nasty smell, the 2nd one had the central heating radiator on with the temperature 27Deg C outside. our 3rd room was just about ok but I have taken pictures of the stained ceilings and frayed bottoms of the beds. I didnt sleep well as the bed frame creaked very badly. the beds were about the cheapest you could buy. I understood from other guests that several of them had problems with their wc's but nothing was done to fix them. I had a meeting with the Duty Manager who was extremely patronising and pretty offensive. i was informed that obviously my expectations of the Hotel were more than they provided. Amazing as on their website it states that this hotel is "deemed as one of Endland's most prestigious country house hotels and it is stunning!! the hotel is dark, dingy and needs some of the rooms and the communal parts refurbished and redecorated. by reception there are a few chairs to sit ion all of which look like they could do with a good clean or replacing. My son and his wife stayed one night and when they got to their room at midnight the beds were unmade and they had been given a key to their allocated room with other people's stuff in it. they were given another room and the beds weren't made. Other guests kept on using Fawlty Towers.

My wife and I stayed here last weekend. The room somewhat small but very cosy. In the evening we ate from the set menu, the beef fillet main course was outrageously good and perfectly cooked. My wife had the chicken main which she said was a wild yet perfect combination of flavours. For dessert we both had the passion fruit tart which was the icing on the cake. Staff were very friendly and informative, will definitely recommend for future

We visited Cisswood House on a groupon deal for a spar and treatments; We had a couple of hours first in the hot tub, gym, pool and Sauna which was lovely and very relaxing which is what we needed. The building has a beautiful original part and a new hotel which isn’t that pretty added to the back. The team team had great as we had booked and had to cancel a few times due to hospital this is also part of the reason for such a good score too. The treatments I was a little disappointed as I got a head and shoulder massage and facial but it was more like a gentle stroke it was relaxing but wouldn’t have really called it reflexology, massage etc. My partner described his treatment as much more intensive and deeper. So I have reduced the score by one. The staff where all amazing, lovely and engaging. Tom is the bar is the hidden gem of this place a polite and very helpful man and did his best to ensure all guest where happy and cared for. As the place looked nice we decided to stay for a three course Sunday lunch at £25 per head. Starter Ham hock Terrine, which was lovely but had a very overpowering home made chutney all over it, would have been better on the side or in a small dish but still amazing tastes. We both went for beef and again three huge slices, nice roast potatoes and veg, it came with cauliflower cheese (didn’t say this on the menu but I’m allergic to cheese) however it was in a side dish so the kitchen very kindly and with no fuss swapped for a couple of extra roasties, a good swap in my book. The food was beautiful but slightly over salted and I’ve seen other comments to that too, luckily I hand not seasoned the food before eating it so it was fine but they should reduce the salt in their prep. The pudding, was sticky toffee and butterscotch sauce with clotted cream but sadly was served with ice cream instead but was still lovely. All in all was a beautiful day, in a beautiful setting, with great staff and food above average and if it wasn’t for slightly too salty and bits mentioned as well as both treatments not being the same we would have easily given 5 stars. We will go back and will probably boom one of the entertainment nights which look fun and t only £49 for a meal and act and then a dance at the end for to be worth a visit.

For the £185 price tag for one night I would have expected breakfast to be included but accept I should have checked that at booking. However breakfast at nearly £19 a head Is taking advantage of a captive audience. For £185 a night I do expect to have complimentary water in the room, a working shower and decent toilet paper other than the very cheap hard single ply that we had! The hotel itself looks very dated, tired and the furnishings are rather worn and shoddy. The only good thing I can say is that room was clean and a good size and the bed was comfortable.

Hotel is rather tired looking and doesn't have much atmosphere. However staff are very friendly especially reception staff and Tom in dining room. Quality of food was pretty poor for a hotel of this size and menu a bit like pub grub. Both nights we ate here dining room was virtually empty but only 3 tables on our second night were used and our order was wrong which meant my husbands food was sent back and not ready until I had finished mine! So felt like we both ate alone. We were not impressed. Looks a very grand place from the outside but I definately would not recommend.

