The atmosphere was welcoming warm and friendly. The menu was designed to suit everyone’s taste. We both had Stilton and broccoli soup which was very tasty and sufficient as a starter. The haddock and triple cooked chips were devine. The batter was light and tasty. The whole meal was superb and well priced. Sadly the heavens opened, but the bar manager went the extra mile by driving us back to our hotel in the village. What more could you ask for? British hospitality at its best. We certainly didn’t expect such kindness and compassion. Thank you SO much.

Very unhelpful with my gluten free / celiac partner. Not a single thing could be even adjusted slightly because honestly I think they couldn’t be bothered. We felt very unwanted and unwelcome, which was such a shame as the garden was lovely. Lots of pubs around much more accommodating.

The White Horse was the chosen venue for our party of 7 golfers visiting West Sussex GC as it was also Goodwood’s summer horse race meeting and many restaurants and pubs in the area had been booked months in advance. The Gales beer (£5.40) was well kept and just what was needed on a warm evening.as we sat in the small rear garden. There was no wine list but Malbec (£29.95) and San Felipe Chardonnay (£31.95) proved eminently drinkable for our party. We had a large table inside which was comfortable and well-positioned. Starters arrived promptly with salmon and cucumber mousse (£7.95) proving the most popular. Then there must have been a meltdown in the kitchen as our main courses did not arrive until at least 40 mins later. Lots of apologies but not even a bottle of wine offered in compensation. Battered haddock and chips (£15.95) were served hot but vastly over-chipped and under-fished. Cottage pie (£13.95) and the (misspelt) Beef Bourguignon (£15.95) proved better choices. The staff tried hard but it was not a pub with grub that we could recommend.

The pub was delightful and couldn’t do more for us. We were meeting up as a family as I am over from overseas. They went out of their way to cater for my elderly parents. We had dinner here last night and it was such a lovely experience. All staff were so accommodating even whilst they had some large tables in. The menu was packed full of different dishes and we were served some of the best food we've had in a while. The chef even made us some homemade sour cream to go with our chilli dish. 5 stars all round. We will be back.

I took my son and daughter in law from London for dinner last evening having had lunch here on another occasion. The gentleman who served us as before was absolutely charming and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble, so welcoming. The food here is amazing, the pub was extremely busy with large tables booked but every attention to detail and customer care was obviously priority. Found this pub as we were driving from Brighton back to Bristol. It was 2pm on a Monday. They had a big specials board. The food was fantastic. We had been eating out in Brighton but the lunch we had here was the best food we had all trip. I had belly pork, not a dish you can cook and reheat. It was perfect. My partner had fresh salmon, again really excellent cooking. Lovely service, and great value. Cannot recommend this place tooo highly.

We live on the Isle of Man, and wish we had pubs like this. Picturesque, traditional, great food - what's not to like? Service was efficient and friendly, and the food was of good quality. The only niggle was when we ordered a gin and tonic, and the glass arrived with the whole bottle of tonic already poured in. To my mind the tonic should be for the customer to pour, according to taste. We pointed this out, and were not charged for the tonic. A very pleasant evening with family and friends.

Young lady behind the bar was very polite, efficent and friendly The Guinness was as good as it gets Nice comfortable atmosphere in the bar area Outside there's a decent size garden with plenty of seating to sit and enjoy the weather Although we didn't have time to sample the food the menu looked reasonably priced with plenty of choices They also have a specials board. We are both looking forward to a return visit to enjoy the cold Guinness and to sample some of the food. Thanks to Jack Atherton for the recommendation and we also enjoyed the company Cheers.

Staff unaware of what was in dishes - at least in mine. I asked for a camomile tea after the meal, no camomile - would I like peppermint. I gave a reluctant ok but what I received was probably green tea. Definitely not peppermint. They ran out of sea bass although we were there fairly early (7 Pm). We had a very disappointing lunch here with friends. The Burrata I ordered as a starter apparently ‘exploded’ when taken out of the fridge and it was the only one. There was no fish pie, a choice of 2 only desserts one was a fudge cake & there was only I left, the other was a Victoria sponge which actually isn’t a dessert & finally the coffee machine wasn’t working. The staff were very pleasant but it all looked very tired especially the loos. All in all it was very disappointing and we won’t be back.

