Sunday roast, full plate, please bring cutlery and sauces out before meal arrives as it goes cold, tasty however to charge extra for cauli cheese and pigs in blankets is a tad cheeky, just put a little bit on! Crackling on the pork wouldn't go a miss!

Was taken to The Star by family who live local. Whilst the coke/pepsi arrived flat, it was rectified by the manager and replaced. The Vegetarian burger there is to die for. The chef has done an EXCELLENT job of putting together a burger than can genuinely rival a meat one. Rather than putting out the lazy and bland bean burger, they offer a meat replacement chicken burger. (Think beyond burger or VFC) The sides and trappings finish off what is a packed chicken replacement burger, with clean ingredients, not a grease fest. Crispy lettuce and great sauces to compliment. When we visit family again, this is where we will be asking to eat out. Well done chef, its rare for a vegetarian meal to be a genuine offering, where it feels truly a considered meal. Especially if the chef may or may not be vegetarian, or there aren't that many vegetarian customers in the area. (Think small town or farming towns) So thank you. A++

We stopped here for the night in our motorhome, the owners and staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious, they kindly left the outside toilet open for our use at night and had access to the water tap. This is a busy little pub with a long history and well worth a visit

What an awesome place to eat. Food was amazing, hospitality 2nd to none. I hope to be returning at least once a week. I can't believe I live in Devon and have never eaten here before. My brother & I went to eat there as he has eaten there before. I'm excited to have somewhere that goes above and beyond to make people feel welcome. Plus the food being so great was an added bonus. Thank you 🙏✌️

We went to the star for a family Christmas Dinner on Christmas Eve, it was the worst dinner we’ve had for a long time . It was cold, the parsnip were that hard you couldn’t cut through them, roast potatoes weren’t roast they been boiled then fried nothing on the plate had seen any seasoning. The service wasn’t much good they were serving pudding before clearing away the main course plates. I wouldn’t recommend the star for a roast dinner ..

Booked in last minute for 8, the owner was great fitting us in at short notice. The food was exceptional and really affordable! The burgers were great, really generous portions and the chips were great. Kids meals were the same, really good quality, great portions and really affordable. Really lovely place with a lot of history and character and the staff couldn't have been any more welcoming aren't friendly. We were brought crayons and colouring in for the kids which was a lovely touch.

Context: we've been coming to the Star occasionally for about 8 years. In the last 18 months its been going from strength to strength and is now a fantastic local pub and a great place to stop if in the area! The bar staff are friendly and really helpful (especially when we come in with our baby!) The range of beers and spirits has improved immeasurably and is now excellent and the beers are kept really well. The food is now great too. The kitchen keeps developing and the most recent menus with "mega burgers" and fresh pizzas are FAB. Went in tonight - Wednesday night - to be met with a live jazz duo playing awesome tunes, garden and bar had a really happy friendly atmosphere and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. Had the "Don" burger to share with my wife, and some mozarella sticks. Was enormous and fun and really really tasty. 2 weeks ago had a couple of pizzas - fresh, hot, tasty and cheesy. Banging. Obviously i'm a little biased as its my local pub, but - i had almost stopped visiting until 18 months back and now i go most months (which is a lot for me). WELL DONE James, Heidi and team, and congrats to Punch pubs too for supporting James to innovate and make this a properly excellent local pub. A great model for what a "local" should be and somewhere i'm very happy to rave about and take friends and family. Jim

Fish and chips and pie and chips please. Certainly, but you can't eat it in our superb beer garden!! The menu for the beer garden, which is a great space and the reason we chose it, included pizzas, burgers and loaded chips but no fish and chips! The kitchen couldn't cope was the reason we were given. Strange, it's been able to cope for the many years we've used the pub. At the time we were there, no one else was eating though some takeaway pizzas appeared. We certainly won't return until common sense and a decent menu do.

We’ve been a couple of times since the new owners took over and it’s just gone from bad to worse. This evening our whole family came for an evening meal in the garden area. Food is not homemade by any stretch, our whole party was in the toilet or being sick by the time we got home, I suspect food poisoning. Our children wanted a pizza, they received 3 massive slices of reheated (hot in places and cold in others) stale pizza. Honestly the food is a quality match to weatherspoons… which is definitely not worth it for the price! Lovely beer garden and the owners are nice, but wouldn’t return again unless there was a better chef and food. It was disgusting, every thing was reheated and out of a packet.

We had never visited the Star until last night after it was recommended to us by neighbours. What a lovely pub. We were sat in one of the outdoor booths which even though it was outside, it felt private. The food was fantastic, the service was too. We had a really fab evening and will certainly be visiting again. Thanks so much to the whole team but especially the kitchen.

My partner and I are visiting my sister tonight and walked the 150yards to the pub from her house. Glad we did as The Star under new management certainly didn’t disappoint! Nice country atmosphere with tasty food and a lovely welcome. My partner had the roast chicken dish and thoroughly enjoyed it. My sister and i had the burger and it was lovely with my brother in law eating the chicken pie. It was all lovely and we managed desserts even though the portions are good and generous!! So in summary a lovely cosy pub which, if you pull off the Devon Expressway doesn’t disappoint!!