Hotel restaurants often seem to be a disappointment so I was not expecting much. I was very pleasantly surprised by an interesting menu and even more surprised by the quality of the food. I had only planned to eat on the first night of my stay but wanted to sample more so ate on both nights. The portions are generous and the food was prepared with skill. I could only manage 2 courses on the first night from a reasonably priced set 2 or 3 course menu.

Even off menu requests were accommodated, which we all really appreciated. At breakfast there were a couple of blips but the hotel were very professional and accommodating and resolved it for us. No apetecible.

Lovely gym & adequate size pool which was lovely & warm, also hot tub & steam room, breakfast was of a good standard & service good , lovely gardens with tables & chairs which was ideal during early evening, plenty of room for children to let off steam too. Didn't eat here during the evening as we walked to a nearby pub but others said it was good. Stayed at Cisswood House last night on business and find nothing has changed at the place since my first visit many, many years ago, and to be honest I can see no reason to return. While the staff were friendly and the place is clean, there was zero atmosphere - I mean like a vacuum - at dinner or breakfast. The room number signage for my room was all out of whack and took a while to find. The bed, which was meant to be a double (I booked an executive double) was in fact two singles pushed together. Not a problem you would think but with a folded blanket under the sheets down the centre of the bed - I guess to fill the gap, it was just bizarre and so uncomfortable. Breakfast was ok, but came complete with Christmas music, yes in March! So there you have it, my rating of Cisswood House is 'distinctly average', a great shame because it could be so nice given the building and location. Won't be rushing back.

My husband & I stayed here a few weeks ago for a murder mystery weekend. The hotel is perfect for this purpose & our stay was amazing. Staff were great, nothing was too much trouble. We had decided to stay an extra night to enjoy the spa facilities. To start with our room was far better than I expected. Because it was my birthday my husband splashed out on a 4 poster room. We stayed in room 30, which is a massive room with an incredibly comfy bed & a lovely ensuite with bath & shower, which has great water pressure. The first evening we decided to eat in the restaurant. Because I'm fussy I had the old failsafe of fish & chips & hubby had steak. The portion sizes are massive. If anything too much. I couldn't eat even half of what was on my plate but it was truly delicious, as was the steak. The next morning we were treated to a fantastic breakfast which I cannot fault. A few hours later I had a quick swim in the pool & hot tub followed by a very nice massage. During the afternoon & late into the evening we had the murder mystery & were treated again & again to wonderful food. If you are thinking of attending one of these events I highly recommend it. Or if you just want a nice relaxing weekend away & perhaps a few spa treatments then this is definitely the hotel for you.

We went along to the Murder Mystery evening on New Year Eve's and think we were lucky - reading other people's reviews on here. We had a nice meal which we pre-ordered about 3 weeks before. Our room was okay - but as others have commented on, the radiator was on full and the room was like an oven. We had to turn it right off and open the two windows in an effort to cool the room down to have any chance of sleeping. The room was fine and seemed clean, but there was only one packet of biscuits and no tissues. It was a long way down a lot of passages - the hotel appeared to have had some random extensions added on at all different times - which makes it a bit of a maze. The advertised spa was closed when we arrived, so no swim for us. We were told we could use it between 9am and 10am in the morning, but that was also the allocated time for breakfast. As the whole hotel was used exclusively for the Murder Mystery package on NYE, the staff were able to keep everything running okay as all guests were in the same place at the same time. We had no complains about the food and the service was efficient and staff polite. The Murder Mystery was staged by The Killing Game rather than the hotel - which was just the host venue. That bit was a lot of fun, followed by a disco. The DJ did the countdown to the New Year 2 minutes early, but I guess that didn't really matter.Overall, you get the feeling that this hotel needs a good refurbishment and perhaps some better management. It has potential but looks very tired at the moment and customer service is clearly very hit and miss.Although our experience wasn't too bad, we don't feel inclined to go back there again. Shame really.....

