The landlords tea mug kind of sums up the experience, “Do I look like of f*****g people person” clearly not. 2* earned as the soup was very good but the pub was empty and the welcome less than welcoming. Try smiling Mr Landlord, you need to drive the atmosphere not turn it sour.

The worst Sunday lunch we’ve ever had. Tough tastless beef, the most unappetising looking “roast” chicken that looked more like it had been boiled, congealed gravy & watery tasteless veg. Chose to eat outside as the pub smelt weird inside. Absolutely awful. We were on a barge trip for the weekend to celebrate a birthday & ended up laughing a lot at my husband trying to cut the meat whilst muttering to himself. Such a shame as the environs are lovely and as your choices are restricted along the canal this could be a wonderful watering hole along the way, can’t believe people actually choose Sunday lunch here. We ended up wrapping the meat in napkins & giving it to a dog owner during our walk back to the boat.

Our first night in NYC, we chose to dine at the relatively new restaurant The Golden Swan in the West Village. We arrived early and had two well made cocktails (Calvados Sidecar with absinthe and a classic Negroni) in the Wallace Bar (named for the owner of the original turn of the century Golden Swan on 4th St.). We then moved to the upstairs cozy dining room for dinner. Chef Doug Brixton, formerly of Michelin starred Bâtard, prepared a Poached Halibut and Crescent Duck for our dinner that were both perfectly cooked and pleasingly presented by the quietly efficient waitstaff. The friendly and knowledgeable wine captain, Penny, suggested an on point Morgon Gamay and a Guimaro Mencia to pair with our dishes. Our chocolate Marjolaine dessert with coffee ice cream was a heavenly finish to a quintessential NY dining experience.

We love this pub and take our Grandaughters every year for Sunday lunch. The owners are welcoming and we highly rcommend the lunch which is cooked beautifully and always a generous helping. We love the fact that you can order in advance and not long to wait. We have also had evening meals here which are also great and well priced. We don't live locally but feel we would like to make the journey more often as such great food.

We went on a walk along the K&A canal my map app showed a pub near to the canal. We are so glad we found this pub. Such a lovely old style village pub. Asked if the did food. It was Sunday so they only did Sunday lunch. We ordered two. Woow. So impressed by the Sunday lunch. Good sized plates. Lots of meat with the veg , stuffing , Yorkshire pud and the best proper roast potatoes ever. Service was great. Also the attention to detail. My partner had chicken I had the pork. The gravy came in two gravy boats. One was for the Chicken dinner and the other for The pork. There are not many pubs or restaurants that would do that. Thank You to every staff member. Will visit again for sure and recommend this amazing place for Sunday lunch.

We visited here as we stayed in a local air bnb and saw this was nearby. Firstly, the pub only serves food from 5.30 onwards and isn’t open on Tuesdays so do check before you arrive. The Facebook page and website don’t seem to be up to date… However! That being said! It’s a lovely lovely pub. It serves local ales and has a nice menu. We ordered pork belly and steak, it was simple, rustic food done well. The mash with the pork belly was done by hand, and very buttery, very nice. The pork itself wasn’t crackly as described but was a whole rolled joint of slow cooked roast pork belly which was amazing. Couldn’t get better value for money anywhere else. The steak had home fried onion rings and the steak itself was huge, again incredible value for money. The cask beer was beautifully kept and served local brewery ales. Would definitely return if in the area and would thoroughly recommend to any one near by. They also have camping facilities.

We've visited this pub numerous times over the past 6 years and witnessed a gradual decline in the standard of the food. Visited on Friday (19th Aug 22) for an evening meal and finally ordered the beef and ale pie. What a travesty of a meal; the pie was a bowl of beef and ale stew topped, well thrown on, with a pathetic puff pastry disc. This isn't a pie, they tried, and masively failed, with this aweful "deconstructed" pie. It was a poor mimicry of a pie and taste not nice though the pub dog liked it. The veg were under cooked. O! And the chips. all 14 of them.

