The best restaurants serving British food in Hendon Sunderland North East

Had lunch today and it was fantastic. The portion sizes are huge and the food is extremely tasty. We ordered a chicken parmo baguette and a cowboy burger. The photographs speak for themselves. Staff are super friendly and this really is a hidden gem.

The toastie was very nice, the crisps were very nice, the toastie were very big and nice, and the staff were nice

Please hire more staff for the weekend because it is very busy, and there is a long wait for the order to be taken

Booked for my son's birthday for Sunday lunch. Absolutely beautiful food! Pink beef and belly pork 10/10 and I had rubarb crumble and custard and it was delicious! Great portions and the staff are lovely. Definitely recommend we will be back.

If the smell of pure fish on way in isn't off putting the dated furnishings and wooden chairs isn't appealing I got the skins and could smell the dirty oil on them and taste it I the has the pasta that wasn't to bad and then a coffee which didn't drink tasted like filtered coffee thats been used over and over had something floating at the top too compared to bolden venue it's run down and food is not what I thought it be at all wouldn't return to this one again

vine para una comida previa al show con la familia. Pedí la lasaña que estaba claramente en el microondas, ya que la temperatura no era consistente en todo. El aderezo para ensaladas que vino con él debe haber tenido una botella entera de ensalada en crema mezclado con él, era vil. Uno de los miembros del personal, el joven, parecía ser el único que se preocupaba por estar allí, ya que los demás simplemente se quedaban charlando sin hacer nada. Una cosa a considerar es tal vez poner un poco de sal y pimienta en la mesa porque eso puede haber hecho mi comida más llevadera. Para terminar en un positivo es sí parece un lugar encantador y estoy seguro de que está zumbando en una noche, pero simplemente no fue el mejor esta vez :) .

I liked this place. It’s a local, independent business and I recurved a friendly welcome. Plenty of seating. I had a good coffee. Food (Sandwiches, cakes, etc.) is also available but I didn’t eat.

Nice food but terrible delivery service first delivery car broke down so arrived in taxis . Second one food was late because it was dropped on floor and went all over Thought third time lucky but no one hour 30 mins last chance every time over 90mins to deliver

One of my favourite Wetherspoons pubs. Been going there since it opened in 1997. Still keep going back.

The app stated the food had been delivered which it had not. I called the restaurant whose mailbox was full. Waited and 10 minutes later the driver turns up with the food with no explanation as to why the food was marked as being delivered 15 minutes previously. The food was cold. Very disappointing. Will not order from here again.

Horrible place, terrible experience, especially if you are not from the area. Horrible staff. Not recommended!!! Avoid this place at any costs. We went there yesterday with my boyfriend and wanted to stay a short time, have some drinks, listen to the music and go home. We went to the second floor. All the time we were having fun calmly, just sitting next to the DJ booth and enjoying the evening. We danced a bit on our own, not interacting with anyone, just enjoying the night. Then my boyfriend went to smoke a last cigarette to the balcony, right before the upper floor was going to shut down. I followed him literally for 20 seconds to tell him to hurry up, and then I came back and saw that our jackets were taken. They were not on the sofa next to the DJ booth where we left them. We started to look for the jackets immediately. All the people started to leave as the lights were already on and the music stopped. We started asking everyone if they have seen something and the DJ and some of the attendees confirmed that they saw one of the staff members taking our jackets downstairs. Then we were talking to ALL the staff members and asking for help. We were acting calmly and we explained our situation thoroughly to everyone. Many of the staff members were pretending they do know nothing about it and were not willing to help much. They claimed that it’s a typical situation and there is a low chance to get the jackets back. They mentioned that the best if we come in the morning. We kept looking for the jackets everywhere and trying to speak with the staff members. We told them that it’s crucial for us to have the jackets back as even our home key was inside of one of the pockets. We spent around an hour looking for the jackets and trying to find out where they could be. We went back to the exit/entrance again and wanted to speak again with the security as our last hope. One of them got really angry, started to shout by telling us ‘It the fiftieth time you are asking, we don’t know where are your f*cking jackets’ and telling more rude words. He was very arrogant and pushed my boyfriend while my boyfriend was behaving calmly. We were sober and did not want to cause any trouble. Then the manager of the place, John, appeared and gave us the jackets back. We thanked him and left, although the other guards were still talking rude to us and even making fun of the situation. I do not recommend going to Gatsby at all. It is worth to mention that we are foreigners and we call this whole experience a nightmare. The staff were rude and racist. Only a few people from the staff were willing to help, however the majority of them just wanted us to leave and save our jackets to themselves. It is also important to mention that the jackets were from a well known expensive brand. Shame!!!

Fuimos en un sábado por la noche y era muy ocupados, pero el personal se las apañó para encontrar una mesa para la cena. Buena comida y una buena variedad de cervezas.
