I'm on Orkney for work with some spare time before flying home. On my way from Brodgar to Scapa I passed through Finnston and situated on a pretty bay with picnic tables is Leigh's van. "A real taste of Orkney", it says on the side. Wow. Beautiful friendly, chatty service. Good knowledge of the local produce and to top it all, the best sandwich I've ever had from a van. Have the steak rossinni burger. Again, wow.

Like other reviewers I can’t commend the food highly enough. Up there with the best Lorne sausage I’ve tasted, perfectly cooked and delicious. Brilliant

What a great little find. There was a long queue which sorted of suggested it might be good and it was. Gourmet burgers with a local twist. They were reasonably priced and delicious. The view is spectacular and the public toilets adjacent are spotless.

In terms of taste I genuinely think the smokestack may be the best burger in the world!! Great menu with lots of options the only negative is Sometimes there is a bit of a wait but that’s due to everything being cooked to order. It’s well worth the wait!

When it's Leigh's! This beats our best burger van food ever! We were sober too! Smoke stack and Joey D's (steak) ordered. Melt in the mouth: both. If only the van would stick to stated opening hours which regularly seemed to change over night in the last two weeks. Well worth a visit if you're passing.

Have been to Leigh’s a few times over the years and never had a bad burger yet. The Smokestack is always a good shout, but tried the Rossini burger with duck plate and blueberry BBQ sauce for a change. Might sound odd but it was delicious! Can sometimes have a wait, however I’d say it’s worth hanging around for.

Our filet steak roll with fried onions n mushrooms was OUTSTANDING, it melted in your mouth, we looked at each other---will we have another--- no, queue was too long. Sadly it was our last day ,wish we'd found it earlier in week. Prices are amazing £5 each!! Girls on van were really nice too, well organised.

What a find! An excellent team delivering top quality burgers, superb chicken alternatives and excellent coffee. Five of us visited twice during our holiday and tried just about all the menu, never disappointed. Nice spot too with a grand view over the Loch.

Dont be a snob and try this out! Delicious! There were five of us (twice) and it was all tremendous. Steak rolls, burgers of all varieties and chicken too. We all argued over whose was the tastiest!! Lovely coffee and friendly girls working hard to provide a quick service. Trust me - just try it!!

I had a hot dog and was given three long sausages in a bread roll-big portion I thought. Unfortunately the sausages did not taste cooked but my partner said they were it was just that type of sausage. he liked his cheeseburger and I have to say the prices were very good for portion size. I prefer to put my own sauce etc on and the bottles were all lined up at the front, so I thought In was good to go. But no, they do it! They ask if you want any and then put it on. Maybe the Scottish way is to put mustard on the roll, under the dogs but I prefer mine laid on top. Not that I suppose it makes any difference to taste, I just found it unusual. What really was a let down was the coffee. A young girl made it and I like my coffee on the weak side but it was gross. Coffee flavoured water, I couldn't drink it and had to pour it away. Service was friendly and food cooked to order and the van looked busy, so maybe I hit it on an off day, or it was just not to my taste

We have eaten in various establishments from those with Michelin stars to more humble venues but a roadside van- never! However, on our hosts recommendation, we stopped in Finstown for a lunchtime bite and were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of our repast. A steak bun with onions and mushrooms melted in the mouth it was so good. Indeed, we returned a day or two later for more (in this case a burger too). Again, it was very good. Leigh and colleague are friendly and care about the provenance of their ware so it may not surprise to learn that there is inevitably a que.

We were told about this food van by a friend who had visited earlier and told about an award winning food van. We came across it by chance when traveling back down to Kirkwall from the Broch of Gurness. The van had a wide range of burgers available including steaks they also do soups, hot dogs and sandwiches and yes they have won awards for their food. I can vouch for the quality it was good and full of flavour the price was at the upper end of good value but the quality and portion made up for this, I would recommend that people look out for this van

Sailed here, having started in Bodo, Norway. Enjoyed Westray and the Pierowall Bar/Restaurant. All 3 of us were happy with our food in the restaurant and drinks from the bar. Realised there was what seemed like a 'locals' bar when I walked to the toilets.

Just back from staying 3 nights in the wonderful very dog friendly Lynnfield Hotel in Kirkwall. We have stayed in several other hotels in Kirkwall but none of them came up to the standard of the Lynnfield Hotel. Malcolm and his staff couldn’t have made us feel more welcome than they did. Our room, the Melsetter Suite was just wonderful. A fantastic mira shower and a space age jacuzzi bath etc etc! The food was simply delicious. We had intended eating elsewhere on one of the nights but after dinner in the Lynnfield Hotel the first night we continued to eat in house for the duration of our stay. For dog owners, look no further. All the staff are very dog friendly. Rusty our Welsh terrier can’t wait to go back! Very highly recommended.

We received a warm welcome to this lovely coffee shop with amazing views. The coffee, we all agreed, was excellent. Three of us opted for scones with jam and cream and one for coffee cake and again we all thought what we had was delicious. Great selection of food and drinks, super staff and great views all added up to a very nice morning out.

Spoiled for choice, all sorts of delicatessen to pick from. Not super cheap or expensive but had a good browse and bought some relish, cheese and oatcakes.

This small community is to drive through, and not a destination. Because of the hour, we elected to stop here for dinner. The small restaurant was cozy, the service friendly and helpful and the food, surprisingly very good, beyond our expectations. The scallops were outstanding and the steaks were nothing less than perfect. A selection of food items for kids simplified our stop, and the selection of beers and ales made it even more interesting.