I have popped in here a few times over the years . I've never found the Landlord and Landlady to be rude they just don't have what it takes to run a pub . For instance one evening we popped in for a pint, we were the only people at the bar and the landlady was sat at her computer for five minutes or so before she got up and served us . Another time we went for their steak night and I asked the landlord if he could give me a cut worth about 20 pounds and he couldn't even estimate that , he just said its not how we do it you indicate how much you want . I mean I don't know how much steak I can get for that price , I'd never been there before for the steak night and surely he must have had some idea . In the end we didn't bother and went to the pub in Bottlesford instead for a meal and we have never been back here food since . Its well worth it if you want to sit outside and have drink and chill with some friends in nice surroundings its perfect for that and the pub itself is lovely its just a shame its not in the hands of owners who are more welcoming , friendly and helpful . Its the attitudes of those owners that earn it a two star rating .

I have to wonder why these people run what could be an amazing venue. Our welcome was haphazard at best, wasnt even sure the young chap in the weird gazebo collection point/store/bin area was staff. He couldn't find our booking but as we had insisted we had booked we were allowed inside. It was cold, with an unpleasant atmosphere. The waiter had absolutely no idea what he was doing, I have never had worse service anywhere. Despite the crazily over the top covid rules he was constantly running his hands through his greasy long fringe and pulling his trousers up over his bum. The food could of been acceptable, but the ham was off, the chips were turning, even the peas tasted like they had been in freezer for too long. When we mentioned the ham the chef/landlady came and had a go at us brandishing a pair of tongs and walked away muttering about god knows what.My sister got a telling off for using the indoor loo. We were not told there was an outside toilet we had to use. We heard the landlady shouting at the other cook about letting her go up there. We felt so uncomfortable, unbelievably unwelcome and would never return!

I ve decided to stop reading the negative reviews of establishments before I go, I'd never go anywhere otherwise, however...I asked the waitress, who was busy with a feather duster on a metal gazebo, what the situation was with food. It wasn't clear, there were no menus and our fellow diners looked just as confused. The waitress looked perplexed, popped into the pub then came back and said "We don't serve food until 12.00" It was 11.58 and I'd only asked for a menu! We got our menus and popped up to the ordering table, seemed like a good idea to do it this way with covid etc. The landlord unnerved me if I'm honest, I felt I wasnt ordering quick enough and when I had to ask my son to run back to the table to confirm an order, the tension in the air was palpable! A chap in his 60s asked for a couple of beers and a portion of chips - he was with his wife and a very old lady, the lad who was serving him conferred with the landlord just inside the pub and then came back and said "we re only doing what's on the menu because of the wedding" Pretty much every item on the menu comes with chips keep in mind. Surely, it wouldn't have been too much hassle to knock up a bowl of chips for an elderly couple and their even more elderly associate. Coming back to the wedding. I phoned on the Friday and asked if I needed to book, the landlord said "no, don't worry about it" we arrived at just before 12.00 and saw a lovely hay bale aisle laid out in the field next to the tables in the garden. At 12.30 a sign goes up telling people that food would stop being served at 13.00. If I'd turned up 30 mins later I doubt we'd have managed to get food! Not even a hint of this situation on my call the day before though!I'd go back I think. It was quite a surreal experience and not entirely unpleasant to be fair. The food wasn't too bad and the setting is divine. Don't think the landlord isnt getting quite the job satisfaction that he craves if I'm honest, but give it a try for yourself. It ll be memorable for sure!

Spent three days camping on the top field, with chums. Usual mix of punters, young & old, some noisier than others. Had house pizza and chips on Saturday night, in the garden. Good value and enjoyed by all. Wadworths beer, nicely kept traditional brews. This no-frills campsite on the edge of the Vale of Pewsey will suit campers who are self sufficient and don't mind the odd punter who stays up 'till late nearby! Mix of camper vans, tents, bikers, youngsters, DfE groups - all sorts! :-) Pub is still quite busy considering the circumstances. We walked and cycled along the canal tow-path and nearby quiet lanes and had a really good time. Lots of mildly exoctic wildlife kept the kids occupied - herons, kites, swallows, bunny rabbits, ponies, etc.etc.We think this place has a distinct non-commercial vibe - everything is a little DIY & 'home-made' and in my view, all the better for it. Folks looking for a slick, commercial set-up might want to look elsewhere. I've been here several times and will be returning.