OK for a drink but not for lunch. £25 for starter and main so you're talking restaurant prices for frozen scampi or an average burger with an excess of chips/fries to cover for the fact there's no other accompaniments. Long waits for food and not asked if we enjoyed it as perhaps they know it's overpriced. For comparison you can get 2 top notch courses from an award winning chef for £28 at the Parsons Table in Arundel. Nice cosy pub for a few drinks though.

Disappointed as we have been here before and really enjoyed fish and chips and game pies. Visited today for Sunday lunch. Roast beef was very rare, hardly cooked and cold, parsnips hard, undercooked, and cold no Yorkshire’s. Potatoes some were ok but mostly dried out. This pub accommodated us brilliantly. 9 adults? 5 dogs and a baby in a pram. The food was very good, fresh and the Sunday roast was especially lovely. We arrived and were offered drinks and asked for some water. No glasses arrived for the water however. We waited a long time for our food but when it arrived it was all hot and lovely. We had one bowl of veg for 4 roast dinners which was nowhere near enough and nothing to serve it with. All in all a nice meal but just some minor tweaks needed to make it perfect.

Went here for a family meal with our elderly parents . To sum up 2 hour wait for food, offered 1 round of drinks during this time, asked for water on the table and received 1 carafe for 6 of us and 20 miutes later 4 glasses. When asking about our food staff continuously said 10 minutes. No one appeared to care or be managing the kitchen. My parents are in their nineties and had they eaten that morning we would have left but kept being promised food in 5 to 10 minutes. We ate lunch at 3.30pm, food was dry and average (3 roasts and 3 burgers so shouldn't really be too difficult). Locals collecting take aways appeared more of a priority.

Went with my mother in law (you know how they are ) and daughter and wife. Well the service to start with wasn't the greatest. No table service had to keep going to the bar for drinks. Had to chase staff to order food. Waited 1 hour 30 mins to check on food. Kept getting told 10 mins. Obviously working on Egyptian time. Nearly 2 hours later my 2.5 year old has still not eaten. So the bar man possibly owner was very rude and just tutted at me for possibly asking when our food would arrive. Not a mice man too busy drinking than dealing with customers. Problems. The serving staff were told to say this and that. If I had been a regular it would of been different as their food was arriving half hour before ours. DO NOT EAT here.

We found the service here to to be quite disappointing. we arrived at 12:15 for lunch and were shown to a table. The pub wasn’t busy, maybe 2-3 other tables were taken up. No one brought us over any menus so after 25 minutes we asked for them. 30 minutes later we had to ask if we could order some food. 45 minutes later the food arrived. We then had to ask the bill which took 25 mins to come, and the card machine another 15 minutes. At no point during our time there did anyone ask if we wanted another drink or if everything was ok - we had to call out for the waiter for literally everything! Didn’t feel like they wanted our business so won’t go back.

Oh Dear! What has happened here? Went with a group of friends for Lunch which we had done earlier in the year when we had a superb meal . The menu was imaginative, food well cooked and presented and we were expecting a similar experience BUT the menu now presented was a great disappointment. No starters on offer , a very basic menu with little choice of dishes requiring no skill to produce . Three specials which were not special-more basics . What we had was OK and the service was pleasant and helpful but we will not return unless a more interesting menu does. The choice in Henfield is becoming more and more limited.

It was a cold day and we visited for a cup of coffee and to see the recently opened pub. The lovely open fire was unlit and there was no atmosphere. For an old pub the decor was not suited to this lovely village pub. Another couple came in and asked for mulled wine, however the pub had none! So December, no fire lit, no mulled wine and staff that were not very engaging. We looked at the food menu and we felt over priced. I’m not surprised it’s closed. Hopefully it will re-open soon with someone with a better strategy.