We ate at the restaurant on Christmas day, we booked 4 weeks before and having seen the menu we were very much looking forward to our lunch here. When we arrived we received a warm welcome and were invited into the lounge for a glass of Champagne. We were soon advised that our pre reservation food choices were not available due to a computer malfunction. We advised that we had a Gluten Free person in our party, we were then advised that our meal choice was Turkey or Nut roast, this did not reflect the extensive menu as advertised, which was disappointing. We were than escorted into the dining room, we carried our own drinks of course. Our table whilst decorated nicely was a trellis table and our party of four had to then adjust ourselves to sit at the table without hitting our knee's on a leg. The food then started to arrive, we each needed to assist the waitress in situating the food on the table due to the limited space. From the first course to the last, the food was disgusting apart from the soup which at least I enjoyed. The food was not fresh and looked as though it had been prepared well in advance, possibly the day before ??. This was our special day, my partners Sister had come over from New York and my young daughter said at the end of the meal, Daddy I thought this was going to a special meal. When we arrived home I had to feed my daughter with something edible. We were so disappointed not just because we had paid approximately £100 per person but this was our Christmas day celebration. Two days later I wrote an email advising the hotel of our experience on their web site with no response. If I had paid £5 a head I would still be disappointed, I will never eat at this restaurant again until a drastic change is made.

To be honest, I'd rate the hotel between "very good" and "excellent", but didn't want to give it a full "excellent" rating as there are a few tiddly issues we brought to the hotel's attention. Generally the stay was lovely. Our first visit to this area. First impressions of the hotel were good - a plentiful free car park which was easy to access and find.Walking into the hotel, it was warm and welcoming, and the receptionists were friendly and efficient. I wish they had mentioned then that the spa was going to close earlier as it was New Year's Eve, like they had a notice on the counter about the revised breakfast times for New Year's Day. Luckily I managed to get there with 30 minutes to go, so got a short swim in. The pool is small but sufficient for a hotel of this size. There was also a large hot tub and sauna but I didn't get time to use them. Because I was rushed (knowing I only had 30 minutes) I didn't get time to dry my hair there and needed to do that in my room, which highlighted the problem of a lack of mirrors! There was one in the bathroom, but not with a normal socket of course. Our friends didn't have this issue in their rooms, with sufficient mirrors. An issue which could easily be resolved in our room, which appeared fairly newly decorated. The decor was lovely, and the bed enormous (and comfy). Crisp, clean sheets and nice furniture. Nice tea selection (no tissues, biscuits or water though - which would be a nice touch to warrant the excellent rating). (Our friends did have tissues and biscuits and when I mentioned this on check-out they said we should have had them.). The TV was good and Hotel book informative. Free Wi-Fi which was easily accessible, was useful, and we experienced good service although the signal wasn't strong. Our 3 course meal was very pleasant and the service excellent by all involved. Thank you. It made for a very pleasant evening, including the DJ that helped welcome in the New Year. The next morning the breakfast on offer was plentiful, varied, nicely set-out and very nice. They kept the same table structure which made for easy dining as guests resumed their same seats from the night before - so no chaos and dramas. Breakfast easily finished before the 11am check-out time.I mentioned the points for improvement to the hotel and they were interested and said they would be able to do something about them, so thanked me for telling them. Unfortunately the signal for their credit card machine let them down and a big queue appeared of patient guests waiting to check out. I hope this is something they can overcome too. If in the area again we would definitely return.

My mum, sister and I visit every year or so for a relaxing day spa and afternoon tea break, as this hotel is central to all of us. We have never had a poor visit. Staff are courteous and knowledgeable, hotel is pretty and cosy. Food is very good. Open fires are lovely. Always ask if there is a wedding on when you book as that can detract from the atmosphere. Otherwise, a consistently good visit and service. We always leave feeling relaxed!

My husband's works Christmas Do was arranged at the Cisswood House Hotel. We booked a room so that we could take advantage of the spa facilities and chill out for the afternoon before the evening dinner dance. Really good facilities and very relaxing. Room was lovely, nice size, clean and bed was comfy. Lovely setting in the old building and grounds are really nice for a stroll around if you fancy.Evening do was very well organised, food was nice considering it was mass catering. Only thing no wine included in the price so we ordered this on the way in. DJ was good but put in a few random songs which cleared the dance floor but he was happy to take requests. Only downside of the stay was that it was very hot, due to the mild winter we are having I don't think the radiators needed to be up so high. All in all would recommend, friendly staff and good facilities.