Camped here for 2 nights with friends and enjoyed the “back to nature” experience of a campsite not overrun with play parks and entertainment nor a price to matchBasically at the Golden Swan you get a reasonable size and level field, grass well cut (no trimmings in your tent) , ground that pegs can go into. No marked pitches which makes for generally spacious experience as groups congregate together and solo campers can have their own space. And you can park next to your tent. Electric hook up is available but we didn’t use.Facilities are shower toilet and washing up space. Hot water is free. But there’s only one shower and one or 2 toilets so you have to wait your turn.Pub was lovely I drink in - we didn’t eat there but a good selection of crisps! 5 minutes down the road and you’re at the canal for pleasant walks if that’s your thingAll in all a good stay and sensible price. Had planned to moor our canal boat at Pewsey and visit the Waterfront but there were no moorings so moved on and moored at Wilcot. Very friendly and comfortable pub but the star was the food, would recommend the game pie. Quite a find, I’d recommend this place.

Discovered as part of our canal boat trip. Just 10 mins walk from our mooring. Beautifull looking thatched roof pub serving good beer and food from a very varied menu.

I’m definitely going to eat here more often. The food gets better every time we visit. Really good portions, piping hot real food. Reasonably priced too. Good fish choices, you need to ask for veggie options, but they do cater for veggies - not sure about vegans. Lovely old country pub, clean and comfortable. Nice garden out the front. Host and hostess (the latter is also the chef) are so nice. TV in saloon bar, but rest of pub is unaffected by this. Quiz night first Sunday in month: must try that, no restaurant service, but apparently the quizzers get fed after the quiz! Sounds like a plan. Love the doggies and the lovely chucks in the back garden.

Our visit was part of our White Horse Gypsy Caravans experience. There is a large campsite next door where we were able to park the caravan and tether the horse. There is a warm welcome in the pub and the beer and food is good quality at reasonable prices. What more can you ask of a country pub ?

A winter evening visit for a group of 4. I had been warned portions were large and they are! Excellent too. A mushroom starter with tasty bread for dipping in the sauce. Maybe I should have stopped there but the pork dish was calling to me! VERY tender meat, and good vegetables, but in the end too much for me. I should have asked for a smaller dish as the landlady chef is very happy to oblige anyone's wishes. Good lighting, conversation, (mostly about Brexit!), others dining of all ages, and well worth a return visit.

So the story is that there was a firework display in our village which terrifies our dog. So the criteria was “is it far enough away, can we eat early and are they dog friendly?” We got a result on all counts – what a lovely place and people. So we had a very good meal, very reasonably priced in nice surroundings and the dog was calm.

We looked for pubs with campsites & picked this one because of its location, near a canal for walks and in a delightful village. The campsite facilities were good, including newly installed washroom, washing up area, shower & gents toilet. The ladies wc accessible 24 hours, was basic though. The food was freshly prepared for every meal and as well as being very good, very reasonably priced, the portions were enormous. Pat & Dave were good hosts and even provided a Sunday roast in the evening for us, as the tables were all booked at lunchtime. The huge meal was very welcome after a long walk along the canal to Honeystreet, as was the well kept real ale. We would certainly visit again. Steve.

My family and I visited this pub on Saturday 1st of September. We were on our canal boat and had planned on stopping over at Pewsey late afternoon/early evening and due to various delays we didn’t get anywhere near where we wanted to, so having moored up finally around 8.40pm we were around 15 minute walk away from the golden swan, knowing that food stopped at 9pm we dashed as quick as we could all being very hungry by that point too. We arrived just before 9 and knew we wouldn’t have much chance for dinner by this point so asked the people behind the bar (as nicely as we possibly could!!) and to our very pleasant surprise they were so accommodating to us (despite actually stopping food at 8.45) and made a fantastic meal for all 6 of us which we well and truly appreciated! A really lovely little pub and cute doggo! Thank you very much!

