Went for a few pints. We were served by Tom and given perfect suggestions for what pints to try. He gave us perfect recommendations and helped ensure we had a positive visit. Would recommend visiting here as Tom made our visit so pleasant!
Hotel itself is lovely. Basic but good enough. Happy to stay here again. Room big enough for two. The Bar is lovely and the beer garden , especially if it’s a dry and sunny day.
Unfortunately, the restaurant was a disappointment. Booked for dinner due to some lovely reviews. Wasn’t expecting much but the food are overpriced. Soup for £10? Skipped the starter and ordered Venison casserole. Waited for an hour for our meal. Yes, an hour! It wasn’t a busy evening, so not sure what taking them ages. Waiting staff are lovely though. Food arrived an hour later, and just looked like a total mess. Presentation was just very sloppy. Looked liked everything was just thrown into the plate in a rush. Sides of seasonal vegs were overcooked, all of them. Potato gratin looked and tasted awful. Tried a bit of the venison meat but just can’t pass the fact that they’re charging £22 for a mediocre main that looked awful and tasted like a watered down stew. Didn’t really eat it and waited for my other half to finish his meal which he enjoyed. Told the waiting staff about the issue and they only took the drinks off from the total costs which was really petty. If you’re gonna charge a £22 pound main, at least make it presentable and eatable. For the future guests, do your self a favour and drive to Braemar, the flying stag at the Fife Arms does a fantastic pub grub with similar price of food, or go to Blairgowrie. Certainly won’t be eating in their restaurant again.
chicken was so chewy i couldn't eat it, the texture really put me off. the food was pretty bland and overall wouldn't order from here again unfortunately
Food good pity 1staff member was so bloody rude. I'm not a mind reader and you don't have a sign to order at top of shop before you wait in queue to pay. Won't be back!!!
Booked a table for 8pm. Arrived and was seated on time. Starter appeared around 8.35…..main course at 9.40…..green slop Thai curry, bland, hardly any rice.
Waiting staff were very apologetic and kept explaining that delay was down to it being Saturday evening, and a full restaurant!!! Imagine that!?
More fool me. That’s three times I’ve found this place lacking.
Markets itself as a as a fairly well to do venue however it very much is not.
We were a group of 11 for my fathers birthday. We had to order in advance which I imagined should have allowed for a smooth fast service, it wasn’t even close. The mains for whatever reason started coming out with the starters, we sent the mains back. Starters were mediocre. Mains arrived 50 minutes later having obviously sat under the hot lamps of the kitchen pass for the duration so were very much dry. When raised with the server they said they would report it to the kitchen… nothing was done. What was edible was eaten and we waited another 50 minutes for desserts which were also mediocre. We were in the restaurant for 2.5 hrs which is an obscene amount of time for a 3 course meal never mind one that’s be en ordered in advance.
The price of the dishes was at the very high end for what they were.
It wasn’t busy at all there were around 15 other customers soon no idea what took so long.
The place lacks atmosphere.
The decor is naff and the choice of furniture is poor for a restaurant, getting in and out of the chairs around the table is difficult and the servers a forced to either lean over you or hand you the plates.
The place could do so much better.

We booked an afternoon tea as part of a 60th birthday treat. We were not sure what to expect and we're half expecting mass produced clagy scones and cream in plastic pots as one often gets in many places where the cafe is an after thought. However nothing could have been further from our experience! It felt like an afternoon tea you might have expected at a high end hotel with an experienced and very skilled pastry chef. We were absolutely blown away by the quality, presentation.and attention to detail and the service was also excellent.
We had been round the Gardens exhibition and the afternoon tea was themed around a Persian garden. The flavours were fabulous, and expertly balanced, an absolute super treat, not to be missed!
Also, if you book for an afternoon tea you get a reserved table over looking the river.
