The food and service here is fantastic. The restaurant is more of a takeaway as it is very small can probably fit two people in. The food is always really fresh and tasty. I personally think it is a little overpriced compared to other places

Wow, what a wonderful evening! Excellent service, gorgeous cocktails, and the starters of scallops and katsu halibut were outstanding. The pork shared mains, and belly of pork beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. We could not fault a thing. We were made to feel so welcome, and enjoyed such a beautiful evening with our daughter for our 27th wedding anniversary. Thank you to all the staff and chefs, it was outstanding!

Chips were freshly cooked (but a bit undercooked and limp), battered sausage was ok, but the 'batter' was a thin coating of something very chewy, but worst was the fish. A thin layer of 'fish' between two limp, chewy, layers of thin 'batter' - think the cheapest frozen 'oven fish'.

Apparently 27 years old is too old to get in according to the security šŸ˜‚ who where pretty rude when a group of us turned up. Aged 21 - 40 odd. A family infront of us similar ages where also turned away. Now it did look like a school disco as we walked away so I’m glad we didn’t go BUT that does NOT excuse rude behaviour or attitude or telling people in their 20s they are too old to get in on a Saturday night. Good luck with the venue but yet again more lost customers here šŸ‘

Brilliant for a small group Breakfast meet up. Relaxing and nice calm atmosphere, especially after the school drop-offs. Casual time to unwind and chatter. A nid-morning meet-up with food and coffee/tea. Breakfast plates were tasty and nothing to fault here. Staff were welcoming and polite.

Another fantastic meal at the Dukes Head. The food was delicious, we took advantage of the specials and had the lemon sole and lamb shank both cooked beautifully. Our server Shannon was excellent and very attentive making sure our meal was good and keeping us topped up with beverages. Added bonus that there was a singer Carol Harper singing who kept us well entertained throughout our meal and was brilliant. Can't wait to visit again.

We arrived at 3pm and were instantly informed that the tea room was closing at 4pm. We wondered if it was already closed as it was partly lit, with very dim lighting and we were informed that the heating had broken down, no apologies were given. The staff were extremely unfriendly and there was a distinct chill in the air not just from the lack of heating. The attitude of the staff was that they could not be bothered and customers were distinctly unwelcome as they were only interested in cleaning the tea room and tidying the tables. Whilst eating our scones that were delicious, staff were sweeping the floor around our feet as if they could not wait for us to leave so they could close up and leave. I bought a few products at the end of our tea and was overcharged by £18.00. When I queried the error I was told by three members of staff that the total charge was correct and when I insisted on seeing the manager he offered me £15-01 in cash even though I had originally paid by debit card. After further lengthy discussion and calculating I eventually received the correct amount of £18-00 in cash. We were extremely disappointed with the service and attitude of the staff, particularly the argument regarding the products purchased, where I was informed many times that I was in error. No apologies were forthcoming and I left the establishment with a nasty taste in my mouth that wasn't caused by the food I had consumed. The manager was less than helpful and when I contacted head office I was told that the errors and sub-standard service were due to staff shortages and inexperienced staff. We have visited many other branches of Wilkins tea rooms throughout Essex and found them all to be excellent with friendly and cheerful service and apologies for delays or when an item on the menu has been unavailable. I would avoid this particular branch like the plague.