There are 6 of us that go out once a month to different pubs. We decided to give this pub ago. 4 Mixed Grills 1 Burger and my belly pork. Everyone liked their dinners, thou the lads said their steak all came out done, which was not what they asked for. The belly pork was fabulous. Portion size you won't be disappointed. We would definitely go back. We also had Garlic Mushrooms served mushrooms in garlic oil with little toasted bread. I loved this, reminded me of tapas.

On a trip on the Kennet Avon canal we moored up close to the Golden Swan and went for dinner. Nice enough pub with some locals in on a Friday night which is always a good sign. A decent range of beers was available. However, we didn't feel the welcome was particularly warm.

Came for a drink on a quiet Saturday afternoon. Dirty, messy pub but it was the landlord and his unfriendly manner which really upset me. He told us to keep control of our dog and I apologised but we left with not so much as a goodbye. Yuk! A beautiful little village and I think the villagers deserve something a little more classy. We were made to feel very unwelcome and my husband commented that there was a strange atmosphere. Why run a pub when you clearly hate being a landlord?!

Excellent value for money. Most main courses are under a tenner and enough to fill you up. We ate here 3 days in a row. Camp site at the pub so handy. Food freshly prepared and tasty. We had the whitebait, garlic mushrooms, pate, nachos starters, and belly pork, pheasant pie, sea bass, fish and chips, scampi, mixed grill and burgers for mains. Desserts good too.

We walked up to this lovely country pub from our mooring nearby. It's a sweet, thatched, unpretentious pub and they serve a great Wadsworth beer. I had lamb shank, which came in a bowl with a LOT of gravy - unusual but the lamb just fell off the bone and was absolutely lovely. The mash was delicious, the veg tasty. My partner had pheasant and port pie off the specials menu. The top was a huge puff pastry but he said it was all very good.

Myself and my husband stayed at this campsite, the campsite itself is lovely apart from their dogs using the campsite as a toilet absolutely disgusting one of the dogs we think has got something seriously wrong with it it's got no hair and it's scratching the whole time and also he lets the dogs in the restaurant where it's also begging for food continuously nonstop my husband spoke to the landlord he didn't seem to care but then my husband had a few words with him which he didn't like he soon got his dog out of the restaurant as for the food is not fit for a pig to eat my husband asked for a very rare steak which came out crucified couldn't see the steak with salad which I thought was absolutely ridiculous they advertise on the menu stating the steak is rump but believe you me it's an iron steak and they're charging you for a rump steak I took the safe route and went for scampi cannot go wrong and be very careful when you're buying a pint because he charges whatever he wants we went to pay it £8.50 then again we paid £6 something and then again we went back and it was £7 something but I would never return him and his wife are absolutely disgusting people should not be allowed to run a campsite or the pub

Right next to the Kennet and Avon Canal. We loved it so much that we are returning this weekend along with our bikes so we can explore.

Absolutely dreadful! Advertised a la carte menu replaced with a 'bar' menu. Took the waiter 15 minutes to bring a menu and ask if we'd like drinks 40 minutes for food to arrive which was not hot. The pork belly my colleague had was wrapped in gooey fat not crackling, the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of orange 'something' and the seasonal veg was mashed potato and some peas. The chicken burger was deep fried and tasted of old fryer fat as did the 'tepid' skin in chips. Presentation of the burger was non existent and the two tiny leaves of lettuce were brown. This was fed back to the waiter when he finally returned to our table his response was he'd mention it to the Chef. The after dinner treat of sticky toffee pudding was solid and rubbery, not moist. The tiniest bit of ice cream and a token gesture at the sauce all was tepid. The dining room was cold and drafty. The decor tired and wall paper peeling off the ceiling and walls. Utterly awful experience with nobody interested in the overall shoddiness of the service and food. Really disappointing, especially as this is the closest hotel to work. A real missed opportunity for this Hotel and Restaurant.

Stopped off for a late lunch/early dinner. So much to choose from. Had the steak and ale pie with mash and the steak and kidney pudding with mash. Both delicious, hot and plentiful. Amazing value for money. Staff very attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Lovely place for families, dog friendly too. 5 star on all fronts.
