Fabulous! Great atmosphere, amazing location, food and service. Lovely to meet the owners who served us. Crafts and freshly made bread for sale- we grabbed ourselves a loaf, and made a few friends who we met on the ferry on the way back to the mainland.

We have been cycling in Tiree for a few years now but this was out first visit to Ceabhar. I can't believe we hadn't gone before because it is just great. It has a really friendly vibe and it was great to see lots of locals eating there, always a good sign I feel. Husband had the Carrot and Coriander soup, which was so tasty, thick and luscious with lots of flavour. We both then had Roast Pork, which was the special of the day. It was soft, and flavourful and came with lots of veg and crackling. Yum. I then had the old classic, Sticky Toffee Pudding, full of flavour and just the perfect amount. Husband had Rhubarb Crumble which he said was delicious. I can unreservedly recommend the Ceabhar, it was delicious. We pedalled off back to our cottage with a sense of jollity and a minor glow from the Beer.

Duncan & Polly and their staff are great hosts and it feels more like they're inviting friends into their home rather than guest into a restaurant, great home cooking, great pizza, and great beer (if you're on the island for a week order a keg). On the night we went the whole restaurant ended up in a discussion trying to figure out all the birds outside the window. Then the restaurant completely emptied of staff and customers to go watch a stunning sunset. If there's home made crumble on the dessert menu definitely save room for dessert.

A wonderful meal on a very wet and windy night. Food to die for, lovely service and such a nice way to spend an evening with family. Unhurried service made us feel we were really being looked after. Our daughter's chorizo starter was declared awesome and our baked brie was just so gooey and delicious . . . the mains didn't disappoint either and two of the party managed to enjoy dessert too!

We visited Ceabhar on a windy and rainy evening towards the end of our holiday and were made to feel welcome as soon as we entered by Duncan and the team. We were given a choice of three tables and our daughter chose the one nearest the bar as she likes to see the barman on action. The fishy starter and mains were of great quality and the Faceplanter beer was superb. To follow, our daughter had profiteroles (of which we had to have a taste) , and we both had the wonderful cheesecake. A box of children's colouring books kept our daughter amused between courses and so pleased that Duncan and Megan called her by name. If we return to Tiree next year we will return to Ceabhar too. Thanks to all the staff at this great place.

Was there with five friends on Saturday 15th June, having booked in advance in mid-April (very necessary due to limited opening - Wednesday to Saturday, 7.00-9.00pm, i.e. dinner only - and 30-place capacity) so it was full! The menu features delicious fresh local seafood but also steak and other beef dishes - plus starters and sweets. All served swiftly and attractively. Don't drink alcohol myself but my friends thought their SIBA-award-winning microbrewery products were excellent. And good value for money. All in all a great evening!

From the email booking I made before my holiday to paying the bill, the whole experience was enjoyable and friendly. The food was creative and delicious. My husband had a wonderful bouillabaisse and I ate a perfect ribeye steak. The service was very friendly; Polly and Duncan and team go out of their way to ensure that you have a relaxing evening. We went on a Wednesday evening and it was full, so do book! Island folk work hard, often in diverse ways, and Polly also sells her beautiful stained glass creations. And a final note, the views from the restaurant are divine, as you can see from the pic.

Excitedly booked as very limited choice of eateries on Tiree. Restaurant pretty full when we arrived. Menu was surprising as quite limited and mixed pizza with ‘mainstream’ meals. Some specials and limited wine also on offer. As well as home brewed beers. The Thai soup was delicious actually, the scallops fine and the steak disappointingly medium rather than rare. Mains served with regular mixed veg and roasties. Profiteroles ..strange pastry, certainly not Choux. Overall it was mediocre. Expensive for what it was. What needed improvement was the waiting staff who just slop the food onto the table without a smile, and the overall smell of cooking that clinged to my hair and clothes. The food was good home cooking at best, nothing particularly outstanding. To improve, the source of the food would be good. Napkins too rather than paper. To be honest, the best food place on Tiree is the co op.....

We booked our table on spec having fortuitously decided to stop for a breather whist cycling in that part of Tiree. How fortunate we were! Booking had obviously been essential; our initial enquiry resulted in an answerphone message being left, but an unexpectedly swift reply ensured our table for the following evening. The food was outstandingly good throughout- a special mention for the 'catch of the day' in which Polly succeeded in enabling the individual flavour of each of three types of fish come through the 'supporting' sauce. Duncan's enthusiasm for the food and his beer was evident and he , and the rest of the front of house staff, seemed to manage to give each table time and personal service without ever losing site of the needs of other tables. This was undoubtedly excellent dining with warm service to deliver it. Highly recommended.

