Aware this has been recently opened having been closed for many months - I sadly feel if they don’t improve this pub it will close again it has the potential to be a lovely homely pub but at present it’s very tired & need of some TLC as it’s looking very tired & old and says something when it only offers two very basic gins

Thursday lunch had fish finger sandwich costing £11.00, this should be good!! Unfortunately not, 4 frozen fish fingers inbetween cheap thin sliced bread with a pot of massed produced colelsaw and some chips. Edible and would happily pay £5.50, certainly not worth £11.00.

We visited on Friday, joined our men who meet for a drink every week. I had the most delicious fish and chips ever, huge piece of freshly Cooked fish, in fact couldn’t manage it all, but my son helped me out. Service was very good too. Excellent value for money with a free drink included.

Popped in here whilst touring the pubs of Pewsey. It's a busy local pub,a Wadworth house so serving their beers. I was very impressed with the beer, the pub and the service. The lounge at the back by the log fire is very comfortable. I wholeheartedly recommended a visit here.

We were camping in the area the weekend the Euros final was on. We asked at several pubs in other villages but no pub had space to watch the map or weren’t showing it. We missed most of the first half when we tried the Royal Oak and really received the warmest welcome. There were seats available, we were offered free cake and scones and landlady was very attentive. This is what a village pub should be like.

No food at the moment but we've eaten here since Martyn took over pre-lockdown and it was great value and very good quality. Now we're able to go back outside again, there is a nice seating area with plenty of tables and the staff are doing a great job in keeping up with the drinks orders. It has a nice vibe and is well worth a visit.

Visited The Royal Oak Pub on our weekend break. A lovely pub with a welcoming log fire. Martin and his staff were very welcoming too. For a village pub it didnt have a 'locals only' atmosphere. Martin and staff were very attentive and we had a lovely chat. Considering covid and the fact he has not long taken over the pub I think its great!!! It would be lovely to come back!!!

The new manager, Martyn, has just reopened the pub following lockdown and if today’s full English breakfast is anything to go by he’ll do well. The breakfast was delicious and freshly cooked. We were a party of eight and had various dietary requests (gluten-free, veggie, no egg, raw tomatoes instead of cooked ...). Nothing was too much trouble, teas and coffees were refilled several times and the Bloody Marys were delicious. The bill was reasonable too. If we had to offer any constructive criticism, we would have liked written menus, the food could have been a bit hotter, and we would have liked to have seen a bill rather than just told the final amount. We would definitely go back though.

Thank you Martyn and all the team at the Royal Oak! (Which is under new management). We were made to feel welcome nothing was too much trouble - offering vegan breakfast which was delicious. My husband enjoyed his breakfast too which was non vegan. There is a large beer garden and dogs welcome. We were given tips for walks as me and my husband didn’t know the area - we came back after finishing the walk (5 hours later) for a couple of drinks. We will be back tomorrow for another breakfast. Came as a party of 8 for Sunday (Bloody Mary) Breakfast, which was excellent, great portion size, really well cooked and superb value. The new owner is still getting the place up and running so it took a little longer than normal to arrive, for which we got pre-emptive updates from the very cheerful and friendly staff, and it was well worth waiting for - sausage, bacon, black pudding, beans, tomatoes, two eggs, spinach, mushrooms and toast all beautifully cooked. The new owner is attentive, personable and hospitable and is clearly investing a lot in making sure he has the place looking and feeling right, and has a great team in place.Good to see The Royal Oak becoming a great pub right in the middle of Pewsey.

Staying here as a B&B whilst walking the Kennet & Avon Canal. Beds comfy after walking all day, but room and bath etc not clean. Absolutely no attention to detail by pub landlord. A place to avoid, use other Pewsey B&B. Especially avoid on Friday & weekend nights where bar music played till after 2.00am and customers drinking and noisy till 2.30am. But best bet avoid and find B&B where your custom is wanted and valued. This pub has great potential in the right hands, with a cleaner and a manager who wants customers it could be a great place to stay whilst walking the K&A canal.

Customer care and cleanliness here are terrible. This is a pub, and we expected some noise in the evenings, but not until 2.30a.m. it was this that was the final straw that drove us away 1 day earlier than planned. (The camel’s back had been loaded up with “poor cleanliness” prior to this.)I can put up with un-ironed sheets/covers, but the sheet was grey as were the towels (of which there were not enough). (Colour and white washes done together?) The bathroom showed evidence of previous occupants, part used shower gel and soap bar in the bath. Pools of dried in soap on window ledge etc etc. Leaves on the bathroom floor, my bedside cupboard had remnants of previous occupants too. There was no servicing of the rooms on a daily basis. I could go on but it would be boring to read. The layout of the 2 rooms and bathroom is good, and suits a family staying, but oh dear, this is not a family place. As a Wadworth Brewery owned pub it should be a gold mine, but with poor management who don’t care for their paying staying guests it cannot be. Why that brewery does nothing about this amazes me, their reputation is going to suffer as a result of this property. We booked 3 nights but moved after 2, we couldn’t stand it any longer. The noise of music and conversations from the lock-in on a Friday night up until 2.30a.m. was the final straw. My advice? DO NOT STAY HERE.

This is my local so I am probably slightly biased. In the two or three years that Barry and Debbie have been here they have turned the Oak around. A sign of a good pub is when you find a mixture of all ages and people of different social backgrounds enjoying themselves. They have a good selection of beers that are well kept and always taste as they should. There is usually a cluster of comedians around the bar for entertainment and if sport is your thing they have a widescreen TV at one end of the bar. They occasionally have live music in the upstairs bar where they also cater for parties and events. I have only eaten here a couple of times but found the food to be good honest pub grub.

This pub has friendly nice staff and is lovely inside, with a huge fireplace. If you fancy a cheeky half or three, it's a nice place to go.But if you want food, it is not so good. It isn't terrible, just not very good. Even a Wetherspoon chain pub does better. The lasagne looks fantastic, has great texture, but the only flavour came from the burnt cheese on the top. Friends I was with also thought their food was bland and not very good. It was very disappointing. No wonder the Applecart Cafe around the corner is so busy at lunchtime, and the Tale of Spice Indian down the road full is in the evening.

The roast beef however, was a different matter with only the sprouts being piping hot. There was very little gravy and the Yorkshire pudding was not fully cooked. There was a general feeling among our group that there was little pride taken in the food that was being served.Service was okay but it would help if the servers knew the menu, with them having to check what a particular vegetable that was served was and what the desserts actually were.

IF I was to comment on the sunday roast I would say make yours at home instead. Sunday roast with fresh veg. It turned up with pink meat, hard roast potatoes, no sign of gravy just meat juice, mash potato and cabbage. I would not call this a roast with fresh veg and a little confused that in the centre were 2 stuffed tomatoes. Unless it is a tradition in another county I have never seen tomatoes on a roast certainly not in Wiltshire. The other meals available looked much more appetising. So I would say if thinking of a sunday roast, either stay at home or go somewhere else.