Staying two nights on business. The welcome was friendly and my bags were carried up to my room - a welcome service as I did not see a lift anywhere in this older part of the hotel. The room was very large with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was also big and well equipped. The occasional loud gurgling noise from the water system were startling. No air-conditioning, which for most of this summer wouldn't have been a problem but it was 27 degrees and air-less in the room. I finally found a little fan tucked into the bottom of a wardrobe - much better! The main complaint about the room was that it needed a lot of TLC expended to bring it up to modern standards. The paintwork was chipped and in need of re-doing; the furniture was from the 1960 / 70's ( and not in a good way); the bathroom floor had not been cleaned before my arrival as it still had footprints on the tiles that had not been washed off; the lighting was very shabby with the pull switches ragged. Sounds like small things but no excuse for a dirty bathroom floor and marks on furniture and inside of wardrobes. It all adds up to a sad room! This hotel was a good price for the area, had friendly staff but it conveyed a feeling of an uncaring ownership. These days - just not good enough. I won't be staying again.

In need of a little me time before the impending arrival of my baby I booked into Cisswood House for an overnight break. When I called to enquire the person I spoke to was friendly and ensured I got the best price available for my requirements. This was without me asking and very refreshing. Hotel itself is charming and my room was spacious and had everything in it that I needed. I slept beautifully for the first time in a long time (with a 15 month old at home you can see why!). It was so peaceful. The tea/coffee/biscuits provided were lovely and I was really impressed that decaf tea was available. The shower was powerful as well which was a huge bonus as so often the pressure is low in hotels. When I arrived the TV was on in my room and the remote wouldn't work to turn it off so a quick call to reception and I was provided with a working remote within minutes. The customer service was excellent throughout including reception, the restaurant and bar, the gym facilities and the spa (Stacey). I ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel and both were delicious.I used the pool and jacuzzi and found it very clean and the changing room was to a high standard. I also had a pregnancy massage and manicure at the spa and feel totally relaxed as a result. All round brilliant stay and would love to return at some point. Thanks Cisswood House.

We stayed a Cisswood house as part of a wedding and we weren't disappointed. The ceremony was held in the stunning grounds and it was absolutely beautiful. The staff couldn't do enough for us and No matter what time of day they were asked something they were extremely professional and polite. The evening meals were superb, beautifully present and tasted superb. We stayed over after the wedding and the rooms were spacious enough and clean, my only criticism is that the room was a little tired looking and the curtains weren't hung neatly (that sounds really picky I know but they didn't sit right on the rail and sagged slightly which made the room look tired). The bathrooms were extremely clean and the shower was a power shower. The breakfast the following day was buffet style for the wedding party and it was superb, we couldn't have asked for anything more than they provided and I would highly recommend this venue for either a wedding or a weekend stay as it was delightful.

Disappointing to see this place for the worse. It used to be you could get a reasonably priced lunch or afternoon tea where the food and price were inline with a reasonable expectation. Prices were good, good was reasonable, happy customers.Recently a massive price hike and WORSE not better service and food leaves a bitter taste, this can not be considered a step in the right direction by any measure.Gone is all the quant china and teacups, mismatching cups, generous scones and cream and a fair complement of sandwiches. Now about £20 per head buys you tea in vanilla cups, a stainless teapot, a tired cake stand with a terribly small compliment of sandwiches (just 3 small fingers per person!), lame (and small scones), weird runny jam and a bizarre and not that great selection of cakes. If you want to charge more, sure - but ensure the service doesn't also go backwards too, this is a no no.Maybe a small increase in price while maintaining the same level of quality as before would have been acceptable.Instead, standards dropped, prices hiked up through the roof.2 people, a tiny afternoon tea of about 5 modest bites of sandwich will cost you £40, for that you can get a decent meal say at an Indian restaurant or spend a little more but get a massively better lunch nearby.Misses the mark by overcharging and under-delivering. Hope this gets resolved or I imagine this venue will never recover from the amount of people this poor combination will drive away.

