Victoria Gardens Pub in Sunderland

Booked for my son's birthday for Sunday lunch. Absolutely beautiful food! Pink beef and belly pork 10/10 and I had rubarb crumble and custard and it was delicious! Great portions and the staff are lovely. Definitely recommend we will be back.

Booked to stay, it is on the budget end if the spectrum and may get taken apart by Four in a Bed. But the room was lovely, clean and effort made. The pub is good and the food looked spot on. Well worth a visit - We were made to feel welcome in a lovely establishment

We'd heard great thing about the food so we decided to give it a try, and by god we were impressed, food was delicious and cooked to perfection as to our request, rib eye steak was absolutely perfect, drink was very refreshing,atmosphere was friendly and relaxing, staff were polite and professional, cant fault it we will definitely be returning

This was my local for over 40 years I live in Manchester now but my mother still lives in Sunderland who.i always come up and visit her but tonight on the 11 of feb 2022 meeting with my friends I was told to leave the premises just because I was voicing my opinion to a friend of over 40 years i was very disgusted the way I was treat by a barmaid as she said I was to loud very disappointed customer

The food here is wonderful,freshly made and plentiful, the pub is good but sadly our visit was spoilt. I appreciate its a locals pub but did not like the fact we had to eat in the middle of people just drinking ,shouting and swearing and kids running around. Surely there could be a way of dividing off the restaurant side of the pub somehow? As I have said, the food is great and we will continue to order deliveries but not sure about revisiting to eat in. Sorry.

We had heard that a new Italian restaurant Volare had recently opened so six of us decided to give it a try. Our expectations weren’t high but we were very pleasantly surprised. Although small, it is not cramped. Staff were friendly but not intrusive and the food was delicious. The lasagne was probably the best I’ve ever tasted. Will definitely be back.

We tried steak and hunters chicken, was not disappointed at all!! The food came out piping hot, huge portions and very tasty!! Great atmosphere, pool table and TV what more could you want, support your local pubs as not many around now that offer this. Will definitely return

First time for Sunday lunch, the food was gorgeous. Homemade, fresh and well cooked. The gravy especially was delicious! Really nice cosy pub with good food and drinks at great prices!

Not a pub for fancy meals, just great value "pub grub" and a decent pint with a friendly atmosphere, just had the steak deal for a birthday celebration, excellent value, many thanks to Chef Joanne and all staff.

Under a new landlord now. And a huge improvement on the last landlord. Staff where pleasant and kind. And food was easily an up grade on last landlord. Recommend it. Keep the good work up.

Me and my partner come here every weekend and it offered a wide range of food, even if it isn’t on the menu they will still do any request! Friendly owners and make you feel apart of the pub even as a one off guest or a regular! Highly recommend!!

Haven't eaten here for a while, food looks to have taken a turn for the better recently - best to check on the pub's FB page for days/times that food is being served. Good little boozer for a drink, pleasant regular crowd and good staff.

Yo y un par de amigos vinieron para steake noche visto anunciado en Facebook, así que pensamos en darle una oportunidad.No me decepcionó Los bistecs eran hechas a la perfección la presentación de la comida era increíble. El personal era realmente amable y agradable. El pub está hecha realmente bonita y muy limpia. Sin duda volveré de nuevo. Quiere probar las hamburguesas al lado. Les daría un 10 / 10 si pudiera

El personal es encantador pub buena crack, pero es un poco caro para decir donde está podría tener un happy hour o algo para conseguir el personal. La comida tiene buena solo comí patatas fritas allí pero eran exuberantes ver u pronto saludos.

Visitamos en abril por mi cumpleaños. De no ser por unos pocos meses, así que solicitamos que mi comida de cumpleaños con amigos. Yo era un cliente habitual el año pasado y nos encantó el lugar, así que tenía muchas ganas de volver. Al llegar me di cuenta el personal habitual no estaban alrededor. El personal del bar tranquilo, no tengo mucho que decir y no sabía mucho sobre el menú. Había un grupo de 7 de nosotros, así que pedimos mucho. A mi menú que trajo a la mesa, me pareció que había equivocado mi comida por parte del niño. Pedí sobresaliente y patatas fritas. Después de ver las fotos de esta comida anterior me quedé muy sorprendida cuando vi mi comida. Una pequeña paz grasos de natación sobresaliente en grasa con un pequeño puñado de patatas fritas. Me dijo que la señora es este un menú para niños. Ella no tenía una respuesta para mí. Me llevaron a comer la comida como no quería causar un alboroto en mi cumpleaños. A menos de 30 minutos yo estaba enfermo con retortijones de estómago debido a la grasa en mi comida. El sobresaliente era negra debajo cuando me registré, parecía grasa vieja de la sartén. Salí de la comida y no creo que vuelva de nuevo. Parece como si las cosas han cambiado desde el año pasado. Es una lástima que nos visitó una vez un par de veces al mes el verano pasado.

Yo y mis padres decidieron probar aquí después de leer las excelentes críticas. Fuimos recibidos por un miembro del personal encantador, amable y nos dijeron que podíamos elegir una mesa y luego volver a la barra para colocar nuestro pedido. Pedí patata con piel para empezar, y fueron muy amables. Para el plato principal, decidí probar la lasaña, mi madre pidió el pescado y patatas fritas y mi padre decidimos ir para Misa del Gallo y bolas. Todo llegó caliente y bastante bien presentado. Yo estaba un poco decepcionado con la lasaña, ya que era muy cursi, incluso para un amante del queso como yo. También vino con algunos ciabatta tostado y ensalada. Mi padre era un poco decepcionado con su Misa del Gallo y bolas como a él le pareció la Misa del gallo no estaba muy sabroso y el guiso era suave (no tienen un crujiente, como nosotros solemos hacer cuando salen del horno). Mi madre tenía probablemente hizo la mejor elección con su pescado y patatas fritas. Ella les encantó y habría que de nuevo. Los precios son muy baratos, pero supongo que recibes lo que pagas. Me volvería a tener otra oportunidad, quizás por la noche carne pero creo que incluso sería un buen lugar para tomar una copa como el pub ha sido reformado con buen gusto y el personal muy amable.

