We met friends for brunch there this weekend. The cafe is very welcoming and the staff extremely friendly. The menu/specials sounded so exciting that we ordered 5 dishes between 4 of us - Brisket chilli with cauliflower rice, Prawn with avocado on a milk bun, and Huevos Rancheros. All of the dishes were absolutely fantastic and unusual. The coffee is also extremely good. We will definitely be back (and will no doubt become regulars!)

Visited for coffee / cake with partner and teenagers during Oct holidays - amazing coffee and loved the banana bread with peanut butter frosting, so returned for breakfast the next (amazing Mumbai eggs for me!) Nothing predictable here, imaginative, interesting food, well thought-out, prepared and presented. Good value. Lovely staff who genuinely seemed to appreciate our custom.Clean facilities. Highly recommend.

Initially went in for coffee and cake one afternoon, it was so good we went back the next day for breakfast. Had Mumbai eggs, flavours delicious and brisket and again great flavours, chef really knows his stuff. Teens had sausage rolls which looked great as well. Love the feel of the place and it’s pretty great value for what you get. A must visit if you’re in the area.

Our last visit to Helensburgh was in 2016, and we remembered The Ginger-Breadman and thought we'd re-visit again for breakfast. Imagine our disappointment to find the East Clyde Street place shut (open weekends only apparently). But further investigation led us to Sinclair Street- new premises only opened this week! COVID 19 rules are in full swing, but we were shown to a table that was thankfully free... it's very popular. The chap at the next table had what appeared to be a very enticing sausage breakfast. But we opted for a roll with black pudding for his lordship, and a roll with bacon and egg for me. Wow! The brioche rolls tip-top fresh, and super tasty ingredients. The kitchen is compact, so you can see the chefs putting together your food, but also baking and decorating sponges - and the lovely fresh produce used. Our server, a very personable young lady, was working her socks off. Thank you. One minor quibble? The cup size for cappuccino is a bit small!

The GBM is off to a great start! I popped in today which was its first day of being opened in its new premises. The coffees we ordered were perfect and definitely one of the best in town - finally!! I ordered a croissant too which was so fresh and delicious. I will certainly be back to try out the food. What a breath of fresh air this place is!

Not artisan baking. Not catering to any allergy clients. Bread found hard..tasteless and not like bakers in Glasgow or Edinburgh. Average is the rating for poor improvement after corona closure. Little town need a spirit lift with these key trade shops..to compete with brand vendors it would appear.

Excellent, delicious home baking goodness of a very high standard. Carry out quiche, sandwiches (nothing ordinary here) and wraps. Assorted fresh bead and cakes a real afternoon treat for me and my friend. We had about 6 cakes between us (some to take home) as we couldn’t make our minds up given the choice. All were scrumptious! Only we niggle, need a seat inside or a couple of stools for sitting in, and some tables and chairs outside for summer. However, my friend and I just perched in the window and enjoyed our cake n coffee there. Maybe bigger premises in the future, I am sure this would pay off.

I’m very sorry to give a negative review, the first one I have done but this cafe was so far from what I had expected that I felt I needed to let others know of my experience. This cafe came up as the no.1 cafe in Helensburgh with over 50 excellent reviews. I don’t know who has been writing these reviews but I have to say it has made me lose confidence in Tripadvisor recommendations. Firstly, the cafe is really a bakery with a little counter and two little tables in the window bays next to the door. It was very shabby inside but even this I could have tolerated if the quality of the food had been as good as the reviews said it was. I arrived on a Monday, perhaps this is not a good day to visit. The only choices were either warm (not hot) sausage rolls, tomato and chilli soup or one type of quiche. I opted for a sausage roll and it was a nice flavour but it had herbs and spices in it which my companion couldn’t manage. The cup of tea arrived with such a small amount of milk that I needed to request some more and the portion of butter and jam served with the very average scone was scant. All in all, I did not recognise this cafe from the one in the reviews. I will be more discerning in the future.

The ginger bread bakehouse has recently opened in Helensburgh. It is a small take-out bakery and coffee shop that serves the best coffee I've had in a long time...in fact, the best coffee I've had in Scotland, even compared to the fancy coffee shops on byres rd in Glasgow! The bakes and breads are amazing...I'm glad I don't live nearby because I'd be there every day!

This is a special place - the bread is superb, great bakes (the still warm cinnamon buns were incredible), great sandwiches and excellent coffee. The Ginger-Bread Man is a fabulous bakery on Clyde Street in Helensburgh.Whether you want to buy some bread and cake, sit in for a nice bowl of soup and a sandwich or join in one of the fabulous pop up restaurant evenings, you will not be disappointed unless . . . . . . unless you forget to order your favourite bread on a busy day. Sourdough is particularly popular so, if you really want to be sure of getting yours, order it at least a day in advance. GBM sourdough takes 24 hours to make from mixing through kneading and proving to baking so they can't just rustle you up a loaf at short notice. I always take at least two loaves so that I can slice one to freeze for toast.

Popped in for a naughty cake on a rainy afternoon in November. I had the chocolate brownie with pecans and salted caramel. Been in three times since moved here. The cakes 'look' less fancy than some places but the proof is in the pudding so to speak, and I learnt that good baking doesn't need tarting up ;) all the stuff I've ever chosen was yummy, from the homemade hot cross buns, to their "bowl n bread" and do not miss out on their sandwiches stuffed with roast beef! They seem to have most things right and I reckon soon enough they will need more tables in their wee shop.

Went out with a friend, looking for a hearty bowl of soup on Easter Monday. Our first port of call was Ardarden but it was mobbed, quite rightly so, but we we chose not to wait. Randomly headed to a cafe in Cardross but they had run out of soup of the day - in retrospect quite glad as returned to Helensburgh and popped into the Gingerbread Man. So glad we did. They couldn't have been more welcoming or accommodating. They too had run out of the soup of the day but kindly offered to defrost a couple of choices from their freezer - tomato and chorizo or broccoli and stilton - as a seasoned soup maker, its so refreshing that they can think out of the lentil soup box! Both were delicious and served with homemade breads. Unfortunately mine was served a little on the cool side. They were overly apologetic and rectified immediately. In addition they insisted I shouldn't be charged, albeit I was more than happy to do so. We didn't have cake although the choices were vast and all looked delicious. If you haven't been there yet, please give it a try - you won't be disappointed. They also do celebration cakes and outside catering. In addition, they supply homemade bread and cakes to a number of our local eateries. Albeit they are slightly out of town, I would urge you to support this local, hardworking business.

Found this cafe by accident and so glad we did. Beautifully clean, smart and modern - you may eat inside or out. As well as light lunches, they do some serious food and there is a really good choice. I had a cumberland sausage and onion baguette; very generous with the filling and good quality sausage. With it came five different salads; the carrot and sunflower one had a particularly delicious dressing. My husband had a ham and cheese baguette and he was equally enthusiastic. Highly recommended.
