What a Pub!!! Perfect pints of San Miguel, like really perfect. Really accommodating with a tab so we could pay at end, didn’t take a card, trusted us. The Pizza was genuinely really good, crispy base, thin, good amount of mozzarella. COD and chips was also excellent, cod cooked just right. Staff and locals all very lovely and the best bit of all, plenty of friendly doggo’s to get to know.

We have been coming to the area and staying in the same hotel for 18 years and tried pubs in Widecombe and Haytor Vale - never been to this one until tonight - what a gem! Lovely friendly atmosphere when we walked in, we loved the decor and the relaxed vibe. The wine was great ( first class Rioja) - I was disappointed that the steak had sold out but then glad it had because the steak pie superb - tender chunks of good quality beef in a tasty sauce with mushrooms and Stilton - delicious! My partner loved her plate of scampi as well. Service was exemplary and we can’t wait to return!

Went for lunch for my daughter’s birthday, 8 adults and 4 children. The adults mainly had the Steak pies which were delicious. The size of the children’s portions, fish goujons and chips or Pizza, would have satisfied an adult. The goujons were lovely, with crisp batter and white fish, while the pizzas were fresh and tasty. Service was very good and there was a good selection of beers, wines and a nice Prosecco. All were very impressed with The Carpenters Arms and would recommend a visit if you are in the Ilsington area. Thank you Yvonne and Richard for an enjoyable afternoon.

We stumbled upon this hidden gem on our recent trip to Devon. Having read a couple of good Google reviews, we decided to give it a shot. Definitely the right decision! Set in a quaint village, The Carpenters Arms delivered a fantastic menu with plenty of options for vegetarians and fussy eaters. I had the veggie lasagna, and my husband had fish and chips; the fish was so tender, it was falling off his fork. A definite 10/10 from the both of us. Warm welcome from staff, and very dog friendly. The pub garden was lovely, and we ate to the tomes of the bell ringing practice from the local church. Great experience, look forward to visiting again when we are back down that way,

We opted to sit by the log burner, at a table where dogs were welcome and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The Carpenters Arms really does have a lovely atmosphere. We were served our drinks by the landlady who is very welcoming, when we ordered drinks she asked us if we would like to order food, and she attentively brought menu's over to us and gave us plenty of time to decide what to have. I had the Italian salad which was absolutely gorgeous, my partner had the steak and ale pie - which he said was 'top notch' and our friends had a burger and a portion of lasagne which they said they both thoroughly enjoyed. We don't usually have desserts but went for a chocolate Sunday, sticky toffee pudding and an orange and chocolate ice cream sorbet. Everything was perfect. We will be visiting again soon and are looking forward to working our way through the rest of the menu!

Restaurant Review I was really looking forward to dining here, but unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to expectations. The menu was quite misleading—we thought we were paying £50 each for our own steak, but it turned out to be an 8 oz steak to share. While dessert was included and we had one each, that didn’t make up for the disappointment. To make matters worse, no one asked how we’d like our steak cooked, and it arrived rare. I couldn’t eat mine at all. The sides were underwhelming—truffle chips were nice, but the Caesar salad was literally just a bowl of leaves with a few croutons thrown in. For dessert, the chocolate delice was fine, nothing special. But what really topped off the evening was the state of the facilities—there was only one toilet for the whole place, and it was in awful condition. Overall, for the price, I expected much better. I won’t be returning.

Meal with partner and her family one evening here, friendly staff and lovely locally sourced produce. We all chose a mussel dish and had no complaints. Good portion size with sliced bread and a bowl of chips. The Inn itself is also a factor in my review given its idyllic location near the coast and an interesting rich history given the age of the building, approx 450 years old.