Mi primo marido marchamos para todos nosotros un lugar para disfrutar de una comida en familia y para permitir que nuestros nuevos aquistion Rosie nuestra chica castillo 6 años, consiguieron una mesa muy privado para nosotros. El servicio y la comida eran excelentes, tenía una noche más encantadora. El personal cortés y profesional. No dudaría en regresar y lo recomiendo totalmente.

Esta fue nuestra primera visita a este pub. Haber oído buenas críticas acerca de la comida, decidimos darle una oportunidad y nos alegra mucho. Un tesoro escondido! Decoración atractiva, encantadora en el lugar y una cálida bienvenida. La comida estaba bien caliente, muy sabrosos y una gran relación calidad-precio. Sin duda volveremos y no puedo esperar a trabajar a través de los menús.

The Victoria Gardens has been recently refurbished and it's lovely and cosy! We ordered from the happy hour menu where we got 3 courses for £7.95!!!it was absolutely gorgeous. We will definitely come back!

This pub was recommended by friends so decided to visit the pub today 11.1.17 great location lovely inside and barman very polite and friendly, waited only 15mins for food and when it came it looked lovely well presented, I got the Moroccan wraps and my partner got the steak the taste was fantastic, I would definitely recommend and we will definitely be returning.

We went here for lunch after seeing some good reviews on Facebook. The decor is lovely and it's got a great cosy feel to it. The menu has some great pub classics as well as a few nice additions - falafel wraps with sweet potato fries, which is what I ordered and I have to say it was lovely. Really reasonably priced and I will definitely be back.

Have visited 5 times since it was newly renovated 2 months ago and do not plan to stop going. It has a small menu but includes a majority of pub classics and all are done to perfection. Everything tastes and looks homemade, everything tastes fresh which is a nice change to pubs serving frozen food. Food is fairly pricey for a pub but is well worth it and the portion sizes are just right. Drinks are very reasonably priced as well. Would recommend this to take your whole family to, or just pop along with a few mates. Perfect either way.

Had a meal there yesterday with my dad desided to treat ourself and try out the new menu, We both ordered the Angus Burger, which was a bad idea, nicely present, to greasy to pick up, so cut into it which turned into mush. Cut the review short, basically if you like eating food swimming in cooking oil and that turns into slobs go for it. My dad was sick the rest of the night, and complained to the staff. Who just said, "Your the first people to complain, We are have rave reviews," and worked away. NEVER AGAIN.

Went for tea following a recommendation. We had booked and on arrival were shown to our table. When we gave our order the waitress said there would a 30-40 minute delay as they had just taken a big order. This was not a problem. We were not disappointed when food was served great portions and tasty hot food. Will definitely be going again.

I have visited 3 times over the last few months and can not fault this place at all. I can not believe how beautiful it now is inside. The food 10/10 same for the service. One of the best restaurants in Sunderland. I have recommended to all my family & friend. Looking forward to my next visit

Went here with my husband and grandson as I heard they did 3 course specials for £9.99 however this is only on at lunchtime which is a pity as I think it would be packed on a tea time if it did.The food was amazing.huge portions and all fresh home cooked. well worth the money.

This is definitely worth a visit. Great food well presented and very tasty also great friendly staff and so helpful and obliging.

It is difficult to say what a difference a change of regime can make. The pub was taken over, refurbished and a great food regime put in place. Staff are friendly and helpful, ales are good, surroundings are clean, pleasant, well decorated and the food is special. There are no places in the town who are producing such quality, reasonably priced grub. If you are in town and want to eat, this place should be at the top of your list. The chef here is making lovely meals from quality ingredients with the occasional little twist. Pub grub at its best.

My friends and I recently visited the Victoria Gardens after hearing really good reports and they weren't wrong. Food is all home cooked (the large chunky chips are amazing!!) and very large portions. We had the three course lunch menu, which is served until 3pm, for £7.50 each and could not move after it. We will definitely be back to sample the rest of the menu.

Visited this pub recently and I will definitely be back. The food we had was all home made and delicious. My friend had fish and and I had mince and dumplings both were amazing (the fish was enormous) and 3 courses for £7.50 is complete steal. Loved it!

£7.50 for 3 courses all home made and piping hot, the best lunch I've had out in a long long time. The place is done out really nice with lovely comfy seats too. Both me and my friend had potato skins to start and then I had lasagne my friend having chicken curry rice and chips and then dessert of brownie and ice cream and toffee and vanilla cheesecake. Both meals were amazing! I couldn't believe the value for money and quality of the food and I will 100% be back

This pub has had a had its ups and downs over the last few years but having recently re-opened under new management after a total refit, it now offers excellent food and Real Ale. Very much family friendly.

Three years since I reviewed and what a difference, new management,refurbished, great choice of real ales, food, WiFi and sky sports. Could give the local competition a run for their money once word gets out. A pub the local community can be proud of.

Just been taken over by new manager, is now an absolute DUMP! not a place for families, excellent place for a fight (If there is anyone in at all!). The prices are higher than their competitor up the road and the atmosphere is dreadful!

Nice friendly pub, not much choice in real ale and no food. Tucked away just off the main road, plenty parking, worth a visit.

Always a nice pint whenever I call in. Craig the bar man is great if not a little camp! ...............................
