I been at KB with my family for a birthday meal. First strange thing I noticed when they brought a buttered fish for my child and fish was pale, oily and soggy (when breaded fish served for my second child looked great). When they brought my buttered fish I seen the same- A very pale, soggy, greesy thing on my plate :( Taste was not good eaither..butter was not crispy, but greesy and also had a taste of old flour, not sure what was wrong but I ate less than half. When waitress came to collect plate (she probably seen I ate no much of it) she asked "if all was ok?"..I honesty said that I didnt like my buttered fish and... waitress just replied "Thats ok", turned around and gone with my plate. She show NO interest in situation at all.. and I had no even a chance to explain why I did no ate my dinner.
Next thing I did not like, it when my kid's favourite song starts to play, some gentelmen appeared from kitchen with a hoover in his hands and without asking anybody around he turned his hoover ON and instead of music we listened a sounds of hoover for a few minutes. Kids were so upset. They said "we didnt hear our favourite song" :(
Now, after I came back home from KB I had a very upset stomack and it still sore, child who had buttered fish too complained about sore tummy too. So..not very good experience for 70 pounds we paid. Probably would not go back to KB again :-(
Lunch, excellent, soup and sandwich, wow, great tasting home made lentil and bacon soup, yum, tuna sandwich with crisps, my friend had baked potatoe with coronation chicken and side salad, various different items on the menu, nice tea room, nice people who own tea room and lovely young lady serving, give it a try, you’ll go back. I’m sure they could cater for a wheelchair user and have a disabled toilet as well. Very reasonably priced as well. Irene makes lovely apple pies, mmm to die for. Parking at back of tearoom or on street parking.
Turning left off the ferry from the mainland, Richan's retreat is the first house on the right, 100 yards up the road. Step inside to a genuinely warm welcome and a trip back into the island past. Run by a Westray lady married to a Mancunian exile, the cafe offer's excellent value basic fare - the soup was homemade and utterly delicious - accompanied by friendly conversation and a genuine insight into island life. The cafe also features handcrafts, all made on Westray itself. Not to be missed on any trip.
King prawn tacos. Made to order and worth the short wait. Large local prawns in a lovely crisp beer batter. Thanks they were out of this world and great value for money
Just had a full Scottish breakfast and a coffee. It was easily the best breakfast in the area. Absolutely delicious, freshly made with clearly the best ingredients. Cherry on top was the lovely ladies working there.
I'm on Orkney for work with some spare time before flying home. On my way from Brodgar to Scapa I passed through Finnston and situated on a pretty bay with picnic tables is Leigh's van. "A real taste of Orkney", it says on the side. Wow. Beautiful friendly, chatty service. Good knowledge of the local produce and to top it all, the best sandwich I've ever had from a van. Have the steak rossinni burger. Again, wow.
We went here specifically for a gluten free meal and found the menu online. The pre booked table was set out for the 3 of us in the bar before we arrived and we were welcomed at the bar and shown to our seats and handed the menu. Drinks order was taken quickly and the order arrived straight away. Food order for the 3 of us was taken and arrived with similar speed. The menu is fantastic if you are GF - we all ordered a starter and a main. The prawn and salmon cocktail was excellent but the highlight was the GF roast beef - the Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and gravy were all GF and really good. The roast lamb also looked good. All in all a great place to eat with tasty food.
Stayed at a nearby B&B, so ate dinner here. Had fish and chips, which was lovely, and the best dessert I’ve had this holiday. Small place, so need to book. Unfortunately, not open on a Sunday or Monday.
Called in after a dog walk for a cup of tea and some sweet treats. The kinder beuno whoopie cookie was very good! Can recommend the special biscoff hot chocolate too, if you like sweet things.

Went in for breakfast in the morning. Nice place, nice service, good food and fresh scones too.
One big issue though; the premises was absolutely freezing cold, to the point customers were shivering and kept their jackets on.
Not good!!! Heating should be on in time for the place opening to the public and seeing customers sitting in jackets should bet of alarm bells if you work there or own the place