I ordered the steak, my girlfriend the catch of the day, the vegetarian option and pizza was also ordered. All of it was spectacular. I would have expected the same from a city centre top restaurant and here I was surprised at the quality being offered here. The restaurant was homely and relaxing and the menu was short but with exciting choices. There was a positive feel about the place and staff were great. The food was wholesome and tasty. Wines (and home made beers) were also good. One suggestion I would make to Ceabhar is to change the cheese board picture used for advertising on Trip advisor as it does not do justice to the restaurant's skills.

Ever since discovering Ceabhar - and its hospitable, ever-cheery owners, Polly and Duncan - we've been back again and again. What draws us? Yes, the food, but first the welcome. The warmth and passion that these two surf-loving Geordies bring to their cooking and their service. They love what they do - and never rest on their laurels. They'll chat with you, give advice on where the good waves will be tomorrow, and make you feel like Tiree has always been your home as well as theirs. And then the food... Polly's pizza, tick. (The best pizza dough this side of Rome.) Spicy chorizo starter, tick. (Our daughter pre-orders to make sure there's some left.) But the range is as wide as Polly's imagination - local produce (Duncan will nip into the garden for fresh herbs as the meal is cooking), fabulous meat, a developing line in gluten free mains and desserts - and all accompanied by carefully chosen Scottish beers, including in 2016 for the first time, Duncan's own brews. There is in all this a blend of comforting home cooking with real attention to detail. But if the food and the welcome is always of an incredibly high standard (and remember, this is a small island we're talking about), the setting is second to none - on the edge of the Atlantic, with the crags of Kenovara nearby and Skerryvore winking in the distance. Get a real Tiree sunset and you won't want to move from your seat. And why should you? Just ask Duncan for another beer.

We never visit Tiree without visiting Polly and Duncan for some of their genuine hospitality and great food. Concentrating on quality and a very warm welcome, you'll find that each table is only booked once each evening so we'd recommend early booking, especially in high season. Ceabhar is just the right size and in a stunning location. The views from the restaurant are amazing, but then this small island is one of the most beautiful places you'll find. The service is attentive and just right; not too much but you're never left to feel unattended. The food is delicious and imaginative with many of the ingredients being very locally sourced, or even grown by Polly and Duncan themselves. There's a fine menu with additional and ever changing specials always available, a good selection of soft drinks, wines and now Duncan's very own island brewery. Eat earlier in the evening, if you want to choose from the full range on offer that day.An ethical approach to sourcing their supplies, to minimising their waste output and developing a sustainable approach to all aspects of their business helps create a really lovely aura around this place. If he has some on the go, do try some of Duncan's homebrew if a golden ale is your tipple of choice

Had a fabulous birthday meal at Ceabhar on 26 June. The staff had to work extra hard due to the island power cut, which delayed service. Duncan, Polly & both of the young waitresses made everyone feel very welcome & service was brilliant!! Would definitely recommend & will be back again for another visit. Vegetarian options on the menu were great! Thanks to you all.

Good quality and unusual dishes, pleasant decor, beautiful views over the machair, and a warm welcome from the very friendly staff/owners who have an obvious passion for good local food. Excellent pork in rice paper and seaweed starter, and so many delicious desserts, it was difficult to choose. Excellent value - you would easily pay twice as much for the same meal in Edinburgh - highly recommended.

