The views are spectacular but unfortunately the service did not match up. I had a cheese scone with chutney and one small portion of butter which wouldn't have sufficed as the scone looked a bit dry. When I asked for more butter I was charged 30p but could have swapped my small dish of chutney for the piece of butter as an alternative. No other coffee shop I frequent has ever charged for more butter, a bit mean considering the cost of everything on the menu. Can understand why the restaurant wasn't even half full. I certainly won't be returning any time soon.

The view is superb but the food is disappointing and very expensive. Service is hit and miss. I'll bring a picnic next time

I had a delightful experience at Tatha Café in the Dundee V&A! Whether you’re starting your day with a warm scone and coffee or stopping by for a light lunch, this café has you covered. The menu changes daily, offering fresh and exciting options, and everything I tried was delicious. The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming, perfect for relaxing or refuelling with a coffee and cake. Highly recommend visiting for a lovely break during your time at the V&A!

Great venue. Warm, welcoming staff at the Tatha. My cousin and I had afternoon tea which was nicely presented and looked appetizing. Sorry, but it was revolting. All fur coat and no knickers. Everything was dry, sour or mouldy tasting especially that cream crap on the potato scone. It seemed like everything was left on the pass under the lights for hours. Haddock was dry and rubbery. Scones were doughy and not baked through. Beetroot crisp wasn’t. More like cardboard. The macaroons were lovely so they were probably bought in. I was looking forward to this and ended up very disappointed especially after paying forty quid. Avo tea is cheaper at the Dome and the Dean Park hotel do a fantastic, hand crafted, superior one. So whoever made an arse of ours, please visit the DP hotel and experience their avo tea….you might learn something.

Unfortunately I had a disappointing experience The thin and tasteless lentil soup radically upset my tummy and the bread served with it was bland and tasteless as well

Cannot fault the setting or the service really (we ordered at the counter). The food was what let things down, sadly, on this occasion. We paid a significant sum for just 2 small drinks and a baguette 🥖. This was with a view to sharing said baguette - which wasn't large--. The baguette was soggy and very sweet through an overly large amount of sweet chutney. It was billed as ham and cheese so the additional thick layer of chutney came a bit of a surprise! Perhaps we should have said something in hindsight but we had heard such great things about Tatha. Looking around at all the eager diners, the smiling faces and chatter they must have been doing something right!? Felt sadly let down and deflated after a great visit to the V and A which hosts the restaurant.

Afternoon Tea / late lunch. Absolutely superb. We have eaten here before and loved our experience then (request from the children - please reinstate the chicken goujons on the children's menu...apparently, 'best ever') and so came again. This time we had the special Japanese-themed Afternoon Tea. It was delicious and - like the best Japanese food, delicate in flavour, with a beautiful aesthetic. Audrey & Taylor looked after us and gave a 5* service with a warm welcome and huge patience as we navigated a mix of lunch dishes (amazing salads) and the two afternoon teas (for us but devoured by the young!). The chef is obviously very talented, with passion and flair apparent in all the food we ate. I know other reviews carp at the headline prices and I am not pretending it is cheap from a monetary perspective but, like so much in life, you get what you pay for. With that in mind we felt the value proposition - food, service, stunning view over The Tay and atmosphere was a 10/10.

Beautiful location but the kitchen needs to be a lot better. We’ve been a few times but it’s for the view, not the food. It’s poor quality and overpriced. Bit of a shame, a squandered opportunity. You wouldn’t find food this poor in an iconic building in any other European city.

Really enjoyed eating here! As a vegetarian I was so excited by how many options I had! We went for the cauliflower soup and mustard scone. Thought we would have room to get a couple of side salads too, but the soup ended up being more than enough! Not too shabby for only 7 euros!!

The food was just ok, but took ages to come out of the kitchen, so those eating cold food had finished by the time it arrived. It was also oddly difficult to figure out what was on offer - there was only one A4 handwritten menu with the day’s specials on, which made the already confusing service a bit difficult to navigate. Overpriced given the small portion sizes.

Overpriced. I ordered two cold salad type choices for £9. Got a spoonful of each and was then invited to spend another £1 on a few lettuce leaves. One salad had way too many large onion chunks it - spoilt the balance of the dish. I don't know what the hot drinks system is. Another customer and I waited 10 minutes for coffee and tea at a quiet time. Plenty staff but only one making the drinks. Like so much of the V&A, the space is good but better use could be made of it.

Certain food was ok but way overpriced for what it was. I had an egg salad baguette and the garnish and dressing rendered it soggy and unpalatable. Even drinks (Cans) were like 3 quid for 1.

I am not a moaner by nature, always looking for the positive. Staff were great and welcoming, as were the surroundings and ambience. Limited menu, in my eyes is a good thing as you expect quality to be focussed. However, after two courses came away hungry- I am not a big chap, 5’ 9” 12 stone, normal appetite. My posh prawn cocktail was great, the crispy skin chicken wings, not crispy. Your local chippy would be embarrassed to serve you the smallest piece of haddock I have ever seen, I mean come on Apex, where is your quality control, don’t you want repeat clients? Coffee, what is so difficult about having a hot cup of coffee? I returned it, as it was luke warm, the replacement was also luke warm, why doesn’t anybody warm the cup, I like to enjoy my coffee at leisure, not gulp it down before it freezes over. The waitress kindly discounted the cost, I spend a lot of time in Edinburgh and I have to say, I have a far better dining experience there. Come on Apex, put some effort in and put Dundee on the map. Oh, did I mention £9.50 for a glass of house wine? I never tip when being ripped off by wine cost. Lets get real shall we?
