We ate here two nights in a row in early August. The menu changed each night so there were new things to try. We gelt some of the food, such as the starters, were over priced for the portion (£8.50 for two small croquettes) but they were delicious. However, the slices of cake we got for pudding were easily big enough for two (the picture shows two half slices on one plate) and each only £6.50. The cakes and puddings we had were all top notch A*** (esp choc ganache) so worth coming in just for coffee and cake even if you don't have a meal. We booked in advance via WhatsApp for 6pm dinner: Wed night it was quiet but the Thursday was heaving so glad we booked. The food we had was c. £20 for a main course and was really well made and delicious. Portions aren't huge but were sufficient. There isn't a kids menu so the first night we shared two meals between the three of us and had pudding, but the second night we had a main each. The Island Cafe is cheaper than the Coll Hotel and has a nice home made, welcoming feel to it with local art and two linked rooms, one with sofas and tables and the other just tables. The serving staff were nice young people. My partner also had coffee and cake here and the cakes really are very good (I hear the Chelsea buns are to die for too) and my coffee-snob partner says this is the best coffee available on Coll.
Second visit in two days. I choose the airport by the quality of the Caff !
Superb bacon roll yesterday, ham salad today served by cheery happy staff in a great venue. Spot on tea as well 👍

Exceptionally family B&B -
We had a wonderful week as guests of James and Leesa!
If you want a beautiful, spacious B&B with warm, open and friendly hosts and an excellent breakfast - this is it! :)
Accommodation/feeling:
Depending on your personal taste, you can have a “quick and easy” stay here: say hello, get a room, stay 1-2 nights, have breakfast and leave again.
OR (clear recommendation!):
You can use the breakfast/lounge room in the house with a fantastic view and winter garden panoramic windows as well as the small garden. You can have a nice chat - no matter how good or bad your English is: James and Leesa are happy to chat with you if you want.
The breakfast is very extensive with lots of choice and is unusually great by British standards. There is very good, freshly ground filter coffee, many different types of tea and also hot chocolate. In addition to the classic warm selection (Scottish, eggs, porridge), there is a variety of fresh fruit, yoghurts, cornflakes, spreads from jam to peanut butter and the warm food is pleasantly less greasy than usual 👍🏻😊
All of this is served in the beautiful, sunny breakfast room with a view of the Tay and with a warm good morning and - if you like - a bit of chat.
We were happy to have James give us the “tip of the day” in the morning and every single one was great! :) Leesa is the sweet soul of the house. When French guests were in the house, she added fresh croissants to the breakfast in the morning. Another day she gave away a homemade version of toffee.
Overall, the two of them were by far the warmest and most familiar hosts we ever had on two trips to Scotland ☺️☀️
Room:
Our room (Blue Room) was quiet, very spacious, well equipped, very clean, absolutely homely and typical of the country. What I really liked was the neatly packed mattresses - a clear plus point for allergy sufferers!
But here's the only negative point: the beds are also typical of the country - with a lot of spring and (for German backs) a little harder (but still far from back pain!). I folded and placed the extra wool blanket as a cushion, but softer mattresses or the option of getting a topper would be a good improvement. :)
Location: The B&B is absolutely ideal! You are right on the street in all directions without it being noisy. You can go on various hikes or cycle directly from your front door. Both the Cairngorms and the local Highlands are right there. There are many castles nearby, endless hiking trails with and without waterfalls. With Pitlochry there are many bars and restaurants nearby - here too: ask James! ;) There is also a larger COOP and bus routes to all major cities.
Clear recommendation - definitely stay longer than 1-2 nights and drive a little further to your excursions! ☺️👍🏻

This was the absolute best place we stayed on our visit to Scotland! We only stayed on night, and it’s my one regret from the trip that we didn’t stay longer. The welcome and service was excellent, the room was perfect, and the breakfast service was delicious! I want to plan a trip back just to visit the accommodations again!
We met friends for brunch there this weekend. The cafe is very welcoming and the staff extremely friendly. The menu/specials sounded so exciting that we ordered 5 dishes between 4 of us - Brisket chilli with cauliflower rice, Prawn with avocado on a milk bun, and Huevos Rancheros. All of the dishes were absolutely fantastic and unusual. The coffee is also extremely good. We will definitely be back (and will no doubt become regulars!)
Having been in Brechin with my young son for a football match, we were struggling to find somewhere suitable to eat. Our hotel refused to open their kitchen as it wasn’t busy, so we had to go out and look for somewhere. We found the Auld Bakehouse just by wandering around. We asked if they had a table and they gave us the last one up by the stairs. We both had steak pie, chips and veggies. The food was lovely, and the portions generous. Only out done by the wonderful service. Next time I am in Brechin this will be my first choice, super experience. Very grateful that they let us squeeze in.
I believe the place is BYOB but being with my wee boy I wasn’t drinking. Coffee was lovely!
I went out to eat with my family and we ordered jungle curry with shrimp, stir-fried minced pork with holy basil, fried chicken, steamed rice, and sticky rice. Personally, I really loved the jungle curry—it was exactly how I like it! I secretly asked for it to be extra spicy, and it totally delivered. It was hot, spicy, and so satisfying to sip on.

The most amazing pizzas! Always so fresh and tasty, really quick service and lovely staff. Have also tried the salt and pepper chips and chicken goujons and they too are 10/10. Can’t recommend this place enough, top quality food.
Had one of the best meals ever in this fantastic refurbished restaurant. Tide and Thyme have always produced excellent food but the new styling is truly remarkable. Everything just spot on. Our meals were all perfect, zucchini fritters, scallops, lamb, sea bass, seafood linguine, everything was beautifully presented, great portions and tasted sublime. Thank you for a wonderful evening. Good luck....not that you will need it....!

I went to An dárna with my wife to celebrate a special occasion as we had heard about the restaurant. It was an absolute pleasure to have the opportunity to taste all the delicate and well curated dishes we tried. Every single one from the starter to the dessert was absolutely beautiful and so tasty.
The staff was brilliant and so gentle and caring telling all the story behind the dishes. This made the experience even more interesting and engaging. The bread was beautifully wrapped, warm and presented with a homemade butter in a wooden board that definitely got us in love. The restaurant is very casual with a fine design that makes you feel unique. Everything from the crockery to the Seating and booths were 10/10. The price for the tasting menu is absolutely fantastic and it allows you to have a taste of all the full menu that they could offer. Not to forget that the drinks available are also superb and for all tastes. Wines from all-over the world, great selection!
They change the menu every so often which makes you want to come again and try the new pieces of ear art. Definitely we will come back to this restaurant and encourage all foodies to try and don't miss this opportunity. Huge congratulations to all staff chefs and managers for making what a simple lunch could be in a really special experience to remember.
Just like how a fish supper should be; no nonsense. Was so good didn’t even need sauce.
Visited for dinner after hearing great things about the place and it didn’t disappoint. Super fish suppers, coleslaw, onion rings and finished off with a single nougat wafer. Our server Lyla was a delight; fully competent, smiley and polite. The place takes you back in time, even with a fryer from nineteen canteen - very special.
We will most definitely be back!