With fairly few options on the island at the time of our visit in May 2015 we guessed in advance that the Ceabhar would probably be the best choice for an evening meal and in practice this turned out to the case. Nowhere on Tiree is a huge distance from your base however with limited transport options you may need a designated driver to get you here to Sandaig, a hamlet with a handful of houses and sadly a closed and deteriorating building which once housed the Island Life Museum. That said the setting is picturesque and as you pull up off the road across the grass to park in front of the restaurant it’s a different experience. Sheep freely roam around the area and the sun was in the early stages of setting and casting long shadows over the hills nearby.Booking is essential due to the limited covers and its popularity. On the night we visited it was busy as we arrived at 7.30pm however by 9.00pm only ourselves and a table of six who had arrived a bit late were left but the overall atmosphere was relaxing and friendly. On entering there is a cozy bar area which then opens to the conservatory where diners can overlook the surroundings - every seat has a view. We were greeted by Duncan an amiable Geordie and co-owner of the restaurant - Polly, his wife, was doing the cooking. In addition to the small but decent menu choice there were a few “specials” and despite the beer selection probably outnumbering the wines available we nevertheless managed to get a nice enough bottle for £17.50.Starters for both of us was Black Pudding and onions served with salad (£6 each), followed by mains of Brown Trout (£14) and a Steak (£15) and to finish Homemade Profiteroles (£6) and a cheese selection (£6). Total cost of our three course meal for two with wine was £70.The starters were tasty. The trout (a “special“ on the night) was served in full with head and tail and I could have done with a side plate to help clear the debris. It was simply baked with lemon and the flesh parted from the bones with little effort making it perfectly enjoyable. My wife’s steak was cooked medium rare as requested and met with approval too. Both dishes were accompanied with a shared selection of fresh vegetables. In keeping with the honest policy of the restaurant Duncan provided us with a laugh when we queried the cheese selection, advising us that it too was locally sourced… from the Co-Op! It was nice enough as expected with a good selection of biscuits and apple however it would have been good to have had something a bit more local than Saint Agur. (There are plenty of Scottish varieties and even some from Mull which isn’t too far away). The homemade profiteroles were very good however I couldn’t be too distracted from the fantastic sunset which was happening outside and ventured out with my camera to capture the scene. The drive back to our rented cottage at Balephetrish Bay was one of frequent stops to admire the sun going down on another pleasant day on Tiree.

This was one of the best meals out we've ever had! With a warm ambience, friendly welcome and spectacular sunset views, it was already off to a good start. The meal itself was even better - thoughtfully-prepared local dishes that were chock-full of flavour and fantastic wines to complement (nice selection of malts too!). We'll be booking another trip over very soon!

This is a great, friendly place to eat on Tiree. Good setting and excellent menu of 'specials'. Duncan goes to alot of trouble to explain the different dishes which, in our experience on the night we visited, were very different to the usual run of the mill meals. In addition, they have a healthy eating award but don't let that put some of you off, there was a delicious sounding chocolate squidgy dessert on offer. This place is a must if you want to eat on Tiree.

An impressive menu, not least because even though it is relatively short there is only a limited supply of specials, which is a good sign that you are getting fresh food in a remote place like this. A friendly welcome and pleasant view. It is not cheap, but priced appropriately for such high standards.

Had dinner here on a Saturday evening while on Tiree. There are limited places to eat on the island so we booked which is recommended.Lovely views from the dining area and the menu offered sufficient choice and was varied enough to cater for most tastes. It was refreshing to discover that Scottish real ale was on offer too and the impression is welcoming. If one thing marred our experience it was the way our waiter (probably the owner) "waxed lyrical" about every dish including the full description of dishes including desserts and how many were left!! We can read menus and do not need all this information repeated. I'm not usually one to be too critical but this became a bit overpowering and somewhat annoying. That said the food was very good and we enjoyed our meal. If on Tiree we would return to Ceabhar.

Went last night with five adults and six children. Restaurant had plenty of good atmosphere and accommodated this large party well. The owner was very friendly and child centred, and thanks for supplying the opportunity for the children to play outside! The restaurant is small but lovely in the dark evening with good lighting and music in the background. The food was lovely with generous portions , although is not inexpensive. Both the children and adults enjoyed their experience, the salmon pâté and haggis were particularly recommended. Definitely worth a visit on this amazing island.

Ceabhar was recommended to us a by a colleague who had never been able to eat there but who had heard great things. My fiance and I were so glad that we'd booked well in advance as we had a wonderful experience - a fitting end to a lovely 5 days on Tiree. Duncan was a very welcoming and genial host and Polly provided us with a beautifully cooked and presented meal - including two of my favourites, smoked venison and scallops. I would have preferred oatcakes with my cheesesboard but this is a very minor quibble. Polly's Heavenly Chocolate Cake was my fiance's idea of dessert heaven! The location is fabulous and the fact that Duncan had to go and shoo away the cows that were sheltering near the cars from the wet south-westerly was an earthy reminder of the bond between animals, islanders and the weather! A fabulous little restaurant but big in quality, style and atmosphere - thank you!

