We ate here two nights in a row in early August. The menu changed each night so there were new things to try. We gelt some of the food, such as the starters, were over priced for the portion (£8.50 for two small croquettes) but they were delicious. However, the slices of cake we got for pudding were easily big enough for two (the picture shows two half slices on one plate) and each only £6.50. The cakes and puddings we had were all top notch A*** (esp choc ganache) so worth coming in just for coffee and cake even if you don't have a meal. We booked in advance via WhatsApp for 6pm dinner: Wed night it was quiet but the Thursday was heaving so glad we booked. The food we had was c. £20 for a main course and was really well made and delicious. Portions aren't huge but were sufficient. There isn't a kids menu so the first night we shared two meals between the three of us and had pudding, but the second night we had a main each. The Island Cafe is cheaper than the Coll Hotel and has a nice home made, welcoming feel to it with local art and two linked rooms, one with sofas and tables and the other just tables. The serving staff were nice young people. My partner also had coffee and cake here and the cakes really are very good (I hear the Chelsea buns are to die for too) and my coffee-snob partner says this is the best coffee available on Coll.

Fantastic food which was reasonably priced and friendly staff. We were the only people booked on the evening we visited so the atmosphere was a little on the quiet side but we thoroughly enjoyed the food!

If you get a chance to eat here it’s a must. The menu is concise, the ingredients as local as possible and the presentation and flavours are amazing. We’ve eat here when we visit friends on the island and it is an amazing. On our May visit I had the Chicken liver pate starter with oatcakes, wow the flavour was intense I savoured every last scrap of it.. for main course I had fresh landed Crayfish with local grown salad leaves, it tasted fabulous. For dessert I had the rhubarb crumble cake ( wow who knew this was a thing) it was fabulous. The island cafe is the perfect place for a reasonably priced well presented and very tasty meal. Oh and the wine selection is great too and as your on Island time why not have a bottle or maybe two. It’s a must if you’re heading here but you must book.

Excellent 3 course meal with hubby. Sun dried tomato soup, beef bourguignon, Cajun chicken served with salad and excellent fries, burnt Basque cheesecake, (a first for me, delicious), chocolate brownie with ice cream and a bottle of red wine. Lovely, elegant cafe with delicious food. Lewis was so professional but genuinely friendly and very helpful with his recommendations for our island exploration. We were lucky enough to be served by the incredibly kind and professional Lewis. What an outstanding chap he is! Our smoked salmon & scrambled eggs on homemade toast were delicious, and the coffees (with a touch of honey by request) were exactly what we needed. The help and service we received when we mentioned our keys were locked in our car was also first rate! We'll return to Coll next year, and we'll dine here for both breakfast and dinner. See you soon!

Was very glad I had booked as they were having to turn folk away and with the fabulous menu it was no wonder. I was a bit worried when I arrived that there were only two other tables in but it filled up very quickly with visitors and locals. The menu was really different from your usual fayre and every dish was delicious and perfectly presented. I have to mention the Burnt Basque Cheesecake as I felt the name did not do it justice. What a taste sensation! If it is on the menu then you must try it. It was like a sort of solid bread and butter pudding consistency with a scrumptious caramelised sugar / Creme brulee taste. Rich and so comforting after a days cycling 😃 The staff were really lovely and even though they were super busy they were still genuinely friendly. A real positive when you are dining solo. They do lunch as well so if you are in Coll I would definitely recommend.

We visited twice but each time just for coffees. On both occasions service was just plain odd: friendly enough but rather random and slow. I wonder if the place is under new management and they are still learning how to do things? Menus were not on display so I cant comment on their food offerings. The cafe is popular and in a lovely location and the coffee delicious. Located in what looks like an old pub building. The interior is light and bright but simply furnished. Most seating is indoors but there is some outdoors too

Still the lovely plate of 7 veges, delicious potatoes and local meats. They do half-size puds (which are about the same size as most 'normal' ones!) and we thought the bread & butter pud was very tasty. We dropped in on the Sunday after a hot cycle ride and though they were busy with their Sunday roasts (next time!), it was no trouble to provide us with 2 of their mango sorbets from the menu, which really hit the spot.

Although stopping at the local hotel, my wife and I called in here for afternoon tea on a couple of occasions, and Sunday lunch. It is a pleasantly friendly café, with quite a large menu. The afternoon tea I had was a scone with butter, jam and cream - sadly the cream was just the 'spray can' stuff, not clotted that I am used to, and was somewhat disappointing. The coffee was fine, though, and when we had Sunday lunch a couple of days later I was pleasantly surprised. I had the roast beef option, which was cooked well and very tender - it was the first time I had ever had a lunch arrive on 3 plates - one with the meat, roasties and gravy, one with about 6 different veg, and the third with an enormous Yorkshire pud. It was nearly overwhelming, but I managed to finish it all off!!! What excellent value, and highly recommended.

Popped in twice after long walks for tea and cake. The scones were delicious and came with jam and cream. The service is friendly and place has a relaxed feel, perfect.

Marvelous honesty tea tent set up by local school students in a fantastic setting. This was the most unexpected treat on our cycle tour along Jura's coast

After searching for restaurants on Bute before our visit there, The Waterfront's reviews were consistently good, so we booked for the beginning of our holiday. We were not disappointed! The food was truly delicious, but not only that, we and the couple we met at the next table enjoyed a very entertaining evening of fun and banter. So much so, we were both there again a few nights later, we had enjoyed it so much, and of course we wanted to try more of the outstanding food. Thank you Gabriel and the Waterfront for making our stay on Bute that much more memorable! 5 stars without a doubt and highly recommended.