Starters were fine my smoked salmon was nice enough although there is not much you can do wrong with this and my wife's soup of sweet corn and bacon fine also. The mains were a little disappointing my fish of brill and smoked chicken was really quite small and the other dish of roast beef my wife felt the slices were very thin.Puddings were ok there was also cheese option, which was nice, plus coffee and chocolates.Quality of food was fine but a bit sparse and also feel the price tag was because it was Mother's day and was a bit steep! Service was good although most of the waiting staff are young and one didn't know the difference between beers/ales and lagers which was a little disappointing especially in an establishment of this standing.

I stayed at the Cisswood House hotel for one night at the weekend as we were attending a function. The hotel itself is fine. The room was quite basic, nothing special. We were given a discount rate apparently, but had i paid full price i would certainly have complained. The door to my room was rather strange. It needed an actual key to lock and unlock it. I noted on other rooms elsewhere in the hotel that they had keycards. In the event of an emergency getting in and out out a locked door might prove hazardous. At the event the food was quite good i have to say. The bar staff though were rather slow and needed prodding. Not all of them i hasten to add, but most. One particular girl was rather poor. I bought a bottle of Prosecco and gave a £5 tip (as i hadn't tipped on previous visits to the bar). She didn't even thank me or crack a smile. Then she gave me a bottle that hasn't been chilled. I had to ask for an ice bucket that she simply put water in. I had to prompt her to put ice in it. Then she didn't even bother to ask me if i neeed glasses. All this AFTER i had already given her a tip. I wish i hadn't bothered giving a tip. They just seemed out of their depth.Breakfast in the morning was ok. I didn't see any croissants etc but it was ok. So it wasn't bad as such, just a few gripes, but i wouldn't recommend it.

I have been visiting this hotel for a bar lunch with friends on a regular basis over the past 18 months. On the first couple of occasions the food was good and exactly as expected from a bar lunch - a selection of sandwiches, omelettes and burgers with various side dishes. Then for some reason the food went downhill with soggy undercooked chips, what looked like very cheap tuna in the sandwiches and ingredients missing from those advertised in the veggie burger on the menu. Today we gave it one last chance and I have to say that the standards seem to have returned to those I experienced on my first few visits. I had a huge omelette which was served with lovely crispy chips and a salad. The portion was so big I couldn't eat it all. One of my friends had a salmon baguette which again was stuffed full with salmon and another asked for a sandwich with a filling not on the menu which was readily provided. The service today by Brandon? was very welcoming and friendly as it has been on all our visits although sometimes in the bar you have to wait quite a while for the appearance of any member of staff. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed with a cosy fire in the winter and lovely gardens to sit in during the summer as we did today. The bar lunch is not expensive, a couple of soft drinks, a meal and coffee for less than £15 a head. I consider that to be good value and thanks to today's experience we will return.

Oh dear; haven’t been here for over ten years and it hasn’t improved. In fact I believe it has deteriorated. The table reserved was set for the wrong number which didn’t inspire confidence. The previous narrow apero area along has been knocked into the main dining room to enlarge it, in fact the restaurant is now huge. It used to be intimate; no more, the atmosphere is sterile. Ordering the main courses as sat outside having our apero and only on a Thursday evening, some of the dishes were off for the rest of the week. What’s going on here? – they take infrequent deliveries and live out of the freezer – it makes you wonder. The wine waiter needs some basic training. You don’t, with 6 people at table, start filling the red wine glasses to the brim; the bottle will not stretch and, in any case, you put no more than a third of a glass out to let the wine air. The wine list is short and unimpressive. The menu is good enough (that which is still available) but disappoints on delivery. The smoked salmon was the exception; excellent though the salad bed was uninspiring. Main course duck was awful, soggy skin not crisped placed downwards on the plate in ‘gravy’ made the skin inedible. My thai vegetarian curry seems to consist solely of potato and rice. We made our excuses and went after the main course; we’d endured quite enough. This was a special occasion for us - sorry, it was ruined

We had pre ordered, and for the ones joining us, the maitre'd sought us out and collected our order so we could be served together. The food was beautiful, we had an afternoon tea, lovely fresh sandwiches, little brownies, cake, and a scone that tasted freshly baked and warm with some delicious strawberry jam and clotted cream. This was a very reasonable £12.50 and included a selection of hot drinks. Do not assume this will be an overpriced, pompous place, its very cosy, homely and welcoming and just the ticket for a girly get together or a lovely romantic meal. The finishing touches to the tables were gorgeous, the service attentive without being intrusive and I'd definitely recommend coming here.