This turned out to be one of the best eating experiences I have ever had. Duncan is a great host, enthusiastic, attentive and charming whilst Polly is simply a great chef. The menu is tempting but the daily specials are even more mouth watering. My wife had The chicken stuffed with jalapeños, wrapped in smoked bacon and marinated in a spicy tomato sauce. I chose the herring filled with rhubarb and apple chutney. Both were served with fresh vegetables (perfectly cooked). The deserts were tremendous also. I recommend the cheeseboard.. Our kids ate from the children's menu. They enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the owners even provided circus bicycles for them to play on in the garden. The views are just stunning. You need to book in advance as it is very popular. The selection of ales, from Loch Fyne, are well worth a try!

We ate here one lovely summer evening whilst on a weeks holiday to tiree. The views are very good, especially if you sit at the back and get a view of Tirees amazing sunset. The service from Duncan is very thorough and friendly making you feel very at home. The food dished up by polly is of a high standard. There was alot of dishes not available but That is just down to popularity! The only reason it is not a 5 is that I ordered the steak on seeing another dinners massive slab of cow, only to be abit let down on the size of mine in comparison. My partner had the seafood pie which was lovely but a smaller portion to what we are used to dinning out at home and priced higher. That may be a reflection of island prices, we only ate out once whilst we were away. There isn't an abundance of choice on the island to be fair. Had a lovely last evening to our hols and can't recommend tiree enough!

We were a group of 7 scuba divers from Tyneside on an adventurous trip to dive Skjerryvore and other sites around Tiree and Coll. The guesthouse was perfect for our needs with cosy sitting rooms, a well-equipped kitchen and very good standard bedrooms, most with en-suite bathrooms. Add facilities to wash and store gear, a compressor to fill our bottles and ample space to store cars and boats. And finally, a great restaurant next door with superb food and drink for those days when we didn't feel like self-catering. If that wasn't enough, our hosts Duncan and Polly could not have been more friendly and helpful. Thanks, you two. We would recommend Ceabhar to anyone, but especially divers, wind-surfers, cyclists etc.

Great hospitality and top nosh by Duncan and Polly. Nowhere else goes close. My son and myself were visiting for the Isle of Tiree Half Marathon. We had booked for 1930hrs but arrived early as it was difficult to predict how long it might take to cycle in the wind. Duncan was very accommodating and brought our reservation forward and is a great host.

This review relates to the restaurant. This was our first visit to Tiree and we were staying with some friends. Following our drive to Oban, the 4hr journey by Ferry turned out to be an enjoyable addition to our short break. The Calmac service was excellent on both legs. Prompt boarding along with good services on board. Delighted we took this option as opposed to flying. We arrived at Ceabhar on a very stormy, wet evening. We were immediately welcomed and the warm comfortable surroundings made as quickly at ease. Although the menu wasn't extensive, there was a very good choice of 'specials' available. I had the Chorizo to start with, followed by Lamb, and chocolate cake to finish. All my courses and the side dishes were excellent. Extremely well flavoured and great ingredients. this was mirrored across our party. Some did find the cod slighly dry but this was our only negative observation. There was also a good choice of wines at reasonable rates. Our bill came to approx. £40 per person for 3 courses and 3 glasses of wine. Would I go back? Like a shot. The only downside would be the 8 hr trip but I would have no hesitation recommending both this restaurant and a voyage to see the many stunning vistas that Tiree has to offer. Go visit!

We ate here two nights in a row in early August. The menu changed each night so there were new things to try. We gelt some of the food, such as the starters, were over priced for the portion (£8.50 for two small croquettes) but they were delicious. However, the slices of cake we got for pudding were easily big enough for two (the picture shows two half slices on one plate) and each only £6.50. The cakes and puddings we had were all top notch A*** (esp choc ganache) so worth coming in just for coffee and cake even if you don't have a meal. We booked in advance via WhatsApp for 6pm dinner: Wed night it was quiet but the Thursday was heaving so glad we booked. The food we had was c. £20 for a main course and was really well made and delicious. Portions aren't huge but were sufficient. There isn't a kids menu so the first night we shared two meals between the three of us and had pudding, but the second night we had a main each. The Island Cafe is cheaper than the Coll Hotel and has a nice home made, welcoming feel to it with local art and two linked rooms, one with sofas and tables and the other just tables. The serving staff were nice young people. My partner also had coffee and cake here and the cakes really are very good (I hear the Chelsea buns are to die for too) and my coffee-snob partner says this is the best coffee available on Coll.
