On arriving for our 6pm table we had to queue at the bar blocking the entrance to be seated. Only we weren’t seated, just told our table number and a hand gesture to signal we should find it ourselves. We took our menus and waited patiently to at least have a drinks order taken. Eventually, a waitress came over to ask if we had ordered drinks. We arrived at the same time as a huge party so were keen to order food before they did. We ordered food which came quite quickly. However, the hunters chicken special was mainly made up of a very sweet and sticky bbq sauce with not that much chicken. It had obviously been microwaved as it was very hot. The sauce completely overpowered the chicken so much so the breaded chicken was very soggy and needed most of the sauce removing. Another large party arrived so the noise levels were very loud and it was difficult to hear conversation on our table. Nobody came to ask how the food was, offer another drink, clear our plates or ask if we would like dessert or coffee. My husband went to the bar to get another drink and pay our bill. We’ve been recently for Sunday lunch which was lovely so would return for that but not an evening meal and would sit in the bar away from the noisy large group environment of the extension area. Sad to see it’s gone downhill as we’ve had some lovely evenings there.

As a local I like to support the star . I booked a table nice the upstairs restaurant, on arrival with four staff behind the bar no one greeted us and was left waiting for service for about 10 minutes then was told your table that we booked was not available and the only one we have is that one pointing. We walked out fuming! Never again!!! Ps we found a better place who greeted with respect.

Popped in as one of the very few country pubs in the local area that were actually open (possibly worth doing research before visiting Ashburton in Jan/ Feb). What a lucky find. Handy location, lovely hot wood-burner. Staff all lovely and professional. Real ales excellent (Dartmoor & Otter tonight) and a good selection of wines by the glass. Food was outstanding - they do the incredibly rare trick of doing the “ordinary” to excellence (I don’t often feel the urge to write a review on the standard of a side of fries, but these were crunchy, piping and excellent) as well as the other tricky trick of combining value for money portions with excellent presentation. The £20 for the size and presentation of the gammon seemed cheap and the pickled cucumber & ginger salad with the Korean wings nearly stole the show from the main event. Definitely recommend, even if only for the lovely teapot at the end!

We called to warm up after an hour at Haytor. We sat at one of several empty tables & waited for the waitress to take our order. When she finally came, she first said " did you wait to be seated? Instead of a friendly greeting! She then took our order for hot drinks, but said "there's no hot chocolate". Not exactly the best 1st impression. We then waited for 30mins for the order to arrive, but there were only 3 drinks. The second waitress apologised & went back to make the 4th drink. Which finally arrived when the rest of us had finished ours! We won't be going back anytime soon. Which is a shame because the interior is really warm & stylish with an open log fire.

Great jacket meal deal, pulled pork was lovely. Lady who serviced us was jolly, friendly and helpful. She really made us smile and is the reason I went to the effort of popping on a review, great service deserves recognition

Where do i start, cheap food, disgusting and cutlery was dirty. Worst £10 I've spent on a breakfast! Stay well clear, certainly won't be returning.

The sausage rolls were mostly pastry with hardly any sausage meat at all. Well as far as the saffron buns I could build a wall with them, they were that hard and dry even my dogs turned there nose up at them Definitely will not be buying from Warren's again
