As is often the case anywhere in the world the best places are hidden away from the main centre. An unpretentious café with a courtyard. A reassuringly short and simple menu. Popular with locals and a lovely and engaging owner, Coral, whilst partner Brian works the kitchen. Very reasonable prices. A fairly recent venture and best wishes for the future. We shall return when next visiting the Thursday farmers' market. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

What a great little cafe tucked away in the Pottery Court a real hidden gem. We sat in the garden area, where our waitress was very attentive. Excellent fresh tasty food and drinks at very reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend.

Not a great experience, front of house staff were lovely though! 7 of us had a table booked for a birthday meal. One steak was so tough the steak knife couldn't cut it and the second one brought out was just as bad with a huge bit of fat hanging off! They said the meat was locally sourced but it didn't seem this way. The Meat loaf was okay for the first few mouthfuls but it was so dry and lumpy and the sauce that came with it was basically chopped tomatoes from a tin. A few has Crumble for pudding, the crumble was very powdery, nothing crumbly about it and the waffle definitely wasn't 'drenched' in sauce like the menu states. Over all it was a pretty bland experience and we wont be returning for food again unfortunately. Cocktails were nice though, even though they only had enough for 3 porn star martinis

Great little pub. Traditional pub games and a new jukebox. Clean and tidy and good selection of ales. Owners are from Torbay so good to see a more diverse community. Hopefully will get busier now there is a new development down the road. Free parking opposite with limited spaces. Even has a church on the other side of the road.

Went for just a milkshake, they were absolutely tiny and mostly cream, not very nice and quite expensive. Staff weren’t very friendly and seemed miserable considering they only just opened. Very disappointed won’t be visiting again!

Service has been fantastic, I joined my family for a few days over the past week and James has been an amazing host - chatty, accommodating and outright friendly. Had food one evening, wouldn't necessarily recommend the ribs, but for drinks and socialising The Retreat is a great place to go! Will be returning! Adam from Bristol (3 dogs)