My husband, myself, and our young toddler stayed at the hotel for a few days, (hotel review is separately dealt with) and used the restaurant twice during our stay as paying guests as we had no meal plan included in our stay. Both times we ordered from the lounge menu. The food was actually very good bordering on excellent, though it was only "sandwiches" we had, everything was fresh, delicious and well presented. The hand cut chips are particularly tasty and great value for money. The atmosphere is quiet and elegant; the gorgeous gardens provided a serene and beautiful backdrop to our meal. The staff were excellent, which surprised me as there were many 'young lads' on the serving staff who I expected would be lackadaisical, or rough around the edges, but in fact they were very professional and polite, and took the trouble to go the extra mile for me when I needed it. I was impressed by all the staff. The value for money side of things was where I had mixed feelings. You can order a sandwich of ciabatta or baguette for £7.50 (if I remember rightly) with a choice of fillings, and you get a huge sandwich which one person may well struggle to eat. By contrast the vegetarian burger is a seeded burger bun with a slice of grilled goat's cheese and roasted pepper, at £10.95 (again, I think) even taking into account the chips on the side, this is far worse value than the cheaper, larger, and better sandwich. I also think the seeded burger bun is a little McDonald's-esque and doesn't really fit in with my ideas of fine dining. One other negative was that I had a hot chocolate which had no discernible taste of chocolate whatsoever and was really not nice. In all fairness I was offered a replacement, which I declined, and then I was offered a complimentary drink of my choice. So although the hot chocolate was undrinkable the service was faultless. In general, though some of the food was slightly overpriced, I will certainly revisit the restaurant if I stay here again.

It is disappointing to arrive at a restaurant for your booked table to have it pointed out to you from across the room. Is it really too much to ask to be shown to your table? When we asked what the soup of the day was, the waitress replied "I have no idea" - she did make a joke of it but really how can she not know that? After placing our orders we realised that everyone else had bread except us so we asked the waitress for some - the response was " Didn't you get any?" ....When the bread did arrive there were 3 rolls in a basket reminiscent of the 1970s and 3 small triangles of butter. The starters arrived - presentation uninspiring to say the least - duck liver pate - not a bit of greenery in sight. The Caesar salad was similarly underwhelming. The soup - cream of broccoli - was fine. It would have been nice to have a bit more bread with the soup but the basket had been whisked away with no offer of any more for the soup. The lamb main course was on the small side while the beef and horseradish burger tasted just like a regular beef burger. At no point in the evening did anyone ask " how was the starter?" or " how was the food?". The whole air was one of apathy from the staff. They were going through the motions but showed little or no interest in us as customers. We did attempt to give a tip while paying the bill at the end ( why I don't know) but the server said she didn't know how to do it on the machine so we left it at that. Tables which had had guests sat uncleared for the whole of the meal - not something you want to look at while eating. Save your money and go into Horsham to one of the chains - at least they have decent service - or go to one of the "foodie pubs" like The Lamb at Rusper. As we left there was someone who looked like a Manager rearranging tables but he didn't look up as we left so no surprise there then. This was an evening for an anniversary meal - food would have been acceptable if backed up by some interest from the staff. All it left was a bad taste in our mouths!

Scruffy interior - not clean. We ordered lunch and sat outside. Was given a box of cutlery condiments with various sauces to carry to our table outside. , the dispenser lid of the mustard was black with ancient sticky dried on mustard and dirt. i told the one member of staff who apologised, took it away, threw it in the bin behind the bar, but did not replace . No salt or pepper. Waited nearly an hour to be served.. food was dumped on our table with no apology. My sea bass was served swimming in oil. No waiting on tables ourside so not easy to complain after such a long wait. Moved inside as we were cold and asked for a coffee - the same one member of staff who was behind the bar as well as serving food, looked shocked and seemed nervous of such a request but agreed to try to make us one coffee and one tea but then came to our table o say she couldn't work the machine - so no hot drinks!! We left and will not be returning.i regretted paying up front for such a poorly cooked and presented and delayed lunch.
