Over the years when visiting my dear Cousin Joy in Pewsey I have made a point of popping in to this wonderful bakery. Bacon roll bursting with at least four layers of tasty hot bacon, a very jammy doughnut & an Eccles cake for just over FIVE pounds in London this combo would knock you back for at least £8! The range on offer ticks every box of quality and choice. If you want a trip down memory Lane there are long forgotten delights on offer yes I must try the Lardy cake next time! Bread selection to die for and lovely welcoming staff. If you have never been to Marshalls get on down!

My daughter and I stopped and had a coffee and snack here when passing through Devizes last Friday. I was pleasantly surprised that the coffee was of an amazingly high standard - they offer "Proper" coffee and it really was. We also had a freshly cooked snack too that was lovely. And the service was lovely, really friendly. We can't recommend The Italian Job coffee enough. 5 star plus rating.

I came across this small shop & restaurant by accident a few weeks ago (I was doing a course in a nearby barn). The lunch was superb, every bite. A platter of smoked foods of exceptional quality, at a very reasonable price. A real find. I'm not a local, otherwise I'd be a regular. The next door garden centre, where I ate before I found the smokery, was doing a roaring lunch trade with very mediocre food at about the same price. I hope word gets out about this place because it was very quiet and it would be a tragedy if it went out of business because no one knows it's there. I would advise anyone to go.

I had the pleasure of inviting a group of friends to a fixed menu evening meal to celebrate a significant anniversary at the Tale of Spice. From the freshly laundered gleaming table linen, the smartly dressed staff, the nicely timed arrival of the courses, the generous portions, the sheer variety of what was set before us, everything was spot on and excellent. It would have ben near impossible to improve and all at a very competitive price. All round excellent.

I've stopped in the pleasant and tidy upstairs annexe above their microbrewery a couple of times. Will definitely book again. (Also handy for trains to London). The Crown Inn was bit quiet on a mid-week afternoon, but welcoming. Initially having a guest ale whilst reading, I nipped out for a light bite to eat and to bring my car up for unpacking. (Car park in Pewsey by The Bouverie Hall has a footpath short-cut. For train travellers, a similar handy footpath from the nearby railway station). Back in The Crown for their own brewed beer - enjoying a half of each of the two on the taps. A quick chat with The Barman / Landlord / Owner, then sat by the window typing up some work on a tablet, without spreading out and assuming it was a WFH space, at the same time enjoying the lack of distraction. Will try to get back on the days they do food too...

Quirky little place in a quirky little village, my son and I were camping nearby and needed a cooked breakfast so we gave them a go, the breakfast was good, my son was allowed to change some options on his which a lot of places won't do. My only criticism is that it could do with a good clean especially the floors.

Love this traditional and rustic country pub which I try to visit a few times a year having grown up down the road in Pewsey and as my mother is buried at the village church down the lane. A real nostalgia trip for me when going to The Golden Swan! We've never had a bad meal here. Generous portions of tasty, home-cooked food at a good price, excellent local beers (6X from Devizes a particular favourite of mine) and a quiet and traditional setting. I've often visited on cycle rides with friends as well as with the family and the pub works for both really well. Loads of tranquil outdoor seating if you visit in the summer too. The landlord was great bantering with our kids when they asked a heap of questions about the bits and bobs around the pub, also when we got onto the topic of football. A friendly, family-run country pub that are becoming fewer and further between, so always keen to support this place to enjoy a beer and a burger.

Last night we ordered and collected 3 cod and chips along with a pie and some sides. All 3 pieces of Cod were the same size and exactly the same shape ( not Cod shape more like plaice ) the batter was like bread. It screamed Tesco frozen value. Inside the fish was dry and brown, no flavour and was very hard to cut without it flying off the plate. The pie was disgusting the inside looked like it had already been eaten once. The mushy pies had absolutely no taste what so ever and the curry sauce was so full of salt it went straight in the bin alone with the other £30 worth of food.

Aware this has been recently opened having been closed for many months - I sadly feel if they don’t improve this pub it will close again it has the potential to be a lovely homely pub but at present it’s very tired & need of some TLC as it’s looking very tired & old and says something when it only offers two very basic gins
