The Hidden Gem in Sunderland

Had lunch today and it was fantastic. The portion sizes are huge and the food is extremely tasty. We ordered a chicken parmo baguette and a cowboy burger. The photographs speak for themselves. Staff are super friendly and this really is a hidden gem.

Go here often , normally on a weekend ,the staff are great , very friendly. Food is fantastic and very reasonably priced. Chicken parmos are deliscious also!!

Visited with the boy after a game of galaxy golf. He had the BBQ Parmo and I had the Gem burger. Both were plentiful and cooked to perfection. The home cooked chips really need to be tried to be believed, delicious. A friendly welcome and lovely staff. Good luck for the future Hidden Gem. Well be back.

Excellent home cooked food in unique surroundings and very reasonably priced. Tried one of their signature freshly cooked cheesey chip pies, it was lovely. A must for any pie lover! They also do burgers and pizzas that look amazing.

I went here as I seen the excellent reviews and I was not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious and I was stuffed for the whole day! The staff were excellent and were more than happy to help.

Lovely food, staff are nice and friendly, Eaten here a few times and it’s been great each time. Really can’t complain

This place is by far the best place to eat in Sunderland ... we found this place by mistake and have never been anywhere else in Sunderland to eat since.... excellent atmosphere, great food, friendly and helpful staff. Colouring books and reading books for the kids are available so they are entertained whilst the adults enjoy hot food nothing is ever to much trouble for the staff here.

Great food and atmosphere, the portions aren't small either, staff were super friendly, we don't usually like trying places we don't know or heard about before but this was one of the best discoveries my partner and I ever made.

I visited The Hidden Gem today for the first time and I must say I was absolutely delighted with the service I received. The food is of high quality and is very cheap. There is a wide variety of options on the menu and therefore is suitable for any age. The staff were friendly, the food was stunning and the atmosphere was lovely. If your looking for lovely home cooked food at a cheap price I would 100% recommend.

Visit this place quite often, very rarely anywhere else while I'm in town. Mint prices and always get loads of food but no skimping on quality. Especially love the pizzas! Been with my lass, mates and birthdays. Sometimes before the match too as they do pints

Love this place- always feel welcome. Had lovely food last night, home made pizza which was delicious. A great place for food, a bevvie and a catch up with friends.

Lovely wood fired pizza - delicious! Friendly service and very reasonable prices - support an independent restaurant and try this little gem.

Had a great meal at the Hidden Gem. The homemade pizza was absolutely awesome, had different flavours, BBQ chicken and margarita and a Parmo with chunky chips - great value and good size portions. Great decor and a bit quirky - would highly recommend for somewhere a bit different with fresh food Cooked to order.

One of our favourite places to visit, family orientated, beautiful homemade food, friendly staff and very reasonably priced. Overall a guaranteed beautiful meal. If you haven't been yet get yourselves along. They also have a soft play just 2 shops up which is ideal for the kid's to burn off some energy.

The name says it all, proper hidden gem, fantastic food and really friendly staff, I got the southwest burger with no rabbit food and unreal garlic sauce!

Sunderland may not be my favourite place as a Newcastle United supporter!!! But I’ll swallow my pride in order to visit The Hidden Gem. Menu is great, staff are the best and a great atmosphere. They even have a soft play area next door. So everyone is happy!! Top marks all round

After following The Hidden Gem on Facebook, it was finally time to pay the local business a visit to see what all the fuss is about.From the minute you walk through the door, you are immediately greeted by the friendly staff.Hidden out the back is a quirky little dining area for all to enjoy. It was only a short wait for the food to be served and by god was I not let down, I can honestly say that this was without a doubt the best parmo I've had in the area! I cant praise the chef enough not only for the amazing food that was cooked to sheer perfection, but his banter which makes you feel a home.This really is a hidden gem in the middle of the city centre!

The food was unreal and the staff were so polite and kind. Will definitely be going again, fantastic!

As the name says hidden gem ! Went in today by chance as we were passing Looks so little from the outside but it’s rather big inside with seating areas to the front and back , We were greeted with a friendly smile and hello , so much to offer we will be back , I got a toasted cheese scone and my friend a prawn salad sandwich both absolutely delicious, I’m surprised this cafe/ bar isn’t busier but I’m guessing it’s because not everyone knows it’s there well worth a visited can’t wait to come back

Went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon with my family. We ordered pizzas, jacket potatoes and pints of Moretti for the adults and coke for my son. The pizzas were incredible and the service was second to none. This place has a vast menu and serves some local delicacies such as cheesy chips and gravy pies. Would definitely recommend.

We call in regularly the service is awesome the food is outstanding & the price meets our budget will be visiting again

I and my wife have visited several times over the last few months, sometimes for meals and sometimes for just coffee or cake, always taste good, the only complaint I'd have is that there's sometimes too much and I hate leaving anything to waste.

Love coming here for a meal. Great relaxed atmosphere, service is always amazing and the food is to die for. The pie floaters are amazing and there's so much variety in the pies, my personal favourite is the cheesy chips and gravy. Pizzas are beautiful too!

Great customer service and AMAZING food! Lovely atmosphere. Can’t wait to visit again. And for those with kids be sure to visit their sister venue The Hidden Den!

Would love to recommend this place, its name says it all HIDDEN GEM. I've been about 3 times twice with my husband and kids and with our friends and the food is amazing I can't fault any of it. The portion sizes are really good too. I've had pizzas, parmo and burger and all lovely. The staff are very friendly and Lisa is such a lovely lady to she went out of her way to help us feel comfortable especially with our disabled daughter so thank you. All of their food is home made and cooked fresh and the prices are fantastic to. Look forward to returning

Been to both, hidden gem and hidden den. Food and service excellent. Gem great for food and conversation.Loads of football artefacts to look at and great atmosphere. Den great for kids to let off steam while adults can relax and enjoy a cuppa and food.

We tried The Hidden Gem on one of their late night openings. The staff are all so friendly and couldn't do enough to help, which creates a very welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. The menu selection is fab and everyone's meal was delicious - we particularly enjoyed the chicken kebabs and the pizzas. Afterwards, the popcorn machine and ice creams were also a hit. We will definitely be returning and would 100% recommend this place!

Wow , first visit to this place & it certainly is a hidden gem! Spoilt for choice with the menu, but decided to go for Bolognese Parmo! Best I’ve tasted, they also serve alcohol which is a bonus! Great staff, great place , can’t wait to return

Been here today with family and couldn’t fault it I had burger and salad son had parmo burger and chips two grandsons had pizza which looked delicious I also got parmo ciabatta and chips to take out for hubby which he said was delicious the staff couldn’t do enough for you will definitely be back

I've been here a few times and have never been disappointed. Pizzas are amazing. Same with the burgers. To top it off the chips are fresh. Not the usual frozen crap. Great place to eat if you around sunderland.
