The Anchor Inn at Cockwood has just earned one on my rare 5* reviews. The shared Seafood Platter was amazing, lobster, mussels, razor clams, shell-on prawns, green-lipped mussels, cockles, garlic butter, and loads of it! Outstanding food, good service, reasonable price, highly recommended.

We attended for lunch znd was really pleased with our food. So much so we decided to meet some friends there for an evening meal the following night. The food the following evening was very disappointing. The pan-fried chicken was definitely boiled, and had never seen a pan. The mushroom and sauce was watery and had no flavour at all, and the mash tasted like a packet mix. The curry was extremely hot, like it had been heated in a microwave. The curry sauce was again watery and spicy with no underlying flavour. It was really disappointing.

Sehr urig, sehr gemütlich und extrem lecker! Darüber hinaus, sehr einladend draußen gegenüber auf der Mauer ein Bier zu trinken. An einem Sommerabend ist draußen fast mehr los als drinnen. Was recommended this place by a work mate. An hours drive, but well worth it. Good old fashion coastal pub overlooking a small harbour. Friendly staff, good menu choices and some great shell fish offerings. Reasonably priced and a great sharing platter, shelly sharer. All in all, a good experience good food, prompt service, wine reasonable. I had a nice gammon steak and the other half had a seafood ploughman's lunch, said it was amazing! The only thing lacking was some sunshine which would have gone down well with all of us sitting outside on the terrace. Overlooking Cockwood harbour the pub boasts an enviable location, the narrow road outside provides some entertainment watching cars braking hard to avoid others on the narrow bend.

Firstly they let a trainee serve us without any support which was unfair. Not her fault. The food arrived and 3 crab dishes were substituted for smoked salmon without asking! Apparently they never had crab anyway. Then the quality of the food was poor. Mussels were overdone with bland sauce. The chips were ok. Then they brought another tables bill. A complete shambles from start to finish.

The lovely small village of Cockwood boasts two great pubs. Unfortunately due to structural damage the Ship Inn at Cockwood is closed and is currently under repair. Yesterday I visited the Anchor Inn for the first time with my wife. It was a lovely afternoon and we were able to sit outside. The Anchor has a reputation for providing customers with top class seafood. As soon as you enter the pub your nostrils are assaulted with the aroma of a cocktail of different fish & shellfish recipes being prepared for the waiting customers. The pub had a lovely atmosphere & the bar staff were helpful and friendly. The beer was good and reasonably priced.

Classic country pub which preserves its historic building. Its location overlooks a small inlet, and the outdoor seating often extends informally to the wall the other side of the narrow road. The range of drinks and the attentiveness of the service are good, but what really stands out here is the quality of the food. The menu is, unsurprisingly for its location, heavily seafood biased, and the quality of the ingredients and dishes is clear. The car park is very snug for modern cars, though there is on street parking a little walk away.

A traditional old pub with the sagging oak beams, log burners and, wonder of wonders, not just one “snug” but two! More nooks and crannies than you can shake a stick at, and outside seating overlooking the quaint harbour.
